  • Here's a repeat airing of the animated cartoon special "Halloween Is Grinch Night" (originally aired on October 29th 1977), as rebroadcast over the ABC Network via its Chicago O&O WLS Channel 7.
This, a sequel to Dr. Seuss' "How the Grinch Stole Christmas," features Hans Conreid as both the Grinch and the narrator; the title character in this tale, out to cause grave harm on a rainy Halloween, is confronted by a kid named Eucariah. Music was by Joe Raposo (of Sesame Street, The Electric Company and Three's Company fame). All segments end with a "We'll Return After These Messages" bumper, and the next begins with the title card and "We now return to Halloween Is Grinch Night" (voiceovers by Bill Rice?)
    Includes:
Station ID / promo for American Indian display at Field Museum (voiceover by Wayne Atkinson)
Show opening titles and main credits
Sponsor billboard for Parker Brothers (voiceover by Bill Rice?)
    Commercials for:
Clue - from Parker Brothers (posted separately here: • Parker Brothers - Clue... )
McDonald's - with "fun in the snow" motif
    Show Act I
    Commercials for:
Merlin portable computerized board game - from Parker Brothers (voiceover by John Bartholomew Tucker) (posted separately here: • Parker Brothers - Merl... )
Kellogg's Sugar Corn Pops (with Big Yellow) (posted separately here: • Kellogg's Sugar Corn P... )
Promo for Happy Days and Angie for Tuesday (voiceover by Ernie Anderson)
Animated ABC ID (with lower-third station ID)
    Show Act II
Country Time - "Tastes Like Good Old Fashioned Lemonade" (jingle sung by Jake Holmes)
Rom, "the Space Knight" (9 volt battery not included - dang!) (voiceover by Jackson Beck) (posted separately here: • Parker Brothers - ROM ... )
Ending credits [with voiceover promo for Mork & Mindy (episode as broadcast posted here: • ABC Network - Mork & M... ) and The Associates, with "The Halloween That Almost Wasn't" coming up next (posted separately here: • ABC Network - "The Hal... ), by Allan Jefferys]
Promo for 240-Robert for Monday, followed by NFL Monday Night Football (main voiceover by Ernie Anderson) (ending voiceover by Allan Jefferys)
Commercial: Diet Rite Cola (ending voiceover by Dan Ingram, longtime disc jockey for New York's WABC Musicradio 77 - sister station to Chicago's own WLS Musicradio 89)
Station ID / promo for Museum of Science & Industry coal mine exhibit (voiceover by Wayne Atkinson)
This aired on local Chicago TV on Sunday, October 28th 1979 during the 6:00pm to 6:30pm timeframe.
This was from a tape donated to The Museum of Classic Chicago Television as part of The George Jen Collection.

@@culpit I was wondering this as well. In fact it's kind of something I've thought about since I first saw this as a kid. Either this takes place before "How the Grinch Stole Christmas", in which case case Max somehow ended up back with the Grinch (by Max's own choice or not), or it takes place afterward, and the Grinch's heart shriveled back down to three sizes too small sometime after the events of that story. Kind of a downer either way.

At this moment in time I am within a couple of months of turning 20 (no more teenager!), the very first Star Trek movie is less than a year away from hitting theaters and a friend bought the first home VCR I ever saw (RCA VHS). A week after this show aired I suffered the worst broken heart of my life. Small wonder I have no memory of this Halloween special.
