0:46 omg Mario and Goombella turn around to witness the mugging, that's great
"Oh my god they kept the guy getting mugged in the background!! :D" ~ Alpharad, 2023
@@MasacoMikeAND THE NOOSE
Weirdly, I think I prefered the original version for that. I like that it happened in the background and that it wasn't even worth turning around for because it is an everyday encounter. But that is a nitpick, this is funny in a different way.
@@TheZebbga I think it works for me as it compliments Goombella's next line.
@@delunimbus I like that she says she hates this place while a mugging she is unaware of takes place in the background, providing her point without seeing it.
But again. It is a nitpick, it doesn't affect me much.
This is it. This is Nintendo's final attempt to revive the Paper Mario franchise.
If it sells well, it will signal what we've been wanting from them all this time.
GO OUT AND BUY THIS GAME. IT IS DEFINITELY A MUST-PLAY.
This is a “We are Here” moment from Horton Hears a Who 🚨🎺
Awesome game! Excited to play the switch version.
What are you talking about? Origami King came out only 4 years ago. It's one of the Switch's best selling games. The consistently release new ones every 4 or 5 years. Nothing is being "revived." Why are we just making things up?
lol no
30 fps is a joke, play the original.
@@nezahuatez This is regarded as the best game in the series, and it seems like Nintendo has been banking on the remake's success judging by how much promotional material they've been releasing.
If this does well, this could mean the execs at Nintendo will get the message that this is what fans want and will make them the most profit in return.
I'm so glad that nintendo took a lot of time for the Paper Mario TTYD remake, this game looks so amazing

Im hyped of this!!!
gamecube is on pc? How is it not original
Just to clarify, in the original you could swap partners without opening the menu. You just had to press the D pad until you got the character you wanted. The wheel is still an improvement though.
Yeah I never thought it was that slow honestly, the wheel will probably be more intuitive though.
I've been playing for 20 years and never knew that... or maybe I did as a kid and forgot, lol.
I'm pretty sure it was *left* on the D-pad.
The original had a shortcut on the d-pad that would take you to the part of the menu for swapping your party.
From what I can tell it's really just a visual change. It just doesn't pull up the full page of info for them.
It even rotated the same way this versions wheel does. I'd say the speed between them is the same.
Half true.
The D Pad would take you to the specific menu screen. It was slightly faster than pausing and scrolling along but it still was a bit slow. Admittedly, I never had an issue with it, but this here is still definitly and improvment.
God BLESS the pipe shortcut change. Awesome QOL
Its just a QOL but I'm already so hyped that there's an entirely new room, makes me think there will be even more new content further in the game
@@RuneTacticsswould love a luigi sidequest of the marvelous compass
That'll make General White's quest a breeze, especially how Glitzville and Twilight Town now have dedicated shortcuts as well, and right next to all the others, the trouble center quests will also be much faster because the shortcuts can be accessed through the central square of Rogueport, much closer than the so called shortcut rooms from the og that were still rather far away to where you usually move and hang around, Petalburg's pipe was as far or even further away than the gray stony pipe you use to get to Ch1 xd
Yeah, huge qol improvement. The backtracking is one of my few gripes with the game, and it's one of the areas I think makes it worse than the first game (which I think also could deserve a remake)
I love these quality of life improvements.
The partner wheel will take a lot of the busy work away from swapping them. And thank goodness they added a Fast Travel Pipe Room. That will make chapter 7 and 8 so much less of a pain to navigate.
I can't wait to replay this game again for its 20th Anniversary!
I wonder if they did something to Chapter 4 and 5, those are infamous for having you go back and forth through kinda annoying paths, and they already confirmed Ch5's platforming wall with the Putrid Piranhas and Flower Fuzzy is back
What the game could use is shortcut pipes where, after you get through those long enemy segments, you can activate a pipe that shortcuts you back to the village areas.
@@gamewizard2008 Something they can do is make it so you unlock the pipe as soon as you get to the Steeple the first time to cut the first Twilight Trail returns, but after Doopliss ran away because you told him his name, he could lock the pipe, so now u gotta go to Twilight Trail with Vivian, as if the guy became aware you've been using the pipe, so he locked it up so you don't arrive there immediately, so rather than having to go through that hallway for like 5 times, you only get to do that at least twice, once with all your partners, another with just Vivian, one with all your current prowess, another with just the partner designed to counter most enemies found there
And would be very nice if they add a pipe connecting those two places because that way getting Golden Leaves would be much faster, which can be used for very nice recipes
Here's looking forward to how they hand-wave the existence of a Warp Pipe to Glitzville.
Glitzville has plumbing too 😂
So that explains why the scene in the intro is timed differently, It's so Mario and Goombella watch before Goombella confirms she hates rogueport. Very nice move.
The pupil in your pfp isn't perfectly circular.
@@TeltStory ...good observation skills..?
Great preview video, thanks Nintendo Life! I'm so happy about the Nostalgic Tunes badge. I will definitely be playing through the game on Nintendo Switch at least two times - first with the new music, and a second time with the original music!

-They didn’t change the Chestnut King translation error
-Hooktail’s weakness changed to frogs
🐸
I mean, it's more accurate to the original Japanese. The sound effect is based on a frog rather than crickets, but since it's a Japanese species of frog and I guess Nintendo figured kids would somehow not recognize it as a frog, they changed it to crickets even though it... does not sound like crickets.

