Halo Beauty Breakdown: Why Hair, Nail, & Skin Supplements are Scams

- It's vegan, it's pretty, but it's still garbage. My (non-expert) analysis of the ingredients in Halo Beauty by Tati and why I would never buy these bogus hair, nail, and skin supplements (especially if they contain high amounts of biotin, like Halo Beauty does).

27:40 - I'm not (necessarily) criticizing the research
29:08 - Supplement vs drug is a bogus distinction
30:08 - Biotin, again (why you shouldn't take high doses)

Dietary ceramides at 1% increase atherosclerotic lesions in mice: www.sciencedirect.com/science...
It may be related to the mechanism that causes apoptosis in endothelial cells: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1...
But whatever the mechanism, the predictive association is clear, and points to a causal mechanism that promotes the formation of lesions and plaques.

If you still want to take a hair/nail/skin supplement, Deva has some vegan ones (they even have a ceramide supplement). It's still bullshit, but at least it's cheap bullshit.
It's not bullshit. My nails used to be very thin and would break easily. After taking skin/hair/nails supplements, they are very thick and strong and never break anymore. My hair also grows much faster now.
Unnatural Vegan 🤣👏
Ana M Placebo effect can be very convincing
Tati uses this herself and she is her own before and after and I trust Tati. She has been on a very long journey to personal health and she wants to help us too. I trust the team of dr's that assisted her. Tati never claimed to prevent or cure gray hair. Her product delays it.
Lara Pauley She uses hair extensions, very expensive skincare and make-up and I suspect her nails are also done professionally. And there was talk about botox. Tati looks good for her age, but that is hardly because of her pills.
It really bothers me how Tati keeps using the word "proven" on her website. I have a degree in biology and my professors always would emphasize that nothing is ever proven, just supported. Studies support theories, they don't necessarily prove theories.
Devon Moeller As someone whose finishing their degree in mathematics. If there's not 5 pages using the words "analogously" at least 6 different symbols your average layman can't understand and q.e.d. I approach "proven" with equal amounts of skepticism.
yep, I too have a MSc, and I cringe at "proven". We don't prove anything. Evidence supports claims and theories. We come to a conclusion. We can call correlation, but be carefull to not equal it to causation. Coming from a scientific background, those statements always ring an alarm bell in my head...
Dude, P value. The closer the P value is to one, the more it supports causation, not correlation. I thought everyone had to take statistics?
@@Al-kw3jh Yes! My thoughts exactly. Correlation does not equal causation.
@@MaysBreakdown literally NOT how statistics work?? where did you learn that? (plus, as an aside, many researchers are moving away from p-values. some journals even forbid the use of p-values as a meaningful statistic evaluation)
I have a degree in biochemistry. This is how you make an arguement when discussing scientific stuff, with research with documented and peer reviewed results. Just stating you work with scientists is not enough.
What do u think of this supplement?
@@evieparrott In my opinion, it's just a very expensive supplement that won't do much for you. You're better off spending that money on skincare, nail stuff and hair care
This could have all been avoided if she just made a cream instead 😂😭
Or if she just made makeup like everyone wanted from her
@@tangent5 yeah she could but the competition is to big, and she doesn't have the seller aura, this days that young people and gen z who buy everything in 10 minutes, she did pills because there no competition
@@jean-danieldjolituke1923 But she ended up releasing makeup and it went so well for her lol. If you have millions of somewhat active subscribers, it'll be successful no matter what product you release. (sadly)
IconicIsak idk look at Nikita Dragun...
Video just became surprisingly relevant again
she tried to expose someone bc of her scam pills....
And again
what I'm getting from this video is that if you crushed up the vitamins and rubbed them on your skin, they would be much more useful
Stevie Gallagher - lol right!?
Stevie Gallagher No need to crush them, capsules can be opened easily :D
Jana Nguyenová Well Tati did say you can open them and just take the powder?
Stevie Gallagher Hilarious 😂
Was thinking the same thing lol put the powder in the blender and mix it into a moisturizer
Best hair/nail/skin tactic is living a healthy lifestyle. But you can't brand that and make a profit.
Rebecca Louise but that takes effort!
Rebecca Louise best comment ever!!
It's so true, too. When I'm eating a healthy diet and exercising my skin glows like never before, balances out and becomes smoother and turns over better. Drink lots of water too.
Rebecca Louise exactly. People want to take a bright pink pill sold by their fav beauty guru!! 😂
You can, it's called being a life coach. ;)
As a vegan, beauty lover, and registered dietitian this is the best and most well researched video I have seen since her brand announcement. Thanks so much for actually doing research! Great video
You are absolutely beautiful! Take care👱🏼♀️
*Customer* : Will this supplement affect Birth Control?
