Everyone responded to your emails? For me it has been 95% radio silence, maybe 5% "no" responses, none interested. Computational biology, 12 decent publications, top 100 PhD, but nothing yet for 8 months.

Hey! Thank you so much for helping us to navigate these intense waters of academic life! Pls I have 2 stupid questions for you. 1. We should start to look for postdoc positions one year before graduation right? 2. How long after the interview we know if they accepted us or not? Is there any paperwork involved right after accepting the position?
No problem! I think about a year to six months before graduation is a good time to start looking. Talk to your advisor and see for your specific field what is a normal timeline for finding a postdoc position. After an interview, I would suspect within one week you will hear back. After a week, you can ask politely for an update as you are excited to join the lab. Paperwork will really be a case by case basis depending on the institute, visa status, etc.
actually the PI email says: I am unfortunately unable to accept any incoming visiting researchers into my program at this time due to space constraints.
I’m interested to learn her experience too. Do PI care about where you did your PhD trainings? I had my training in Canada and now applying for postdoc position in US. Can you talk about what are the key aspects PIs are looking for to hire a postdoc? Are publications the most important thing to look at? I understand the criteria is different from person to person.
