This video shows you how to install a new timing chain tensioner from TRQ on your 2003-2008 Toyota Corolla. The timing chain tensioner ensures the correct tension in the engine timing chain to maintain proper contact with cogs and gears. The timing chain tensioner may become frozen, or too loose, and it would need to be replaced.

I didn't need this video yesterday while I was stripping the motor to replace the time chain. I did come across it when I was searching for info.
I needed it tonight, now that I'm reassembling everything and needed to know how to release the tensioner.

Hi Ty u for the vid! What is the worst that can happen if you at the beginning of this procedure, you didn’t release the pressure by turning the harmonic balancer and the crank bolt? I ask this because a lot of other vids don’t do this pressure releasing step. Ty again!

I heard the big click when I went counter clockwise, but nothing when going clockwise but it moves freely. I guess it popped the hook and set in place in one movement

On my 2010 Toyota Corolla repair manual said to release tensioner hook turn crankshaft to counterclockwise then clockwise. Now I have 2016 Toyota Corolla 2xr-fae should turn clockwise to release the hook

I just did a timing chain job and the chain is not tensioning with the new tensioner. Does it need to run to tension the chain fully? Just don’t want to finish assembling without being confident in it.
I wish someone would show how to do this on a 2004 Rav4 without removing the engine. I'm having a tough time removing the wiring harness that covers the timing chain cover.

Did you have the car lifted in order to turn the engine after install?
Do you need to drain the engine oil before?
Is there supposed to be any slack in the chain at all when the tensioner is operating correctly?
I noticed some loud rattling sometimes especially warming up in the morning. I inspect and find out a huge leaks at the tensioner. Find this video helpful, thanks

Probably should tell people they need to turn the engine to TDC, to avoid jumping a tooth.
Or you can simply add a 236 ml bottle of 'AT-205 RE-SEAL' to your engine oil and that should swell up the old o-ring and stop the leak.
Awesome how you literally show everything but how to get the damn tensioner to retract onto the hook. Kinda FUCKING important.
