  • Tom Brady is beginning his quest for his eighth Super Bowl ring tonight, but his legacy as an all-time NFL legend is already cemented and now looks to be viewed as one of the greatest athletes of all time. Even when Brady was still chasing Joe Montana’s Super Bowl total in 2013, TB12 told Julian Edelman quote: 'I ain’t going for Montana. I’m going for Jordan.' Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe debate whether Brady is better than Michael Jordan.

    It’s pretty interesting how 7-game playoffs vs 1-game playoffs is used by both sides to say one is harder. In 7-game series you can afford to lose a game so you have some room for errors, but in a 1-game series you can also catch a team on an off night or luck into a win.

    • @rumham7631
      @rumham7631 Před 2 lety +5

      The reality of the situation is that it just is not possible to make a fair comparison between the two. The sports are too different to make an accurate, fair comparison. They are both incredible talents within their own sport. If we're asking who is more athletic, obviously Jordan. If we're asking who has more impressive accomplishments, probably Brady. Who is a more gifted individual player? Probably Jordan. Who is better at finding and utilizing their teammates strengths? Brady.
      The comparison just doesn't work well because football teams have more than twice as many players as a basketball team, Quarterback is basically the only position that can drastically influence a football team, and even then you still have to have good receivers/linemen. In basketball you can have dogshit teammates and still shine as an individual(Westbrook, Harden etc.)

      Football in itself is more physical than basketball. 80s 90s basketball was physical but not even close to how football is. In football it’s legal to run full speed and hit somebody as long as it’s not helmet to helmet.

      I agree. And they have made football to where you can hardly touch the QB. Brady can probably play until 50 with these rules today. Also, no football player can ever be called the greatest of all sports because individual players don't have as much impact. They play half the game at the most. It's the ultimate team sport.

    • @worldtree2027

      That only works if everybody’s competition is equal. In basketball you’re competing directly against the opposition on both ends. It’s like 50s players vs current ones, the difference between the best and worst QB, RB, and TE was a much larger gap than it is in 2021. Does that mean 50s players are greater than current NFL players Bc they’re far more superior to peers? No, in this case it means the competition is weaker. And Michael Jordan in basketball is probably close to consensus and other options are Top 25 team sports athletes to ever exist. In football maybe 2-3 of them can actually make a Top 25 team sport athlete list because most slots will go to players of different sports with more control and freedom to impact the game. Yes but at the same time. You also can’t luck out in a 7 game series like basketball. A player gets hot for a game could always happen but because of the series format it’s a war of attrition how long can you sustain that? How well can you bounce back? How well can you counter schemes that get more specific over the course of a long series. It’s harder to beat the same team multiple times than once because these athletes have their pride okay you beat me once I’m not letting you walk over me tho. That’s the mindset for anyone in general. I don’t think single game or 7 is inherently better than the other method but I don’t think we should use the logic that it’s harder to win in football because of the number of games. I think the position argument is valid because qb is tough but the amount of games shouldn’t be a deciding factor
