  • In 1975, Elijah Muhammad died and was succeeded by his son, Wallace Muhammad. Wallace Muhammad had had a strained relationship with his father and his father's teachings; while imprisoned in the early 1960s he had moved closer to Sunni Islam and had left the Nation on several occasions during the 1960s and 1970s, having re-joined in 1974.
As leader, Wallace Muhammad launched what he called a "Second Resurrection" in the movement.
He increasingly aligned the group with Sunni Islam, rejecting many of the Nation's idiosyncratic teachings, including its claim that Fard was God, that Elijah Muhammad had been a prophet, the Myth of Yakub, and the claims about the Mother Plane. He retained the Nation's themes of black pride, healthy diets, sexual modesty, and economic self-determination. "Temples" were renamed "mosques", while "ministers" were renamed "imams". The FOI was disbanded, with Wallace calling it a "hooligan outfit". Black nationalism was abandoned, and the ban on white people joining the Nation was lifted.
In November 1976, the Nation was renamed the World Community of al-Islam in the West, and in April 1978, it was renamed the American Muslim Mission.
Wallace Muhammad also renamed himself, first to Warith Deen and then to Warithuddin Muhammad.
Wallace Muhammad claimed that these changes were in accordance with his father's intentions; he claimed to be in contact with Fard Muhammad, and that the founder had established the NOI's idiosyncratic beliefs as a means of gradually introducing Islamic teachings to African Americans, with the ultimate intention of bringing them to mainstream Sunni Islam.
He claimed that the Nation's old belief that the white man was the Devil referred to mental whiteness, a state that is rebelling against Allah, rather than light-skinned people themselves.
Most mosques remained with Wallace Muhammad during these reforms but some mosques rejected them, seeking to return to the group's original teachings; small splinter groups emerged in Detroit, Atlanta, and Baltimore.
In 1985, Wallace Muhammad disbanded the organization, telling his followers to affiliate instead with their local mosques.

One thing I have respect for in the black American nation of Islam back in the 1970's is that black American Muslims at that time they had respect for themselves. It's seemed to me that they nation of Islam really taught black Americans Muslims men and women how to carry themselves and show them how they needed to be treated in a racist white country like America. Us black Americans are in trouble in America we really need to go back and be taught how to conduct our lives and we need an awaking from Jesus Christ and need to hope and Jesus Christ.

The black American nation of Islam has a lot of good morals and values and teach on healthy eating habits and they understand black economic empowerment for their faith but it doesn't change the fact that the nation Islam is nothing a religious cult. This cult religion controls the women minds, the men can have more than 1 wife and they believe a man religion Allah not Jesus Christ who is the real messiah. I thank God everyday my parents didn't fall for religious cults. My parents believed in the one and only Jesus Christ my personal Lord and savior. Who died on the cross for my sins. Thank you! Malcolm X despised the mistreatment of women in the NOI this video is the result of after Elijah Muhammad dying . Nevermind Wallace's misdeeds but I think it was necessary because the women were treated like sex slaves, maids and unwed mothers. I would like to add Elijah Muhammad intent to scare people into worshipping him. The whole " Touch not my anointed and do my Prophets no harm " was used wrongly. Especially if you were living totally in the Old Testament. Which is filled with war and death. In my opinion , Wallace public apology wasn't necessary. Muhammad Ali was arrogant and narcissistic he thought the world owed him. Yes he was brave however thats cancelled because of his treatment of his ex-wife and children. Oh and 17 yo bride and you are 25? That's perverted.

And he also disliked them wearing headrags it made them look unattractive. Also, They specifically targeted young women in order to keep their charade going. Y'all must have forgotten Malcolm was Detroit Red and he knew the hustle and from my understanding, the Nation was filled with pimps and hustlers . @@smokeurobinson and also some of y'all forget that people who were in the highest echelon of NOI leadership were jealous of Malcolm, because he was the most vocal, loved and respected. The same ministers in the NOI were feeding the wrong energy to Elijah about Malcolm X. The mistake that was made was that after Malcolm X was banished from the NOI, in January 1965 attempts began to be made on his life. This shows that the NOI was full of thugs and bigots. It was when that Malcolm X realized that the NOI wanted to get rid of him that he came out publicly on June 8th 1965 and exposed why the Nation was out to get him and he said it's because he knew of Elijah's infidelity. And Malcolm X said had the NOI left him alone he wouldn't reveal why he was thrown out of the NOI without being accepted back. You can't go around that. Malcolm X defied orders and he accepted his punishment, but putting him out and making attempts on his life that was extreme, for a man who gave 12years of his life to build that organization.

    • @smokeurobinson
      @smokeurobinson Před 6 měsíci +3

@@FabianNdegeObg20000 There is no way Malcolm came out publicly to say anything on June 8th 1965 because he was killed on Feb 21st 1965. Malcolm openly defied the leaders orders for all to see. He set himself up for the backlash he recieved from the NOI. And Malcolms public defiance didnt help those jealous leaders u mentioned hating him more. Malcolm himself turned his back on his own blood brother when his brother was banished from the NOI so when Malcolm got banished it was just routine from people who werent even related to him. Malcolm then went to the white mans media and bashed The Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The same white man who Malcolm said was a devil for 12 years. Of course loyal followers of Elijah Muhammad would want him killed for such defiance.

@@smokeurobinson it's funny because the NOI had no problem when Malcolm X was promoting and putting the NOI on the map for the world, the NOI had no problem with him using the white man's media. Let's stop this double talk. Malcolm X distanced himself from his brother but didn't call for his brothers death or call his brother mentally unstable.
Wallace Muhammad has said himself calling out for Malcolm's X death was a wrong thing to do in the newspaper.
Malcolm X went to Mike Wallace and set everything on the record by doing an interview because he knew the NOI was out to get him. I believe what Malcolm X said, because first he was in the NOI for 12years.
2nd. He was part of the inner circle and leadership so he knew how things worked around in the NOI.
3rd. History has proved Malcolm X after joining the NOI, the fbi looked for all sort of dirt to tarnish his name but couldn't find any. The man tried to live a honourable life as much as he could and his sincerity is unquestionable.
4th. On the day after Malcolm's assassination Elijah Muhammad was interviewed and he said he disagreed with Malcolm X because Malcolm X wanted to use arms and violence which was a blantant lie. Malcolm X only called for self defense and reciprocity of a deed done to you. Instead of EM mentioning of his extra marital affairs he went and lied on his former spokesperson.
5th. There is an interview of Captain Yusuf Shah done by Spike Lee where he says the NOI bombed Malcolm's X house on 14th Feb 1965. When Malcolm X accused the NOI for bombing his house, they claimed that Malcolm X did it for publicity.
All of these fallacies show who is deceitful and who is sincere. The death of Malcolm X was a disgrace because of a few jealous individuals who were jealous and wanted luxury, comfort and security.
