- Here's some long distance flying (at least for a toy drone), made possible by external antenna mod and a wifi extender.
There was also some tailwind: usually the Visuo flies at about 20km/h, but here the average speed was closer to 30 km/h
For this flight the drone chose wrong white balance, and the image was too green. I corrected most of it, but the colors are still awful.
- How to change the wifi antenna:
Look at this guys video : • Video
You open the craft, unscrew the top circuit board to get to wifi antenna. At 7:30 in that video you can see the golden wifi antenna connector that you need to unplug, and then replug the new connector. The guy in the video just pops it out, but it took me about 30 minutes to pry it out.. and another 10 to plug in the wifi antenna connector cable.

Using it is easy: connect the repeater to usb power. Turn on your drone. Type usbwifi.cn on your phone browser, and choose the drone network from the network list. Then the repeater disconnects automatically, and creates a new network that has the same name as the drone network, but "_plus" added the the end. Connect to that. Done.
Note that if you first turn on your drone and then the extender, you phone might automatically connect to the drone and not to the extender. So turn the extender on first.

Question? My drone got FPV 5GHZ and my transmitter is a 2.4ghz, so i should buy a 2 frenquency repeater and also make antenna mod on drone by adding 5g and 2.4 antenna, is that correct! Pretty new in drone's world! Thanks for your comments. Cheers

This is amazing! I would like to see a live FPV feed of this or a flight like this...Did you experience much drop out or break up of the video at 1.5 to 2 kms? And where was the repeater located for this flight?
There was a few about 1 second freezes at 500m-1km area, but not after that. The repeater was clamped to the staircase railing. You can see it on my right side at the beginning.

Still amazed by the range on your drone! I need to do this on mine, as mine falls out of the sky at 80m!! I have an old wifi router which works on 2.4ghz, does the drone use 2.4ghz for the camera fpv part of the control, when you use the phone to control? If so I can get on with this mod :)

Just remember.. This is not a brushless quad so any wind over 8mph and your flight might end up a whole lot different with nothing (GPS)(strong motors) to keep it on track...lol. Great video bud!

Great video bro... You should get the "Battle Shark" version of the 809. it's the XS809S now. The battery is now 18 minutes Flight time on the Battle shark.
very cool (not the snow), but honestly I'm more curious about stock transmitter and quad antenna mods both control and wifi transmission, like: 6dbi on transmitter and exposed control antenna on quad, and 4dbi on quad for its broadcast. rather have fpv signal breaking up before loss of control occurs. 2km is neat, also a one way trip lol.
Awesome video, I think if you add the same antenna to the controller you can add a rf extender and use the controller for the same distance and not only the wifi

The drones' WiFi antennas are for camera control and can the Wi-Fi extender be used for drones?
Is the transmission distance of the Wi-Fi extender very short, can the dron be controlled up to 1km?

Range of a wifi extender WITHOUT any antenna mod is about 0.6km. With antenna mod you get at 2km+ like you see in this video.

Wifi antenna is the one with the small golden connector. It's on the bottom circuit board. No need for soldering.
I have ordered Eachine E58, better camera and I want to do the same, I saw a video diy rc guy that made mod of antenna like You and also the other antenna in drone that response for wifi remote controller and also made conversion with router antenna in controller itself. Do You think its worth to do that? I also ordered wifi repeater of xiaomi.
Based on my experience you should modify the drone wifi antenna only and use a wifi extender with a phone and forget the physical controller. I changed the controller antenna and got no further than with the stock antenna. I think this is because the wifi video and the controller use the same 2.4ghz frequency, and they interfere with each other.
Jarkko J That is very good thought , have a nice day! Only thing I try to do will be extending controller antena with router 5dbi external one. Logic is good, use controller when we fly in range of our eye and fly with phone when we need some further shots :) thanks!

Repeater is not chargeable, it needs usb power. It can also be powered from phone usb. I think is only does 2.4ghz.
And the FPV distance?

Pretty much yes. You can get pretty far just by making a hole for the original antenna on top of the copter too. The new wifi antenna on the drone is +3db one, I don't know about those repeater antennas. And yes, you have to use the phone app with the repeater. Modding the controller is possible too, but I haven't done anything with it.

You use web browser to configure the extender, then once connected, fly normally with the xsw ufo app. You only configure the extender once, after that it connects automatically.

Very smart. Can you make a video of ur set up. Like the app you used for the tracking and the camera etc......i lost my drone... i flew it very high in the air and lost control and the drone kept going higher and higher and it vanished :( now im left with the controller lol.

How you get rid of the jello effect, any mods done on camera too ??
Fly on dark, overcast days. This prolongs the shutter speed and reduces jello. Or you could balance the props.

Info: is the drone connected in 2.4Ghz both to the remote control and to the mobile phone?
It has 2 antennas inside , one for mobile on the "camera" pcb and one for controller on main pcb , you just need to upgrade this one on camera pcb and it's easy because there is connector so no soldering

Dude....wow--that is a long ways away. Did you lose signal once below a certain altitude just before landing? If not, your setup could be used as a courier. Sure an extra 3.5gms wouldn't be too much for it but 2km would be. So serviceable delivery of 1km...lol
Yes, I did cut out. No image transmission from the ground level unless there is a clear line of sight. Total flight distance from a battery is about 2.8 kilometers, so do half of that and come back.

I used mi wifi repeater 2 and 3dbi antenna on drone and 5 dbi antenna on controller and getting 500 meters without any interference or lags on fpv

I don't know. I don't really have anything more to say about Visuo drone, and the stuff I shoot with Mavic Air nowadays is just.. well, boring.
wifi signal analyzer app..wow..u dont need the drone already have gps..just connect with that app..thank dude..
Now you can work on modifying the batteries to get a longer flight time around 20 minutes so u can actually take advantage of the extra reach without having to go on a hike to find it everytime
Already doing that.. There's also a new version called XS809S which has double the battery capacity.
But 809S has super short wifi range so that defeats the purpose

I know.. but if you want to fly over inhabited areas you kinda have to bend that rule a bit. I just try to avoid flying over people as much as I can.