*Tati* : Our 160mg dose is very low when compared to the 2,000 mg men take for enlarged prostates.
Rebecca Louise You do realize it's for women not men right?
Gorden Wood you're missing the point
Gorden Wood she says men can take it
That statement is a complete lie. The amount men took in studies for BPH was 320mg. So just twice the amount she has in Halo. Me and others have mentioned it a couple of times, but it's still up on her site like that. Pf. So much BS
That's a bit weird... wondering who did the research here - that's a dosage way off what she's claiming is used
This video was in my recommended after I watched the tea stuff on James Charles and tati lol
me too lmao
Same here lol
Same
She needs to update. She has those green vitamins now
Thanks so much for the mention!
I feel so bad for Tati... but the amount of typos on this site alone are enough to discredit this : /
Ryan Grimshaw But she DoEsN’t WoRk WiTh DuMb PeOplE
@@Crochetems 😂🙈
Her site says it refuses to accept any liability whether or not you consult a medical professional. What Tati doesn't understand is that she is selling outside the U.S. so in my country at least, she is liable. She is responsible if her product is found to have caused damage. You don't have to prove your claims to our Therapeutic Goods Administration for supplements but you do have to have the studies of proof on hand if they ask for them. If she sells that stuff here and it goes wrong, she is screwed.
Tracey S. Just on the safe side go get some and maybe you can get rich😉
Tracey S. Wow I did not know that
She’s ridiculous, despite the disclaimers “refusing to accept liability” doesn’t preclude her from being sued. She’s made some very strong, irresponsible claims. 🤷🏽♀️
OK but are you really going to move to the U.S. for a 3 year trial over it? You can't sue overseas there are so many laws that would prevent it.
Sugar Plum No, I wouldn't. I'd be too lazy to sue anyone unless it was really serious. I'd never buy that sort of stuff. I was just saying she should be careful. There are several countries where she would get in trouble if things go wrong. In that case the individual doesn't have to sue, their government would prosecute for breaking their laws. They've got deep pockets and lots of time. I'm not sure she's aware of that.
After all the tea between tati and sister james over the vitamins, this video should get more relevant. People
need to inform themselves!
Julio Alberto Gómez it isn’t just over stupid vitamins. It’s been over James Charles being a predator and a hypocrite.
@@seapuppers3605 I don't care. Either way, Skin supplements are scams, and that people should know
Julio Alberto Gómez then don’t say it was over vitamins when it really wasn’t. It’s kinda gross to bring in serious drama about a predator into the comment section.
sea puppers it’s a bit of a stretch to call him a predator. Has he been accused of a crime or arrested? You can’t just accuse someone of being a near rapist based off some shit ppl say on youtube.
chickpea_girl cant you stfu? he’s a nasty ass person who preys on straight guys.
I’m so confused as to how Tati thought this would be well received. Either she knows it’s bullshit, and is trying to scam people, or she genuinely believes in her bullshit and is not as smart as people tend to give her credit for.
megan I think it's a little of column A, and a little of column B. Lol.
I think somebody scammed her. The "research team behind her company" could be a bunch of idiots who believe cancer can be cured with baking soda or something like that. And since she advertises it as "natural" I think she is convinced from other people that natural is better etc. I dont know but i think thats what might have happened.
megan nah pretty sure she actually believes her own BS. Don’t think she intends to scam people she just got scammed it appears
I think she believes that it's part of her "brand" because she is a huge multivitamin fan(and ppl know it) even when it's mostly nonsense
megan no she has lied so much she knows. That ego is hugeeeee
Lmao there was a sugar bear hair vitamin ad before this video 😂
Imagine, there's now a hair vitamin that makes sugar bear's price look affordable.
The prophecy has been foretold.
Hysteria _ oh shit
pinkieskeelo iuio
Hey! Thanks for making this video. As a doctor, this whole thing got me pretty frustrated. Also, I just wanted to add that her claim of men taking 2000mg of saw palmetto is a straight up lie, the studies made on it had men taking 320mg (which is just double the amount in her supplement). Anyway, thanks for making such a detailed video on it :) Oh, and to that study about astaxanthin that you couldn't see the whole thing: they assessed oxidative stress in the plasma samples using thiobarbituric acid reactive substances assay kit and colorimetry and the samples were also H&E stained and assessed by a cytopathologist. It wasn't assessed by a dermatologist or the subjects themselves. And to end on a quote that one of my professors said: "If you think everything natural is good for you... snake venom is very natural as well but it can most definitely kill you" :P xoxo :)
Such a good review. She got all pissed off saying that no one had legit sources for the saw palmetto stuff, but like medical schools and physicians seem like pretty good people to listen to.
