1976 SPECIAL REPORT: "THE NATION OF ISLAM IN TRANSITION"(PART I)

- In 1975, Elijah Muhammad died and was succeeded by his son, Wallace Muhammad.
Wallace Muhammad had had a strained relationship with his father and his father's teachings; while imprisoned in the early 1960s he had moved closer to Sunni Islam and had left the Nation on several occasions during the 1960s and 1970s, having re-joined in 1974.
As leader, Wallace Muhammad launched what he called a "Second Resurrection" in the movement.
He increasingly aligned the group with Sunni Islam, rejecting many of the Nation's idiosyncratic teachings, including its claim that Fard was God, that Elijah Muhammad had been a prophet, the Myth of Yakub, and the claims about the Mother Plane. He retained the Nation's themes of black pride, healthy diets, sexual modesty, and economic self-determination. "Temples" were renamed "mosques", while "ministers" were renamed "imams".
The FOI was disbanded, with Wallace calling it a "hooligan outfit".
Black nationalism was abandoned, and the ban on white people joining the Nation was lifted.
In November 1976, the Nation was renamed the World Community of al-Islam in the West, and in April 1978, it was renamed the American Muslim Mission.
Wallace Muhammad also renamed himself, first to Warith Deen and then to Warithuddin Muhammad.
Wallace Muhammad claimed that these changes were in accordance with his father's intentions;[328] he claimed to be in contact with Fard Muhammad, and that the founder had established the NOI's idiosyncratic beliefs as a means of gradually introducing Islamic teachings to African Americans, with the ultimate intention of bringing them to mainstream Sunni Islam.
He claimed that the Nation's old belief that the white man was the Devil referred to mental whiteness, a state that is rebelling against Allah, rather than light-skinned people themselves.
Most mosques remained with Wallace Muhammad during these reforms but some mosques rejected them, seeking to return to the group's original teachings small splinter groups emerged in Detroit, Atlanta, and Baltimore.
In 1985, Wallace Muhammad disbanded the organization, telling his followers to affiliate instead with their local mosques.

I grew up this way and strayed to the life of partying when I got older but Islam is forever my faith
A Lot of Our Ppl Had to Have Someone That Would Straighten Us Out And Bring Us Up From the Dead #ThankYouAllahForUnderstanding Brother @HezakyaNewz✊🏽👑❤️🌎💯
That’s pitiful. No one should be forced to hold someone’s hand throughout life. It’s exhausting to think for other people.
Eh Elijah Muhammad was a prophet in America and became very very much in tune with what's real doesn't take a Muslim to know that WE ELEVATE ISLAM even in the days of Muhammad
My father joined the NOI in New Orleans in 1960 and left it in 69 in D.C. He took his shahada in D.C. in 1969 and became Muslim(Sunni). I am 47 and born Muslim
on the way of the Sunnah Alhamdulillah.
The orthodox Islam world has adopted White Supremacist ideology and racism towards black people including black orthodox Muslims. The Majids are racially divided. You can't go to a Pakistani or Arab Masjid. It fails to instill black empowerment, black independency and the justice that black people in America need.
I'm sure those white Arabs are treating you like a stepchild. They see a black person who is Muslim as subhuman because the Arab is on his white supremacy. Thats why the Masjids are segregated. Why suck up to them? Why kiss their azz?
May Allāh bless and preserve You and him حفظكما الله وبارك فيكما
Happy Black History Month!
As a young kid I remember the NOI. I was very impressed with what they were doing. I saw what the so called Black Churches wasn't doing, which were uniting. As a matter of fact the Black Church was so divide on the most basic things we needed as a community. But the Nation, own business, Grocery store, restaurant, banks, fish market, clothing stores, real estate, farmland and their own newspaper. The Black Church should have watch and learn what these brothers and sisters was doing.
unfortunately they will never do this.. they arent a nation and will never think like a nation
I agree, grew up in NYC, 116th street and Lenox ave was a NO-FLY zone. Meaning, there was no foolishness in that area period! Businesses, restaurants, clothing stores were on the block. When you walked on that block, your head was held high, and your shoulders went back because of fierce pride that radiated from that area. I am fortunate to have seen this with my own eyes! I know what heaven on earth looks like. That was it right there!!!
Looks to me like the NOI divides black and white people by insinuating that ALL white people are evil and out to get poc
Salaam my brotha ✊🏾
I grew up in the transitioned community 2nd Res.
Shout out to your channel ,upload more please
It was a transition back to a cold and death state .
It was a transition of being master of yourself and putting the religion of Islam into your daily practice. We didn't come out of our mother's womb with the FOI standing around us.
When religion gets a hold of your mind there is no level of stupidity you’ll stoop to. Trading Elijah for Wallace is a prime example.
I have been black all my life even in 1976 and was taught to bathe EVERYDAY. My parents taught me that not Muslims.
Hell razah. One of my favorite MC ever.
R 💯 % facts and truth. Allah Akabar! 🕋🇧🇪👍😎
Interesting
Great doc, Elijah Muhammad was a great man fasho
A little fornicating fraud like all charlatans, got teenage secretaries pregnant then ban them from the church until they have the baby, guy was a creep.
17:21 what im'mo do when I start having children,and become a successful father 👑💯💯💯🙏🏿
It was a strong transition
28:50 😂
My father's transition to Orthodox Sunni Islam was before the death of Elijah Muhammad in 1975 and Imam Warith Deen (Wallace) Muhammad.

