Activism is the worst enemy of whatever it's advocating for.
Here's what Babylon Bee should do. Release the game but the first couple levels are just the Jump Hamster thing. Then at one point every level adds a new dei checkbox. Keep track on how far players go with the game till its not fun anymore
I'd buy it. That's actually a solid concept towards exposing the hypocrisy of the games industry and the vultures that are settling in on it, as well as peeling back the mask that consulting firms just offer suggestions.
There was some study I can't remember by who, but it was regarding boys and girls playing with action figures I believe. They said when boys play with them, the boys want to be the character. But when girls play with them, they want the character to be like them.
When you remember that, everything makes sense. And what happens when normies come in and take over/gatekeel.
Hasbro made an experiment in which they gave two groups of kids, boys and girls, Batman toys. The boys played like they were Batman, being generally accurate to the character, while the girls turned Batman into whatever they wanted, a husband, a gardener, a school teacher, etc. They'd also "personalize" their own Batman toys by scribbling stuff on them, like hearts, stars, all that. It was made pretty clear how different boys and girls think and behave when it comes to entertainment.
I just wish that all the women working in the industry trying to push women stuff on franchise predominantly for men acknowledged that men and women generally like different stuff, and you just can't force boys to like stuff for girls the same way the other way around is also true, which is why girls and women have had less of a presence in those massively popular _male-oriented_ franchises, not because of sexism or gatekeeping or anything like that.
Makes you think about how Barbie is just the same doll but with different accessories so she "be" different things, where as G.I. Joe is a bunch of different characters with different gear and roles that boys can choose their favorite.
LEGO did that one.

I remember hearing about that, it suddenly made sense to me why I didn't like toys of characters I wasn't familiar with. I guess I just didn't know how the character would behave, and creating a new personality for them seemed wrong.

@@tetsuo3k Babylon Bee made a video a few years actually pointing out how on the nose they are because of how whacked up reality already is. In the vid every time they tried to make a joke article about politics someone corrected them saying that their "joke topic" actually happened already.

Its happening on Board Games too. I picked up a copy of Twilight Inscription last year. The first page in the rule book had a whole paragraph about how colonialism is bad. Mind you this what's called a "Roll and Write" game meaning its a slightly more complicated from of Yahtzee. You roll the dice and mark the results on your card. And it feels the need to preach about colonialism?
Who wants to make Colonialism the Board game and its just an Old Board game from the 60s?
I bought a TTRPG on a whim called zweihander cause it looked cool. Was reading the rule book and it’s all like “zweihander is a dark realistic rpg etc etc” and then they show me a character in a wheelchair rolling around and I’m thinking you just explained how this world is gothic and grounded but you show me this.

Bee was onto something here. They didn't quite nail the progressive ideology or the business angle but they got the buzzwords and destruction of the videogames down.
I don't mind equality in games as long as it's not forced down my throat
Not equality, but equity. Where you lower the quality fo the male characters to make the female ones look better, some races are contrived to protagonism and "causes" are more important than narrative structure, all to "level the field" artificially.
Representation was better when there was "less" of it, because it was made from a place of sincerity and passion, rather than to pander, virtue signal and fill a quota.
Oppression is the best form of artificial "representation".
@@karinefonte516 Reminder that the word equity is primarily a financial one. "D, E, and I" isn't how its written, its "Diversity Equity Inclusion", its a sentence, or to put it better its "the inclusion of Diversity-Equity (or diversity based financial equity) in the company's finance". Its so that the company can legally use its own employees as part of its assets and therefore has enough equity to still get investments even when the company is in the red. This is also why the employees must be part of the initiatives, as by participating they are giving consent to the practices and are allowing themselves to be included as part of the company's finances. If an employee doesn't comply then they can't legally be considered as part of the companies equities and assets. Or something like that, I'm not great at explaining this.

Honestly if I was making games and I had someone completely destroy everything that had been created I'd just wipe the progress I'd made from the system and suggest they sell the players an $80 cartridge with nothing on it, that way they could make whatever they want on it.
Because all the ideas could be offensive to other people and a blank slate would be a much more relatable item to have.

6:52 I think the ironic part is if this wasnt a skit they'd probably *start* with the climate change thing because that's not a huge leap. "Oh hey its great and all your little Jumpy is trying to get to a princess, but what if we just added some commentary on climate change here, Jumpy needs to keep his forest protected right?" and just slowly infect it over time.

There's nothing wrong making games that you want to make. You are free to insert whatever personal politics you want but don't expect a lot of people to like it. These "progressive" ideals are numeorus iin the indie scenes like in Japanese manga where mangaka simply tell whaever story they want. The difference is that they don't shove it in everyone's throat.
