While I have had my Canon EOS M50 for months this tutorial finally has me out of the auto mode and feeling confident enough to experiment in different settings but more importantly with a decent enough understanding of how these settings affect my composure, and lighting. I am grateful and will continue to look in on your videos for more instruction and better my ability to enjoy my new camera. thanks !
I bought this camera two years ago about the time you did this video. This is helpful information thanks. I sure wish you could do double exposures with this thing. But you cannot.
I am an experienced photographer. Due to financial problems I had to sell al my expensive gear. I still had some bucks to buy the cheap m50 mark 2. Believe me, this camera makes the most beautiful pictures you can imagine.
You did a phenomenon tutorial, it's easy to understand and follow step by step with practicing right on my new M50 ii. Thank You so much for creating a simple lesson for beginner, i'm going to view all of your sections about photographer. Thank you again and again.
I just got my camera. I've never done photography before and was very intimidated by the large range of options it has. Your video was easy to understand and follow and gave me the confidence to jump in and start. Thanks so much for such an excellent tutorial!
Thank you for this wonderful tutorial. I love the way you show the same scene with different settings so that it’s very clear what effect each setting will have on the resulting photo. It’s everything I’ve always wanted in a tutorial and in such a small amount of time as well! My daughter is really wanting to get into night photography so we’ll be watching your other tutorials as well.
IMO, your video was the most helpful, and I watched several. Thank you for clearly explaining things so clearly! I'm really excited about my M-50, and the possibilities.
I just got my M50/MII and following your video with the camera next to me it was great. Besides, the way you explain things is quite easy for people whose mother tongue isn't english. I'll be following all your videos. Thank you so much. (Portugal)
Wow! Thank you for all this valuable information about the EOS M50 ii. I am excited to get started exploring this camera using your tutorial. Thank you for the clear presentation style and the careful choices you made as to what to show and what to leave out of this beginner tutorial.
This was wonderful and enjoyable in so many ways. You covered the material in a clear and concise way. Plus you related the setting to real world use. Thanks for taking the time to share this. I'm going to watch more of your videos now.
I'm a bit more than a beginner, but still, look at your video to get to know this cam. having years of experience with canon I just want to see if there are new things on the menu. Tips for beginners. buy with this cam a screen protector and an extra battery with it. Also, a Yongnuo YN-560 IV is an affordable flash for it. @Chris. I see you also looked at the photoshop topsecret DVD's Those were great to get better in PS. I liked them a lot.
Just bought m50 mark II for my masaimara trip to kenya With 50-200 lens I have zero knowledge of dslr Using just iphone for all need Your video is highly informative and help us to know basics of photography Thank you very much Kindly give me a guide how i can prepare my setting for wildlife images
thank you for this! It is really helpful as I feel you are really thinking about all types of levels and users. You are a very good teacher :) Subscribed!
Thanks Chris for a great explanatory video. I get my M50 mark II today and I can’t wait to try it out. You highlight the creative potential of TV. My first Canon camera was the AE-1 (35mm film) which had shutter priority only. Had a lot of fun, and took great photos, with that camera.
Man like Chris! This is a good video -thanks for the info. Getting mine in a couple of days and watching videos to prepare. This is the best one yet for me
Man you are amazing i have seen tons of videos no one like you explain everything about the camera as a new to camera(s) i have no clue how to perform an amazing settings or amazing shot now i can because of you man ❤❤ also you gain a sub mate 👍🏻👍🏻
Very nice video, things explained so I could understand in simple terms and examples. I recently got my M50 MII and will be bringing it Italy! I'll be using the kit lens and hope to get some great pics using your tips. Thank you
this was an excellent beginners intro for me....you are the number one for me of all the intros i have viewed... i subscribe. i will replay an replay and practice....thanks so very much
Man thank you very much for this so useful video, it was a crash course for me, I have done a camera course in past and its few years now. I recently purchased a camera again, and this video of yours is so helpful to refresh my camera knowledge, now I am so excited. Thanks man great content!
