    Quick revision: I may have been thinking of another 3rd party track in regards to the AMS mesh. It's possible the rF2 version of Brand's Hatch is based on a different scan than AMS 2's, so bear that in mind. The tracks are marginally different. For the next shoot-out I'll take one of the lower aero cars, and a track from the Reiza pack, so they're completely identical!

    I'd like to see a comparison of the Caterhams in both games. They are steered a lot on the throttle, so it would test how controllable they are in comparison to each other. Having driven the Caterham Light on a track day a while back, I can say the Caterhams in AMS 2 really surprised me, in that I felt instantly at home with them and drove them how I drove the car in real life.

    Hello Ermin,
    Great video as always buddy! I am in need of a bit of help, I am struggling to get AMS2 to respond even remotely naturally at the moment and I do't know what to try. There is no real latency issue from what I can detect, all aids are off but I feel like the sensitivity of steering is really low and it requires far too much lock to get the car to turn (far more than I would typically use). (Speed sensitive steering is off). I've only really tried the F1 cars so far, it may be an issue with them? I am running different amounts of lock ( setting it so it matches on screen). It actually feels best when I set it so that the on screen wheel is moving more than my real wheel, about 360 degrees on my wheel. Is there anything else you would recommend trying? I've sacked off the game twice now and gone back to ACC, Assetto Corsa and RF2. AMS1 was the absolute king of physics, I can't get AMS2 to feel even playable yet. :(

    On the subject of what sim has the most "advanced" tyre modelling/physics:
    - rF2 tyres are a hybrid dynamic and steady-state model, with a dynamic brush model for the contact patch and a steady-state 3D modelled carcass (look-up table of baked-in pre-calculated values; it can't do anything that's not already accounted for)
    - AMS2 tyres use the Seta Tyre Model, where both tread and carcass are dynamic, being calculated in real-time based on what's going on with the car/track.
    It's difficult to directly compare the capabilities of each tread model without looking at them really closely, but both are excellent. rF2's steady-state carcass has limited dynamic range and might not respond to all situations properly, but since it's not run in real-time it can be higher resolution for the situations it is set up for.

    • @JanKowalski-kb1hd
      @JanKowalski-kb1hd Před 4 lety +4

      It’s a lot more than static vs real time carcass or thread more modeling. iRacing NTM v7 calculates almost everything real time based on physical tire model, but is still considered its weakest point. Seta is not that advanced as SMS would like you to think. rF2 static lookups enable to account and calculate much more things than in pCars2 TM. I believe only downside of rF2 approach is that you have to spend a day or more generating/calculating a tire on an average PC. Pre calculating to lookups in rF2 is not really limiting - I believe only in extreme circumstances, like crashes.

    • @iseeq72
      @iseeq72 Před 4 lety +2

      @@JanKowalski-kb1hd Do you have sources explaining details of the physics in the mentioned Sims? Hard to find.
      I do not agree on NTM v7 being the weakest point though. How so? It is probably the most advanced tire model in any Sim. Just takes time to get it set up right for a specific car (for the developers) -> took over a year to get it right with the Skip Barber only. But when properly done, it beats everything on the Sim market IMO.
      Concerning AMS2 I would be much harsher: That physics engine completely failed. Every car no matter what class has the same stupid oversteery feel out of corners, just feels plain wrong. I give it a shot after every update again and again... never with a better verdict so far.

    • @JanKowalski-kb1hd
      @JanKowalski-kb1hd Před 4 lety +6

      @Marcel I guess you’re an iRacing fanboy who defended and will defend NTM no matter what. If so then perhaps one of these will shake your confidence:m.czcams.com/video/eUklObi3Jeg/video.html.
      Assuming Skippy tires are now close to real, why it took whole year? How do you know values didn’t have to be fudged to give realistic behavior? If NTM7 or whatever it’s now called is based on first physical principles , then why they just don’t roll out this new NTM update on all cars? Why the need of extensive testing and tuning for each car?
      I propose you to listen to the independent opinions of racing drivers, rather than iRacing marketing posts of how revolutionary their TM is.