Emphatically, now cipher!!
He is not Dead. He is alive and well on the Wheel.
That mother Plane is the truth i seen it with my own Eyes
Murderers of Malcolm
Absolutely wrong
THE WOODS MURDERED MALCOLM!!
Apparently you're unaware of the Muslim that was exonerated in Malcolm's death. All fingers and proof point towards FBI and NYPD
So you're obviously gonna dismiss all the information that has come to the surface concerning Malcolm's death in the last 2½ years. His own daughter keeps petitioning the United States government to open the files because she knows this was a conspiracy of the government on the city, state and federal level, using black faces that claimed to be followers of the Nation of Islam.
the same devils who killed JFK and MLK killed Malcolm, fool
Ppl will look at this and hear the teachings of THEM and say with a straight face that nothing has changed.
LONG LIVE MUHAMMAD 🤴🏽 HEZAKYA NEWZ 🔥🔥🔥HELL RAZAH AND R.A. 🔥🔥🔥
Allah Akbar
Nation of gods and earths we still building!!!!
Peace God
With all due respect, Master Fard Muhammad never taught he was god in person, while among us. That was taught by the Honorable Elijah Muhammad after Fard departed in 1934. Master Fard identified himself as a professor (teacher) when he was in Detroit. However, did allow the word "prophet" to placed on the NOI's literature, as it related to himself. In terms of Imam WD Muhammad, he brought us into a deeper understanding of the religion of Islam, in terms of putting Islam into daily practice. Prior to 1975, we didn't read the Holy Qur'an. The book was placed high on the shelf, and stayed there. We were still heavily into the Bible in the early 1970s. Lastly, for the people who didn't agree with the Imam's leadership, they were free to go join with Minister Farrakhan after 1977.
Facts, the lessons referred to Master Farad Muhammad as a prophet and not Allah
@@freelink4703 correction! Master Fard never considered himself to be a prophet. He did allow the word "prophet" to be placed on the original newsletter of the Nation of Islam in 1934, The Final Call to Islam. Master Fard presented himself to his original followers in Detroit as a "professor" and they where his students. Remember, his first followers didn't know how to read nor sign their own names.
3:25 We were at our best. Children were organized and disciplined. The women civilized and feminine. Black owned business in the community that employed black people. True Islam (Afro-Asiatic Black Godness, Black Family and Black Nationhood) and not that Arabized fanatical spirit God Islam.
And black men didn’t beat and take off on black women and be deadbeat fathers.
Peace if your referring to the God of the bible then you need to know he is partial....... they're called the Israelites his chosen. In the so called old testament and new testament he has a people!
Turning on Malcolm hurt the movement of the nation and islam religion did too. HEM/Malcolm had the greatest movement and influence on Black people. Turning on Malcolm cause great damage to the noi.
Nation of Islam was at its strongest after Malcolm.
@@Tremelle_ how. It's known that y'all fall apart after Malcolm. How could you not he was the number 1 representative of the honorable Elijah Muhammad even more so after he died. Lot of people left after Malcolm and after HEM died. Back into the streets and drugs. Jail and crime. Stop hating on Malcolm he was the most dedicated till they turned on him
@@TimrodRa my comment has nothing to do with any hatred towards brother Malcolm. I’m simply telling you the nation was at its strongest after him. I can show & prove quite easily.
@@Tremelle_ you know the history and the hit the nation took after Malcolm or not strong to lose member and lose the love of the community, it's not strong when disciples leave and go back to dope and crime. Businesses falling. Tax trouble. And leadership conflicts I'll say Farrakhan had to rebuild a struggling noi from the inner termoil in the noi from the 60s and 70s
The Nation Of Islam had nothing to do with Malcolm's death...and got stronger and stronger
APDTA 4 T.H.E.M! 🤲🏾
bathing once a week was not part of black culture bruh
They were sued for child abuse and child slavery. These people are acting. 🎭
lol no they weren’t. Wrong sect
No Black leader or Black organization has accomplished what The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad accomplished with the so-called least of Black people - what a wonderful and what a beautiful man - I don't have a problem saying that I worship The Messenger -
Absolutely!
So ,you know nothing of the honorable Marcus Garvey movement of the 1920s?
🤣
@@perspectiveoutlook1540 There's no comparison. I don't diminish Garvey but when we look at 40 years of work and accomplishments vs a decade (if that), well, you do the math.
@@perspectiveoutlook1540 yes I do - there's a great biography on The Honorable Marcus Garvey titled "Negro with A Hat" - The Messenger left a fortune and a viable organization - the u.s. government was able to undermine The Honorable Marcus Garvey because his vetting of followers were not as thorough as The Messenger and were not as displine as The NOI - The Messenger himself praised the works of The Honorable Marcus Garvey -
Islam💫💫💫💫💫
Why would I give you my money? That’s stupidity.
I'm not buying a tayerskin, fishstick or bean pie from they a## because of how they assassinated Malcolm X
@@aarondigby5054 nypd, j Edgar Hoover & the cia are behind Malcolms assassination. In 2024 you have the resources to research this information.
Growing up in nyc I saw the Muslims build schools, hospitals, stores etc

