    This was made in 1983 yet it looks like they still had one foot in the 1970s. It's so foreign to anything that's on TV today. It had a kind of wholesomeness that you don't find.

    For those who are interested, the russian in the note fully translated:
    Please take care of my bunny, his name is Bunnicula. He protects those who love him.
    I reckon even though first correctly identified as russian they later keep refering to it as romanian more in tone with Dracula's country of origin but also i guess as the word is easier for kids to say when they might tell about the film, I remember struggling through words with two ss in them! :D Honestly wish these where available on dvd or blu. It would be a shame for these shows to be lost someday.

    Bunnicula was my favorite book as a child. I kinda remember seeing this version as a kid, but I don’t know why they would scooby do it like this. Mr Monroe was a professor he didn’t work at a haunted plant (scooby do) and Mrs Monroe was a LAWYER. The story was so great, kids obviously loved it or else they wouldn’t have made a special of it so WHY do producers have to change it? Fortunately I happen to have kept my book on tape version read by Lou Jacobi which is brilliant and 👌

      Amen! There were no neighbors involved at all. The mystery was kept entirely in the family. And the rabbit didn't go all demonic either. He just slept all day and went after the vegetables at night. The things they will do to juice up a movie.

Things I remember about it include a suspicious cat and dog trying to figure out if the new cute pet rabbit is a vampire, but never finding decisive proof either way. Things I don't remember are factory lay-offs, wolves, and telekinesis. Although I never saw this animated adaptation of it 'til now, I'm sure young me would have dug it.

    • @owenwexler7214
      @owenwexler7214 Před 3 lety +10

      The Boomerang series was.... odd. As a longtime fan of the books from childhood I had so many questions when I saw it (why are Harold and Chester nothing like they are in the books, where tf is Howie, where tf are the Monroes and who is this budget Kim Possible who is apparently in their place, why is Bunnicula babbling like a demented 3 year old etc).
      BTW the Boomerang series completely butchered Chester but this film got him slightly more right, although his voice is too happy-go-lucky. The Chester of the books was a grumpy fiery brilliantly paranoid cat whose doomsaying, cynicism, and paranoia wove imagery that drove a lot of the books' plots (he is particularly in top form in Nighty Nightmare, my favorite of the books). I hate to be the "neeehhhh it's not like the books" guy, but it's so true in this case.
