#MarkKnopfler - Hudba
I was 76 years old when I was diagnosed with stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. A dear friend recommended that my wife and I listen to Mark Knopfler’s music. I had never heard about Mark Knopfler before and so I’ve started listening to him and it was amazing how how he kept me out of my head and put me straight into my heart through the process of simply listening to his words and music. It helped me take care myself I spite of cancer and after 6 months I was cancer free. I’m still listening to Mark Knopfler and I will listen to him for the rest of my life.
❤❤❤
I am so, so glad to know you are now cancer free! I am praising God for your miraculous recovery! I just turned 65 ... today ... and I have just now found Mark Knopfler and I am really enjoying him! I will keep listening to him and I'm sure your story will add fuel to this new flame! God bless you!

I am headed to my final colonoscopy I suspect because my genetic colon cancer has grown Sand spread..it hurts..I am filled with hope, but deep down I know that zI will not win this battle..this was a Good Life and this enchanting music makes me glad hearted. I am 70 and alone, but not fearful..

Anyone else listening to this masterpiece in 2024
All the time...all the time.
Started with Hurray for the Riff Raff latest release and then the Iguanas and then wanting some bologna again, and detoured here. Greg Brown next
Here with ya! Never heard a Mark Knopfler song I didn't like, but this one breaks my heart every time I listen. Which is often!
yessssssss
Loved this number for too many years
I’m 26 years old and own every album on vinyl and cd. One of the greatest musicians of all time . And I will keep this music alive by sharing it with my children.
I'm 68 and I've never stopped listening!
This was my first love song, I met a swiss girl in summer in spain, and when she cames back to switzerland I wrote for her letters of love while I was listening this song in my room. Her name was Juliette. I was 14 years old, now I'm 50. And thiss song made me remember her... ❤
First loves are special, I had mine in summer camp at 12 years old. Innocent and sweet. 😊
Bitter/Sweet
About 20 yrs ago I was talking to an English guy in a pub in California. He mentioned that he was on his way to see Mark Knopfler in concert and asked if I was a fan. I replied that I was a casual fan of Dire Straits etc. The look of incredulity that came over his face, I'll never forget. He then goes to the jukebox and plays 5 or 6 Knopfler tunes back to back and says nothing while they play. At the end, looks at me and says, are you a fan yet? Well, here I am writing about it 20 yrs later.
lol
That is an awesome story! Thanks for sharing!

what place where you in that still had a jukebox in 2000. Good story, but I smell a load of BS
@@Gantzz321 Lots of bars and pubs in 2000 had juke boxes and some still do.
I'm 70 years old and I was never a big Dire Straits fan, frankly never listened to enough of their music. About two years ago this song kept popping up on my CZcams suggestions. I finally listened to it even though I didn't even know who Mark was. So glad I did, I have become a bit obsessed with his music ever since. I know some people here loved this music when they were 3 days old. All I can say is better late than never.
So glad you found this master of music!! Mark is so much more than Dire Straits!!
Dig deeper it's the imagery...... Check out Telegraph road there's a cool Thorens recording here on you tube Check out Baloney again....Ck out.blackbird the Man is 1 of the Greatest musicians all time

Never too late ! I'm a fan since 35 years, this guy is the best !
good for you, enjoy..
Mark : "I can't do a love song, like the way it's meant to be"...

@@gege4707it might be irrelevant to you but it’s not irrelevant to millions of other people!
Just about to write the same. Probably the greatest love song I ever heard. Been going back to this one since I was a teen in the late 80s. No one has summed up the naive love of a young dude like this song.
Jeans, a comfortable shirt, no distractions just musical genius. What a privilege to have grown up with artists like Mark Knopfler
Well the other guy kind of has a flashy shirt not hating just saying lol
Not a fan of the trend of theatrics and choreography. I want true musicians who play off each other and give their all to the music being made. I always wanted to be one, never had the guts to follow it. I respect them very much.

