    It has been a topic I've wanted to cover since the start of Film Theory, and now that Spiderman Homecoming is in theaters I figured what better time? And after plenty of research, it turns out that our Friendly Neighborhood Spiderman is DEAD! Pure and simple. And it's by his own doing! In the end it is not the Rhino, or Vulture, or any other animal that stomps this pest into the ground. No, it is that cruel mistress known as Physics!

    Couple of things I feel like got overlooked to prove the point. You mentioned compression pants with the pilots, it could be argued that his suit is especially compressive around his legs. Secondly, his DNA was changed with the bite, it could've given him better vascular control similar to how the spider can control the output of it's heart, so he could constrict arteries and veins in his legs to prevent pooling. And with him hitting that wall, it's shown his feet hitting the ground multiple times, the friction from that could've slowed him a decent amount (idk cause idk the math). Also going along with the idea of his DNA changing, it most likely strengthened his bones and could've created that second inner skeleton you mentioned with spiders, inside of his ribcage, helping soften the impacts. It could've even strengthened his bone, but also made them less dense so he doesn't weigh as much and this has less momentum to hurt himself with.
    But those are just some possibilities without any actual basis, you're the theorist, not me

    I always thought he was able to handle all of those kinds of movements and landings because the genetically altered spider gave him not just super strength, reflexes, agility, etc., but it also gave him super human durability. It just kinda makes sense cause if you noticed with all of the characters in marvel who are given super strength abilities also get superhuman durability seeing that it's always those characters make those movements consistently and not other characters without super strength. Not to mention the fact that he also has superhuman healing, not to the same extent as wolverine or deadpool, just saying that our boy Spidey can handle it.

    Spider sense might come from a feature of large aracnids, that being their sensitivity to vibrations in the ground. Scorpions even developed two limbs underneath their thorax specifically to detect vibrations in the ground. Some terantulas use the long hairs on their body to similar use. This feature let's aracnids respond to threats without seeing them.

  • @zeng0304
    @zeng0304 Před 6 lety +1356

    I would have to disagree with this video as the radioactive spider change Peter Parker physiology. for one, when giving him super strength, he have to be able to support the weight he carry. spiderman was shown to lift 11 ton. a normal human physiology would not be able to handle the pressure of 22000 pound. so Peter Parker have to have denser bones and other change in his tissue to support that pressure. in addition, spider man have enhanced healing factor of regular human, however not as fast as deadpool and wolverine. there is a past case of a man with mutation of higher bone density than normal human by eight time surviving a severe car crash with out any feature or spinal injury. Also want to point out at one point of the story the writer are saying spiderman power are also magical ability. Some kind of spider spirit granting him power, not entirely sure. Anyway, My point is that matpat shouldn't look at spiderman as a regular human. If this video is about if a regular human attempting spiderman stunt they it would be fine, but he is going with if spiderman attempting spiderman stunt. It should be looking at the perspective of how can spiderman survive instead of can spiderman survive. by looking at the "how" it would explore on the possibility. Look at what the changes his body went through to obtain these feat. (This is taking from a video from "because science" on "nerdist"). For example on his wall climbing ability, can he actually climb wall with his small spider hair using only his finger tips and toes when there is a piece of clothes in-between the surface he is climbing on and his skin. The guy from "because science" say no, but he also explore what is the possibility that allow him to do it. And he came to a conclusion of technology of the fabric and spiderman's hair that allow him to climb wall while wearing the spidersuit

      @merriellemandy8131 Před 6 lety +64

      It may have made his bones denser, but it didn't change his circulatory system. The fact that he's shown bleeding proves that (spiders don't have blood). He'd still pass out from going that fast because of his closed circulatory system. When it comes to the healing factor, I'd say anything that isn't almost instantaneous would probably not help much after having his heart shoved into his rib cage. Mutant spider DNA doesn't effect physics, so swinging around like that at such speeds would definitely move some stuff around. I get what you're saying and you brought up some good counter points, but I'd say there's a pretty good chance Peter is dead.

      Spider-man isn't technically a man anymore or a Human to be clear. Because of the drastic changes in his physiology, he has become his own species. He is a humanoid just different like how Homo neanderthalensis is related to Homo sapiens. Spider-man shares the same genus with us however we are not the same, so to hold him to the same standard as us Sapiens isn't accurate. Also nobody in the marvel universe has actually dissected spider-man to my knowledge or done any true analysis on his physiology to confirm the absence of any inhuman bio structures inside his body.