Depth of field is the area of an image that has "acceptable" sharpness. If you use a large aperture (f.ex f/2.0) a smaller area of the image will have acceptable sharpness (shallow DOF) and if you use a smaller aperture (f.ex f/22) a larger area of the image will have acceptable sharpness (large DOF). At 12:31 in the video it says that there is "no depth of field" but for that lens, at f/22 you actually have maximum DOF because almost all of the image has acceptable sharpness.
Wow, this is just what I needed. I didn't know i needed to format my card. I have been using my camera for a while now but only learnt about monochrome mode from your video. Thank you. What telephoto lens fo you suggest for this camera for wildlife photography. I am passionate about it, but my 55-200mm doesn't seem to get me as close as i would like to. I have a tripod and an EF mount.
What settings would you recommend for WDW Fireworks? I want some slow shutter speed to get the blur lights, but I want just enough exposure to still capture the Cinderella's castle.
Thank you for making this tutorial. I was wondering if you have any advice on how to shoot indoor swimming meets (ymca). What mode would be best and where would you start your settings at? I have both wide angle and zoom lenses.
Thanks, this tutorial taught me a tremendous amount of information that the manual does not cover. I want to use this camera to photograph my oil paintings. Could you tell me the best way to do do this? Thanks again for a very informative tutorial.
Use a tripod to line everthing up, use TV mode. Set ISO to 100 and then play with the shutter speeds until you get the correct exposure. Likely going to have to make sure light on subject is not harsh and or too bright. Soft light.
Absolutely new in DSLR/ mirrorless camera world.. looking to purchase M50-II. So is it a good choice in 2023, where rumours are that canon is winding up their M series or shall I go for new R100. However, I find RF lenses a bit costly than EF-M mount. please suggest.. thanks!
I’m thinking about to buy the Canon M50. I have a Canon Eos 650D but I find that one to heavy to carry with me on hikes. This summer I go for the first time to Canada (I’m from the Netherlands) and I was thinking of just taking pictures with my iPhone 12 mini. But I like to play with shutter times and know that I can’t do that with my iPhone. So can you tell if you think that the Canon M50 the best choice to buy is for me?
Thanks Chris great video learned a lot. Just bought M50 mark II. Now for whatever reason I can only take close up pictures with my original lens what settings do I need to adjust? I can only take advantage of other features when I attach my wide angle len.
Hi Chris. Loved your tutorial. Please give me your opinion on buying for travel/street photograpy: M50 with kit lens or a DSLR T7 with 22mm Canon lens? Cant afford M50´s plus prime lens.
Hi it’s really interesting and important information. I have a m50 . But the problem is I do not get nice pictures like you . I dnt know what the problem is.
There is a blue magnifying glass on the top right button. How to use this function? How to zoom the image on the monitor so that the focus can be set manually on some detail (say on the eye)?
Hi Chris, great tutorial. I could not find the information you had about the prime lenses that shoots at f2. Where is this information located??? All I saw on the bottom of your video were questions and reply. Thanks
Chris, thank you so much for this terrific instructional video. I like to shoot landscapes in RAW and tend to use AEB set at one stop over and one stop under exposed but when I power the camera OFF to save the battery and then power the camera ON again I have to reset my AEB settings. Is there any way to retain these settings?
I’ve just bought an M50 after four months research and 500 CZcams videos. That tip to enable touch shutter when using bulb mode was a gem. Top stuff.
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it!
I want to tell you that you made an EXELLENT video for beginners. Very clear and understandeble😊
Thank you for that❤
You're welcome 😊

You should be able to use both lens for these, but when you zoom in with lens, the aperture won't be as wide.

Hi Chris, great tutorial. I could not find the information you had about the prime lenses that shoots at f2. Where is this information located??? All I saw on the bottom of your video were questions and reply. Thanks
I just got this camera yesterday. When setting up initially, do you recommend changing the contrast, sharpness, and exposure at all right away?
Probably not right away, just learn one step at a time.

Once you play with exposure compensation how do you reset it back? Thanks! Great video
