The game of Basketball has been my passion since I was 5 years old. I grew up as a kid watching my dad's recorded VHS tapes of playoff games through the 70s and 80s, and collected all the Basketball cards. Something about the game and what it represents just hooked me from a very young age.
My love for the game only continues to grow as time goes on. I love studying and analyzing the game, with an unbiased perspective. Feel free to subscribe, follow me on social media, and celebrate this amazing game and it's rich history with me!
I post videos every week on NBA history, predictions, hypothetical scenarios and current NBA topics.

I gotta be honest with you g. Respectfully you are very wrong. I don’t even know who could possibly compare with him modern wise but the kind of defensive attention steph gets is kinda similar I guess

And MJ obviously has few things to his advantage of being a better player. But some of these kids try to say MJ would just be an avg player in todays league. Insane how ignorant ppl can be
Yes yes yes yes. Omg yes.
@@jakemurphy3352 go watch the tape. kawhi plays the most similarly to MJ that I’ve seen since Kobe. They’re both very strong and athletic and have huge hands, but also very methodical in getting to their spots and have great foot work. MJ was obviously more athletic and better offensively. And just for clarity I’m talking about 96-98 MJ rather than his younger self who relied more on his quick first step to create separation.
If you can't touch him up, he's getting to the rim. There's a reason why the Jordan rules were invented. With today's rules, there is no way to defend a guy like him.
Don’t forget to mention the excessive foul calls cause ur gonna have to foul him at some point 😂

Yup. Now its a 3pt contest and the game is getting positionless. Every team plays the same system. Centers wanna play like guards.
Especially the 80s and early 90s, before the pro sports teams went corporate, fleeced taxpayers for another generation of free stadiums, jacked prices for everything at the game sky high, and priced out all the fans who weren't willing to sacrifice their childrens' futures on season tickets.
What it was like to go to a pro sports game in the 80s or prior, and what it's like now, are two entirely different things, catering to two entirely different sets of fans that have almost nothing to do with each other.

I still remember the game when Michael Jordan said "This one's for you baby" to Dikembe Mutombo and made a free throw with his eyes closed.

There is and has never been a player this good since. You watch this video and other Jordan highlights and it’s strikingly clear how good of a basketball player he was and how much better he was than anyone else in any generation.
The championship fatigue you speak of was something Jordan discussed in The Last Dance. He had said after 1998 he could tell his teammates were losing motivation which made his decision to retire even easier

An underrated aspect of Jordan was his HANDS. Jordan’s hands are the size of baseball gloves! This allowed him to protect the ball better. Catch passes cleanly. Jordan could manipulate the ball in the air better than other players because his one hand could wrap around the basketball. Jordan’s hands helped allow the acrobatic shots of His Airness.

Mostly because it's was a smaller sport with a smaller player pool back then. How efficient was he? he averaged 23.5 shots per game to average 30ppg... That's a lot of shots per game lol. SGA shoots 19 times per game for 31ppg...

@@SI-cd7xs you nailed it on the head
@@brianlakeberg1768 What was your favorite moment watching MJ play during his nba career?
@northaldine5116 his early years when he finally made it to the NBA, and his first 3-peat when his team wasn't as stacked as it was during his second 3-peat. Right before they got Phil Jackson to coach the team, there was a fun span when Jordan played point guard for their team, putting up Westbrook type box scores with 30 point triple doubles. During that late-season stretch in 1989, Jordan played 24 games as the Chicago starting point guard. He averaged 30.4 points, 9.2 rebounds, 10.7 assists, and 2.5 steals per game while shooting . 498 from the floor. During this span of his career he was the Goat. His points, and points generated off assists, when taking into account his field goal attempts were at an absolute legendary level that (still lower than Jokic's though for comparison) (total points generated) divided by (field goal attempts plus turn overs) - players that score a lot, get a lot of assists, while shooting a low amount of FGA, and having a low amount of turnovers dominate this.
They say: Focus on your strengths, MJ would say: That's everything.
Jordan really took every accolade from tonnes of HOFers 😂
MJ's '88 season holds a place in my heart not just because of the absolutely insane achievements he reached that season, but also because he did it all in my favourite shoes: the Air Jordan III "white/cement".
Way to sell his shoes. Nice marketing there

