Everything about this Journalist, his inquisitive tilt of the head, his hostile gaze, his smug, self-satisfied face, his accusations, made me a JP fan.
Don't forget the crossed legs and looking down his nose with his complicates "smart guy" glasses.
And the absolutely wild opening statement .. "you seen angry, are you angry? Like wtf bro? Yeah I'm bloody angry now, wtf kind of question is that in an interview? 😂
He has lots of micro expressions and gestures that make Simon so compelling to watch, as he tries to catch JP out.
Everything that is wrong about journalism: Simon Wilson. Three years ago, I wrote to him (without getting an answer): Dear Mr. Wilson, among all controversial interviews with Mr. Peterson, yours is truly outstanding. First, because of your mellow, pleasant voice and your very fine taste for intellectual glasses. But mostly, because you control your animus very well, trying to give the impression of an engaged journalist, who is just asking some important questions. The big effort for control covers the glaring expression, that your politeness is the most useful cover for arrogance. And that arrogance can't hide you're just performing preconceptions. Peterson, the angry egotist. At the end of every topic, you keep the last word with ironical degradation. You just talk over your guest, if it gets too much for you, or provoke him with out-cranked taunt. (20:30) The book is all black and white, but you cannot name one example. Wasn't there enough time to write down at least one? Maybe there was, but your animus made you forget it. Your disgust of Peterson is lurking through every look and every word. You are no journalist. Wilson is an intellectual cur and coward. He uses these snide, cheap and intellectually dishonest tactics, because he knows he cannot defeat Peterson on reason, facts and logic. He hasn't the wit, integrity or facts to do it. Hence the cheap tactics he has to resort to. it's the Liberal "interviewer" playbook.
Cathy Newman tried to do the same thing, but made the mistake of giving Peterson the time to answer fully and humiliate her - ever so politely - in the process. Actually, she humiliated herself.

He's by far the most polite person to interview Peterson, of all the ones who don't like him. But you're right, his animosity is well controlled...but it's there and you can see it. Bad form for trying to stroke anger out of Peterson in such a feeble and manipulating manner, he needs to be better.

That interviewer is a jerk. It is not only angry young men who follow Jordan. I agree with Jordan and watch all of his interviews and admire his directness. I am female and 71. My daughter and grand daughters also watch him. He is not angry, he is direct and factual and doesn't wishy wash life.

The Lauren Southern and Stefan Molyneux interview with another NZ "journalist" was equally as atrocious. New Zealand journalism must be very, very, low brow.

I TOTALLY AGREE. As a woman I don't see were the controversy is. He is brilliant te the core.
As an Australian he isn't as widely known here so I never encountered a hater until I travelled through Yemen with some Americans. When he came up in conversation one of the American men said "He's a foul, misogynistic messiah to pseudo-intellectuals who hate women.". The other two Americans chimed in agreement so I asked for an example. He was genuinely stunned becuase I don't think he'd ever encountered push back on that rehearsed quip. As we were in a place with no internet, and nothing to do for hours but talk, the discussion ended in him admitting that he'd never seen, heard or read anything by Peterson, he'd just been told 3rd hand that he was bad.
Sorry for the essay but that was very eye opening to me.
I've met people from all levels of society back home and abroad and tens of them laud the positive effect in their lives from Peterson, I've yet to meet someone that hates him as a result of actually listening to said.
I imagine a lot of people would have been very happy to hear you say that.

I see it a little differently. I am a big fan of Jordan’s, however the fact that he has to be constantly on his guard means that some opportunities to further explore and challenges his ideas in these interviews (which takes courage I will admit) are lost when he hides behind the barricades of his long held beliefs.

The journalist has wasted an enormous opportunity to explore JP's mind and produce an interview that will have some positive impact. Alas, he threw his chance down the drain and will only be remembered as a fool.
I’ve never seen an interviewer get so thoroughly schooled by a guest. Talk about an intellectual dressing down. I felt sorry for that interviewer after a while. What an utter humiliation.
I wouldn't spend too much time feeling sorry for this jerk. He tried and tried to misrepresent Peterson's ideas. Not as smart as he thought himself to be -- he got bested each time and kept exposing his bias and inadequacy as an interviewer.

I love how the interviewer said "that's a jump from what I said" and then immediately jumps into another question. He must find it hard to be questioned, especially as a journalist.

The interviewer is trying his best to antagonize Jordan and failing miserably... Jordan is so amazingly calm and authentic
My favourite part is near the end where he clearly gives up on trying to make Jordan angry and simply states "you seem very angry"
Can anyone make sense of these JP tidbits: 6. "The ignorant Left says you can place the responsibility for hierarchy and inequality at the feet of western civilization and capitalism...that is unbelievably wrong."
7. "You should always view people as individuals first and as members of a collective far second....this is what accounts for the spread of freedom and democracy."
8. "The world is in a messy state, whose fault is it, yours, its not some identifiable group."

