      Serena has won 23 slams. Seles would never have won that many and probably at best 1 Wimbledon even without the stabbing. Since Serena is the GOAT (not Graf) no she would not have ever been the GOAT.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před 6 lety +18

      Nobody had won as many slams as Seles did as a teenager. She wasn't even at her peak yet and not even 20 years old when the stabbing happened. And if her career hadn't been interrupted by the stabbing, she wins more than one Wimbledon. If Conchita Martinez could win Wimbledon, and Arantxa Sanchez Vicario could push Steffi on grass, Monica definitely would have been able to win there.

      @ralphbourgeois5875 Před 6 lety +2

      Connolly won more slams than Seles did as a teenager and was more dominant, so your first comment is wrong. Seles lost her only Wimbledon final (at her peak) 6-2, 6-1, only once made it past the quarters of Wimbledon, and had numerous early losses to no names throughout her career. She would be lucky to win just 1 Wimbledon, never mind winning more. Your Martinez example means nothing, as by that logic if Bartoli wins Wimbledon of course Henin would have. Ooops.

      I'm a big Serena William and Novak Djokovic fan, nevertheless, I think Monica Seles was even greater than Federer, Laver, or Margaret C, Graff or Serena. Why? Because in addition of living in a sexist society, she had to endure a personal attack, blocking her success.
      You have to be the greatest to be violently stopped, because they knew she was going to continue winning titles. Serena and Venus dealed with sexism and racism, that's why both are greater than Graff in my view, but not greater than Seles.
      Besides, Slams being a teenager? That's unbelievable!

      You assume the worst of Seles because you're unfair as a Graf fans and Seles hater ..
      At the time of stabbing,
      - Seles had just won a convincing victory over Graf at the AO where the final set was a 6-2 drubbing of Graf.
      - She was on a roll winning 7 out of 8 slams she entered ...
      - She had not even reached her physical crescendo as all these occurred before her 20th birthday. Obviously she will only get stronger and more powerful ...
      - Seles had the same focus and determination as Graf, thats why she was able to beat Graf in 3 slam finals within 2.5 years ...... why would you assume she will never be able to improve on all aspects of her game including her footwork if without stabbing ?
      - Even after the stabbing .... when Seles came back to tennis, although she had weight issues from PTSD eating disorder due to the trauma of the stabbing and her dad's cancer, although she went 1-4 against Graf, if we look at the matches in terms of who won more games within a match, she still lead Graf by 3-2 (in 2 of Graf's wins, Seles actually won more games than Graf) .....
      What does that tell us ... ask yourself what Seles could have done to Graf if she did not have to deal with the PTSD eating disorder due to the stabbing....

      @Illya Kuryakin Not necessarily. And keep in mind, Seles was 19 years old, and she, like everyone else, thought a tennis court would be a safe space. It wasn't just the stabbing injury, which was just a flesh wound, but it was the fear that the tennis court was no longer safe. That took longer to get over. And when she came back, you could tell she was different. She was more serious and not as care-free.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před 4 lety +1

      @Illya Kuryakin Because a tennis court is the last place you expect to be attacked. It's a place where you're doing what you love to do, and then the sacred place is violated. This wasn't a back alley mugging or a robbery at a liquor store.

    • @pomerlain8924
      @pomerlain8924 Před 4 lety +1

      @Illya Kuryakin Not all, but some. Trauma effects people differently. Some people, after a violent crime, are afraid to leave their homes. Some people who are attacked on a subway, will never ride the subway again, and choose to ride cabs instead. Some people want to avoid hospitals at all costs if they saw a loved one go into a hospital and then die. People who survived a fire or sinking on a ship or oil platform choose to never go out to sea again. Trauma affects everybody differently. And Monica being off tour for two years because of the attack is not abnormal.

      @pomerlain8924 Před 4 lety +3

      @Illya Kuryakin Nobody is saying that it is Steffi's fault. But the fact of the matter is that she did benefit from Monica's stabbing, as nobody else on tour was pushing Steffi, consistently.