87-88 DPOY, League MVP, Scoring Champ, Steals Leader, Total points leader, All NBA first and Def first team, Playoff PPG Leader, record 200Stl/100Blk, (in B2B seasons, Hakeem and Scotty each did it once later on). All Star Gm MVP, only player in NBA history to post B2B 50-point games in the playoffs. All-time record 141 blocks in a season for a guard. And for good measure, won the slam dunk contest.
- Jordan reached more accolades, achievements and heights of greatness in 87-88 than LeBron has in his entire 21 year career.
Also my favorite Jordans released with the elephant print. First year with the jump man logo too. Clean af
Jordan would average 40 easily just shooting 2’s fade aways and dunks… Guards would foul like crazy trying to stop him in this day and age where you can’t touch anybody… People forget how Jordan attacked you. Every move/ dribble was going forward or elevating right over you for the jumper. This guy narrating is spot on along with other NBA players saying the same thing
How efficient was he? he averaged 23.5 shots per game to average 30ppg... That's a lot of shots per game lol. SGA shoots 19 times per game for 31ppg...
so to score what you're claiming he'd need 31 shots per game. that'd break his own record of most shots per game lol
maybe he'd average 40 if he had like 30 shots per game lol
Jordan made everyone on the court play better. He brought a swagger to the game that everyone tried to emulate. If he played today other teams would learn to play better. A rising tide raises all ships.
Jordan didn't only score the most points he was an elite defender too... the GOAT
He's the GOAT, but 40-42ppg is absolutely RETARDED. Maybe if they continued to play man on man defense only.

Another thing that never gets mentioned is that Jordan knew he had to get a certain amount of the Bulls points in order for them to win, that said with the league scoring increasing by nearly 20 points, that means he'd know before the game started - his final points goal would have to increase for the Bulls to win! Michael controlled the game! He knew going in what he'd have to do for the Bulls to win - nobody did it better - and nobody beats him with talent like he had during his 6 Championship years!
that's actually a really good point
Everyone knows they have to get a certain amount of everything. Points assist, rebounds ext. Doesn't mean they will. Aside from that I think Jordan would definitely average anywhere from 36 to 40 no questions asked.
You guys think he is God 😂
Jordan averaged almost 33 points up till his first retirement. So that's 9 years if he plays the season he retired and the one he only played like 17 games. That's at least 11 seasons where he realistically averages 33. I think in todays game the way it is played he very well could of averaged 36. Not because I think he's god. Because I have never seen anything like him
@@pretendphilosopher2300 That’s too much. The goat.
To me, Jordan's iconic shrug conveyed a sense of humility like, "Can you believe it? I"m sorry. It's just not fair. Everything is falling for me today."
MJ's impact as a PG and his performance the day of the shrug are 2 amazing statements about his talent.
35 points on the first half while not playing for 6 minutes, and hitting 6 threes, that's incredible. There is a guy today that if he drained 6 threes and put 30 on the table by the first half, would be considered by his fans as a shooter just as good as Steph Curry, and the undisputed goat, Jordan did it out of pettiness.
Most impressive thing about MJ is for the most part-When the lights shine the brightest The GOAT rises and turns on that Monster mode!!!
Jordan was extremely competitive. He played offense and defense with high intensity he never let up at all.
These new superstars only have offense and suck on defense. Just think of any current superstar that comes to mind now and they probably suck on defense.

GOAT BASKETBALL CZcamsR, MAKING A DEFINITIVE VIDEO ON THE GOAT NBA PLAYER. THIS IS TOO GOOD.
I agree and You broke it down perfectly about how MJ would fit in this modern NBA. 90s Jordan was legendary but my personal favorite is 80's MJ He was dominate on offense & defense and even Switched it up and played Point Guard during those years also. I miss the 80's - early 2000's basketball.
Also, in 2018 the NBA changed a rule. When grabbing an offensive rebound, the shot clock gets reset to 14 secs. The old rule was 24 secs. This alone creates more possessions and shots leading to more pts.
Jonny Arnett keeping me going throughout offseason rn
Outstanding video, very well done. I saw Mike’s complete career and I would have to say the most impressive to me was when Doug Collins had him play point guard. He was quite amazing!
He really was The most amazing Point Guard ever Stockton and Magic were extremely Lucky he didn't stay at Point I think he had between 8-13 straight Triple Doubles during his Run at Point
There's crazy amounts of cold blooded lines in NBA history. But not enough people know one of Jordan's hardest backfires on his game
"Clyde Drexler is a better three point shooter than I choose to be"
With the pace, spacing, and increased drives he would go crazy.
Nail in the coffin video for anyone who wants to argue any other player as the GOAT, great job!

