  • Former Chicago Bull Toni Kukoč was asked about what it would be like if his former teammate Michael Jordan got to play with Shaquille O’Neal, and he was pretty blunt in his response: 'best lineup ever assembled.' Kukoč continued to tell Bally Sports quote 'It wouldn’t even matter who brings the ball up. There’s so much firepower there that I don’t think that there would be any team that would compete with them.' Hear whether Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe agree with Kukoč and believe that a MJ-Shaq combo is the best line-up ever.

what you're not saying is the fear that Shaq encountered when Kobe was getting better and better. it's no coincidence that Shaq really started having problems with Kobe when Lakers fans started yelling mvp! during Kobe's free throws versus when they used to yell that for Shaq. people don't wanna tell the truth. Shaq was jealous of Kobe. I followed them both closely throughout their careers pre Shaq-leaving LA. I was a Shaq fan way before I became a bonafide Kobe fan but his laziness and much less drive for greatness, exposed by Kobe, turned me completely off. Shaq would have been jealous of MJ as he was jealous of Kobe. why? Shaq knows he's a physically gifted person but also knows he isn't really a great competitor. this bothers anyone that becomes famous and "looked at" as the best player in the NBA YET seeing true greatness of a Kobe or a MJ and knowing that he truly wasn't on their level. real talk. Shaq's numbers and ability to dunk over many isn't what I'm referring to. those are physical abilities he was given. it's his drive, integrity wise that i am referring to. this is exactly why Shaq would come to camp out of shape for MOST OF HIS CAREER. MJ and Shaq would have bumped heads so many times because of that. Shaq was more concerned about being adored than he was about truly being great. the western conference was so tough those years. the eastern champs were actually a first round matchup in the west. the Sacramento kings highest concern wasn't about Shaq. it was about Kobe. the matchups against the spurs as spoken about by Skip Bayless is very funny to me. it wasn't Shaq that caused the most problems. it was Kobe, who was called the San Antonio killer during those days. in fact, the spurs held Shaq to his lowest scoring average in the playoffs. it was Kobe that would turn on a switch in the 4th and finish off the Spurs. so bruh..yes Shaq's ego was super inflated and he would still have been the same insecure child while playing with MJ.

Which it wouldn't be because Shaq would clear out and move back to the basket only if needed. Second..those games they played together was with the young Shaq..the leaner Shaq the used to run the floor and COULD run the floor quickly. Shaq and MJ out on the break..it would be a pick your poison. No one could stop Shaq we he decided..all that would do is leave MJ open for easy buckets. The only thing I’ve ever seen from Shaq about signing with the Bulls was when he was talking about KD joining up with the warriors and saying that if he had known you could form super teams he would be just joined up with MJ. But he’s just being dramatic to make his point. When Shaq went to LA he was locked in on the money. He was all set to stay in Orlando until they didn’t want to give him the deal he wanted and once the Lakers told him they had a $120M contract for him he signed on. He wasn’t hunting for the ideal place where he’d win rings he was hunting for the contract and Hollywood. He spent his first three years in LA getting smoked by the eventual western conference champions (Jazz 2x then Spurs) before they had their three peat. And then he left town because the lakers wouldn’t give him the money he wanted. Shaq talks about how much he cared about winning a lot for a dude who made all his moves focused on getting the most money and refusing to sacrifice to make the team better. The last two seasons in LA could’ve easily been more rings if Shaq had actually cared enough to get in shape. And once they traded him to the Heat he dropped 40 pounds that they’d been asking him to lose. You didn’t see him taking any pay cuts to win if you look back.

Just imagine that with Shaq and Jordan it would be looking like the 2000s trail blazers gang. He didn't knock Mike once in this segment, not even close. He simply spoke on the insanely powerful, dominate and ruthless personalities that both Mike and Shaq had and how putting them together would likely be an issue. And given my own experience, anyone who has actually experience in physical or mental competition and toughness, the way even Shaq and Kobe were at each other's throats, the way Mike was used to being the Juggernaut on his team etc Shannons points are extremely valid and worth thought and discussion. Both Shannon and Skip were right because Mike DEFINITELY would have to change how he talked to Shaq, couldn't just put his hands on him etc like he did others and it's true that he would either have to change his ways or he may just refuse all together. Mike was Captain, King and Commander at all times and if Shaq was willing to punch Mike's head off for talking to him in a certain way then that obviously wouldn't work for the team. As Skip said, IF they could make it work, IF the respect could be found and differences worked out then absolutely and unquestionably those two would destroyed any and all opposition in their path. I agree with that 100% and think that it'd be a rough start for both players to adjust to such a strong and dominate force on the same team, but I believe that once they play together enough and especially after being in practice together and learning each other, that they would blend together, gain that mutual respect and form a hellish duo to which no one has ever seen 💯