My question is why has she not included a darker bottle to block out the sunlight breaking down the supplement.
You are my favorite vegan CZcamsr. You are competent and lovely.
This Man aw
you could have a section called 'I'm not a...' where you're not a dietitian or pediatrician or dermatologist, you're just someone who's capable of reading scientific studies and differentiating the credible evidence from nonsense.
Aimee Coleman she clearly states that in the video
zaino Lmao I hope you know the original commenter wasn’t hating on the CZcamsr here.
I've seen a couple videos critiquing Halo Beauty and they were meh and just seemed bandwagon hate videos but man. Your research... A+. Super super impressive.
Just came here to roll my eyes at the tati/James Charles drama because all of this ruckus is over a product that doesn't even work
No it’s because James is a shitty friend and sold out. Doesn’t matter the product.
Lmao it was never over the vitamins if you actually watched her video.
Still, she wouldn’t have made the video if James Charles hadn’t promoted a competitor’s product.
How do you know that? @@booyah2217
Satan it was
Her answer was "I don't work with stupid people you guys" which... isn't a good enough answer. I sure as hell am not following her blindly.
Danielle LaBarbera Oh yeah, and "I would never do anything that would hurt you" and then there's a report from a youtuber who bled for 3 weeks as a result of taking Halo Beauty.
@@fairlind what?! What kind of bleeding?! What youtuber?!
Miranda Stephens Look up “Halo Beauty & My Period” on CZcams. I can’t swear it’s the same review I saw back then, but it says the same things so it may be.
Nowadays it seems like people eat the stuff you are supposed to apply on the skin and apply stuff on the skin which is supposed to be eaten. If a person applies an avacado on their head all i could say is eat that avacado and apply a conditioner instead of taking suppliments.
😂
El Cat I do both ... is that double standards? 🤣
+Rumpelstiltskin lol i dont think its wrong or bad to do something as long as you know how and if it works. Avacado is not really bad for your hair xD but its probably more effecrive to eat it.
You're right about people eating things they should apply but realistically applying things you could eat actually works. I mean there's a reasom that conditioner has avocado oil in it.
Sugar Plum So true.... and I do both..eat and apply topically...avocados make a great face mask mixed with honey and ever since I can remember I've rinsed my hair in either lemon or vinegar solution ....a friend of mine uses cold coffee, she says it makes her hair strong and enhances the colour? I'm not sure if it does as I've not tried it but her hair always looks healthy and conditioned!
I don't want to undermine the awesome video you've put together, with that extensive research and work, buuut... I really need to know what lipstick color you are using. It's remarkably pretty!
It's the "day" side from elf's day night lipstick duo in "I love pinks". They sent it for free when I ordered some other stuff. It's got that awful sweet smell/taste that so many of their lip products have, but I agree, the color is beautiful!
Unnatural Vegan I am willing to smell some weird cosmetic scent fot a cheap, vegan beautiful color! Thanks so much!
Velvet Von Black I love that shade.
How funny, that was the same thing I thought when I started watching the video, not mention the flawless skin!!
I'm disappointed that she was encouraging people to post photos of their results the same week of her launch. And, of course, some were claiming that they could see rapid changes within a few days of taking the supplements..
Stephanie Carlson you actually could because you could see maybe a pimple going down or redness slowly disappearing. Varies on the person.
Also just looking at a good majority of the before and afters, it’s obvious there’s manipulation in lighting, makeup, and filters. It’s annoyingly not credible, even for a testimonial
Plaaaaaaceeeeboooooooo effect is real
video got recommended after the james charles scandal 😂
My money is on that Tati thinks we're stupid
This is her attempt at paying off her bougie Hawaiian wedding.
Krystal Paul lol
Since being with Jeffree star she has become a different person
Hell yeah.
jack g Sadly it seems to be working when there are people claiming to see great change after just a few days. 🙄
I swear some are so gullible it’s scary.
I’m sorry but HOLY SHIT, as a doctor, the knowledge that troponin assays could be falsely negative because of biotin is a HUGE risk. We generally diagnose heart attacks by three things; EKG findings, character of the chest pain, and elevated heart enzymes (troponin (most used) and CK). There are 2 types of heart attacks: STEMIs (that have ST elevation on an EKG), and NSTEMIs (that don’t have the elevation). The NSTEMI findings can be subtle, which is why we usually hold patients to repeat their troponin even if it was only a tiny bit elevated the first time, for more clinical security that aren’t having a heart attack. In addition, women (who are mostly likely going to be taking these kinds of supplements), don’t present with classic “chest heaviness, arm and neck pain” for heart attacks. It’s a lot more nebulous, so the trop can be very important. If the trop is unreliable in those women (that basically never tell us they are taking vitamins because why would they?) then that’s a real risk that they could be falsely diagnosed as not having a heart attack.
