    Anyone who regularly handles authentic vintage revolvers from the late 1800s-1930s knows that the pins can be sensitive, since they were all hand cut, human error left room for the pins to not always be the same dimensions, and if all 6 bullets are in the barrel, a single flick of the gun can cause the pin to collapse and fire,
    Maybe the props guy was new to vintage revolver stunts and didn't know you need to remove the 6th bullet from the chamber at all times so it can't fire on accident

You can sort of understand how with how many shoots they do they don't shake every bullet or whatever, but the live ammo should not have been there. I'm doubtful actors would commonly unload the gun check all the rounds and reload it, seems impractical and defeats the reason you have the specialists there. An actor probably can't make a valid decision to whether a bullet is real or not, valid from the perspective they aren't qualified.

    Baldwin, an actor like all actors on a movie set, are often handed guns, hand grenades, rifles, etc. that are used as PROPS on movie sets every day. The gun in question was the responsibility of the Prop Dept., the employees working in that regard, and the manager, ensuring a gun was safe for use and loaded with blanks. Someone is responsible for loading a prop with live ammo and should be the focus, and those person(s) responsible for the prop before it was handed to Baldwin are responsible for such a horrific death.

      That's wrong. Gun safety is the responsibility of EVERYONE who handles a gun and not just one person. If Baldwin didn't know basic facts like how to check first if a gun is loaded WHENEVER he is handed one, he should never have been holding one much less pulling the trigger.

    • @alzon5712
      @alzon5712 Před rokem +1

      @@EricTheYounger Well I understand it was loaded with cold theatrical rounds, which look like live rounds just they don't have gun power in. The question is are they expert enough to make a decision on the type of ammo is and isn't safe to point towards someone, and the answer is almost certainly no. Normal ammunition is presumed to be live and you never point it at someone. But the point is extra care is needed due to the higher risk of incidence and I think that either everyone needs specialist training beyond the basic training they would have received to operate firearms or it is delegated to a trained professional, firearms expert... generally movies are using the latter. Assuming theses points, I bet if you mixed live ammo into any movie set you could easily see this happen again. There needs to be more procedures. At the end of the day it can't be on one person, all rounds should be checked before took on set, then again on set and every round inspected individually before being loaded and all should happen by a professional firearms expert and not an actor, they aren't qualified to make those decisions as to which ammo is safe to use and even after checking could still accidently load a live round.

      As an actor myself I can tell you that we as actors play pretend. Nothing you see in movies are real. Actors are never actually doing what you see on screen. He didn’t check the gun because he probably doesn’t know how to. I’ve never shot a gun in my life, but I’ve used plenty of prop guns on set. It’s not my job to know how to use it, it’s my job to pretend I do. The production has (or is supposed to have) trained professionals on set who know all the ins and outs of weaponry. They are the ones who are suppose to prep, clear, maintain the gun during shooting NOT an actor. So If a gun goes off during a take killing someone, it’s NEVER an actors fault. Period. The production & props people failed to do their jobs properly. The only way Alec would be culpable is if he was a producer on the film. Some of the blame starts at the top with producers, AD’s, production managers, etc. who’s job is to maintain a safe work environment. And that includes hiring qualified people to do the more serious jobs. Alec is just getting a lot of flack bcuz he’s a big A-list celebrity, but if a non-famous actor was in his place, I can guarantee you he wouldn’t be the least bit culpable for a gun malfunctioning.

    I’m sick of people commenting on how Alec is absolved of guilt because he is only an actor, not the weapons expert. Let’s say that I have a stun gun, designated as a “non-lethal weapon”. As the purchaser of the weapon, it’s not my job to make sure it’s non-lethal. But if I zap someone endlessly until their body shuts down from the stress, I’m not absolved of the guilt because the factory declared it a non-lethal weapon.

    • @realgregpumpo
      @realgregpumpo Před 2 lety +5

      Here’s the thing, he didn’t purchase the weapon, nor did he (or anyone else on set) think that the gun was even real. It was supposed to be a cold prop gun. There is a difference between a non-lethal weapon and a prop weapon. One works but won’t kill you, one doesn’t work. Why does everyone blame him instead of the armorer who gave him the live loaded weapon? Don’t even say he was supposed to check it first. I think everybody in his position would assume a gun being handed to you on a movie set would be a prop. This is the armorer’s fault.

    • @bigbulk688
      @bigbulk688 Před 2 lety +2

      You just answered your question. You are zapping someone 'endlessly until their body shut down'. That is a weapon irrespective of how it was labeled by the company. You could do that with a lamp, and that lamp would be considered the 'weapon'. The charges are voluntary manslaughter.
      Alternatively, you buy a stun gun, discharge it once-twice, realize that the other person is hurt and stop. If the person dies due to mislabeled 'weapon' or due to a malfunction of the weapon, the weapon manufacturer is responsible and you go free. And lastly, you realize that person is hurt but still continue a few more rounds and the person dies, you can be in for involuntary manslaughter. Circumstances being, you were not intending to kill the person, but you were handling something potentially dangerous and continued to wield it despite visible distress.

    • @bigbulk688
      @bigbulk688 Před 2 lety +1

      @@thedarkninja2000 Involuntary manslaughter still. But if someone 'authorized' let's say a gun instructor gives you a weapon assuring you that it's got blanks and you are an actor on stage and accidentally fire the gun and someone in the audience is killed. You walk away. You are a teen and not able to grasp the differences i gather. Baldwin may go down to an extent as exec producer. But legally he's safe as an actor. In any case, he seems to have taken a completely conspiratorial stance on it ATM, completely denying his previous version that he fired the gun. So let's see how it plays out.

    • @thedarkninja2000
      @thedarkninja2000 Před 2 lety +1

      @@bigbulk688 All firearms (any gun capable of gunpowder discharge, either with bullets or blanks) is subject to the rules of basic gun safety, the first of which is to treat every gun like it’s loaded. Second, is to never aim a firearm at something you aren’t willing to destroy. I wouldn’t label these as common sense, since not everyone would know this, but anyone with a minor amount of firearms training definitely would know this. Again, this isn’t referring to prop guns (objects that look like guns, but aren’t capable of firing anything), this is referring to firearms. That’s also why, legally speaking, anyone on a film set is allowed to inspect the firearm, from the directors, all the way down to the personal assistants making the coffee runs.