You can see it on his face, in his eyes. He's dead-set on demonising JP in the aims of supporting this new fascist nanny state. I became a fan of Jordan Peterson after watching him not only survive "ambush journalism", but watching him win these arguments. He accuses the left-leaning journalists of being lazy and uncreative. I read the "Gulag Archipelago" because Dr. Peterson has recommended it multiple times. What an eye opener.

I'm a 40 year old black man who lives in America and have been following JBP for the last year and read 12 Rules. Having said that, I have several friends who follow him as well, so this notion that all his followers are white men is just nonsense. I even post some of his videos on my FB from time to time and black people who don't know who JBP tend to agree with his message or the points in the videos I share. The only time someone says something negative on my posts is when it's someone who's "heard of" Jordan Peterson before.

It's frustrating that Simon doesn't seem to pay attention to the answers given and is more focused on trying to catch the person off guard with the next question. However, Jordan being questioned handles every question calmly and articulately, which is an excellent display of fairness and honesty.
This was such an impressive display of stoicism from Mr Peterson I’ve seen in an interview. Granted it’s some time ago and he has had many, many dialectical and personal challenges since then, but I salute Mr Peterson for his composure and professionalism in this interview. This level of control and level headedness is impressive.
The interviewer is unbearably irritating. He’s masking his anger because Peterson made him look foolish. He’s insecure and did a horrible job of trying to flip the table with the angry bs. It was impossible for me to not be irritated by him to the point of anger. Good for dr Peterson. I think anger because of the dishonesty of the interviewer in this situation in precisely what it should be. Imagine being that guy’s wife or child. God what a pretentious man

Totally agree with the OP, but some of the replies in this thread have to take it down a few notches. The interviewer definitely had an agenda and asked loaded questions, but peterson handled himself gracefully. There's no need to let you anger get the best of you. You shouldn't idolize Peterson, you should follow his example.

Yeah the tipping point for me was when he was accusing Peterson of sowing confusion. He had to be willfully ignorant, actively ignoring Petersons views to come to the conclusions they want. It's pathetic

As another commenter mentioned and I agree, it’s a good thing that the NZ Herald posted the discussion in full form. But I’m suspicious that they didn’t put their best foot forward with Simon intentionally, perhaps having had seen the view count disparity between ‘controversial’ JP interviews and otherwise constructive JP interviews. I don’t wan’t to support that kind of thinking either, but I wouldn’t downvote based on a suspicion.

I've seen my fair share of Peterson interviews conducted by aggressive, uninterested activists, but this is a whole different level. There's something deeply rotten and despicable about this Wilson guy and the fact that he unsuccessfully tries to sugar coat it in the hallmarks of classic journalistic engagement just makes it all the more laughable and egregious.
I am a New Zealand citizen, and I’ve never been more disappointed in a New Zealand journalist… What ever happened to impartial journalism?! Why not ask him questions about his philosophies, let him answer and then move on… Rather than challenge, attempt to manipulate and try and bait him into a combative situation. God that pisses me off.

Why is it that everyone else can get to grips with Jordan Peterson's messages EXCEPT JOURNALISTS?
Because these days 'journalists' are activists and activists have a bias and an agenda. True journalism is near dead.
There is a definite element of jealousy surfacing in some of these interviews. Some have an air of big game hunting, as if the interviewer wants to be the first one to bag a Jordan Peterson which would make them a rock star in the journalistic circles. These people would wonder why I would equate "journalist" with "resentful condescension".

I'm a woman who is so very grateful to men like Jordan Peterson, and who thinks men like Simon Wilson ought to be ashamed.
I am also a woman, an aboriginal woman, living in JBP's home province, that absolutely admires that man. I am almost done reading 12 Rules and even purchased his audible so JBP himself reads the book to me. I will read this book many times in my life. It's wonderfully written and I even bought a copy for my parents. They now follow his lectures and interviews on CZcams. It's fantastic to watch how being on the RIGHT side always wins over the hateful left. Hilarious really. I don't know who that NZ journalist is but he's such a LOSER. He lost every time he tried building a straw man argument. He would know that JBP is the leader of destroying straw man arguments, but he's literally the male version of Kathy Newman! At least Kathy Newman had grace and could accept defeat.

It’s clear Jordan really cares for people, he has no agenda he just really really cares... the amount of mainstream interviewers that look utterly foolish, uneducated and ridiculous while trying to put words in to Jordan’s mouth or slander his character show their agenda perfectly, they don’t care about us people. Jordan is a man who have saved people and is trying to awaken society to this and prevent the next Holocaust, trust me it’s coming. Bless Jordan, he has saved my life, a woman whom was loosing hope with society, the comments on all of his lectures and interviews have restored hope, they aren’t all indoctrinated hate filled disassociated individuals. I am stunned by the sophomoric mentality of this so-called journalist. Has the legacy media learned precisely nothing from the Cathy Newman incident? Never mind; these attempts to box Dr Peterson into a corner will continue to backfire, much to the embarrassment of those trying to curate such a disingenuous frame and ultimately winning Jordan further support from honest men and women. As a new Zealander, I’m appalled by this interview. Horrible, absolutely horrible what that journalist was doing. Kudos to JP for being polite and patient with this unprofessional gas lighting journalist. Never liked NZ Herald.