1 KD is the greatest scorer he scores efficiently at all Levels MJ couldn’t shoot 3s
Saying he shot 34% from 3 & would be fine is laughable when he only had ~3 3pt attempts a season when the volume of 3s go up EVERYONE % falls
MJ was taking 22+ shots and 8+ FTs a game
If bird was getting that many FTs he would’ve be dropping 34 plus too
2 I t’s not easier to score today Jordan can literally iso and clear the whole paint out because of illegal defense so 3 secs in the paint didn’t matter because they either had to double or literally be next to they man
and guess who was guarding Jordan some slow non athletic white boy he can just run by or a undersized guard he can post up
Now you have teammates that can’t shoot you getting double , and trapped by a Zone when Jordan avg 37ppg only 2 players shot over 35% & none of them shot over 2 3s a game
None of his bigs could shoot meaning with a Box and 1 zone and no Jordan Rule he’s not getting all those fake fouls and he not getting no easy lanes
@SkyRiseDon 1. Jordan has 10 scoring titles, 6 championships, 5 mvps, highest scoring season other than Wilt, highest career PPG ever. KD does have better 3pt shooting than Jordan, but does that matter? Jordan was scoring the most, and scoring the largest percentage of his teams points while doing it. Bird didn't get more free throws because he didn't drive to the hoop as much as Jordan, that's where Jordan fouls came from. He was the greatest slasher of all time as well as one of the greatest low post and mid range shooters of all time as well. Larry Bird shot more face up jumpers from the triple threat position than anything and got fouled less because of it. Jordan and Bird both played in the same era and Bird didn't outscore Jordan so I don't know what you mean here.
2. All you need to do is watch video footage to see that the paint was never empty during Jordans career, so this whole nonsense about Jordan faced weak interior defense and weak help defense because of the illegal defense rules is just that, nonsense. The illegal defense rule was hard to enforce and lots of teams, especially the best defensive teams hedged lots of plays and there was no defensive 3 second rule at the time so big could camp in the lane as long as they were actively "guarding" someone. Most drives to the paint jordan faced 2 or 3 defenders at a time. Lack of 3pt shooting also meant that most defenders were within range to help very quickly.
The game is much more open nowadays because so many players are threats from 3pt range, so the zone is useless when you have to tightly defend 3-4 even 5 players at the 3pt line. Alot of players can shoot from 30+ feet now.
Saying Jordan got defended by slow white guys or undersized guards is a terrible point, just say you're racist. Must be pretty mad that two uathletic white guys are tearing up the nba right now.
I love how this video puts on display the great teams and players Jordan had to face and go through to deserve this legacy. Many (younger) fans dismiss these players because they didn’t see it. Guys like Larry, Malone, and even Kemp would cause serious problems in todays NBA. And Mike was the man in a this iconic era!
Mike was the man in the 90’s he was a non factor in the 80’s. Sure he could score, but no one was worried about MJ in the 80’s. They were worried about Magic, Bird, Isiah, and Dr. J. MJ owned the decade those guys didn’t play in. Mike never beat Bird! Broken back, and heel spurs he never beat Bird.

