Been saying this for what feels like months now. RF2 has always been hamstrung by its lack of online support and UI. The UI is getting better, I mean, since 2018, it's night and day. And the online system, its just game-changing. It's fantastic to hear someone echoing my thoughts on all this. Cheers!

It's a really solid base now for rf2 to grow into the de facto sim king it's always had the potential to be.
@@johnduncan5117 oh no, I meant months of RF2 Online. I've been preaching the greatness of RF2 since I migrated from Project Cars 2 and the first gen Formula E's. After driving on those awful tyres, I was hooked. And when the 650S came to the game, well, I mean, how do you not love it?
@@EikeSky I see ! Well I can say I've been playing rf2 for ages despite its shortcomings. I used to play AC. I actually agree with everything GM says about AC except when he says it handles better than rf2. It's also a great sim, especially using SRS for online and the patches and content manager etc. But rf2 is the most engaging driving feeling for me. It's personal choice at the end of the day though!

@@johnduncan5117 how’s the participation on SRS for AC? I live in the states and in the evenings there’s still not enough people on RF2 or LFM. The only option for me to have full lobbies would be Iracing but I don’t want to pay for a game I don’t enjoy as much
Fun is key. Just bought rFactor2 and i love it in 2D and VR . Love the daily races. The FFB is fantastic. What more could i want ?

I recently had an intense race on AC with Group C cars and I'm so impressed by how close the cars can get without any netcode issues. I'm talking hairline distance.

Man, the Radical drives like the F14T, sliding on both axles. And the M2 CS handles like a tuk-tuk, as if it’s on one wheel
Same. Started SIM racing on AC and can't enjoy how other SIMs feel. Especially rF2 and AMS2. AC makes sense.. others are like turning from the middle and sliding around. @@grigorioschristodoulou5229

I reported a driver last week and I received a mail from s397 saying they thank me for the report and they penalized the bad driver ❤
I agree about GT3 not every hour but maybe every 2 hours.
A championship system would be also great.
a potential reason for the non fixed setups (for the gt's at least) is that there is quite a large pace disparity between cars on default. mainly the newer content being usually a couple of tenths to even a second with some cars. so for most races it would turn into a bmw m4 cup

You are the reason I reinstalled this game. I tried it for about 10 minutes a couple years ago and it was just a pain so I uninstalled. I'm am an iracing fan boi so I get triggered by some of your comments lol. But after driving rf2, then iracing, then acc, I came to realize you are correct on the ffb. Iracing feels like poop compared to the other 2. But I want to race online and no one but I racing can figure out how to do it which is really just sad. This is a huge improvement and I'm willing to give it a go as the feels you get through the wheel is really nice. Thanks for the great video. Maybe someday you'll get me to reinstall ac1. But with 14 add-ons to download just for it not to suck and no one racing online I feel it's a waste of time for the experience I'm looking for. Lfm coming in to fix kunos lack of online development does not give me hope for ac2. Just my 2 cents.

One of the worst cars in the game as it feels and drives terrible in comparison to other official cars. Makes no sense for a newer car.

Sometimes a content creator on twitch rents a server for an hour on rfactor2 to play with their subscribers. It's a very entertaining option, I've played and enjoyed it a lot
I've been loving the CS system on RF2. I'm an original user of RF2 since 2012 and this has been the biggest jump since then. We now have great on line racing to complement the most authentic physics and best FFB of any sim.
I regret getting to the end of the video. I did not pass out, but I got a couple of red drops from my nose. Still, I do NOT regret getting rfactor 2 for a coffee's worth of money and I am looking forward to racing touring cars! There's actually a great pack with a bunch of cars and tracks for cheap, thanks for the heads up!
Yep with this move S397 and MG have brought RF2 to its full potential, with still a few hiccups to solve or add, and a "Career Ladder" thingy to activate "soon"... but for now at least the daily races and special events have been real treats. I just hope the upcoming "crowds" will keep the same spirit :)
But boy, as I was watching your vid, I was remembering all that has been accomplished since Grand Prix 2 (was about 18yo at the time, dreaming of what it could become in my-then's future), I couldn't even have imagined that it could be looking like it looks today, even in this YT vid (with all the comp/decomp process required to stream it and all...). Besides, I never understood those who prefer to get some kind of blurry things on the sides of their screen (giving them only an illusion of speed), rather than the marvelous crispiness of rf2's 3D. With an I7/GF3060Ti/32GB RAM on 1440p of vertical resolution, I got every graphic option maxed out and it's flawless in terms of fluidity on the tracks (I mean even in the online competition system), and to my eyes at least, it's pretty much beautiful and above all realistic, in particular in the way it reacts to the differences in sunlight, the occlusions, dawn and dusk, the "night tracks", rainy days, "dream away..." :)
Next step February 20th for Le Mans Ultimate! ;) Geee...! Between those 2 and the latest WRC on the rally front, and the upcoming seasons of IRL main motorsports, 2024/2025 are going to be some kind of pinnacle years or golden age of something... :)

