Still love this vid, classic, and an actual monumental achivemant in the drone hobby. Just wish the manufacturers could have implemented the use of this repeaters technology into new products somehow, like having it in the radio. ☮️
That wifi repeater works great. I did a test flight with my Hubsan H216A and tripled my distance with a heavy wind and lots of large trees. I will be flying it with the repeater from now on.
did you made any mods to the quadcopter itself? or only used repeater?
no I just started running it through the repeater. I am using the Xiaomi WIFI Repeater 2.
I’m still waiting for mine to come in. I should mod it right away when I get it. How cool!
Good flight review Pete, I am amazed at how far this quad went. I have the original one that came out a while ago, so all I have to do is pull the antenna out to increase the range.

I just got mine and I couldn't fly very far at all in my yard before it would lose signal and ship land. I did like you did n it made a huge difference. I'd like to lean to put in a larger antenna .

Excellent video showing the capabilities of a toy drone and a wifi repeater...best one I can find on youtube using this model...my only question is...whats that extra sleeve on the wifi antenna? another piece of heatshrink tubing? Hello RC Escape...what a great flyer with the wifi extender and antenna mod!. Im just wondering if you have made reviews on the latest visuo QC, the XS812 5Ghz wifi FPV with GPS? It would be an excellent long range flyer with the 5Ghz/2.4Ghz dual wifi extender similar in shape with the one you are using which is already in the market and plus the antenna mod....if this review reached a kilometer range...Im sure the XS812 can reach twice the range using the 5Ghz extender! Can't wait!

I made my own parabolic dish i printed a paper template from the net, got some foil and cardboard and a little glue and it works great.

How much distance increase can you get with just pulling out the antennas without the repeater?
Shouldn't the quad copter have 2 antennas? One for FPV transmit and another for control input receive?

I have watched this vid 2 or 3 more times & you have made my day, I always have one of these in my van, you would not believe the crap I have put up with from the DJI snobs , the BEST drone a person has is the one they have WITH them, that's my thoughts anyways

Great video! I've just bought one myself. Was just wondering if you had the antenna coming out through the bottom and running lengthways along the quad, would it be just as effective? Cheers, Adam
You can do it that way too but keep in mind the radiation peak is at 90° to the dipole antenna so by running it length wise the signal will be strong when the quad is facing you sideways and if it is going away or coming towards you, the signal is at its weakest points. That is exactly how it is inside the quad so by standing it up, the nullified areas or the weak areas are now up and below the quad so the signal strength is better all around the quad.

Just dive right in it is really simple to do the mod. There are also many videos on how to connect the repeater to the drone :)

Why u didn't try to mod the controller of the drone? You can make a hole and put the antenna out on the controller. Maybe is a little better.
Is there any idea to use remote in place of mobile to operate on wifi.
It's much harder to fly it with the app vs the transmitter. Fyi , if you're using the app to fly with your phone, Fly it high in a very open area

To continue your broken train of thought...Yes I think if he modded the transmitter as well it would have worked better with the wifi fpv (more range) and I also have an idea of putting a amplifier on a modded transmitter to see what that would do...

You can fly two or more but bind one at a time with the remote. I'm not sure about using phone app.

does the XS809S can carry a gopro 4? is it strong enough? I saw some videos of the XS809HW with a mounted gopro and it handles it quite good.

The only thing you need is the repeater. Check some videos on how to use the repeater.

Hello Pauline, I got one aswell (XS809S )and to be honest it is a huge disappointment!. It cant handle the simplest wind breath. It cant be used outdoor at all. I regret not getting the H502E

I do not have a Wi-Fi drone so I am slightly confused. Is the Wi-Fi repeater repeating Wi-Fi from your phone or the Drone or both?
Normally, you connect your phone to the drone's wifi network but with the repeater, you connect the drone to the repeater and your phone to the repeater.
Actually you connect the WiFi repeater to the drone and your phone to the WiFi repeater....the repeater is like the middle man and has much more power and better antenna than any cellphone or tablet, thus it works for longer range...this only works for WiFi drones because the repeaters only work with WiFi signals...

The Xiaomi Mi is a 2.4ghz repeater so it will not work.