My multivitamin has almost all of the shit in Halo and it’s $40 a bottle (120 capsules) so that works out to $10 a month.
IMO this multivitamin she’s putting out is crap. You’re paying for the packaging and her name.
Amsi What the hell multivitamin is that? I'll have what you're having
What multivitamin are you taking ? I want yours even if it isn’t cute or pink
Most of these "special" supplements are basically just shiny multivitamins... just take a balanced multivitamin and you're good. Anything you'd take extra the body would just dispose of...
Amsill
Helvetica09 I've always wondered about this and suppose I should research it but the way vitamins list that they have a million times the recommended amount you need in a day is strange to me. According to my blood work I'm only deficient in vitamin d, so I take a d and calcium supplement, but I also take a prenatal vitamin because they say it's a good idea just in case basically. Since I started taking all these vitamins my pee has been really dark and smells like vitamins.....sorry that's gross....but I feel like my body probably doesn't even use most of what's in them because it's pretty clear that they're coming right back out:(
Solid work, I am always impressed by how thorough your research is.
You look really pretty with and without makeup. Queen of clear skin
vickie g that vegan glow🙌
100 what’s the bet your an antivaxxer, they love the word “shill”
I had to unsubscribe from Tati after the launch, I just couldn’t watch her trying to sell her supplement. Even though she only mentioned it at the end of the video, it just left me with a bad taste in my mouth. The 52 minute video was like a scolding for daring to question her and Halo Beauty. I checked out the website for Halo, but $40 is just too much for it, and I just wasn’t comfortable enough to purchase. And I didn’t want to unsubscribe from her, but I had to. I just couldn’t watch her shilling for a bogus product. Anyway, nice job on this, I appreciate the effort and the information.
This popped up in my recommended after the James Charles drama. Yes James may have exhibited some narcissism and nasty traits, but he is 19. I feel some type of way with Jeffree Star, a man in his 30s with his own baggage, and Tati who is near 40 exposing him as if he is Satan himself.
To be fair, if he isn't called out, he can't improve, and Tati at least said she tried to talk to him privately about it on multiple occasions. Sometimes you need a shock to your system to realize you need to start acting right.
She said she loved him like a son, mothers don't drag their sons online and destroy their careers.
If she cared for him she would take him to a therapist or something.
Plus Jeffree star had his scandals, he made inappropriate comments about straight guys and Justin Bieber when Justin was only 16yo (Jeffree was 24yo at that time ) now he's taking Tati's side.
she refuses to disclose what makes the pills pink so i have a strong feeling it's not actually vegan and she's just claiming that to get the widest variety of customers.
Emily Taylor same!
It's something people eat, isn't it supposed to tell you on the packet?
Okto You'd think but only mentions on label that it is a vegetable capsule. (Also includes magnesium sterate in capsule which is a filler and I personally avoid. Just look up the side effects of it for yourself. It is possible to buy from reputable brands that do not use fillers)Does disclose where the pink comes from. On the Halo site only mentions that it's 'carmine free' but that still doesn't answer the question. I've tried emailing twice and never got a response. Tati ignores or blocks those who ask. I did read someone got a response back from Halo just saying it was a 'proprietary blend' that makes up the 'pink', very vague and shady. I'd never buy from a company that couldn't disclose 100% ingredients of any product.
+N Joy interesting. Puzzling too. Pink dye doesn't seem like anything too special to me. Many ways to dye things pink, why is their's so secret?
It also raises an issue - people only realised there's a mystery ingredient because of the pink colour, so are there other unlisted things in there too? I don't know for sure, but this opens up that possibility too.
N Joy I don't know but if the capsules are vegetarian (not gelatin) the other alternative is cellulose ( HPMC) and this still allows for colouring the capsule if required... hope this link works...books.google.co.uk/books?hl=en&lr=&id=cIPhBwAAQBAJ&oi=fnd&pg=PA53&dq=related:LAtBTf9F9IpniM:scholar.google.com/&ots=6dWNpOtTGe&sig=Pb1xI-HVYp0nf3nmoUB8A9LOqaw#v=onepage&q&f=false
This video showing up in my recommendations for obvious reasons 😂😂
This is kind of like the Sugar Bear pills, it is just expensive vitamins whom you can find so much cheaper if you only took some time searching. But people are often to lazy and only listen to the people who sell it and the people who are paid to talk about them.
and the sugar bear pills have like, an excess of lead in them too.
i ask my doctor if I can buy this vitamin and she said yes because its not a special vitamin . I told more about it and told her it is made by a youtuber and she said " I know it is not my money but why would you buy vitamins from a woman who plays with makeup?" lol my doctor is savage and made me look dumb. I didn't buy it lol.