yep it's sad that this is what they feel that the people want to watch .. didn't the get the notion that people really do enjoy a good progressive conversion and discussion over trying to get sound bytes. All they have to do is look at the views to which people like Micheal Parkinson was able to get in order to know this.
Jordan Peterson has had to deal with a lot of interviewers who think so highly of themselves, whose style is to try to make him angry enough to lose his cool...it is funny because they never can.
Hard to watch how JP can't handle the tough questions, and as per usual he tries to weasel his way out of them. For me it was easy to watch, I am not in the cult.
I find it amusing that every journalist who attempts to outsmart Jordan Peterson ends up getting humiliated, and yet they keep on coming.
While there are some highly intelligent journalism majors, journalism is near the bottom of the pile when it comes to average SAT scores of matriculating undergrads.

This type of conversation is useful to happen once in a while because you get to see an example of gaslightning attempt and false interviewing get destroyed by proper thinking and managing your emotions in the face of manipulation. Being well informed and educated are the primary tools into facing situations like this. Then you have to say what you think and know preserving your temper. Thank you JP.
This world really has gone bunkers. Here is someone that can be easily discerned as genuine and very clear in thought and speech. Able to say what many of us would like to say but don't know how to. Speaking candidly and without vilifying or insulting....sorting the sense out of nonsense etc and the man is literally being tried by all the agenda bearing groups and journalists. Beautifully put and well said. I particularly love the point when Peterson explained that, he's not angry, instead he's in pain, it's sadness not anger. Men don't express sadness in the same way Women do. Peterson explains that he's in pain, that it makes him incredibly sad to see that just a tiny amount of encouragement has THAT much impact on Men in general, that it speaks to a disgusting problem in our society...because it does.
I miss mainstream interviews with Jordan Peterson. But I can also understand why he doesn't do them anymore.

There's nothing else to do any more. Peterson has been doing thousands of interviews all over the world for years, and the conversation and topics covered are always the same. I know everything Jordan's going to say before he says it by now.
Id rather see some entertainment where he's poked and prodded.
I particularly like Dr. P's method of insult via factual statement (journalists reading other journalists and not reading the source - which flew by undetected by this asshat who clearly wasn't seeking any type of truth or meaning, just seeking his tribal affiliation)

I have not commented on a video in a while but this interviewer was an embarrassment. He was incredibly accusatory, condescending and clearly came in hostile. Disgusting.
Initially I tried to picture him as well researched, presenting the misquotes and misinterpretations which so many people have echoed around the net, but then the cut-offs and switching to another question whenever Jordan had a calm and reasonable response became irritating. I have to agree with your assessment.

I believe JP may be one of the smartest intellectuals of our time. This kind of tough vetting must be the path to greatness. We may not like it but only through fire can the medal be purified.

He asked tough questions and Dr. Peterson had an answer each and every time. Made me respect and appreciate him that much more.
He had an agenda. He consistently tried to pin shit on peterson. He came across as a snake in the grass.
He didn't give Peterson even chance to respond properly, to complicated topics. Each of the question was only a try to frame Peterson, then he immediately jumped to another.

If you want my full honesty, at least Cathy Newman was straightforward with her intent. She more so did not understand Peterson _at all,_ and seemed to actually believed her own ideological thoughts.

I’m a woman in my 70’s and find Jordan’s lectures are a shining light in dark times. He is an example of a generous bright man who provides leadership to better lives. This interviewer is an ideologue who aim is just to trap Jordan.
We're all lucky to have this man look out for the younger generation. That is the heartwarming part about Jordan. He genuinely cares about our society and is actively working to fight against tyranny and poisonous ideologies.

Here we have another journalist that believes he is intelligent and decides to interview an expert in a specific field of study. We have another individual that has misinterpreted, misquoted, and has a fundamental misunderstanding about the subject matter in general and continually tries to put words in the interviewee's mouth to control the direction of the conversation. Dr. Peterson on the other hand is smart enough to not engage this type of behavior and has the self discipline to stay calm in the face of ignorance.

This is not an interview. This is a blatant attack. The interviewer does not allow JP to finish his sentences or ideas. If this was done to someone else, people would be completely mad. What an elegant way to handle a very passive aggressive interview!

to ask questions and to talk over the answers as much as possible.

This interviewer acted entirely inappropriately. It needn't really be articulated because its so self evident thats it's embarssing to even watch. He was rude, dismissive, and obnoxious. He didn't act like an interviewer, with thoughtful questions, instead he attempted to display his own ideology with rhetoric and falsity. Frankly its shameful.

I'm a Kiwi and I was embarrassed watching this. Some, if not all of his questions were espousing claims that were completely untrue, placed entirely incorrect words in his mouth and tried way too hard to misrepresent him in a way that was just cringe. I cringed so hard that my face almost turned inside out.