Mark must be the best ever well he is in my book.
He looks like my late uncle Arne here, his face, body and demeanour (A. died aged ninety a few years ago). The two had the same kind of wry, unsentimental charm and practical hands (playing the guitar and arranging music for Mark, electrical & construction engineering, cars and gardening for my uncle). Needless to say, this detail make the song and this great performance even more poignant to me.
And yes, this is a superb take of the song by all hands on deck. The only aspect I could be missing is to get to see Emmylou Harris step in and take part in it too (yeah, I know they were touring together and that she sat out on this one).
Dire Straits was the soundtrack to my teens. I'm now 61. I hope I'm not alone in that putting headphones on and listening to the skill, art and absolute magic of Mark and his guitar transports me to a place....there is nothing but the raw emotion this song evokes. I will be forever grateful.
How fast it went 🥲
For sure not alone, I do same and I am 66
Muito linda ouço todo dia
He has some magical transcendental touch that words cant quite explain. Such a rare and unique talent. Dude raise my fur and makes me weep. Dude is one of a kind!
You are not alone brother. Word for word, including the age.
It's 2023 and it's definitely one of the best songs of all time, a total masterpiece. It never gets old.
Only started listening to this in November. At first it took a while for me to appreciate it but now I can’t stop playing it. Something about the beat, melody and lyrics that just keep me coming back. I don’t know much music but I find this one to be more complex and have more detail. I can’t describe it I haven’t heard a song like it.
Next karaoke song for sure
Cried my eyes out to this in 82, battered by unrequited love as a teenager. 40 years later I still have a tear in my eye, and can sing it word for word 💕

The song resonates with those deepest loves, and it does it so sweetly. I can look back and smile and say, "You and me babe, how 'bout it".
I remember coming home when I was about 17 (2001) singing this and my mum was so chuffed! "you've discovered real music" she said. RIP Mum, one of a thousand memories x
Nice share. Honour to moms !

I was chuffed when my son bought Brothers in Arms CD. He was heavily into clubbing music at the time which made it even more admirable. He's long left home now and I still haven't got my own copy. Must rectify that.