      @pomerlain8924 Před 4 lety +1

      @Illya Kuryakin Her binge eating was AFTER the stabbing. Not before. And name another all-time great player that benefited from their main rival being attacked? Never happened with Martina and Chrissie. Never happened with Pete and Andre. Never happened with Roger and Rafa or Novak.
      Steffi is the only one mentioned because this is the only time something like this has happened. And any tennis player or tennis expert from any country can see that Monica was the only player that was an equal to Steffi, and had the stabbing not happened, Steffi and Monica's slam counts are much different. Probably even with Monica having more than 9 and Steffi having less than 22. They would have been trading GS much like Chrissie and Martina did, and the Big Three are currently doing now.

    Unfortunately, we never even got to see a peak Seles at just age 19 when she was stabbed. She would have won many, many more Grand Slams. She was only getting fitter, stronger, faster, and adding more to her game when she was stabbed. She looked better every time I saw her play, so there is no reason to think she would have all of a sudden suffered a career threatening injury right before the French Open, or burnt out, as all Graf fans keep saying, especially at just 19 when she had won 7 of the last 8 Grand Slams she competed in. Why would she just suddenly lose total interest when she was racking up those types of records at just age 19 like all Graf fans believe? Most of which are probably from Germany where they all idolize Hitler, Satin, and the man who stabbed Seles. Yes, they believe they come from a country with a really glorious past. They are walking shit people, and who even gives an f about the crazy things they say?

    • @reparata11

      I read in the paper, back then, that the German people were all cheering when one of their own stabbed Seles. And of course, they ruled against Monica Seles in their court system. I'm from the US and I hear the Germans are always calling Americans "Those dirty Americans." Obviously, they are too dumb to know about their own past, or are just Hitler worshippers.

    • @markuse3472
      @markuse3472 Před 4 lety

      It's not Steffi Graf fans, but logic ans reason, intellect, that says it's possible. If you don't have a window into Seles's brain then you can never know what was happening in her mind. What we DO know is this. She is human not a god and therefore CAN succumb to mental breakdown. What: do you know why many teens commit suicide, are addicted to smoking, alcohol, sex, social media, hate, bigotry, racism, violence and more? But for you, it's impossible because evidence, science, is like hearsay and rumors. Secondly, it DOES happen to many athletes from all sports that they are Good for a few years but then they are not as good anymore, although effective, and Seles appears to have been one of those. As I've said, it happens to many athletes and Seles is not different. Thirdly, I love how feeble Seles fans exaggerate with "total interest" and such terms, because I don't think I've ever read that from any other tennis players' comments. Fourthly, Seles STILL had what she did before that paper cut (yes I exaggerate but it is relative) because she won one more slam and various other titles. She just wasn't as good anymore JUST LIKE OTHER ATHLETES from other sports come to some sort of curve on the road. Lastly, her competition figured her out, her weakness: her always double-handing everything, and they went for it. It's no bodies fault because this is a sport, a competitive sport. But you wont see to this because the truth, reason, are not your strengths.