The Black man in particularly will continue to lose at everything and everywhere until The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad is placed in his rightful place in the beautiful Black struggle in the wilderness of north amerikkka -
He was funded by white supremacy. So who’s the real kkk?

I think people joined the nation because they wanted black unity and to United under one belief for black people. Only thing is God is not partial to an ethnic group because of their skin God see’s deaper to the soul n spirit that is in every man. There’s only one true God all others are false. From the beginning til end his truth rules over everyone. Bible says “my sheep hear my voice and will not follow another.” All the prophets agree there is a Messiah, One Lord, One faith, one baptism. Come out from them what fellowship does darkness have with light? “ Enter in by the narrow gate for Wide is the way to destruction and many there go in by it, but narrow is the way that leads to life, and there few who find it” Mathew 7:13-14 We know world politics never leads us to life, peace n salvation. Only truth, love , righteousness. 🙏🙏🙏💜💜💜
People joined the Nation because they saw something that worked where everything else had failed, including the idea of "God" you speak of.
Spouting that rhetoric is exactly what we're on the bottom. Explain how God (your idea) blesses everyone else but Black people. Why he speaks to them in their own language and comes via a representative of that particular people. Explain how, if "God" isn't partial to a race or ethnicity, then why do certain groups proclaim themselves the chosen people. And are successful?
@@rodneyholmes5260 because some people call themselves chosen people doesn't make it true. There is no such thing as chosen people. That idea is based on fantasy.
Quite to the contrary of what you write is the fact that Allah god DOES have a favorite people, a chosen people. This choice will be made manifest upon gods reappearance in the world in the last days. Is that not what the bible teaches? Shall I go on?
@rodneyholmes5260 they are successful because of a blank check from Washington DC
Women had to be in by dark? Didn't know that but if you notice you'll see that, they're only out at night when they attend service