I've been away for a couple years as my cpu / gpu just couldn't keep up anymore. Finally upgraded and holy shit. AC ACC RF2 RR for starters. OMG the racing / environment / technology / graphics OMG. Even the AI pushes you around now. This is unbelievable. Like a kid in a candy store...
Agree with you re: RF2’s GT3 cars! The GTE LMP2 LMP3 & (especially) the BTCC are amazing too.
Anyone else struggling to click with the Indycar or Vanwall? I simply struggle with those 2 atm sadly

As a rotting corpse I’ll say I am also enjoying RF2 a lot it’s kinda why I’m not renewing my iRacing currently as it’s a good middle ground of close racing and quality matchmaking!
Regretfully I made it all the way to the end. I agree with you, James. The M2 is not particularly "real", but rF2 is certainly fun to drive.

I Got 3 months of iracing membership to try it out before comitting for a two year period if i liked it. When Black friday appeared (14 days into my First signup to iracing) I asked if they would allow me to do two years on The new sign up deal. They refused. I honestly dont Think its resonable to expect people to sign up for a two year membership to a gane they never tried. Anyways im glad there are other options out there because as a result no cars or Tracks purchased on iracing and it made my decision to leave iracing for other options Easy.

My Only thing with the online is being Beginner Intermediate and Advanced series, would rather have your bronze series that all run every hour, Silver Series the same and a Gold Series, and maybe have fixed and Open in Silver and Gold. And a Schedule for the next 2/3 Weeks at least
So last time I played rf2 it was necessary to own the full pack of cars to race a gt3 race for example, are you telling now that with one you can enter? That's good news if true, it was something it pissed me off a lot due to I only race with one car so why to pay for another 10 I've never use.

I got rFactor 2 last year and the full 2022 DLC pack. I'm now looking at the IMSA and WEC tracks, the Oreca LMP2 and maybe the Corvette GTE. Possibly the McLaren GT3 too. Considering I could get all that for around the same as a year's iRacing subscription I think it's the way to go. It looks like you're racing at Lime Rock here but I don't see that as one of the available tracks on rFActor 2?
Lime Rock is in RF2. Make sure to select all tracks and cars in the menu

Anyone who currently rents IRacing and has a go of this will have to cut their nose off to spite their face, not too admit they have eventually found the correct driving sim.

I know it's a lot to ask for a sim racing game to provide a whole, polished, complete and coherant package for both single and multiplayer but it would be nice if they can fix the AI too.

Had four races so far in the beta and I will admit I like it. Just wish it was a little less of a mess with so much stuff setup on a keyboard as not everyone has access to one while racing. Trying to figure out what was what amd what was really needed mapping controls to the wheel was a pain.
Having said that I can see me spending more time racing RFactor2 now getting online races is far more simple.
There is a million videos on "how to set up RF2", what keybinds you need etc etc. BUT I totally agree. A game shouldn't require wiki's and CZcams guides to get ready to race.
There is already a button mapping for flashing lights on rf2!

I don't know if my brain just deleted all memories before the last iRacing patch, and I don't race that often (maybe once a week), but I feel like they've _almost_ fixed the overdriving/grass/spinning out issues. Feels like night and day to me anyway.
They dixed the grass few months back , the tire model is still nothing like anynother sim / gets stuck over limit if you lean on them in any way.

The biggest difference for me with rF2 and iRacing is that in rF2 I can really feel what the car is doing and react to it.
In iRacing, I have to know what the car will do before I do it - it's almost like driving from memory - and - as I have the memory of a goldfish that never ends well.
What about ACC then?

