    I've owned the Polaris Pro R 2 seat for 2 years now and the Can Am Maverick R for at least 8 months. I review them head-to-head from the seat position to the suspension and everything in between. I like both Can Am and Polaris, these are just my personal thoughts and experiences driving both cars. Thank you guys for watching, make sure you hit the subscribe button and leave a comment.

    Pro R is super liable which is a pro……but the fact that it has a belt means it’s bad? Look at belt is like a fuse. Its simplicity and sacrifice means other systems can be more reliable.

    I have rs1, pro r , speed utv and a maverick r. The One i love the most is my rs1 i put in a polaris turbo engine ( it bolts up ) in it . then put and evo big turbo, injectors ,fuel pump , long travel kit on it . Wife likes the pro r . Yes i did radiator relocation in back on the rs1. I probably put more money in the rs1 then in any other unit . I am retired sold the company i just play now . Wife also has a rs1 but likes the pro r for the comfort. The funny thing i did the engine swap two weeks after they came out did battery relocation also so i alsio did a fuel cell put front for more fuel about 22 gallons if i remember. Oh my former business was part fabrication and part manufacturing . So in my home shop i have a small machine shop and metal fabrication shop .

    So I was at Dumont for New Years and met a group running 3 Drakart Sand Cars. Same size as a SxS, but my opinion 10x the build quality and basically cost the same. Now you can go balls out on a build and probably be close to $100k, but my buddy is close to $80k on his RZR and these Drakart cars were killing him.

    Its a hard choice. Polaris does a great car when its not factory turboed. For can-am x3 was so reliable but it doesn't seem like that has carried over to the mav r. I had problems with my x3 last season. It was due to aftermarket parts. I was sick of having issues with map sensors and injector adapters. I had no desire to go riding and I was ready for a new car. The first speed I saw in person was broken down on the second day of ownership and took him out for the weekend. I did settle on the mav r but ultimately decided to wait. I got my x3 fixed and it worked fine the rest of the season. Hopefully can-am works out the issues by the time I am ready buy.

    Turbo S is the absolute allrounder. Light, fast, and durable. 4 seater had that magical wheelbase. It will be the sherpa of the sxs world. Great chassis, stuiply simple maintenance, and a demon in races. It was and always will be more than it should have. It was supposed a gap filler, yet it crushed the competition. Probably, the best ever SxS made outside of the intitial release of the RZR 1000. Both of them changed the game.

      That turbo s is is really good I agree

    • @LGHTSPD675
      @LGHTSPD675 Před 28 dny +1

      @desertsxs Text wall inbound... Being totally honest and as industry insider, the RZR 1000 XP was the biggest jump in SxS performance ever, amazing platform...and had a very special suspension/chassis geometry engineer (also an amazing person). Even though the OG XP1K's may not be the fastest, they were and still are quite capable, but the reason they sold more units than any other sport SxS ever is that they were so much damn fun to drive. Turbo S only raised the weight very slightly and didn't raise the HP over the Turbo XP, making it ever so slightly more fun. You could feel every movement on those chassis, the vehicle spoke to you, you were integral to the performance - much the same way a good motocross rider is integral to a bike. The new platforms are certainly faster, but they don't communicate in the same way, but can drive through and over serious obstacles - there is noticeably less warning too. I suspect it's the big increased weight combined with the really big suspension travel, but there is a numbness to the new machines. Don't get me wrong, progress is inevitable, but fun and rider/driver experience should be prioritize Heck, I was very impressed by the Wildcat XX suspension/chassis performance, it ate whoops like a boss and was certainly more than the sum of it's parts, but it felt like I was just in a seat turning the wheel when necessary (reliability concerns aside). Same goes for the newest crop of SxS's, though extremely reliable something is lacking. I want an adventure, a driving experience, not just outright speed and a seat. I want to participate and not have to always mash the gas on a 220+hp rig to get that thrilling feeling. What happened to precision light weight engineering and lively yet predictable handing? Why are we moving away from that? It's what built the SxS universe. It keeps things affordable and accessible to most of us, you guys are clearly a function step above average drivers, but there are more of us average SxS users (we are still way better drivers compared to average motorists). But i fear it's just like the sportbike fade, the relentless pursuit towards HP until it becomes untenable and a niche only product, with a shadow of its former sales. Dirt bikes have sustained themselves well by keeping HP levels reasonable, improving suspension, and making power delivery more useable for the average rider. SxS Industry needs to consider this before the government (CPSC) steps in and makes them the next 3 wheeler. Can-am already has 100mph+ that is stock from an OEM! 300hp+ from OEMs is only a few years out, not wise for the sport overall IMO. I love progress, but safety and progress need to be united. What I want most is to keep the sport growing. We are very close to vehicles that exceed consumer capability, if we aren't there already. That won't be good for any of us. I have turned quite a few fast laps in my time and driven the very latest machinery, it is my opinion the industry needs to put self regulated caps in place soon...before it is too late.

    The can am cars sound like old swing sets after hundreds of miles. I do not understand why everyone is ok with its fit and finish. No Belt is great for some things but not for all things. It’s like everyone think because its a DCT then it cant break. In fact if it does you will be wishing it was a $300 replaceable part instead

      Congratulations on the stupidest comment of the day. They’ve practically been giving away these Polaris with huge factory rebate while there was a waiting list for the. Mav R’s. It’s only been recently. They have been discounting the Mav R’s because the markets have headed south for just about anything with a motor

    I'm surprised that you didn't mention the biggest failure that both of these cars has is the PTL of the PRO R, which is the torque limiter inside the transmission that EVERYONE is breaking in the racing world. These fail almost every race, so EVERY SINGLE factory supported desert racer must remove their transmission before every race to replace it, and even when they start with a fresh one, they still only survive half of the races. The biggest kept secret, especially among the factory supported racers, is that if you want to competitively race a pro r at any level, you will have to pull your transmission and replace your PTL before the race, and cross your fingers that you will make it through the race without it failing. Wayne Matlock broke it at district 38 and the Baja 500. Sierra Romo also broke it at the Baja 500, and Brock Heger broke as well. All of these guys started the race with brand new PTLs, but they all still broke during the race. I'm guessing that you didn't mention this because you have not broken one yet. A dune application probably isn't anywhere nearly as hard as a race application, so maybe that's why this isn't an issue for you. In the racing application, this has made the Polaris pro r the worst reliable car to race. That's why the factory team races 4-5 cars now, so that one of them still has a shot to win without breaking a PTL.

  • @JeffreyJohnston724

    I would not buy either of them. I do trail riding . I like having something that is very reliable with enough power to get the job done and not be worried about reliability and burning threw belts and have room to haul gear and a dog I dont want to buy something that needs a ton of aftermarket parts to make it what I want as far as performance . polaris is known for profits over reliability they bid parts on the world market and really don't care about quality control. when I shopped for my sxs I researched the corporation first .the history of consistency in all aspects of every thing from procurement to production to long term reliability and customer satisfaction . and ask my self if I was not looking to buy the product is this a company that I would invest a million or two in and be proud to have them as a company in my portfolio. So in conclusion I dont do the kind of riding you do so that type of buggy is not what I bought let alone the company that makes them , so for what I needed turned out to be a yamaha rmax 1000 xtr 2 seater and then I spent about 5 grand loading it up with all the custom accessories that I needed to make it like I wanted with out having to do any thing to thee drive train or suspension . that's just how I personally go about things .

      What I think is pathetic is the people who don't even know how to work on their own cars and if they have a crappy shop work on them one problem turns into multiple repeat breakdowns so they blame the car.