Goats don’t punch or slap teammates and get rules changed( aka the Jordan rule). Goats also don’t cheat like brady. 🤣🥊
I was born in Chicago in 1990, so while I wasn’t really conscious enough to remember the first three championships, I certainly remember the second. Being in Chicago during that time, the atmosphere was just insane. Everyone in school had Bulls or Jordan themed clothes, I used to have a book about him as a kid. I remember watching the playoffs, the finals. Everyone wondered what he would do that night, what kind of crazy move he would pull off. The entire city would literally come to a standstill.
I think we can sometimes attribute this to the technology of the time too. There wasn’t much internet, no social media, rudimentary cell phones with no texting. So if you wanted something to watch, Jordan was the answer.
All I know is I hit the jackpot. The greatest of all time played for my team, in my city, during my childhood. It was something truly special.
Tell me about it, the closest time to feeling that electric energy in Chicago was Rose in the MVP season. It felt like that Jordan era was back in Chicago again for a brief second. I miss the Jordan era.
Absolutely awe inspiring. All bets are off with MJ on the court. What great work done here.
He the goat.. he's game the most beautiful to watch, no doubt.
The defense that time was unreal hence offense was equally hard. If MJ will play today - he was unstoppable in offense and defensively he is a feat as well. The 2 three-peats proves it.
We should go back to the letter Dean Smith wrote him. He was an all rounder.
Another thing people overlook is; Even during 90s MJ had the most free throw attempt and success numbers. And the thing is back then it was harder to get a faul call compare to Today.
I mean during late 80s and early 90s Jordan was still a pristien shooter but back then he was more of a inside scorer. He was a diver to the hoop. And during those years he was getting 9 to 10 Free Throw attempt per game. And even during late 90s (when he turn to a more post shooter) he was attempting 7 to 9 FT per game.
For example, even a outside shooter like Devin Booker attempts 7, Tatum attemps almost 8,5 per game, Harden attempts (even old Harden) attempts near 9 per game. Doncic shots 10 FT per game and Giannis 12 per game.
If you put a predator and slasher like Prime MJ into this Era I can almost guarantee that almost 15 FT attempt per game for MJ. And due to his %84 average that means he can get at least 10 to 12 points per game just from his Free Throws. And Prime Jordan at his best 3pt shooting seasons were shooting 3 , 3pt shots per game with %37. Now triples that at least. He'll shoot 8 or 9 3pts in today's game. And with %37 that means at least 8 to 10 points per game from 3pts.
So just with FT and 3pt he got 18 to 22 points per game. And Prime MJ was attempting 21-23 2pt shots per game with %54 FG.
Since there is no camping big men and no handcheck that number can rise up to even 27-28 at least. And his percentage can rise up to %58 from %54 at least. But just for being realistic and humble lets say he is gonna attempt 25 2pt shots per game with %55 FG (cuz 28 shots with %58 cause 32 ppg and that could cause heartattack for Jordan haters or LBJ wankers)
And that means he'll get 27,5 points per game from 2pt attempts.
So at bare minimum at least 25 points from 2 point shots + at least 8 points from 3pt shots + at least 10 points from Free Throws.
Even with the minimum / nerfed numbers he is easily getting 43 points per game with %56+ 2pt with %37-38 3pt and %84-85 FT with over %53 FG at least.
So in today's NBA prime MJ "at least" 43 ppg 9rpg 9 apg 3 spg 1 bpg %53+ FG kinda guy ... Deal with it.

