    The T8i might be a good beginner camera? Let's see.... when the T2i came out, it was touted as being a great beginner to intermediate camera. The T8i dwarfs the T2i in specs and it also exceeds the specs and capabilities of many intermediate to pro level cameras during the T2i era. So if the T8i exceeds cameras capabilities that were considered intermediate to pro , how is this considered a beginner camera now? Photography does not have a constant sliding scale that is dictated by gear and it might be nice to hear reviewers talk about the gear without trying to influence us as to what we should buy, especially since if you are a true beginner, their are a ton of older models,new and used, that should probably be considered for beginner if for no other reason than price. The T8i is packed with features and looks to be a great camera, but it is not a beginner camera unless you have plenty of cash to toss out for this as a "first" dslr. If you give your child a Canon R5 as their first camera, it doesn't make the R5 a beginner camera based on features..only in that this is their first camera.If the sliding scale theory were true...pro's could not longer shoot with the 5 mark III or IV, they would have to use the R5 and God forbid you shoot with a film camera.

    The t8i is the 80D rebadged. They did a few software updates and allowed 4k 24p recording on the t8i. (the 80D recorded 1080 60p). But the sensor and auto focus are the same. Canon took the form factor of the t series and merged the internals of the 80D into it.

    I remember before I understood how Canon named and numbered thier cameras. I felt like my newly bought Canon T3i in 2012 was pretty top of the line. Well for the Rebels series it was. Because it was the newest. I remember chaperoning my sons field trip to Zoo America that Soring and another parent. She had a Canon 60D. I thought I had the higher end model. I was wrong. Years later I discovered she did. Although the basic specs were the same. She had a more robust and better built camera body. The only reason my specs were close to the 70D back then is because the 60D came out in August 2010. The T3i was a newer camera and was released 6 months later. Before that the T2i was the norm. But I've noticed this trend of cheaper cameras getting some features the older pro models had. I use a 90D. I also own a 5D mark III. The 90D feels like a perfect hybrid of my T3i and 5D mark III. I love the increased 32.5MP sensor and 4K video. But I love having that Joy stick back. I love the full frame sensor of the 5Dm3. But started wanting a crop sensor again to artificially extend my zoom lens a bit further. I also wanted a DSLR that could auto focus ffg or video like a camcorder. I feel like my 90D is the perfect camera for me at this time. If anything I did have the 80D before I sold it. I feel like the T8i more closely feels like the Rebel version of the 80D. Just like my T3i and the 60D were very simular. The main reason I'm watching this video is to get a better look hopefully of the mini thumb wheel on thos camera. They had one on the T6s.

    I had both the Canon T6i and T7i before upgrading to the Canon 90D, and I can tell you that the T8i is definitely not a 90D killer, which I realized after looking at the T8i specs while searching for a camera to pair with the 90D. However, the T8i is a viable option for those who want something that kind of approaches the 90D but don't have the budget.

      The Reel Raymond I got 90D as well and it’s a BEAST of a camera I would call it the baby EOS R or maybe the EOS R killer ( since the 90D has no crop in 4K and 120fps)

    • @TheReelRaymond
      @TheReelRaymond Před 4 lety +1

      @@PassionPainNDemonsStreetwear There's some truth to this. An EOS R user who commented on my recent 90D video mentioned his surprise about how sharp the 90D images are. This coming from the user of a camera that is supposed to be the sharpest due to its RF glass.

      It's weird to me how the T8i is now available.. WITH a lens kit. Pretty much everyone has them to sell now. BUT< the T8i BODY ONLY is backordered and no release date in sight.
      I'm like, one has a lens, the other doesn't. Why is it such a big deal to be able to release body only!? haha (I already have efs lenses, so that's why i'm stubborn on the T8i & not going BMPCC 6k)
      In the end, I ended up buying the 90d. The sensor is bigger (thus slightly better "quality" but better low light resolution) & there is NO CROP in 4k video!!!!!! (Unlike T8i or especially SL3). And I have seen nothing but rave reviews for the 90d.
      My only wish is that magic lantern would put out a hack with aspect ratio crop marks (2.4:1) and I'm wondering how difficult it would be for them to turn that UHD (3840 x 2160) open up to DCI 4096 x 2160. That'd be beyond awesome until I can get a a portable recorder or a BMPCC6k (w/ raw). Unfortunately I don't see that happening.
      I can't wait for my 90d to arrive in the mail! This feels like christmas to me! haha I'm finally moving out of HD territory. Now if only they'd send a 2nd stimuluis check so I can buy a 2nd 90d (faster for coverage & better for when actors are improvising albeit a less dynamic lighting setup)

      I think eos850d/T8i is better than M50 for those who do plane spotting and wildlife photography (That aps-c's 1.6x gives more range) . M50 would be better value for landscape and video. The choice comes down to what you want to use your camera for.

  • @johnleighdesigns
    @johnleighdesigns Před 4 lety +1

    Great to see your review of this camera and 90D as both are on my mind for updating my trusty old canon 700D (T5i ) - Saving £300 on 850D (T8i) means a new lens as a bonus but would I miss the 90D headphone jack and uncropped 4k? I prefer the lighter weight of the T8i and the 24 megapixels seems a good bet rather than smaller pixels on the 90D 32 megapixel sensor and its larger file sizes. Hard to weigh up what I might need for the future but if image and video quality is the same its not easy to justify paying more for the 90D - if you do end up doing review of T8i that would be fab and most helpful!

    I think one of the main differences between the 90D and the t8i (and SL3) is the 1.7X Crop factor. The 90D doesn’t have it. Makes the 90D so much more worth it. But what pissed me off is they didn’t have a 24fps 4K mode on the 90D! The t8i and SL3 both shoot 4K in 24fps!!! But then it’s cropped! Ugh!

    Got to call you one one point you make. The autofocus on the 90D when using the optical viewfinder is simply terrible when it comes to fast moving subjects such as birds in flight. 90D forums are simply filled with people struggling with this issue. It's fine with stationary subjects.
    Even with really high quality lenses the 90D simply cannot focus reliably. So if Canon have put the same autofocus system in this new camera people should be wary.

    • @cedricjamesjr1
      @cedricjamesjr1 Před 3 lety

      My 90D works great while using the optical viewfinder matter of fact I use it more than the live view mode... what I really would want to know is the frame rate of the T8i HDMI output can't find anything any where in this. T8i 4k crop and contrast based auto focus.... no thanks. If you have the extra money you better spend it to get the proper dual pixel auto focus with no additional crop in 4k. Skip the T8i and get the 90D if you are focused on video.

    • @adamsmith6594
      @adamsmith6594 Před 2 lety

      The optical view finder issue was resolved via canon techs. You need the best canon glass. Else the 32 mp sensor is just too good and you have resolving issues. Certain lenses are terrible on the 90d like the 100-400 mk1.

      I'm in the process of replacing my 700D with either 850D or 90D. After studying for a while based on my needs and budget, 90D wins. It's more expensive but it will serve and satisfy my needs longer. Lenses, I'll work on them as time goes by, again it's all based on needs and discoveries of the self. Lenses is not a big issue to possess.
      People asked me why not a mirrorles which is smaller and lighter? My answer is simple and firm, "I need a camera that is big in my hands, heavy and noisy, and I like tripods too". CZcams sent a mass email today saying you can now monetize videos mentioning Covid 19 as long as they meet CZcams's guidelines. They sent that email today. This video came out weeks ago. But yeah I'm a clown I don't know anything I just put on my stupid bowling shoes and makeup and write crovid 16 on my chest and waltz around hoping for monetizaysh ya know man am I rite??
