Wow. Not many ppl react to this one. One of my favorites of all time and definitely criminally underrated. Thank you🫶🏽
GO BAMA!
ROLL TIDE!
This is my all time favorite Denzel Washington movie from my childhood!
Nominated for 3 Oscars:
Best Film Editing
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing.
Indeed the Lippizaner horses are from Spain, they are bred in Slovenia and trained in Austria. In Portugal we have the Lusitano horses which (cough, cough) the whole world admires. Oh the actor who played the german sub commander in 1957 "The Enemy Below" was Curd Jurgens🙂. Great reaction!
Must see Denzel: "Glory" and "Man on Fire".
On our list!! 😊
This movie was loosely based upon an incident on October 27, 1962 at the height of the Cuban Missle Crisis. The captain of Soviet submarine B-59, Valentin Savirsky, carrying a nuclear torpedo while escorting ships delivering missles to Cuba. The sub surfaced to charge its batteries.
Upon looking through his periscope, Capt. Savitsky saw planes overflying at 20-30m, destroyers cutting them off, rolling depth charges, fire from automatic cannons, targeting of guns on them, and loudspeakers barking at them to stop their engines. The captain assumed the war was underway. Savitsky ordered an emergency dive and to load the nuclear torpedo.
The commander of the 69th submarine brigade, Vasily Arkhipov, was aboard and looking through the periscope at the same time. Realizing the Americans were signaling and not attacking, he calmed Savitsky down and avoided conflict with the surface vessels.
Who is Ricky Schroder?! What? Please show your son The Champ (1979). And remember the tissues.
😊❤
Who is now a MAGA nut job.
Yeah, we know Ricky alright.
Edit - but us younger men from Silver Spoon and Lonesome Dove.
I love all 5 of the Tony Scott/Denzel Washington films, but this is certainly my favorite. Unstoppable was the most fun movie drinking game I've ever played though, haha.
fantastic movie. dueling philosophies, each well-reasoned. just great.
Deep water has layers that inhibit sound moving easily between them so it is possible to move to a different layer to limit noise transmission. I have heard that on military ships the captain's priority is to follow his orders & ensure they are carried out while the first officers priority is the safety of the ship (to ensure those orders can be carried out) & ensuring the integrity of the orders (to ensure no renegade orders are issued/followed). I also feel that the Captain is of the class of military officer that feels he has trained all his life to fulfil a role then never been called upon, (like a pro footballer practising all his life but never getting to play) so wanted to fulfil his role to do what he was trained to do & not to be retired without playing.
SCOTT GRIMES is the actor that played Malarkey in Band of Brothers and he also plays the father/uncle on the new show Ted!!
LOVE this movie, always glad when I see a new reaction for it!
Favorite Denzel movie, maybe tied with Glory!
Great movie. Denzel was great but Gene Hackman was superb. Both great actors along with an excellent supporting cast. Gene is now 94 and several years retired
Unfortunately, I miss Gene.
I never recognized Vigo because he looked like Howie Long with that haircut. Strider on a sub! I like at the end how they didn't make Hackman the villain. He resigns and recommends him for a commission. They both respect each other even though they might not like each other. The Lippizaners ties things up in a humorous way to end tense movie with a laugh.
Happy to hear you two are going down the Denzel road. I'm here for all of it.
❤
GREAT film, love it and never get tired of watching it either. 1995 is a special and nostalgic year for me,first I saw this film at the cinema,2rd,I was in the army, stationed at Ft Hood,Tx ( now renamed Ft Cavazos ) attached to 1st Cav-Div-( one of the worst run divisions I've ever been in too ) LOL. Before serving in the army,I was also in the navy, served aboard aircraft carriers my whole enlistment and LOVED it. LOL. Got to go on a tour aboard a couple submarines ( I was actually considering sub duty ) and am so glad I didn't. LOL.
Been waiting for this one! Roll Tide!
Gene Hackman:
“RUNAWAY JURY “
Great courtroom movie, mystery!!
John Cusack, Dustin Hoffman!!