    There's nothing tricky about when Spider-Man uses webshooters and when he does not. Originally, he built them himself. The Maguire movies did away with the concept of webshooters in favour of "natural" spinnerets (the logistics of those are a different matter) and capitalizing on the popularity of the Maguire trilogy of movies the comics implemented the concept when altering Spidey's powers during the arc "The Other", which started in 2006, between the second and third Maguire movies. So when you say "and then the movies gives him the power right off the bat" it's completely backwards. The movies did it first. It's only complicated if you didn't read up on it.
    "Why is Spider-sense a thing?" Well, THERE is an area where things do actually get complicated. The comics explain this in a variety of ways, a lot of the time due to plot contrivance, but as a general rule of thumb it's considered precognition using a variety of factors: pheromones (these can be blocked or fooled, which is why some threats, such as Venom, doesn't register), Peter's naturally gifted mind being enhanced to subconsciously calculate impending dangers faster, an increase in the sensing of vibrations to locate threats. The in-universe explanation to the connection of this ability to spiders is the spider's multitude of eyes giving greater range of vision, the hair on the bodies of some spider's being used as a sort of whisker, and the spider sensing vibrations through their webs. The last one is twofold, since it refers to the sensing of vibrations, but also refers to the mystical element of the web linking the "spiders" in the comics universe. These, of course, are explanations added after the fact, but that's commonplace in comics, so it's not really a huge point of contention.
    "His DNA may have changed with the spider bite, but he's still a human"
    This is where your argument starts to fall to pieces. For some reason you accept the fact that the bite changed his DNA in such a way that he became physically stronger, but you don't think the rest of his body also changed? Well, joke's on you Matpat, it did. Not only did the bite make him stronger, it fundamentally changed his body structure, and yes, this is actually explained in various places in the comics. Most notably during Back in Black, a several page article explaining his powers was published. At that time he had his "Other" powers as well, but the logic behind his powers remain the same. To get back on track. Peter did not only become stronger, he became more durable and flexible as well. Spider-Man has taken blows from the Hulk and remained conscious, far exceeding any G forces that him swinging on a web or faceplanting a building would impact. For frick's sake, Spider-Man has been sent hurtling through multiple buildings and down into the ground, and remained conscious. Yes, *multiple*. Then there's a further twist to the tale. Spider-man has a healing factor. It's not as fast or potent as say Wolverine's or Deadpool's, but he has it.
    If you want to argue that his exploits would kill any normal human being, then fine, no one is going to argue that point. But post-bite Peter is anything but a normal human being.

    While spiders don't possess outright precognition the way spider-sense is sometimes depicted, they do have really acute senses that allow them to perceive and avoid potential threats. So spider-sense does have a real-world basis, even if it is often exaggerated because comic books.

    Spider-sense doesn't allow him to predict the future it just lets him know when something is coming at him and in which direction. And it's pretty safe to assume something moving towards you at high speed is probably a danger to you. To my knowledge, spiders in real life are extremely sensitive to vibrations, so maybe Peter is sensing vibrations in the ground and changes in air pressure to determine the approximate speed and direction of something coming towards him?

You mentioned that pilots have to wear compression suits to handle the extra G-forces, which makes sense, but what if because spider man has super strength, his muscles are acting as a natural compression suit, and armor that helps him absorb impacts easier? I mean, in order to be stronger you need more muscle right? So maybe the swinging isn't actually killing spiderman?

    And due to Spider-Man's spider sence mostly sencing danger seconds before it happening you can relie it on a spider sencing (as example) the vibration caused by the movement of a nearby predator

Because if you had gotten to see the premiere *sad face*... then you'd know that Peter's new suit is in-fact one big compression suit. It's not just spandex, but goes on almost vacuum-like. So it's very easy to believe that Tony Stark, man of genius, knows a thing or two about G-Force and put the counter balancing tech into the suit.

    I actually have this theory that the MCU spider isn't radioactive because of oscorp or anything- it was exposed to an infinity stone, which made it radioactive. This would fix the problem in this video because the same way mcu quicksilvers body was adapted for his speed (not burning up and stuff) Peters body would do the same thing (he falls flat on his face and is fine!). Like this idea?

    • @marcoscaraballo6248
      @marcoscaraballo6248 Před 6 lety +21

      I'd believe that, but remember that MatPat made this theory on the homecoming one, yet he based it on the movie that had a man made of sand, a crazy scientist that became superhuman out of desperation and another good scientist that tried to create an artificial sun, invented robo-arms he could control without trouble until they broke and developed consciousness. Heck, he decided to make the most boring theory out of the Tobey Maguire trilogy.

As shown in Captain America Civil War, he has enough strength to lift a bus. His strength makes him almost a super soldier. Captain America managed to survive a fall from a very high altitude in avengers endgame in a fight against his past self. If he could survive it, why can't spiderman.