I am so sorry for your loss.. may his souls rest in peace, and may the pain of his passing one day melt away and leave behind the fondest memories of your time together ❤
I once heard Mark Knopfler in an interview acknowledge that there is no way he would have made it in the music business today. That says more about the rotten state of the music business than it says about the creative guitar genius who wrote songs as graceful and poignant as this, Romeo and Juliet. Thank God my generation had the taste and ability to recognise what is distinctive and timeless.
Uuuuuuhhhhhh……I think he could have hahah he might not have gotten a label right away but look at the hundreds of millions of views and BILLIONS of streams. People feel his humble, amazing talent and soothing songwriter to this day. I play music out and I see younger people perk up to his music.
huh, what in the devil are you on about. Firstly there are far more methods of music distribution in the world today than there were in 1978 when Dire Straits were releasing their first album. Nowadays a fella can release just about anything on youtube or bandcamp and the world will be able to access it. Uhh yea thats all I have to say, dogshit take, L uhhh yea I like pizza and happy new years love sam
Agree - he wouldn't have made it past a small cult reputation today, neither as a solo artist nor with the original band. When Dire Straits came along they were actually seen as the antithesis of everything that was hot and happening in the music biz, everything you were supposed to be as a young band. A bunch of laid-back men approaching thirty, playing jazz/country /blues-tinged songs with low-key, half-muttered lyrics and the primary attraction was Mark's technically flawless, rolling guitar playing. It was 1977/78 and you couldn't have *got* further from punk! Music journalists who saw them at early gigs before they had been signed brushed them off as "competent but boring", The lyrics were about jazz bands, life in Newcastle and un-hip local northern artists ("In the Gallery").The rock press felt it was a kind of music that might have been played fifteen years earlier, before even the Beatles came along.
Dire Straits was the kind of stuff that Punk was NOT, and punk was more or less where you "had to be" as a young band at that time. The debut album and their first singles were true surprise hits, both in the UK and across Europe, and they were picked up by people at FM radio stations (a type of music mixing that barely exists today when radio has become far more streamlined). No, they wouldn't have had a chance of breaking through to a major-label contract and big hits today, the music/media biz has long since stopped working that way.
well put and accurate.
He also said he was lucky that he came into music as an 'adult' and can see how young people get led astray
This is not a song. This is a prayer.
AMEN TO THAT COMMENT. HE TRULY IS THE BEST.
It truly is just lovely❤
Yes of course 😢
Mark Knopfler on guitar makes me teary and I don't know why. It's just so...beautiful.
Not many artist from this day and age can do that, it’s something special to be able to do that
Y'all I think he's my lost 'soulmate' ☺️😊😁🤗😎
That's because he plays with his heart ❤️ and soul, the greatest guitarist off all time, nobody comes close
He can make the Guitar Sing. Along with His Beautiful Voice only a few Others can do this, like D.Gilmore, Bruce S, etc.
Mr Knopfler at his peak. This is my favorite live version of this timeless song.
his peak was 25 years ago
The best beautiful intro... That piano... Oh man... This is a masterpiece ❤
An absolute musical genius. My late father called Mark Knopfler the greatest music writer and guitarist of his generation. I'd be close to saying THE greatest. I have so many great family memories and in alot of them I can clearly remember dire straits setting the background ambiance. Even lying on his death bed dying from cancer my father had his portable stereo beside him playing dire straits till his end. I believe it kept him in a state of peace. And at his funeral he was walked out to Why Worry. So thank you Mr Knopfler for blessing us with your music. I truly do appreciate it. I hope to one day save enough money to buy a guitar good enough to do your music justice and learn to play sultans of swing. I'll go sit with my dad and play it to him.
your father had a good taste....
No matter to buy a guitar : MUSIC IS IN THE WIND FOREVER catch it or not
Worthy child of a worthy father👍
God given talent, Music that will still be played, long after you and I have gone. transcends space and time
You don’t need the guitar. Just build a playlist on your phone. Lean against his headstone, put on the headphones, and think about him as each song plays. You’re a very good son,
That legitimately made me cry. Good going. My brother plays his guitar at my younger brother's grave each year. Its so freaking heart felt and meaningful. Do it.
Half the world loves mark ...the other half hasn’t found him yet

Mark Knopfler just stands there as relaxed as someone taking a leak - no puffed up egotistical jerk there...that is raw talent and a humble modest artist - the likes we seldom see.

This song never gets old... masterpieces rarely do. Guys and girls you gotta listen to Mark playing his instrumental Going Home, I lived with end stage heart failure from 42 until 52, and man that song listened to really loud felt like I was finally going home and rest and peace were within my grasp......I incredibly received a heart transplant 4 and a half years ago.... How Dire Straits did not have more number ones is criminal! What a magnifcent talent Mark Knopfler is.
It's not about getting the number one spot It's all about the passion of pure music that tugs at the heart
they sold over 100m albums. I think they did ok.
Knopfler’s guitar playing is so clean and restrained but still so powerful. Sad to see the music industry moving away from true musical artists such as him.
Check out Dan Navarro. Folk song writer/singer. A musical hero to me. Not the megastar like Mark, but his writing compares.
Agreed.
Your so right.when mark is gone and David Gilmore is gone and Eric Clapton is gone and Brian may is gone who is going to continue what they have done.
When they coined the phrase "make the guitar sing" it was because true artists delivered more emotion through the sound of the insrumentals than through vocals/lyrics. Today music is a lost art.

I just poured that glass of wine you regret the next day, joy borrowed from the next day, but for Mark Knopfler and Emmy Lou it is time well borrowed.