      Woah-woah woah! Jordan is my favorite basketball player (I like The Bulls), and for me he is the best player of all time, but as a competitor? Intellect disagrees. There just can't be ONE best competitor. There are many, many equally competitors at the top, not just one. In that, Seles can't also be, according to that guy, the best tennis competitor of all time. Its not possible. There can't also be One best guitarist in popular music of all time: there are a handful equally at the top. More so, just because Monica introduced that
      double-handed fore-and-back-hand with power, doesn't mean it made her untouchable as they make it seem in this video. Its a very, very, very simple tactic: she was trained and coached to do so. There is nothing
      genius about it. They say heavy metal would not have come but for Black Sabbath, but they are wrong. It was coming no matter what. Other bands had already sampled the sound. It was bound to take root and grow. Its the same with athletes and all sports: things grow. Its not genius. Genius is something hardly anyone else can do, and we know many others are now doing it. An introduction is a basic idea and that is it. I love Monica, but its evident pop culture stupidity runs through most peoples' minds regardless of their profession and its evident here (Chris Clarey, an obvious prejudice man). Richard Evens, the same. Fact
      also is that many seem great but end up only being at the top a short time. But no one pays mind to them. Monicas time was up. Players, including Steffi, figured out her weakness. A huge weakness. It wasn't
      Hingis' nor Capriatis and sure as many foods are toxicated, not Steffis. But Monicas time was simply up. Its obvious she still had what it took after the stabbing, very obvious, but she was not meant to have risen
      much more. The stab on Monica was so minute its ridiculous thinking that was what made her physically less of a player after 1993. Completely absurd. The other players simply figured her out, her weakness (if I
      have to explain then her fans are surely closeted people). Steffi 6-4 in her favor, pre-1993, H2H. M J's father was murdered yet, he came back and led the Bulls to 3 more titles. Many, many other athletes have
      suffered more serious physical injuries and mental hardships than Seles, yet, they came back and regained their top-semi-top status. The announcer that said Seles was beating Steffi only shows how stupid
      professional people (he) can be. People are overall educated with pop culture (biases and prejudices) stupidity more and more, and real reason and intellect are frowned upon. Steffi showed she was the best, and she still is the GOAT. The Williams' are cheats, not technically, but virtually and reasonably. Their dad taught and instructed them to Scream and Howl when playing, ONLY TO ANNOY and FRUSTRATE their competition. It worked. Many say "well, Monica did, too"--NO: Monica obviously Grunted, sometimes loud, but they surely weren't screams. They also took PEDS/Roids and that is obvious.

Connolly especialy since Connolly is a what if case just like Seles but she was much more dominant aged 16-19 than Seles was, against tougher competition too. Seles faced only Graf and granny WAY past her prime Navratilova, and Graf was even in a slump most of that time. Connolly faced peak Hart, peak Bueno, prime Fry, Gibson, and Du Pont, a far deeper and stronger field.

      Wow, an echo chamber of Graf superfans ....
      even if we do not talk about the stabbing benefitting Graf by x number of slams, MARTINA NAVRATILOVA had so many all time records that Graf cannot match that its ridiculous to put her below Graf.
      Navra's 6-straight slams (most in history), 167 singles titles (60 more than Graf), longest winning streak in tennis history, highest winning percentage ever in a year, the only player ever who lost only once after playing more than 80s matches in a year (she's the closest anyone has ever come to zero loss after playing more than 80 matches in a year), won many of her singles slams while winning the doubles events too, had to do everything while dealing with another 18-slam GOAT Evert.
      Graf basically only have 1 thing better than Navra, her 22 singles slams, even this is due to her enjoying free slams after Seles got stabbed.
      So, let me ask you all here, how can Graf be greater than Navra when Navra has so many records that Graf couldn't break even when those records were right in front of her as a target ?

    I love Monica and I think she played amazing at her peak, but boy, to say that the stab changed the course of women´s tennis, that made Graf return to the top and that she would have won tons of slams without it is being far too exagerated and too biased, it sounds nice and obsequious to Monica but it´s far from being a reasonable analysis. Sure, Seles was at the peak when she was stabbed but "what if" the aggressor just saved Monica from a natural slump from which she would not come back anyway? after all, the injury healed in a couple of weeks and Monica by herself decided not to come back for years. The tour was not Monica alone, Steffi was working very hard to get back to the top and it´s not like Steffi could not beat Monica or Monica was easily beating Graf, she needed to play 100% and more to do that. Besides, no player has so many consecutive years at the top, not Steffi, not Serena, not Nadal or Djokovic. Monica´s slump was a question of months if not weeks, and she also had her personal problems, it´s not guaranteed she would have continued dominating as she did. Who would have said in early 1999 that Hingis would never win another slam? or that Venus in 2002 would only win 3 more and her sister would be the one with much more slams? or that Henin would retire in early 2008 at her age and at the top? Again, I love Monica and the attack to her was horrendous and should never happen again, but it doesn´t change the fact that she could have come back soon and she didn´t and that she had other familiar and eating problems too and could never win as much as she did in her teen years.