Great acting!!!
Gene Hackman-every movie he's ever made, great movie!.
Yes!!! Been waiting for this one. You promised and delivered. Thanks!!!
❤
No dutch angles in this movie. The whole set was on a gimble. the set was moving for all the underwater movement.
Great movie, one of the best submarine movies out there. You need to definitely watch "Glory" with Denzel and Matthew Broderick and a couple of other good names. Has Mom ever seen "Training Day", I know you did. "Enemy Of The State" with Gene Hackman and Will Smith is a good also if y'all have never seen it.
James Gandolfini co-starred in two other films with Denzel Washington. Can't remember the titles but think both were before "The Sopranos".
Nuclear weapons literally need a highly complex timing device to create an 'implosion' of the nuclear material from explosives positioned on all sides of the core at once, thus splitting the atom and triggering a nuclear chain reaction. Simply 'blowing up' a nuclear bomb wouldn't trigger such an effect, thankfully!
Most dangerous thing on a submarine is fire. Second most dangerous is enemy torpedoes... and a ballistic missile submarine MIGHT have been able to evade a shot of torpedoes in the 90s... but todays torpedoes are basically one shot one kill.
I used to love that silver spoon theme
Crazy that there's really only a few good submarine films, this obviously being one of them, Red October and the goat Das Boot being a couple of others. Hope you do Ricochet if you're doing Denzel season. Banging idea for a Star Wars film Nick, shame it could never be made, Disney doesn't make good films people want to see anymore.
Tarantino did uncredited rewrites on this movie for Tony Scott.
That horse dialogue was typical Tarantino writing.
@@disconnexionsdotcomthe Silver Surfer scene, too
Doing Denzel movies, please watch A Soldier’s Story, great early Denzel Washington performance and he wasn’t even the best performance in the movie. Great movie, excellent cast, heavy subject matter.
Formidable opponent ❤
Ricky Schroeder probably most famously known in NYPD also the Brad Paisley “Whisky Lullaby” music video would definitely need tissues for that music video as well
Actually, he’s most famously known for “Silver Spoons” in the 80’s.
Next time you watch, follow the green and red lighting as they decide which way to go.
For another good *Gene Hackman* movie watch *Enemy Of The State* also starring Will Smith, and for another great *James Gandolfini* movie I recommend *The Last Castle* starring *Robert Redford.*
One of my fave movie genres:SUBMARINES! In terms of tension and anxiety,, they cannot be beat! A few more of my faves I'd definitely recommend for future viewing HUNTER KILLER (2018) Gerard Butler and Gary Oldman. BLACK SEA (2014) Jude Law and Ben Mendhelsohn. K19:THE WIDOWMAKER (2002) Harrison Ford and Liam Neeson. PHANTOM (2013) Ed Harris and David Duchovny and of course THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER (1990) Sean Connery and Alec Baldwin. I recently read about modern nuclear subs and in terms of safety features, the author stated they would generally figure out what was safe and then make things 300% to 400% safer than required - even taking such precautions, being willing to get inside a metal tube for months at a time, with the awareness of what you are carrying, is beyond brave! 😵💫😵💫
Very good movie, I thaw thith in the theater. Hanz Zimmerth thcore thined. Aye?
As a former USN enlisted who has served under officers who were incompetent, egotistical and sadistic, I have to say both of these officers, CO & XO, are phenomenally terrible at their jobs. These two make every decision as if they are intent on making things as bad as possible.
If you want to see a good Denzel movie that is underrated, watch Devil in a Blue Dress. It also has Don Cheadle and Tom Sizemore in it...
Enlisted sub vet here . Only wished they left the dog out the movie.
Watch the Hunt for Red October or The Rock
Please do A DEVIL IN A BLUE DRESS and COURAGE UNDER FIRE.
Watch "Das Boot"!
Y’all Canadian?
I hope you guys watch Malcolm X. It doesn't get reacted to, but it's one of the best Denzel performances ever.. in my opinion it's his best and definitely deserved an Academy Award.
Watch Being John Malkovich!
