@@MayoCarsDR I have a very strange thing going on with my 2010 Lexus HS 250 hybrid, 110k miles.
I bought it at 103 K miles, did oil change, did another at 108K miles and suddenly at 110k, the check engine light came on with the POO12 code. And engine noise. Not too loud but of course I’m concerned. You hear it when the engine kicks in but it seems to quiet down as you drive, but it’s hard to tell from the inside of the car.
We changed out the camshaft position sensor but the noise continued. Then they changed out the oil control valve but the noise continued. Today they are changing the timing chain tensioner and hoping that does it.
If not they think will have to go deeper into the engine.
One mechanic said he could see tiny metal shavings in the oil & it was dirty before the last oil change.
They took the valve cover off and the timing chain looks good and it was tight. They didn’t see any broken chipped or bent pieces on the sprockets.
Your thoughts?
@@MayoCarsDR Well it was not just the timing chain tensioner. That sent me back about 400 and they told me they’re gonna have to dig down deeper in the engine and replace everything that has anything to do with the timing chain. That’s where the noise is. And now there’s three distinct noises and it’s worse than it was before. So I’ve spent $1000 so far replacing the camshaft position center, the oil control valve, and the timing chain tensioner. Now everything else is going to be $3000 minimum. The labor alone is $2000. And right now they really can’t tell me if they know what’s causing the problem. Your thoughts?
I do not even own a Toyota but looking at purchasing an 2008 Scion XD that had the same engine noise at 95,000 miles. Your video is super clear and effective. Your videos have to be a huge asset to many diy mechanics.
Thanks for comment
Actually u do because scions are made by Toyota
thank you for detail inspection and practical job .
Thanks for comment
last thing you did was wrong thats is why loud noise you should rotate manually the crank pulley before you start the engine so that the chain tensioner was release. bad habit..LoL
Thanks for the excellent video. Learn a lot from this. 👍

Same issue on my 2012 Highlander. There should be a class action lawsuit on that VVTi gear.
Yes
Thanks for comment
My 2010 Toyota Corolla is having the same issue now.
@@Iridescent602 a good mechanic at a shop that does imports can do this. I had this job done and asked them to put a new timing chain in. My Highlander runs like new. The issue with my car started at about 120,000 miles. I had the issue fixed at about 174,000 miles. We now have 232,000 miles on the Highlander. Don’t do this at a dealership.
Very interested thanks for video ❤

Excellent, excellent teaching video! What causes ticking sound on the 2gre, 4 cyl Camrys? I've tried LM lifter treatment, still ticking. Used Mobil 0-20 every 5k, regularly. Thanks.
Use 10w30 engine oil

i would like to ask i have a 2009 corolla with a 3zz engine. when i start the engine especially at first start up or cold starts it makes a rattling noise but when the engines get to a optimal temperature the rattling sound goes away. is it a chain tensioner failure?
i would like to know your thoughts before i will bring to a mechanic
thank you!!

This way the VVTI and timing chain tensioner can be damaged ,but you send me a video
Same problem with my 2010 Corolla with 100k miles. Did you fix the problem?
Great video very helpful, what oil you recommend for 2ZRFE engine Toyota Allion 1.8, I use 15w40 as the other oils had kept burning oil , I also have cold start rattle, changing the tensioner soon. How to check properly if the removed tensioner is bad, I couldnt understand in your video. Thanks a lot.
Use
5w30 and 10w30 oil

What would happen if I break a camshaft but It still Gera the bolts tighten? Please advise if smoke Is a posible leak?😊
2016 Toyota corolla timing chain tensioner leak, after install tensioner, to turn crankshaft bolt to counterclockwise or clockwise.?
hello i would like to know how much was the cost for everything including the labor why i have a 2004 Corolla sometimes it makes that rattle when the weather is very cold thank you
Thanks for comment,It cost about 800 USA dollar to fix, but if your Corolla has a 1ZZ-FE engine, that's not a problem.

I have toyota auris 2010 1.3 dual vvti and I need replacement 😫 , any recommendations in UK 🇬🇧 Manchester Area ?
I don't know anyone there
How much would this service cost?
My car doesn’t sound as bad during start up but has the same sound while running. How can I tell if the chain just needs tightening or if I need to replace the cam gears?
Thanks!

