It's so nice seeing media that depicts the good AND bad sides of witchcraft (Even if it's stylized). especially back in the early 80's when witchcraft and occultism still had a negative stigma around it as far as the general populous was concerned. Miss Switch genuinely cares for the children and despite having her own problems, she continues to worry about their well-being. Whereas Saturna is selfish and vindictive, she doesn't care about anyone but herself, not even other witches. it's a clear view of the two diametrically opposed ideas of witches at the time, Wicked and sneaky, or Enlightened and misunderstood.
We were a few years awasy from the "Satanic Panic" in 82' but once it happened, all the cartoons like "Sabrina and the Groovie Goolies" and even shows like "The Munsters" and "The Addams Family" were deemed too dark for kids and relegated to the archives. Saturna is voiced by the same actress who voiced the witch in a Tom and Jerry cartoon where Tom was riding a witch's broom without permission. Then she gave him a 'real' ride just before he woke up from his nightmare.