Martha Gomez Lol!
"plays with makeup"? she's a makeup reviewer, your doctor sounds misogynistic
Placebos. Beeeen sayung. Faking grace
That’s a good doctor!
pep_z doing makeup isn’t exactly an intellectual pursuit. If you think this opinion is misogynistic, you might be a bimbo.
ceramides again, work the best when applied topically, they help rebuild damaged skin barrier, which can cause many skin problems including acne
I've watched Tati for a while, and although I feel like she's a kind and well-meaning person, she's incredibly ill-informed in regards to supplements. Excellent video as always Swayze :)
Also yassss bitch that divine palette tho.
Nathan Howard She’s incredibly ill-informed, unqualified on top on being extremely defensive, even flippant towards evidence based negative feedback. I’m so disappointed
I feel like she's generally not very knowledgable when it comes to the more scientific side of cosmetics/skincare and it doesn't look like she's willing to educate herself💁🏻
girl lionness yess I thought the same thing!! She sounds very air heady and like a typical CZcams makeup diva with no actual knowledge of what she’s putting on her face.
"I know it's kind of pot calling the kettle 'black' but... *I'm* not trying to sell you something.
...
Well I *AM* trying to get you to go vegan, but I'm not asking you for money.
...
Well I *DO* have a Patreon... *BUT IT'S NOT THE SAME, DAMNIT.* "
That part just killed me. xD
Our stomachs are very good at a specific task - breaking stuff down. So, even when a molecule has been found to do something, there's good reason to question if it will survive digestion. One material our digestion breaks apart pretty efficiently is protein, including enzymes like catalase. Eating catalase and expecting it to survive digestion and somehow find its way from your gut to your scalp is a bit simplistic and needs some research to support the claim. I'm not saying it doesn't, I don't know, but I'm not going to assume it will just because.
Vitamins are useful - but if you're consuming enough, you should already be fine. So, supplements claiming all kinds of benefits that rely entirely or largely on vitamins cannot truthfully promise everyone will benefit or that they're some very special formula, they're just vitamins. Good for people who don't eat enough, needless for those who do.
Anyone with a normal IQ and education should be able to cut through Tatis outrageous claims....Great video
Alexi B lol savage, but true 😂
Really shows you how many dumb people are out there
or desperate and ignorant which I think is the main thing
Thank you for making this video!! I know how much work goes into digging through countless research papers (its a pain), I really appreciate it :)
Really, the most effective things we can do to improve our hair/skin/nails are the things we always hear, eat healthy, drink water, sun protection, etc. - those are the main things we can do. An oral supplement only helps if it contains something your body is lacking, but you can get most of those nutrients from just eating good food too.
It's like grapefruit juice and some medications, just because it's natural doesn't mean it's going to be ok to take
Your mention of vitiligo-thank you.
I couldn't possibly like this video enough! I do really like Tati and her make up videos, but the entire supplement business is garbage and I was disappointed with her coming out with this product.
As always, thank you for quality content and appreciate all the time you spend to do your research.
The sad fact is Tati probably never did any research for herself, and she's only most likely repeating what her "group of doctors and scientists" are instructing her to say
Hi. I wanted to add something about biotin. The presence of high doses of biotin (more than 5mg/day) can interfere with thyroid measurements. TSH can be measured as falsely low and t4, ft4 and t3 can present as falsely high. So, biotin supplements can mask hypothyroidism and if you are about to get your thyroid levels checked, you need to stop taking the supplement at least 8 hours prior blood sample collection
JLHM LDK In some cases it’s recommended 7 days.
I'm curious about the pink dye. She conveniently didn't mention it in her 2nd video even though lots had questions about it
Yami According to Jen Luvs Reviews the pink dye ingredients are a "secret" because of the company who made them doesn't have to reveal them. Watch her video. She explains it better (and not at 2 am).
Krystal Paul I watched that and left a comment as I found it most odd that a company would not want to reveal ingredients and asked my Dr and pharmacist and they both said that it was irregular for a company not to list ingredients on an ingestible capsule for an array of reasons, vegan, allergies, animal testing etc..and if the colour was only from natural compounds companies usually are very vocal on how "natural" it is, they don't hide it!
Refusing to disclose ingredients is illegal, period.