Not saying anything is better, just I think were kidding ourselves with all this 'my sim is better than yours' talk. They're just different from each other, people just prefer different things. I'd wager that if all the sims looked the same, and we picked random cars and tracks that we weren't familiar with, no one could consistently identify which is which from the physics alone.

Check out Mikk Schleifer’s youtube channel ( czcams.com/users/MikkQUICKMIKK ) to see it in action - he lists it on the description of each of his ams2 videos, which he posts more often than using his other go-to, which is rf2.

    I think you don't need to compare the exact same content to notice a very different approach in these two sims. I suggest anyone try Corvette C6R GT2, Nissan GT1, Nissan GT500, EVE F1 1968 and feel the very good physics, sound, and FFB that you will not encounter in any other sim despite these content age. I Like AM2, but I don't know if it will reach the level of AM1 in physics regards.

    Compare GT3 cars from ACC and AMS2. Technically, ACC seems ahead, but i like how GT3s behave in AMS2 and the sound is just to fall in love with. There is so much creaking from the chassis and gearbox screaming, i just love that. Especially in the Porsche.

    You could do Silverstone and Ibarra - McLaren MP4/13 and Formula V10. Silverstone because it's, well, Silverstone. And Ibarra to compare how they handle understeer/oversteer rotation in long, slow corners.
    I came to conclusion that AMS2 cars drive like motorboats - enter corner at reasonable speed, turn in and smash throttle. Rear will steer the car around the corner like on rails.

      rFactor 2 probably because like 90% of the content is downloadable workshop stuff and mods. Wouldn't work well in the console format. AMS2 because it's pretty new, only came out of early access over the summer. With next gen releasing, it probably wasn't worth it to port and Reiza is a small indie team I think.

    rf2 has more physics being simulated and is definitely more realistic. AMS 2 is undeniably fun though with it's excellent ffb. Loving both at the moment. Try rf2 Brittus 49 vs AMS 2 Lotus 49c at Reiza's Virginia Raceway for a great comparison.

    When GT3 cars come to AMS 2, it would be cool doing a comparison to the official Studio 397 GT3s along with ACC and could even throw iRacing and Raceroom in there too. They all have Silverstone and the Nurburgring GP.

  • @BSDShoes
    @BSDShoes Před 4 lety +1

    I love rF2, have had it ever since it first came out and I'm glad S397 took ahold of it and brought it back to life. IMO it has the overall best car physics of all sim racing games out nowadays. BTW I play iRacing the most out of all simracing games I have.
    AMS2 is also good but there's one thing that irritates me- the lock to horizon settings, I like to lock to the car and it's super annoying to have the road wobble like crazy (same in PC2) and having it set the other way around, it's just as bad even when locked to the road especially when you go off the track onto dirt/grass and the world and car both wobbles in a weird way.

      You should try FIA GT1 2010 mod for rFactor2. The Lambo RSV GT1 on the Nordschleife. FFB strength 60-65, smoothing 4, low force boost 0. Basically, the lower the values are, the more realistic the steering feel is. Once you tune this mod up, you will have a hard time getting back to AMS 2. It is that good. And don't let the rudimentary UI drive you away from this wonderful sim. It's all about those 3 sliders I mentioned.

      @Andrei C Tried AMS2 again but oh boy..what a mess. Comparing AMS 2 vs 1 i find AMS2 a major downgrade on terms of sound(!) Physics and ffb. Probably the major advantages of the Madness Engine are rain and VR. Such a shame Reiza has put themselves into this state were they want to be as good as AMS1 at least but my oh my
      ...working on that madness engine must be a total hell. Especially the GTR3 class felt even worse than GRID.

    What is this BULLSHIT you're talking about?
    Where on earth did you read that the version of Brands Hatch in AMS2 is created from the rF2 version?
    And this rFactor 2 version is a MOD, RIPPED from Assetto Corsa.
    Reiza is a very small studio and they would not risk a lawsuit for a stupid reason like that, so they make their own tracks and cars from scratch.
    AMS2 has SO MANY tracks, why can't you choose one that both sims have and is made from their teams, Studio 394 and Reiza?
