  • After spending a week deep-diving into Assetto Corsa Competizione, I came back to my long-time favourite sim, only to find its charms resonating more strongly than ever.
    What other racing sims would you like to see covered on this channel? Gran Turismo? Forza? BeamNG? iRacing? Assetto Corsa Competizione? rFactor 2? Raceroom Racing Experience? Automobilista 2?

A question for you, you mentioned some rally sims in the video, would you say that Richard burns rally or some of it's mods are still the best rally sim? Just played rf2 for the first time yesterday. Most amazing feeling thing I've ever come across in my life when it comes to simulated racing. Flat-spotted my tired one lap and felt it in the wheel! Just the most accurate feeling race sim I've ever experienced. I'll have to try this combo out!

      Big deal, even the original Assetto Corsa has FFB effect for flat spots.
      Also, in AC you can't drive a GT car through the sand without losing any speed, the ability to do that in rf2 is NOT a positive point. And so far in AC I haven't seen the bottom of the cars go through the track surface like they do in this video.
      But ACC isn't as good as AC anyway.

I've spent the most of my last week's driving time on Nords, which I think has been recently optimised. Rf2 AI are the best. Only in Rf2 have I been so immersed as to start to step out of the cockpit to fully road-rage-punch the other driver after an open wheeler tangle... only to be jerked back to reality by my headset cable! AMS2 has a certain something in the driving still but doesnt come close in the offline racing or track selection. • @Robdgnl
    @Robdgnl Před 4 lety +23

    rF2 and ACC are so close in FFB quality that it really boils down to personal preference. rF2 adds a lot of forces into the wheel you don't feel feel in a real racing car, and it does communicate those forces extremely well. ACC has opted to go for a more, dare I say, realistic feel in the wheel, where oversteer for instance isn't felt (like it is in real life, you feel it in your 'behind', not in the wheel). I switch back and forth between ACC and rF2 quite often, and can just say how happy I am I have two sims with excellent FFB with enough minor differences to keep things interesting. Now all I need is for AMS2 to actually offer some content I care about...

    • @Ermz
      @Ermz  Před 4 lety +5

      Can't wait to try ACC with a full motion rig. That should fill in the oversteer blanks.

    • @Doing_The_Thing
      @Doing_The_Thing Před 4 lety

      Ermin Hamidovic motion definitely helps you feel what isn’t coming through on the FFB. Even with motion, I’d say tactile is the final piece of the puzzle for driving at the limit.
      Whenever I drive and forget to turn the buttkicker on, I can immediately tell something is missing.
      For reference: using Accuforce DD wheel, Next Level V3 motion platform, buttkicker Gamer2 transducer.

    • @MadMaxBLD
      @MadMaxBLD Před 4 lety +1

      I don't know about ACC being close to rF2 FFB-wise. I find it very irritating that as I enter a corner in ACC and push the car a bit, the wheel starts going progressively emptier until I feel nothing, simulating understeer by turning the forces off. That ain't right and neither rF2 nor AMS2 do this. This "empty FFB on understeer" effect is very old and I'm disappointed ACC doesn't have more communicative FFB about what the tires are doing in a corner. I run a T300RS BTW.

    • @Doing_The_Thing
      @Doing_The_Thing Před 4 lety

      MadMaxBLD are you using a LUT file? I was unhappy with the FFB on a TS-XW until enabling / using a LUT file and also raising the minimum force to ~7. Worth a shot

    • @TheAmbasadaRecords
      @TheAmbasadaRecords Před 4 lety

      Maybe it's matter of your settings? I definitely can catch even small glimpses of oversteer on T300RS in ACC. Switch off wheel damping in wheel and game options.

      RF2 has always been league based so if public servers is your thing or what you had been taught then looks elsewhere.
      There is so much league racing going on you wouldn't have enough spare time for it.