@@unotoli ACC has a huge issue when ABS kicks in.. idk if a gear with vibration transmit it... but with by CSL wheel and my TCL-M pedals I don't know If I will make the corner.... sometimes I brake, and the cars just go straighrt... is super anoying.
What's the UI like? Also, why ACC doesn't have this is beyond me :S

I love Rf2 now I started playing because of your beta Video a month back have its all I play Now. I know First hand The reporting system works Now look I a few races from platinum or whatever safety rating But I had a few racing where some guy kept pitting me in the Corners I Lost it after 3 races and Found him and torpedoed him into space. Im not proud Of losing it but taking him out felt good after he ruined 3 races in a row . The next day I had a 7 day ban. Other then that The racing has been amazing with More tracks then monza or spa

Man. AC It's a good game thanks to the modders who work on it. I can assure you that RF2 has very good track and car mods too, but it didn't have the same luck as AC

If motorsport games wants to attract and rise rF2 players, they need to heavily discount all rF2 cars, tracks and packs much more often like 2 years ago, not just some really spare ones.
At least, bring back the 50% discount on all carpacks and trackpacks (on actual steam sales only GT3 carpack is 50% discounted). This could help their bad finances too.
So far only the ex BTCC complete pack got a nice full price (8 cars, 4 tracks, 3 seasons), but let's be honest, if discounted by -25% now could be more appelling to potential buyers.
And brick back rF2 demo, taken off on november 2022.
From one side, i'll glad if motorsport games will be gone since they're only good on waste money (the indycar exclusive license was imho the top notch of stupidity, expecially when 2022 fiscal year was a disaster): this short term view has proved why they're on high risk waters with the recent second NASDAQ Notice of Delisting.
from the other, i'll be sad for Studio397 wich is doing is job and it's not their fault if motorsport owners are bad...

rF2 has great physics. Unfortunately, it is very heavy on the PC, thus I gave up it. I have a Lenovo Legend 5 and run it with the lowest graphic settings, it stutters with AI. I hope won't do that in MP, if I give another try. Thanks for the video.

Solution b) go to the workshop and subscribe to one piece of content (or more, if you want to).
In general, it's the steam workshop, that is preventing rF2 from starting the first time.
i tried the game messing with settings just to get my fanatec wheel to work eventually gave up uninstalled it... should just work... especially on common setups like fanatec...
Had this happened 1 or 2 or 3 years ago I'd be all over this, but now I'm fully committed to iRacing and it's kinda hard to come back. Simply the smaller userbase will always be an hindrance in too many different ways, and I just had too many bad experiences with the little quirks of this game over time, even if it drives great. I also still think the HUD looks so ugly it actually stops me from wanting to race, as dumb as that sounds
I've thrown away £500+ and subs at IRacing in the last 3 year. Not renewing when it runs out next year. At what point do you let go of the rope of a rising balloon!

But why, if VR players say it’s the cats meow, do we not see sim racing channels like yourself and countless others sim racing content creators using VR when playing the games…?
It’s almost like it’s a paid advertisement from vr companies to content creators to push their new products, as it comes and goes like the weather… just curious on someone’s honest take on this…is it truly hype and gimmick, or truly a game changer…again I see you sim racers use them for a week tops when products come out, and then never hear or see them again…. Most CZcamsrs will have a process for getting content recording game then moving that and editing it , VR just adds more steps and complexity that is only good for the VR player but not for person watching the video.

Problem is the tracks or lack thereof. Rf2 has some super mod tracks (eg Road Atlanta) but they cant be used on this system. "licensing" is the bane of simracing....

For acc you need a beefy pc to run it well. Rf2 is not that expensive for the base content to give it a go.
They are not really comparable games. ACC is a closed GT simulator only and rF2 is an open, moddable simulator with tons of free stuff (open wheel, GT, historics) on the Steam Workshop. That said, this new ranked multiplayer can use only official content either in the base game or DLC. There are community servers which are free to run whatever content they want.

i just couldnt get along with the FFB for some reason. also the UI OMFG... on VR it was so terrible. everything was a pain in the ass, like moving the mirrors angle, and i dont think i could move the mirrors themselves or zoom out the UI so i dont have to move my whole neck al lthe time to click on stuff. rip

But considering the possibility to report people very easily and immediatedly - hence getting rid of acute anger -, together with the unknown process and consequencies, if there are any, to be a positive implementation of that feature is "fan boyish" ridiculous in my eyes..
I have no idea what you are trying to say.
Being able to fast report people is great
The developer then uses an algorithm that will make it easier to find people that consistently wreck races.
A person with a ton of reports from different other people is more likely to be a wrecker.
Once you see a person with way more reports than others you then check to see if they are wrecking and then take action.

I agree that it's bothering to report people in iRacing, but I also think that there is a positive side to it. So people do have to be serious about reporting someone and not just basically click report in the heat of the moment.. And also it's proofen that reports in iRacing are indeed followed up by humans processing it and taking consequencies. If and how that works in rFactor yet has to be seen I think... I just have an issue with praising a feature which is completely unknown to actually work at all...
I like rF2 but the biggest problem with this system for me is that there is not that many official tracks, especially the ones I like for eg Road America or Watkins Glen aren't here

All content used in Race control needs to be officially licensed
If people keep racing on Race Control and buying stuff, then this will all be a success and S397 will be able to license, build, and sell more tracks 😀.