We said goodbye to my dad just over a year ago. He was a massive Dire Straights/Mark Knopfler fan; looking back he probably wanted to be him.. We recently scattered his ashes in his hideaway in Spain and one evening I was sat next to the open bbq alone for a few minutes after a few beers and this version of Romeo and Juliet came on my CZcams and I wished he was there to hear it; being the grumpy old technophobe, I know he wouldn't have heard this version before. What I do know though, having been passed his musical ear and the emotions that go with it, when that guitar tone comes in at 7:25 he would have been sat round that fire with me thinking the exact same thing and how wonderful it is. A lovely memory, and reminded of whenever I listen to it.
I don't think you will read this Mark, but thanks for creating a moment in time.
The pianist is so undervalued. Barely makes it in the video but carries the entire song.
The opening piano is just amazing, I can't stop replaying it
I cannot speak highly enough about this man and those who stand on the stage with him. He is one of the very few artist's who doesn't have the need to stand front and center. He simply doesn't have that kind of ego. He allows those talented folks who back him to shine in their own brilliance. Don't see a great deal of that. Having said that, I'm of the opinion that every note he plays and every lyric he sings are wrapped in such passion and emotion. One does not just listen to his music.....they feel it. He draws me so far into his music and it's a place I choose to stay for a while. Simply my Mark Knopfler loving opinon::)) !! I'm forever grateful for his existence and the beauty he shares with us. He is on a level all his own! Now should I tell you how I really feel about this genius:::))) He shines brilliantly in my eyes.

