You shouldn't have to pry it in place....if the plunger is set in all the way. Slide tensioner in tighten bolts turn crank "clockwise only" until you 1 or 2 clicks from tensioner plunger popping out self adjusting to pressure on chain.

I'm trying to replace mine and it won't go in completely either. 1/4" out with the plunger locked in. IDK

@@Steve-qs9eq i have a new one ill check tomorrow afternoon.Sounds like your on the compression stroke if you could hold in tension on it then turn motor clock wise it should slide all the way in, if you take plugs out would help.

@@harlinkinneman4247 I can feel the chain guide with my finger in the bore, the guide will not move.
I was going to push against the tensioner with the flat end of a pry bar and tighten down the nuts. Unless that's a bad idea?

@@harlinkinneman4247 Thanks a bunch for the advice. Planning to do this soon, but was getting nervous about it. Will keep this in mind.

Is the reason you had to push on the back of the tensioner with a crow bar is because it wouldn't go in the last 1/4"?
I'm having the same issue now.

So is this a common problem or it was just your vibe and how many miles did you have at the time?

Not sure if it’s common, I had a loud noise when starting up and accelerating, but it was more the exhaust manifold. 185k miles

Is this the 1.8? Or 2.4?