It's speculated that the product isn't cruelty free like it claims either. Ceramide PCD or what Tati is selling as Ceramide Rx was tested on animals by her supplier (Tru Body Wellness).
Ayda Moftah unfortunately most ingredients have at some point been tested on animals, it is generally required for them to be classed as 'safe'. Supplier companies will either generally test all their ingredients, or piggyback off the findings of another company that will most likely have tested on animals. Unfortunately the 'cruelty free' title can be a but vague. Some companies will have tested none of their ingredients/products on animals, whilst others just let others do the tests for them.
Exactly, Morgan.
But this is apparently currently being tested on animals, not some ingredient that was tested 30yrs ago, but no longer tests on animals. Maybe I'm wrong, but that was my impression.
Carolyn Hance yeah that was the impression I had as well. Then again, I can’t be sure.
They usually repeat chemical tests on animals, maybe because 70's tests would be considered old and they would need overview the safety etc.
Hey Swayze, use Sci-hub to get access to articles behind a pay wall like most in Elsevier. You just copy the DOI into the search box.
Thank you so much! I think you might have just saved my final year undergrad.
Bianca Manelli in school, you should be able to access any study through the school portal. When I was in college, I could even access it from home (through the school portal), I just had to login with my school info. Colleges/universities pay for access for journals. I had to access so much for classes and for my thesis.
Yeah, that's true, I have access to most journals but not every single one, sadly. And I could definitely use more sources, as I am in the middle of dissertation efforts haha
@Dalai Mami, I'm at one of the largest research schools in the country and we don't have access to everything from Elsevier. We have access to 700 of their journals, but they publish 1700+. Often if you're researching a certain topic or discipline that doesn't have a lot of financial/institutional support, you're out of luck.
Also on Saw Palmetto, you have to be careful if you have PCOS. It's good for some things, but can really jack up your system and cause worse symptoms of your PCOS. Not worth it if you ask me, a sufferer.👍🏻
Holly Walker : oh really ? I have PCOS and wanted to take saw palmetto as an anti-androgen ... what are the sides effects possible ? Thanks
Holly Walker I'm so sorry.
All I took away from her second video was woe is me! And being pissed at the people who questioned this supplement. I don't think she had much to do with this except the design packaging and the pink pills. I think she let people talk her into it and I think that that is worse than coming up with it on your own. It's going to tank and everybody is going to lose a lot of money. But don't be a beauty CZcamsr and try and sell me something to ingest! Who the hell buys supplements or medication from a beauty CZcamsr?!
Elizabeth Shaw - damn, couldn't have put it better myself... and I'm a Tati fan...
1 year later and it hasn’t tanked. Haha. Totally get what you’re saying though.
You saved me hours of research. Thank you so much
You are the reason I'm planning to go vegan. It will take me time but I promise to get there! (Current Veg that's had a lot of vegans telling me indirectly I'm immoral). I feel very safe on your channel!
Thanks for doing all this hard work - I can't believe how much investigating you had to do!
This suddenly just got super relavent again xD
i got very disappointed by tati. i thought she was legit lol. what were she thinking? she has always said supplements are BS and she does this? omgg
edit: also like, when i went vegan my nails got soooo strong and my hair is way nicer. my nails used to be kinda average i guess b4 i went vegan. they would be softish and break when they got longer. but now omggg. so white and nice :D i dont rly take any supplements except vitamin D and b complex. in my opinion if you have a good diet and take b complex that could be enough? or atleast a better start than to just pay 40 usd for osmething that MIGHT work. :/
joeyofrivia hello,, i read you tske vitamin D capsules . I have a deficiency in vitamin D , so would supplements help , fyi , a lot of the foods rich in vitamin D , i either cant have or are not available here
ye supplements help :) i live in sweden and during winter time we usually dont get enough vitamin d. our government recommend taking supplements cuz otherwise we can get deficient quite easy. im inside a lot too so ye. but it works, i recently got a blood test done and everything looks good. have u been to the doctor? sometimes u get stronger supplements on reciept i think?
finally someone who addressed this WITH FACTS!!! We can always count on you to show the truth via research!! :)
Oh Swayze, thank you for time stamping. I would love to sit here and watch for a half hour but I really can’t.
Thank you for taking the time to do the things you do as thoroughly as you do them. It means a lot to me as a viewer who likes to be well read.
I would never pay that much money for vitamins and supplements. 3 months ago I started taking a daily vitamin and a hair, skin, and nail supplement and my nails have NEVER EVER grown this much, also they very rarely break any more, and most impressive to me is I've noticed that they barely have any ridges any more which is crazy to me bc I've had nail ridges my whole life. so yeah, save yourself the money and pick up some vitamins at Walmart for like 6 bucks.