I’m a generation younger than the true Knopfler era, but I love this with all my heart. He is so understated, the antithesis of the modern age of fame in a second. Just wearing jeans and a shirt, playing phenomenal music. Thank you Mark!
Well said. I endorse those comments wholeheartedly.
Sarah, I think you summed it up completely - he is a genius guitar player and a hero - Great Sky Mcintyre ! X
You are like my son, early twenties.... absolutely loves Knopfler. I taught him well, lol
my dad taught me to love jazz from the 50s and 60s @@Terrx and that was before I was born. I love the rock'n'roll from that era as well, so yeah that theory you describe goes across the generations.
I am
My daughter (19yrs old) says, “ Imagine a man writing a song like this for his women “... she is right. Powerful piece...
Ha! It’s really an incredible piece!
My 8 years daughter makes fun of me with Mike Knofler obsession. I think it will take her few years to love this music
Your daughter is very astute, she does listen with clarify ? It seems...
Your daughter gets it
It would b an amazing thing 2 b loved like that...
"I can't do everything, but I'd do anything for you.
I can't do anything except be in love with you"
I remember when I first heard this song and this lyric specifically.
What an incredible feeling and thought to have for another.
This is the ultimate compliment to give someone.... I hope to feel this way one day.
How a song can reach deep inside you , so much so that words can’t express what music like this does for our souls , what a gift to be able , to give us all these wonderful emotions ❤
Mark Knopfler mastered the paradoxical art of restrained passion. His songs are so cool and understated, yet brimming with passion and emotion. And he's one of the great guitarists of all time.
Great statement!
Great observation....
M. Reid I just read a statement, maybe a Twitter post from Mark that said guitar teachers would hate his own-learned technique. But, he’s obviously a musical genius and mostly self-taught himself to be the maestro that he is. No one will ever play like him.
I would put him up there with Gilmour and Clapton. All Brits by the way. Maybe it's something they put in the water?
Perfectly put. 100%
Probably the greatest love song ever written, by one of the greatest songwriters to ever have lived. Such insight into the human condition, reminds me of the greatest poets and composers of the past. Thanks Mark for what you have given to us.
This is a great song, but my contender for the greatest is Roberta Flack's version of "The first time ever I saw your face".
And he says," I can't write a love song, the way it is meant to be" 😂
Me too powerful song❤
Yes it is a classic love song I just mellt❤
I love this song, I hate this song.
For the love I lost, and the love I found, this song changed me, for the better.
"All I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme." Best line ever written.
For me, Mark is one of the best musicians, we have in the last and this century. He is always on the line, cool as cool can be. No allures, nor drama, no bad stories. Only focused on music, and one of the best guitar players ever. Thaks for the great music, thanks for all the wonderful moments.
So true!
I also think so.
Absolutely. Nothing else to say about this, but thank you for saying what I think 😉
So very well said
Sheer genius!!
when you're in quarantine what’s better than listening to this art ?
Nothing could be better!!!
You can only kiss thru the bars of a rhyme...
Definitely one of my new lists: Songs for the Plague Times.
Natasha Xavier if you wait for the Plague Time, you will not listen to it often
The music I've found once again thank you
Great tune to sing, along with here’s the lyrics;
A lovestruck Romeo sang the streets of serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made
Finds a streetlight, steps out of the shade
Says something like, "You and me, babe, how about it?"
Juliet says, "Hey, it's Romeo, you nearly gave me a heart attack"
He's underneath the window, she's singing, "Hey, la, my boyfriend's back
You shouldn't come around here singing up at people like that
Anyway, what you gonna do about it?"
"Juliet, the dice was loaded from the start
And I bet, and you exploded into my heart
And I forget, I forget the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"
Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame
Both dirty, both mean, yes, and the dream was just the same
And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?
When you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything, you promised me thick and thin, yeah
Now you just say "oh, Romeo, yeah, you know I used to have a scene with him"
"Juliet, when we made love, you used to cry
You said 'I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die'
There's a place for us, you know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"
I can't do the talk like they talk on the TV
And I can't do a love song like the way it's meant to be
I can't do everything but I'd do anything for you
I can't do anything except be in love with you
And all I do is miss you and the way we used to be
All I do is keep the beat and bad company
All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme
Julie, I'd do the stars with you any time
"Juliet, when we made love you used to cry
You said 'I love you like the stars above, I'll love you till I die'
There's a place for us you know the movie song
When you gonna realize it was just that the time was wrong, Juliet?"
And a lovestruck Romeo, he sang the streets of serenade
Laying everybody low with a love song that he made
Finds a convenient streetlight, steps out of the shade
He says something like, "You and me, babe, how about it?
You and me, babe, how about it?"
That piano intro at the beginning makes my heart melt. It's bloody beautiful 🥰
"All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme..."
Such a beautiful line....
This song is an all timer for me and this particular version is near the top!
I always loved that line too…my favorite line from the song
“I’d do the stars for you any time” is a pretty good follow up…
Yes, beautiful line, always loved it
Thanks for this moment Mark.😔
The love of my life , who' s 46, has been in hospital since February 1 after a massive brain bleed caused by an aneurysm rupture. We've been together for 22 happy years and I'm just lost without him. The bleeding affected his eyesight, his walk and he seems to have lost most of his memory ability, so it's almost like our story is now just a blank book. However, when during a video call a nurse asked him who I was, he answered:
"A very special lady..."
My heart melted and I cried.
You will always be my Romeo, Bruno.
I'm home waiting for you.
Beautiful story
@@gabriellagebacha4883 We're waiting for him to go to a physical/speech therapy unit.
I don't know how far the recovery will go but I have hope that with family around him and lots of love things will get better.
All the best Gabriel.
😔 sending you both love and healing... his Juliet ♥️
@@izpozpeeps Thank you so much.❤
I wish you all the love in the world.God bless.
@@saram806 I want to join in ... wishing all the best for both of you. You have got a handful foreigners to wish you well, maybe more will follow. :D
And yes, your voice or - if possible - your presence will be good for him.
One of the most beautiful love songs that have ever been and will ever be composed, painfully beautiful!
His language transcends any time and place, and speaks the universal language… Lyrics and music go straight to heart ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
❤❤❤
If Elvis was the king this guy is God
One of the most talented guitarists and musicians of all time, no doubt about it.
I'm 51 right now but everytime I hear this song I feel like I'm alive again and the world is full of the same magic that it used to have when I was a teenager. Thanks Mark ❣️ for all the incredible moments that you have provided to all of us throughout years, decades......I can't help but crying as I hear the first notes and, for a moment, I believe in life and love again.
im 51
You are alive always loved this song. How about it Andy mc gregor.
❤
Absolutely agree xx
1971 😻
I was driving pre-dawn to an early meeting and heard this for the first time. It was perfect with no cars on road. I was able to find it later that day and I sent it to my cousin Julia and her husband, very much in love. This was their song. She passed away on 2018 and I miss her every day.
R.I.P Julia.
I extend to you my deepest condolences, most profound of blessings and great warmth in the form of a big hug!
I was about 16 back in 1980 when I first heard Straits and Sultans of Swing. I was blown away. Like nothing I had ever heard before and I was hooked. Love Straits, always have and always will.
"All I do is kiss you, through the bars of a rhyme."
Goddamn, that's still a killer line after all these years!
I never knew the line said that until recently and I've heard the song hundreds of times, and then it just hit me, mad how having a bit of time on your hands makes you listen a bit more
real. - classic line, excellent song too. :)
@@elleohai Exploded in my heart
@@imagecarpenter thank you ♥, same to you ;)
but it's -> into* my heart (kaboom )
had a pissing match with someone recently because I was saying what a great line that is too. He insisted it was through the bars of Orion the constellation!
All my failed relationships in the 80s summed up in one bittersweet track. One moves on, but one never forgets, and music takes us right back there like it was just yesterday... Knopfler is one of the few whose solo career surpassed and grew way beyond his rockband existence; his songwriting really blossomed. But this is one from the 80s that I'll never forget...
Same as me bro. "All I do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme"
Been there then
Should go get her bud..Passionate
Resterà nei libri di storia, uno dei brani più meravigliosi di questo grande gruppo musicale.
Been listening to this for the last 30 odd years, they don’t write songs like this anymore. Absolute class xx
I've shed warm tears of joy listening to this majestic performance.
Music should be the real religion of Humanity.
Thank you for these beautiful words 🙏
True, Knopler’s music makes me forget everything else and smile. It is beautiful n magical.
What a nice and kind sentiment...
So beautifully said
AMEN
My late wife loved Dire Straits and this song was one of her favorites. Our love lasted 28 years before she died of ovarian cancer after eight years of struggle trying to beat that fucking disease.I truly loved her until the day she died. I did find love again. Her best friend told me that she knew I’d meet someone else if she died. I look at the stars and realize none of us lasts forever. We had our time and I cherish that. She was sweet and caring and st times bitterly funny. She put up with my ADHD. Before she passed I apologized to her for my imperfections and assured her that I was always faithful and loved her dearly. Honestly that’s all any of us can do. Like Romeo and Juliet. Flaws and all.
May she rest in peace
jeez man I admire ya, RIP
Thank u for sharing your love story.
Glad you loved your wife, that you were with her in good and bad, health and sickness. And that you found love again. Keep enjoying music.
❤
Heaven must consist of listening to this song over and over again… Thanks eternally Mark for your celestial creativity 🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏👏🫶
@fernandojorgerenart2638 Well, there's usually good news, and bad news...... the bad news is......there's is no bad news, 'cos when you die, your dead! and that's it.... no 'awareness', no 'sucking up' to a mythical entity, no anything!
The good news is that Mark is here with us for a while longer, and every bit of his work is to his credit, and his alone...he didn't need 'celestial help', he did it all by himself, and crediting your 'imaginary friend' with any involvement, is to diminish Marks incredible abilities... Fortunately, his work will live on through the power of........... wait for it...... no, not your mythical god, but one man's ingenuity and the power of the internet !! ps. As good as the song is, I think even Mark would consider hearing his song in an endless loop for an eternity, to become the ultimate torture, 'cos he's far too creative.....
I love playing it over and over again because the song is beautiful. My girlfriend woke up. Stormed out of the bedroom and told me..."if you play that song one more time..." 😊
THAT PIANO!!! Who is that genius behind it? Such perfectly arranged accents (besides the intro). What a joy to listen to❤
I believe its Matt Rollings
@@kindredsheep you are 100% correct. Thx a lot!🤗
This is a symphony of modern music, Knopfler is a genius.
Mark’s finger pick and down strum style is so boss and unique. The greatest player ever who never used a pick
how he achieves such a sharp attack, especially with the fleshy part of his thumb is amazing...sizzling staccato, you would swear he has a thumb pick...Astounding musician, brilliant songwriter, he's one of the few where the guitar and human body meld into one cohesive musical force...