@joseph_vernon21 dude one season he averaged 48+ minutes a game he is the only player to lead the lead in assist a season scoring witch he done 7 times and rebounds in a season
In my opinion the overall team results (championships and how far you go in the playoffs with their contexts) are worth considering, and while I agree that comparing stats straight up can be very flawed, I would argue that statistical performance is worth acknowledging too.
Would it be fair to compare how well everyone compared to their peers to one another?
Ex: Players who average 30 points per game today might not compare quite as well to those who average 30 per game 15-20 years ago because scoring averages were higher in the later year, but those who averaged say 15 rebounds per game today would compare better to someone who put up that many in the 70’s or earlier because there are fewer missed shots, and thus fewer opportunities to get a rebound.
Yea players like Ben Wallace and rondo
Another SUB that helps me bring Bball knowledge to the table. Starting to sound advanced vs. remedial! Ty
if Mike wanted to average 50 in todays NBA he would. You have to remember Mike and Phil set challenges and goals for Mike to keep him interested, focused, and more motivated. Mike always set goals for himself during the offseason. when they said he couldn’t play defense he came back and won defensive player of the year and still led the league in scoring.
MJ and Kobe would always keep pushing themselves to the limit and polishing aspects of their games in order to win, while pressuring teammates to do the same. Unlike some chosen baby 🤡
AMEN!!
Kobe is just a discount mj kobe can do nothing mj couldnt do better
@@lessssssgooooo I mean if you're slightly less than the best ever ever like by a mile,MJ, thats not bad...one thing they had in common ead their competitive killer attitude
@@lessssssgoooooKobe is the black "Mamba" MJ is "Air Jordan" not the same.. they loved each other only reason LeBron is known because the NBA needed a face For the NBA when these two left , viewership was going down, LeBron is a fictional character
Man cant stop watching until i finish. Very nice content. Jordan is very reliable scorer and very competitive player. GOAT ❤
Thank you! Excellent Truth! Enjoyed the Stlls and Vids too.
He would also drop the competitive spirit of all the other players that has to get better and try harder for the whole season
If MJ played in this era, he’d average infinite points per game. The only force that could stop him from scoring is the game clock. Simply the greatest player of all time.
so stupid.
He would not get 28 shots
He would not get 12 FT per game
He was also not a special 3 PT shooter so would not be making 4-5pg like Harden or Curry
He would not be able to drive on or get his own way against todays athletic guards and SF.
@@bjrnthebootybandit😅yea okay
@@MeccopolisThe funniest thing is bro truly believes that garbage😂
MJ is always going to be the GOAT.
LeBron would average 60 points in the 80s
I love videos like this, they just show how great this man was ...
MJ was the Michael Jordan of all Michael Jordan’s
Enough about the basketball GOAT... I think it's time we hand the crown of the GOAT basketball youtuber to a certain someone ;)
Yeah Jxmy is pretty good haha. Joking they both bring it everytime
This is probably one of the best overlooks of MJ I've come across on CZcams. This vid breaks down MJ's whole body of work, not just Great but the horrible ones as well (not too many of them).
Kenny the Jet Smith put it best. Something nobody ever talks about is that he was the most fundamentally sound basketball pmayer he's ever seen & just happened to also be the best athlete
My favorite part of the video is the credit you gave to Horace Grant.. People also don't understand how many different schemes Jordan has thrived under.. Great compilation
Great video, and Jordan is the one and only GOAT 🐐
The young kids today just have no idea how different MJ was. He was quite literally the most competitive person that’s ever played in the NBA. A rare blend between high basketball IQ, insane athleticism, solid fundamentals, and unmatched offensive bag.
This is a great video, great job. Thank you
One of the greatest videos I’ve ever seen
Let's not forget about the rule changes that have happened over time
Michael Jordan was a beast. The so called goat debate of today isn’t close at all. Jordan was just that much better than everyone at everything
Jordan’s 87-88 season was crazyyyy. Got my vote for the greatest season every played in the NBA
MJs accolades in the 80s alone before he started winning chips I think made him a top 5 player all time. Then he started winning chips and adding accolades that sealed him as the GOAT.
Magic Said Jordan was the goat, MJ didnt have any chip
Thank you for clarification on why Jordan's era was harder to score due to the spacing. More times than not in his era someone was waiting for you at the Rim after you beat your man
Spacing was definitely lacking in those years.
But out of curiosity, I notice people mention that pace declines after the early 90’s. Any explanation for why?
@@fortynights1513foos got slower
@@fortynights1513 It was the peak era for bigs, who most teams still largely built their offenses around even if the center(and sometimes power forward) might not have been the best scorer. It was an "inside/out" style of offense as opposed to today which is predominantly "outside/in". Most teams also played more halfcourt sets rather than the fast break style that dominated the 80s. Casuals or general dumbasses will say the pace slowed because the players were trash, but they either don't understand that era(probably because they were too young to have seen it) or are being intentionally ignorant because they need to find a way to diminish Jordan.