Which is Best machnic in islammabad for this model?
is this in kenya?
why use such a thick oil? should be 0/20?
OK, the filming is very clear and editing is great. BUT putting that engine together dry? That is not good practice AT ALL. The new chains should have been soaked with oil plus ass'y lube on the camshaft lobes, every single moving part in there should have been lubricated within an inch of its life - putting together engines DRY is not acceptable -

Is it possible to re seal timing cover 2GR-FE without removing engine?
yes,It is possible but a little difficult
@@MayoCarsDR possible in Lexus es350?
Can this be done with the 3.5L 2GR-FE? Or does the engine have to come out?
If you want to change the VVTI, you can change it without taking the engine out, but if you want to change the timing chain etc., you have to take the engine out.
Hi when I'm breaking may car there is a noise what is the possibility problem of my break since I change my rotor disc and break pad thank you for your reply 🙂
Which vehicle do you have and the sound can come from the front or the back
2003 altis corrola front when I'm breaking
If noise came from the back what does mean?
U need to grease the ends of your brake pads and grease bolts
i have a 2000 corolla ce replaced timing chain tensioner still rattles when cold but not as bad as it beforeonce it warms no rattles
Remove valve cover and check chain sleeper dempr
czcams.com/video/A4UGQqSPxVI/video.html
Did you lock the cams after you put them on?
Yes
Also if the tensioner is cracked like mine was car won't start. Luckily the car was still in time and no broken teeth.
One question, friend, does that engine use 10 w30 or 5w 30 oil?
10w30
Yes, I noticed that too. My 2009 Corolla uses 0w20 full synthetic.
my car is a mercedez bens 350 4matic and sounds like that , when I turn it on it sounds like a knocking in the engine and it vibrates a lot, then it calms down, the sound is like a rattle .. so the problem is the timing chain? the milliage is 150k
Yes of course it could be a timing chain problem
Camry 2014
Toyota Corolla
myvi me just km 150k km,but timing chain noise..
I just changed timing chain tensioner and sound goes away and engine start like new car
I have a 2010 Lexus HS 250 hybrid and it’s making a noise too, but not this loud. The dealer wanted to charge me 6000 so I walked. I found another guy to diagnose it and I’m hoping it’s just the timing chain tensioner but I’m wondering what the heck happened to it? It’s only got 110 K.
@@weaverdreams it happens after 100k because the tensioner don't hold the oil, this is manufacture fault in this design of tensioner
WHAT CAUSED THE CROWN BREAKAGE? WAS IT OUT OF OIL?
Bad Chain Tensioner
Wonder how much a job like this cost. I'm in US
Thanks for comment, It cost about 800 USA dollar to fix,
I u ❤
Thanks for comment
I know my VVT is bad but supposedly you don't need to fix that. It rattle like hell for a couple seconds at start up on a cold start and then runs great after that. If it sets an hour it won't do it. But a few hours it will just the first couple seconds. That's VVT not this noise.
If it is not changed, these sounds will gradually increase
@@MayoCarsDR Yes, I was told this. I don't care for now. We'll see if I care if it's 15 seconds of it.
What if the chain is tight but you have that noise?
Chain tensioner
Pls what's the name of the parts you replaced?
Timing Chain, timing chain tensioner, VVTI gear and chain sleeper
Timing chain
what model and year it is? kilometer info also please.

@@MayoCarsDR thanks!
What was the cost for above work
Labor 200$
The BS with the bell throughout the entire video really ruined an otherwise great video. ☹️
Oil starvation
You forgot to manaully rotate the crank to release the chain tensioner first before starting it. Great way to jump timing after all that work...smh
gev me tha job sir plz

Toyota quality going down
Horrible they need to recall and fix all their mistakes.
@@JB.1234LOL 😂😂😂😂 How abour Ford & Chevy.. per vehicle Toyota has the least issues. Work on a few and you’ll see
@nordicpride9708 i dont drive a ford or chevy so i dont know how they are but i do know Toyota and the quality has gone down 80% since the 90s.
After 200.000+ km mine has the same problem too. I'm actually happy, a friend of mine with a bmw had to already change his engines after just 60.000km.
@@JB.1234since the 90s? are you high? their 9th gen is one of the BEST generations they've EVER created and this is unanimous across all engineers, technicians and virtually any mechanic. that spans from 03-08. since the 90s? get with reality bro lmao their 98 corollas were trash with horrible oil burning and leak and gasket issues and master toyota mechanics will tell you this all day long.
Sorry should not rattle like that at first start
