Yeah, I also liked that "official" console magazines came with demo discs, like Official Sega Dreamcast Magazine, Official PlayStation Magazine, and Official Xbox Magazine. It's really sad that demo discs went away.
A lot of publications had great demos back then, it was something to look forward for and read about it some more.That's sadly no longer the case.

There's plenty I dislike about modernity, but I can't deny a lot of its accomplishments, propelled by capitalism, like it or not.
I will never understand what audience they expected to come instead... like, gamers are THE audience in regards to video games, there's nobody else who would read gaming news. It boggles the mind.

It's why I think Capitalism gets so much hate because it holds a mirror up to the individual and says 'are you contributing something that people want to society'. Not that anyone will really read this, but speaking from personal experience, the Australian gaming/movie/cartoon industry is heavily progressive, very similar to California. And just like the rest of the world, we have parasites at the top of the pyramid dictating what those without the "refined" tastes of our overlords should think. I'm surrounded by game devs, animators and creatives constantly and the openness they have to progressive ideas and lack of critical political thinking skills is shocking. They have no filter or moat to stop them from taking up DEI, ESG, BAME or any other twitter hot topic social movement of the month. Every month we have to celebrate a group of people I don't care about or we are encouraged to "stand up" for some stupid twitter social movement. Like bro, can Australia get back to making B grade cartoons and average horror movies set in some small town no one has heard of.

Living in a former socialist country, people like Alyssa really fail to understand that no, they would not become EICs of some hypothetical socialist state media video game website. Less relevant positions would be staffed by relatives of party functionaries. That's how socialist regimes work: It's a disgusting mix of opportunism and nepotism, and nepotism beats opportunism every time, especially at lower positions. Alyssa would fold cardboard boxes for ten hours a day in a socialist regime.