      suffered more serious physical injuries and mental hardships than Seles,
      yet, they came back and regained their top-semi-top status. The
      announcer that said Seles was beating Steffi only shows how stupid
      professional people (he) can be. People are overall educated with pop
      culture (biases and prejudices) stupidity more and more, and real reason
      and intellect are frowned upon. Steffi showed she was the best, and she
      still is the GOAT. The Williams' are cheats, not technically, but
      virtually and reasonably. Their dad taught and instructed them to Scream
      and Howl when playing, ONLY TO ANNOY and FRUSTRATE their competition.
      It worked. Many say "well, Monica did, too"--NO: Monica obviously
      Grunted, sometimes loud, but they surely weren't screams. They also took
      PEDS/Roids and that is obvious.

      Why didn't Steffi figure out her game at the Australian Open in 1993? Sure enough that was enough time to figure out Seles' game. Yet that match ended with Monica slamming Steffi's weak 2nd serve for a winner lol.

      Not just at the AO in 1993 but before, too. I am giving you more space to work with. I am not in this as a Steffi or any one else's fan, I am here, as I am in everything I do and think, to display reason and intellect, since its obvious you people don't invest in such matters but instead in pop culture (prejudice, biases, bigotry). I do research. I study these matters of athletes. You people don't or else wisdom would show in your comments.
      Taking a look at all sports, all athletes, all circumstances and dynamics, its easy to see and know many times time must pass by for some to really grasp what they can change, for others its faster to see and work on their game and expose another's weakness. Its life. Its fact. Its science.
      Your short statements displays lack of intellect, much like a hateful spoiled person yelling at others since they (you) can't talk in peace and reason. "lol"? Really? In a court room, you would be kicked-out on your ass for using such feeble terms in an area where logic and intellect top everything else.
      As for you "Steffis weak second serve..." Well, I agree, it was weak, and I agree because we have evidence. But, Steffi holds a 6-4 overall winning record over Monica, whom I love (unlike you prejudiced idiots who can't tolerate others selectively).
      Science, evidence, obviously shows Monica was not meant to have lasted at the top/near top for too long. This is reasonable because we see many other players who last for 1, 4, 10, whatever years at the top but are brought to an end in whatever amount of time (as I just mentioned). Seles was figured out and for me its that obvious.

      @@markuse3472 My comment wasn't directed to you but to the OP. I didn't read your rant, you need to learn to edit your thoughts and be more concise. I'm laughing at you out loud by the way.

    Selestials who make up 0.001% of the human population, but the craziest 0.001% by far, call her the best ever. The rest of the world and real experts call her the 19th best player ever, sounds more about right.

    Woah-woah woah! Jordan is my favorite basketball player (I like The Bulls), and for me he is the best player of all time, but as a
    competitor? Intellect disagrees. There just can't be ONE best competitor. There are many, many equally competitors at the top, not just one. In that, Seles can't also be, according to that guy, the best tennis competitor of all time. Its not possible. There can't also be One best guitarist in popular music of all time: there are a handful equally at the top. More so, just because Monica introduced that double-handed fore-and-back-hand with power, doesn't mean it made her untouchable as they make it seem in this video. Its a very, very, very simple tactic: she was trained and coached to do so. There is nothing genius about it. They say heavy metal would not have come but for Black Sabbath, but they are wrong. It was coming no matter what. Other bands
    had already sampled the sound. Fact also is that many seem great but end up only being at the top a short time. But no one pays mind to them. Monicas time was up. Players, including Steffi, figured out her weakness. A huge weakness. It wasn't Hingis' nor Capriatis and sure as many foods are toxicated, not Steffis. But Monicas time was simply up. Its obvious she still had what it took after the stabbing, very obvious, but she was not meant to have risen much more. The stab on Monica was so minute its ridiculous thinking that was what made her physically less of a player after 1993. Completely absurd. The other players simply figured her out, her weakness (if I have to explain then her fans are surely closeted people). Steffi 6-4 in her favor, pre-1993, H2H. M J's father was murdered yet, he came back
    and led the Bulls to 3 more titles. Many, many other athletes have suffered more serious physical injuries and mental hardships than Seles, yet, they came back and regained their top-semi-top status.
