My mom was a big fan, she died same day as Leonard. That was her kind of humor.
So.. we played this song for her last farewell.
Toni sorry for losing your mom on this sad day. What an excellent song to have playing at her service.Only consolation is we will all be together again.... someday
Aaw sorry bro
May She rest in peace! Hopefully, She is attending Mr. Cohen's concert somewhere at this very moment.
Sorry about your mum ... May her soul rest in peace

In 2024 Leonard Cohen is still a music genius. No likes requested.
100% brother. Not just music tought. His poetic prowess is something out of this era, literally.
Mr. Cohen was a tortured soul while here on Earth; suffering extreme prolonged bouts of depression. So, I sincerely say: Thank you for the beautiful music and rest in peace Leonard.
you could tell he went through a lot I his life. when he sings it's as if he's closing the book on his own life. give it one final effort.

Agreed. I could always relate to him because I feel the same way...a tortured soul.... I am a very reflective person, an idealist which makes it hard for me to be in this place call life..the planet.. Years ago I watched his DVD in Tibet, must have watched it 20+ times trying to gain understanding.. I often revisit his clips on his honest dialog about living with depression ... I trust that death is easier than living... living is hard.... Hope he is resting...
My husband bought tickets for us to see Leonard Cohen in Milwaukee for Valentine's Day in 2013. It is one of my favorite memories. My husband died on May 20, 2021 and my world will never be the same.

Do not mourn that he is no more; celebrate that He was.
Sir, that is a gorgeous quote. I'm afraid I must steal it to spread it in hopes of its intent being conveyed to greater numbers. My apologies and thanks.
He still is. He went "home" - that "tomorrow" finally came.
Not only that he was--He was as few other people have ever been. Now that is something to celebrate.

Leonard Cohen despite his fame, didnt have much money. When he was in Australia during our catastrophic bushfires a few years ago, he donated every cent he was paid to the Bushfire Appeal. NO fuss, no publicity, he just did it.

I'm over this year. Heaven must have one hell of a band.
Just found out today that my best friend & her husband both want this played for their memorial.
This will be one of the 3 songs played at my Funeral.
This song is good with or without a good voice, a true musical genius this was.
Exactly. Cohen didn't have best voice ever. His voice was very imperfect. But he was singing really emotionally and deep - that made awesome effect! In my opinion - there is no cover better than that song, even if cover is sung technically better! :D
There are very few male vocalists who can give me goosebumps not to mention tears to my eyes. That in my opinion is the mark of a true singer. What one must do is determine for oneself what constitutes a "good voice". It's not just technical ability, it is primarily where that voice is coming from.
Neither was Johnny Cash's, but that doesn't detract from either being a legend.
well said...
Probably because dawg disagrees with your opinion, and feels that you shouldn't be allowed one. That attitude is rampant in today's society. I too, disagree with you completely, but nevertheless, feel that you have the right to be wrong, lol.

A great song, a terrible man!!
When I heard that he was going on his “final tour” (ha ha) I got myself to Copenhagen. I even booked into the same hotel as his party. And one morning there he was sharing a coffee with his colleague. I rushed out to the nearest bookshop to get a copy of his latest book. As it happened there was a long line of people waiting to pay for their books (not Cohen’s). I was worried I would miss out on getting him to sign (back at the hotel). I yelled out “Excuse me, I need to get this book back for Leonard Cohen to sign”. Well, the crowd moved aside and applauded. They all loved Cohen. Most were in their 30s. I finally got back and sheepishly approached him. (My partner had already scalded me for invading his privacy). I apologised and introduced myself, explaining I had travelled from Sydney to be at his concert. I asked if he would sign the book for my daughter who was also a fan. THIS IS WHERE THE REAL COHEN SURFACED. He softly asked the name of my daughter. Then he took the book and settled it on the table, smoothing its pages flat. Slowly, he reached into his jacket for his fountain pen. Removing the cap, he looked up with a smile and asked the name of my daughter. He spelt it out to me to make sure. Then he commenced the artwork. He didn’t just write, he drew. The drawing was words but the art was in how he did it. You see, some art is not captured on paper or sculptures, or even performed. It is simply how you live. He gave me a spirit.
You gotta be a Dane I thought when I read that your partner had "scalded" you, lol! God dag til dig.Interesting encounter by the way and an appropriately zen way of interpreting the interaction.
Beautiful memory!

“ You see, I used to live alone before I knew you.” Even though I was raised to believe in God, I always had times in my life where I felt so alone. Then in 2003 at the time the war in Iraq began, I heard a sermon that finally took my heart and melded it with God. I finally recognized that I was never alone, at 44 I became fully born again. This verse of the song always brings tears to my eyes, along with the image of David writing Hallelujah’s, one of the most powerful words ever written. Praise Ja all you people.
What you have written is quite poetic and moving. Thank you.

Such a shame that this man has passed away. May you rest in Peace Sir. The original and best version IMHO
It's a masterpiece of love and understanding. What a voice!
His original version in 1984 sounds different, but he kept working with it and found the song in time. This version is my favorite and better than the hundreds of covers that have been made. I believe most of those performers don't understand the real meaning. Leonard said this isn't a joyful song, but it comes from a sadder place with a certain amount of resilience to still rejoice even when the spirit is broken.
Richard Burchett That's my definition of a happy song! Be attuned with the experienc of grace no matter the circumstances. But I've been around six decades so far. That's what I learned.
The best version♥️♥️♥️

So long, Leonard.

+Sidney Oreilly Its like saying give it to God BC he lost his strength in faith, like back sliding, like if u see your brother or sister in Christ, whose broken the covenant of God ( Broken Hallehluah ) instead of judging you go to God and pray for them sacredly to God.
Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is a song full of depth and ambiguity. With poetic metaphors, it explores the complexity of love and being human.
It explores the highs and lows of interpersonal relationships. Romance and passion go hand in hand with disappointment and loss. Spiritual and biblical motifs reflect the search for meaning and transcendence.
"Hallelujah" is an ode to the contradictory nature of our feelings - joy and pain, ecstasy and doubt. Cohen looks compassionately at our longings and our vulnerability.
The song is an appeal to embrace life in all its facets. He invites us to face the darkness and yet sing of the light. From loss can come gratitude, from doubt can be born faith.
The timeless resonance of "Hallelujah" lies in this multi-layered message. Every person can find something of their own in it, draw comfort and hope. A moving hymn to the beauty and pain of being human

The words are beautiful, always were. His heartfelt rendition are beyond it, we're the lucky ones who have them immortalized for us to listen to. Another traveler has moved on.
He was a genius. All that listen is inspired
Love the melody of this most powerful song, sung Leonard Cohen.
뒤늦게 그를 알게 되었지만 이분의 노래는 많은 위안을 주는군요! 훌륭한 재능의 예술가 ! 위대하다
I first heard Leonard Cohen in1971, and I'm still listening. I'm nearly 70 now and his songs still move me like they did all those years ago
Me too, till the day I die too.
I'm also nearly 70 and his songs also still move me like they did when I was younger. Take care vk flynn.
That makes at least four of us; I too. almost 70 and still enjoying his music...timeless.
I’m 13 and also enjoy this song
@@BennyDV9 you got great taste at an early age.
I discovered Mr. Cohen far too late in my life, when he was about to leave us, but I have been ever since a true fan of his deep, fascinating voice and his gangster-like look wearing those old fashioned hats that were his trademark...We'll never forget you, Mr. Cohen. Argentina is still mourning over you !
Well said Linda, I've been a fan since Suzanne, his first hit, yet found his later performances, and especially Hallelujah, to be even better than his early work.