Your makeup looks so good! Love the lip color
When I heard Tati was working with a team of scientists, I got happy. Then, when seeing the ingredients, I got a bit sceptical, especially when there were either no studies actually saying that some of the ingredients worked. Like other people here, I wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt, and it kind feels like she got scammed... I don't know whether she is one of those people that just isn't capable of doing good research online by herself, or that she trusted people with a degree to be knowledgeable, or whether something about the way the whole team worked together is not working, or that the scientists she used are "specialists in natural supplements"... something about the "science" part is very off...
lollsazz it doesnt have to work, it has to kaching her bank account...
Of course it has to - she has to make money in one way or another. It's totally normal that a job you do is supposed to bring in money. I'm just wondering how the science/research part of making the formula actually came to be. Tati doesn't want to tell what scientists she worked with. I can understand that those people might not want to become "famous", but at the same time, it makes it even harder to trust the research has been conducted well. However, who knows - Tati has been looking for fame since childhood (acting roles, reality TV), so who knows - she might be a fake person and just hiding it well. There have been discrepancies in her stories before, like: she said she was poor when she was younger, but also that she' been going to salons in Beverly Hills since she was 18 - what actually poor person can afford that?
I don't think you understand what "private label" means: it means that the EXACTLY same product is sold by someone else, which is not the case here. Private labelling means slapping one's own name on an already finished, existing product. However, there's other shady things going on, like: the ingredient that is being touted as "super expensive" is made by... her husband, James. Basically: HE chooses the price. HOWEVER, the EXACT same ingredient, which is called Ceramide-PCD can be purchased alone, in non-fancy capsules, and it's pretty cheap: the cheapest is about $4.5, yes for the amount that Tati has in ONE of her boxes. The ceramide can also be found plenty of other places, like iherb - it's not unique to Tati's supplements. The other ingredients Tati has in the capsules are much cheaper though, and probably adds to something like $10-12 of ingredients. This does not mean Tati is making $30 a box - she might have made plenty of decisions that cost her a lot, however, I don't see anything special about her vitamins
lollsazz It's not made by James though. Basically they private labeled that ingredient and slapped their trademarked name Ceramide RX on it.
Thank you for all the timestamps and sources!
Maybe she should look into making a topical creme instead
mintjaan That was possibly next on her list with the magic CeramideRX ?
Biotin broke my skin out SO crazy bad!! Like cystic acne. I had to stop taking it! Very informative video! 😄👏
Seriously? wow. Thanks for sharing.
Me too!!
You seem to be an honest person. And your points were unbiased. It's hard to get unbiased reviews these days. Thanks :)
Excellent, well researched video 👌
I don't know if wheat-derived ceramide would make the product unable to be labeled gluten free, but that could be why she chose to use the rice extract. I believe Tati is gluten free.
alyssa.does.life - yea she is, and because she's actually allergic to it.
Danielle Trigueros I thought she had an allergy, but I wasn't sure so I didn't want to say anything.
Yea, she is one of the few people who are gluten free for medical reasons.... lol
alyssa.does.life Yes I believe so, however it was tested on mice, it's in the study she used!
Yes it is, but people can also have intolerances to rice products too!
Didn’t she say on Twitter that the pills removed her step son’s eczema? I don’t know if the tweet still there, but that’s quite a bold claim that theoretically could get her in trouble since it’s a medical claim.
Side Ponytail Girl correct. she did
ellenkotsub yup. She did not say “cure”, so it might slide, but still... mobile.twitter.com/glamlifeguru/status/973434575601917952
Yea my doctor just told me to try different over the counter creams and avoid sun and highly scented body products which could cause irritation
I wish It was a miracle pill to make my hair grow and have beautiful skin, but.. no.
mofetabionica Eat more raw fruits and veggies. It's not a miracle but it does work.
Jessica Ramirez And water ;)
Yes, I was being sarcastic :P
Try jamacian castor oil
even tati has a crazy skincare routine and hair extensions. LMAO
I've been following you for years and I'm quite surprised you started being interested in the beauty community. Positively surprised, that is. Never though I'd hear you talk about KvD's latest palette :D Thank for another well researched and interesting video
Thank you so much for doing some unbiased and fact based research! I've never been a big fan of Tati's, but this was beyond the pale. Trying to sell people makeup or skin care is one thing, but trying to shill ingestable supplements? You better know your shit. And clearly she didn't.
I am not sure if someone has mentioned this to you already as I am just getting caught up on your videos but Halo Beauty is not vegan/cruelty free. The ceramide she purchases is tested on mice. She will not address this and blocks/deletes any mention of it on any of her videos.