You have to remember there are a lot of us who enjoy hot lapping and creating set ups. There are lots of car series in the real world that have open set ups. At some point you need to step up and learn how to set up a car in a sim. I thoroughly enjoy racing against myself hotlapping and tuning and then competing against other peoples set up and racing skills and so do lots of other people. I’d argue against you and say I’d personally prefer that one of the rookie races should be open set up. Ultimately I agree and respect why rf2 rookies is fixed, then if you want to step up from rookies you need to stretch yourself and learn set ups!
It's not about me or anyone learning how to set up a car it's just a simple fact that fixed setup produces closer racing and close racing is the point of doing sprint races in the first place.
Even for longer races having limited setup / mostly fixed set is going to produce closer racing.
By all means have open set up for longer non sprint races leagues / special events though why not , for people that want it.
But Setup skills literally turns into a game of trile and error and time at the higher level + knowledge of a specific sims exploits and often unrealistic broken aspect of physics.
@@GamerMuscleVideos conversely lots of people know how to set up cars and physics exploits from learning via hot lapping and learning from others. If you watch streams of top split racing with Michi the racing is close, because they all took the time to learn the hacks, they researched, they spent time on each track looking for that extra tenth and a lot of us love that as part of the game.
Motorsport is competitive and if you want to compete at higher splits that’s the motivation to learn. If you aren’t motivated to learn, then that’s what rookie races are for and why splits exist.
If you end up in a split where people have a set up and you don’t, that should be the motivation to learn. If you aren’t motivated to, then that’s on you. It would be cool if they introduce one intermediate fixed settings race each week to satisfy as many people as they can.

I like rF2's online system but I really wish there was less waiting time between races. 1 hour is quite a lot to wait for another race, imagining you just finished a race at :30 of the hour, you'd have to wait a full hour on top of that plus quali and 5 mins of practice for some reason before the race itself.
I wish they created new sessions every 15 minutes and if not enough players were signed up you'd wait another 15. The problem I could see happening is that usually there are under 100 sign ups even with the 1 hour wait, so it's possible that quicker races could stagger the girds a bit too much and you'd end up racing the same people constantly, some car/track combos would possibly also have to constantly extend the wait. However, it's also possible that more people would start playing because sessions spawn more often.
And I regret getting this far into the video, especially when Raceroom could learn a thing or two from these guys when it comes to ranked online structuring...
Race room is a tiny team , everything they donis insane to be honest. Have to really consider that.

They did run at some point the starter pack tracks and cars for rookies, effectively making it work like rf2’s online but with a bit more rotation. No idea why they don’t do that anymore.
With practice and quali added it takes around 35mins for a race, it gives you time to have a break then get practice in for the next race. it' also times up with the intermediate races, but I would like to see intermediate races hourly

Your tight line through T1 was so much faster than everyone else. What the hell were they all doing?
Edit: I used to think double or sometimes triple apexing a long corner was always faster, but after watching so many F1 onboards of them costing through corners hugging the kerb the whole way around, I've since changed my view on this. Of course, there are exceptions, but corners like that one isn't one of them. I'm curious to know what you think. (If you can be bothered answering a silly old Aussie on the other side of the planet/ even better, pls make a video about it).🙂
Not sure about this car in particular, but its very car dependent. Not all cars have the midcormer grip and rotation to hug the inside
@@EddoWagt Sure, but you can still adjust your speed and line to facilitate the turn-in and subsequent cornering. Or else GM wouldn't have been able to hug the inside while the others were going wide in similar cars.

@@EddoWagt Yes, I know, but as I said, they are similar cars. GT3s are subject to BOP requirements to compete in a homologated series. Even if you want to get pedantic and say some vehicles handle differently to others, he finally catches another Porsche in the last moments of the video, which also takes a broader line through T1.
Anyway, thanks for comment-bombing my question to GM with an irrelevant side tangent to distract from my core question about hugging the corner instead of hitting multiple apexes. I hope he can overlook this and still give his thoughts about the ideal line through extended corners.
Lots of simracers drive from memory and that memory is built up from driving same lines on warm tires.
I drive from what i can feel in ffb and current avakable grip and giving my self a margin of what i know i cam deal with and what is likely to happen around me.
Most people will be super slowmin raon cold tires and opaning lap as they only really are confident on a single line around the track like they are sriving a train.
I'm so happy RF2 can be a game again.
