@@aquaticats7118 As was already pointed out in the debate it is not the same thing. Forcing the use pronouns outside the norms for a given language is compelled speech. No one is suggesting you be forced to use the racial epithet "n" word. Not allowing it's use is anti-discrimination and the opposite of forcing you to use it.

I am very grateful to Dr Peterson for standing up for what he believes on, even though he says he speaks for himself, he is actually fighting to save many children and young adults from having to learn absolutely irrelevant things, like made up pronouns. I wish more of us had his courage.

The thing is pronouns are not respect. You cannot demand respect it is earned, if you force respect it's no longer respect its subjugation. If someone chooses not to use your pronouns then fine, move on and ignore them they aren't hurting you so just move on.
The point is less than 1% of the population shouldn't get a law forcing the other 99% to use insane pronouns or be punished by the government if you don't.

Several years ago I believed everything the media was saying about jordan now i think he is one of the most important proponents of western values we have. Its only because of people like him there is any pushback at all against things that literally threaten western democracy. From a linguistic point of view, Dr. Peterson is spot on. Changes in language take place naturally, out of common use, they have never been imposed. In the Spanish language, we have The Spanish Real Academy that sets certain rules but even they have to get together with other Latin American Academies of the Spanish language over a certain period of time to include in the dictionary words that were not considered correct previously but now are commonly accepted. Why? Because language is dynamic, not imposed.
I couldn't agree more. Language is always dynamic and is always changing in a NATURAL WAY. You can't just force something into a language's grammar. Words are okay since they are just a matter of singular and plural, or gender in some languages. But a Pronoun? That's a whole new level. You have to mess with the language's grammar and structure. We cannot call those people male/female, therefore we cannot use boy/girl, or man/woman... Is a newborn or a 1 to 4-year-old boy or girl able to decide what pronoun they want to be referred to?
What about grammar? Adjectives, adverbs, objects, sentence structures, demonstrative pronouns, possessive pronouns, plural and singular forms, verb conjugation in all tenses, vocatives, declinations, and so on. Those people are delusional. Some demand to be referred to as they/them/their. Uh-uh, shouldn't it be they/them/their/THEIRS/THEMSELF/THEMSELVES? The pronoun "they" is the 3rd-person plural. So it means that they don't have a singular pronoun? That single person is always a collective? Since "they" is plural, when referring to a trans-woman, we should say "They are over here!" Then, let's be consistent and do it right. You cannot just pick a pronoun and that's it. You MUST do it accordingly:
- DO Betty cook? HAVE Sean done their homework? DO THESE Carl PEOPLE know English?
- ARE Meghan doing okay? Shawn HEARTS BEAT very fast. Hanah MAKE things for THEMSELVES.
- Dylan? THOSE PEOPLE? I do not want to talk to THEM.
Lol, it's easy to think it is all about just picking a pronoun and having people refer to you by it. But there's a thing called GRAMMAR. Let's just stop this nonsense and let language follow its course as it has always been. Should new pronouns appear, language itself will naturally take care of them and all of their grammar rules by itself. Every single word there is today has evolved/derived from others. You cannot just create a word (pronouns, in this case) out of nowhere and that's it. What about etymology, morphology, phonetics, and phonology? Peer said that just in NY there are 31 new "gender identifications." What if each one decides to create a new pronoun? We will have 31 new pronouns. Should I organize my Contacts by pronouns now?

I am trans and I whole heartedly support Prof Peterson. It is estimated that transgendered people make up .03% of the population. Who in their right mind could possibly ]expect 99.7% of the population to adapt to the needs of .03%?

I would like to insert that transsexuals are individuals and do not all insist that other people call them by designated pronouns. Personally, I wish I could dissociate myself from extremists that make these unreasonable demands. I find this problem to be very disconcerting.

here in Germany we don't have any plans for gender pronouns nor do any gender pronouns exist afaik. If I see a transgender person, which happens pretty rarely, I guess if it's rather a male or female. I never met a dude who couldn't identify as male or female. In the end your chromosomes are what makes you male, female or intersexual.

What is there to argue about? If you feel like you are a tea pot and identify as such, but look like a 21 year old woman, then why should he assume you are a tea pot and start to greet you like that or start to assume you could be a tea pot?
Why do we need to complicate things in such a way, that is biologically incomprehensable? The reason why there are two ways to pronounse is based upon the biology, because it simpliefies the communication. It doesn't take and doesn't have to take into account, that someone has a mental psychological problem with identifying as such. It's just the smarter way of communication and if you feel offended by smart communication, then you seem to have way bigger problems than being pronounsed incorrectly.

Gender Studies exists because it wants to operate outside the standards of investigation and rationality that Sociology uses.