Thank you for making this video and the research that went into it. I’ve been interested in these types of supplements, but it’s very hard to find information that really goes into detail about the ingredients and how effective they are (or not). :)
I've discovered your channel just recently ... and I think you're a voice of pure reason! Keep up the good work, lots of love from Slovenia :*
review the kale seitan vitamin
I heard it’s vegan :P
lola80 No, it's a scam too.
I take biotin gummies from Vitafusion on the recommendation of my doctor. Cost per month: $6. And they're yummy, so double win.
Can you do something on hyaluronic acid taken topically and internally? Would love your take on it.
Yessss I was hoping you’d do this video !!!
I burst out laughing when she "revealed" this garbage, and then promptly unsubscribed when, in the next video, she talked about it for a good 2-3 min at the beginning of her next video, which was compleatly unrelated to these damn pills. I'll be damned if I'm going to be forced to watch commercials for something like that constantly. I don't mind ads when a company I have nothing against sponsor a content creator, but I'm not going to watch videos and be sold to by the youtuber I'm subscribed to when it's for things that have no backing in science. It feels so strange because I have literally never heard her talk about supplements EVER. This just feels like her needed something to sell outside of youtube and going the quick and easy route. She claims to have been "working of it for years" but I call bullshit on that. Nu-uh..
I’m glad you came out with this video!...this is unrelated, but what lipstick are you wearing? I love the shade
Isabel M IKR?! I was going to ask that question and I'm glad somebody else did! If somebody is going to start wearing makeup they're going to have to start Fielding questions such as what is that lipstick shade and Company because I love the color! I do love the color. :-)
Glad to know I wasn't the only one thinking about her lipstick. It really does look great! (And yes, please tell us what it is!)
I really appreciate how thourough you are when it comes to finding scientific-based peer-reviewed research!
This video is very well made. As a biochemist, I am very skeptical about a lot of beauty and health claims, especially if they can easily be debunked in 5 min on Google. I think the way you approached these supplements is unbiased and neutral, taking each ingredient step by step. I like how you edited this video as well, no overediting, innuendos, memes, or shouting. All in all, keep up the good work! Subscribing!
I wish she would put the research she did, if the lab planned to publish that should have prior the launch of the product, but I find the tests massively important.
Rafaella Chiarella
It can take a lot of time to publish a scientific paper.
Alex Noa I know first Hand. I am a physicist, I know it takes lot of time. But according to her she did the research, and has the results, even a report of the trial can be published meanwhile the papers pass the accepting process in the journal.
Rafaella Chiarella
I do not know their reasoning, but they may not want to release their work until it gets through the peer reviewed process. I don't know in physics (as I have zero experience in it) but when I was studying applied entomology I had never known anyone to publish their research outside of the peer review process. Many complained about the process, specifically that people should be paid to do a peer review.
Rafaella Chiarella
Of course they may have lied and haven't done any research whatsoever.
Alex Noa I hope they are not lying. Indeed some journals don't allow you to release the report before they publish it. But I think it should be paired with the product release, it is possible to plan it so.
yes!! thank you for this video!!
Love how logic-based your videos are... very refreshing!
This video is very informative and makes me think about the beauty products people buy. I love all your videos, they're like entertaining literature reviews!!
Yes yes yes I was waiting for swayze's take on this. Thank you so much!!
In Germany there are supplements way cheaper made by doctors.
Greson Soyle ja nicht wahr... sogar für uns schweizer ist das viieeeel zu teuer ....
Ganz genau
thanks for this vid, I learned a lot! I know too many people that would purchase Halo beauty (or any hair/skin/nail supplement) and rave about it, so I appreciate videos like this where I can gain some insight. I also wanted to say your skin looks amazing!
Wow I love that you talked about this, thanks!!!
Looking at the before and after photos and testimonials now, I think the most likely reason those people are seeing results is that they were deficient in at least some of the vitamins in Halo
Given that the one ceramide study found a significant placebo effect, positive outcome for rosehip with a no placebo group isn't acceptable. These million dollar industries have the money to studey this properly smh
Yvonne Mariane - to be fair, these research studies are not all funded by the "industry".... and small studies, can lead to bigger, more comprehensive studies. They have to start somewhere. If a small research study shows intriguing results, that can lead to funding for bigger studies... which can lead the even bigger studies. My guess is the results in the small studies weren't blowing anyone away enough to fund further research.
Is it intentional that your hair and skin look so 👌🏼 on point in this vid, considering the commentary? Red is your color Lady! And this is my favorite hair length for you. Oh and I also totally agree with your research. 🙂
I just love your channel!💛💛