@@davidmartinez52420Would the 80’s game also be “outside/in”?
Thanks for answering my first question. I asked about the pace drop because everyone mentions it declined in the mid 90’s, but nobody ever explains why.
Everyone mentions scoring increases a bit when hand checking is removed around 04-05, and when players shoot threes more often in the last decade or so.
But the drop in the 90’s nobody has described why. I guess the bigs in the 80’s weren’t as good as those in the 90’s as a group.
@@fortynights1513 In the 80s some teams liked to run fast breaks and the pace was similar to the last 10 or so years. Up until the mid 2000s the game was usually focused on the big man. If you look at all the great centers throughout history, many of them played before that time. It was around then when some rule changes the league put in place to increase scoring that the traditional center started to get phased out in favor of perimeter players. Historically the formula for winning championships involved having a dominant big man ideally paired with an elite wing but the big man being more important. It was incredibly rare for a team to win a title without a dominant big or at the very least a front court committee(like the Bad Boy Pistons), and any team that did win one without that didn't sustain the success. The Bulls winning as much as they did and the way they did was unheard of at the time, and that gets lost on younger fans that don't really have a strong grasp on NBA history. Nowadays it's normal for teams to win built around perimeter players, and a lot of fans look at the past through the modern lens they look at the game today and that's just wrong. Even after Jordan retired, the game reverted back to needing that elite big with San Antonio and LA Lakers winning most of the titles built around one.
Amazing Video, i loved it🔥🎯🙏🏽
I'm not even a fan of basketball but a massive statistics/data analysis nerd. I'm simply in awe at Michael Jordan and so fascinated with the endless stats he holds that seem impossible. Anyone who has done their research will find the ultimate truth that he is the GOAT and its not even close.
It's a true shame we don't have these early career games of MJ on video. I was watching NBA by this time in history. So I get it and remember hearing a lot of times, tapes were used multiple times to save money on many programs. Including the NBA. But man, it would be cool to see some of these early games. And see his playmaking and ball handling. 🤷
Phenomenal video as usual Jonny. Would’ve loved to see you complete the set at the end and cover the 93 Finals when Jordan set even more Finals’ records and averaged 41 PPG for the series. Saving this one 😌😌😌
Would’ve been cool if you put some of the Wizards Michael Jordan videos at the end too to round it out but video is pretty long already so I get it.
Exactly the real 🐐🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 incredible stact 's
The narrator is speaking calmly, but his facts are shouting from the mountaintops!
Don't you feel that way?
That's the best way I can describe what's happening here. And I'm only 10 minutes in.
You did a fantastic job on this video man.Thanks.👍
Nice detailed video. Took your time to explain everything clearly so that the average fan can understand, and wasn’t biased.
It’s crazy how self made CZcams sports analysts literally put out better/more interesting/deeper minded content and analysis then all the big sports channels/shows on sports center, ESPN, fox sports etc etc
This breakdown is insane!!!
Indeed Jordan really was a great at getting his shot off with no wasted movements also was very athletic so he could get where he wanted at will 🤷🏽♂️🔥 an absolute prime MJ 87 to 93 would definitely avg 39 to 40 ppg
Bruh. Phenomenal video. A+ work here, damn 💯
The best video for fans who wasn’t around to see the real GOAT played! JOHNNY explained the true greatness of MJ with nothin but facts!! 5⭐️
Deepest Jordan Vid i've ever seen, bar none!!! Props👊
Awesome video and analysis! He is the GOAT! That is obvious if ALL things considered... from stats to rings!
At 1:19:35, Reggie Miller showing us the proper way of doing a step back three pointer. That was a thing of beauty!
Bird, Curry, Miller, Kobe, Reddick best 3 point shooters I've ever seen.
@@TheSupernaturalWolf41How are you going to leave off Ray Allen?
Absolutely fantastic video!🙌
The best analysis I watched so far. Role players help when they perform. Otherwise forget it.
I played pro in Australia and met Horace Grant in 2010. We talked for a while and he said when the Magic beat the Bulls in 1995, he knew the next year MJ would win the championship. He said he didn't regret leaving Chicago, but if he knew MJ would be coming back, he would have stayed.
50….Easy in today game…The man was above all levels
I mean.. he COULD score 50 a game, but it would have to be his sole focus, and he would have had to play a very different style, dropping facilitation and assists. He'd likely score somewhere between 40-44.
@@user-cn8nu6lq4w He 'd score what he want to score in this era ( Why should he change it’s style ? It was perfection in its finest ) …Literally…Who could stop him and how, in game without body contact …? Pistons ( Team full of butchers ) couldn’t stop him back in time , so I don’t think that today's players ( with painted fingernails and emo hairstyle ) could do it….
...in order to score 50 he'd have had to change his style and focus SOLELY on scoring. @@dudedude4034
50 is not a realistic number otherwise.

Great work as always, Johnny! Jordan has no peer! And, the 87-88 version was just ferocious! With all of his explosive athleticism he was beginning to become the refined scorer that we knew him as during the 90s!