      @@t8365 The sim is constantly evolving.
      Like I said there's a competition system in the works, now that the new UI has been launched.
      Also the economics are going to change.
      A few months ago there was not a single paid DLC in RF2.
      So they started being released and with the COVID situation turning things into a race the paid DLCs kept coming out at a fast rate.
      This created this messy situation that is already being addressed, with all the cars now being added into multi-car DLCs etc, it is a situation that is not intended to be like it is and is going to be improved on.

    I bought it during the Steam sale. It has the new Zandvoort layout and a Radical. Good deal! I really like how you can balance the Radical on the edge using the brakes and throttle. The physics model is great. I could feel that immediately from the feedback I got from my motion simulator. No tuning required. I could drive it on the egde in a few laps thanks to great FF and motion physics. One of the most 'authentic' sensations. But it highly depends on the car and track details. I still like Assetto Corsa very much (everything can be tuned to perfection). Not a fan of ACC however; the GT cars feel 'sterile'.

    Completely agree here. As much as I love ACC, which happens to be my main sim of choice, rFactor 2's handling is just on another level. After playing RF2 for an hour or 2 and then switching back to ACC the steering / ffb just feels so dead and numb. It's insane the amount of detail they're able to put through the wheel in this game. I still go to ACC for my favorite circuits / multiplayer but when I want an insane driving experience I hop in RF2. And whenever I have people over that want to try out the sim rig RF2 is what I fire up for them. RF2's VR is also fantastic as well and runs super smooth. I had to do quite a bit of tweaking to ACC's VR to get it run right (and I'm on a 2080 super / i7-7700K @5ghz / 32gb RAM). These 2 games are basically what take up all of my free time outside of guitar / production.

    Regarding what Ermin mentioned about Americans making phenomenal road circuits, it's dumbfounding to me that they have several awesome road courses that see so little use in major series. I would pay a lot of money to see NASCAR at Lime Rock Park or IndyCar on the full layout at Watkins Glen, or even IMSA or Indy heading north of the border to race at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. There are so many great circuits which could easily be considered among the best in the world, but they just haven't been fit into a regular spot on schedules that revolve heavily around oval races.

    Wow, that track looks so unfinished (the track itself, not the mod, lol) - I love it! I definitely have to add that to my inventory...
    The one thing that has continued to draw me to rF2 since I picked it up again (last drove it before Studio 397 took it over) is that I can FEEL the car when it's at its limit, and if you back off a bit, you can easily regain control - and I'm still driving with my ancient Logitech G25! I can only imagine what this must feel like with a modern wheel that has much better fidelity. The biggest common issue with other sims I've tried (including ACC) is that you get to a point where you've lost grip, and NOTHING you do gets you that grip back... That "endless slide" syndrome. Sure, I've lost the car a couple of times in rF2, but in situations/areas with enough tarmac, you eventually get some grip back, and you can continue on. With "endless slide", you pretty much have to wait for the car to come to a stop.

    • @mikke73
      @mikke73 Před 4 lety

      Try original AC, I've regained control from slides more times than I can remember. As far as I know it generally has better feel than ACC, although I have not tried ACC myself - too narrow focus.

    Well, no words are better about RFactor 2.
    Rfactor 2 is a father, stubbornly not wanting new stuffs that can make himself better, yet his experience changes him instead.
    You don't feel fun with him at first, in fact you will despise him, but later on in your journey, you starts to gain more respect about him, regardless you feel fun with him or not.
    I can go on about this metaphore, but you guys know.
    This game ultimately inspires most sim that we all love and play today, yet the very existence of Rfactor 2 in today's world really felt something special, something you don't get playing other sims.
    IMHO, despite all the shortness of Rfactor 2, it truly are the game that makes me feel like a racecar driver the most.( Sidenote: Studio 397, go on with Rfactor 3 already)
    Sorry for the long text.

Rf2 makes my day all the time .
    It would be great to do the Title with a kind of an AC CM and tweak the Graphics up with something like SOl and CSP.