I'll watch the whole video because someone told me it went from a 9/10 to a 6/10 because someone deleted a whole level on accident and apparently half of the dialogue is characters just saying "poop" on repeat.
Not at all. He says that pretty much at the start off the video, and then goes on to detail about what’s the same and changed with his thoughts on them with the bonus of lots of new visuals to look at.
As well,as that he talks about performance. And more than that if you bothered to watch.

Man i so can't wait! I kinda wonder how they're gonna handle the fast travel pipe for glitzville. Considering its flying, and it does look like they added pipes for chapters 4 and 7 so thats gonna to be cool to see where they put the travel pipes at in those places
Good to know about the framerate decrease affecting timed actions. I wasn't expecting that. What I really want to know is if Beldam's insults towards Vivian change in this game or stay the same as the US/CAD version.
I forget who i watched that coined this term, but I would like to call this kind of remake/remaster a rebuild. A rebuild would be a game that gives us major graphical overhaul with Quality of life changes but it is still a near 1 to 1 recreation of the original game. You can put the Nsane trilogy, Prime HD, Xenoblade DE, Reignited Trilogy, Brothers tales of two sons in that category. Then we have game like the Resident evil remakes and Dead Space remake that are actual remakes with much different experiences than the original. They have entire level designs and story beats changed.
This is such an important game for Nintendo right now along with Mario RPG and may pave the way for future releases. Great review!
Learning why the Blue Pipe room has a Flurrie covering on the East entrance now kind of makes sense. Personally, I think it's going a bit overboard, since it seems like they're locking the pipes behind story progress & actively fighting against alternative playthrough style creation.
I hope they at least do something interesting if they're revamping the room layout a little.
Anyway, okay run & analysis video! Thanks for uploading!
They saw people getting ms mowz early by triggering chapter 6 flag and so no fun allowed.
I already saw the blue pipe room had a complete overhaul where all the pipes are in one location and activate every time you get a Crystal Star
The pipe room is now like Origami King, and it connects directly to Rogueport's central square, and there's now a pipe for all 7 chapter locations, including Glitzville and Twilight Town, that already is a MASSIVE improvement to the backtracking you gotta do in sidequests, to gather resources, for completion sake, and specially for that infamous General White chase
The old rooms were impractical as heck for how far away the pipes were to where you usually move around, many times you were better off just taking the normal entrance over those so called "shortcuts"
I can’t wait. But also me: waiting patiently for a paper mario 64 remake.
that one is gonna be hard to remake faithfully! the artstyle is so unique.
@@zgiffish Not to mention it’s playable already through Nintendo Switch Online.
If this sells well you probably bet on that happening
As someone who loves 64 more than TTYD, this is all heartbreaking in a sense to see how beautiful this remake looks. I still love TTYD, but man I wish 64 got this same treatment. They're both such wonderful games, and even though 64 is on NSO, it's the more aged game out of the two and deserved it more IMO. Hopefully we get it in a few years though especially if this does well!
@@GamePrime99If this does really well. I feel like it’s more likely for a PM64 remake to happen. It totally deserves one. 👍🏼
As someone new the Paper Mario series TTYD is looking slick on Switch, looking forward to playing it for the first time on Switch, I’m not sensitive to frame rates normally but this could and should have been 60fps on Switch but I’m fine with it either way.
I’m hearing a lot of mention from channels about the partner wheel. While I see how this wheel is faster, as a yearly player on the GC TTYD I am fairly sure there is still a D-Pad input to swap characters (Although it runs a bit slower) on the original version. People are acting like we always had to menu before to swap partners and I’m starting to think I’m going crazy 😂 I’m going to check again this week to see if I’m mistaken.
I was wondering if they were going to reuse the old music in some way, i believe it was hg/ss that let you unlock an item that let you listen to the gameboy versions of the songs so i was wondering if and how it could be implemented here and they just make it a 1 coin badge i'm so hyped
It’s confirmed that exactly that is being implemented.
I am soo looking forward to this. I couldn´t play the original because I never had a Gamecube; but I had a physical magazine from Club Nintendo (latin America equivalent of Nintendo Power) which had part of a walkthrough of this game, and I remember reading that countless of times because it looked amazing.
Honestly wish there was some form of difficulty mode selection to make The game more replayable for people who have played it loads in the past but you can't really complain with all the upgrades from the GameCube version
I'm also intrigued about how the superguard timing is going to work with the reduced frame rate, as because the original had a three frame timing window it can't be neatly compressed into 30 FPS while keeping the same difficulty. It'll probably either have to be a two frame (easier to execute than the GC version) or a one frame (harder to execute than the GameCube version)
@@sambailey566 Most likely 2 frames. It's unusual for a newer release to be more difficult than its original counterpart.
@@sambailey566 Do note that the game displaying at 30fps doesn't mean that it has to poll inputs at 30fps.
It could still mess up timings, because the visuals would be be different, but it needn't mean you can't have, say, a 1.5 frame window now.
WAIT. It used to be 60fps on the GameCube, yet the remastered version on a more powerful system runs at 30fps… WHAT 💥
It's still going to be good and it's a remake not remastered
That's because it's not a remaster but a remake built from the ground up in the Origami King engine. Origami King was also 30 fps.
Yeah, it's obnoxious because that makes this game not the "definitive" version like it should be
@@AndySola It definitely isn't a remake, sorry. It's a VERY enhanced port. Not to say it isn't on the same level as a remake, but no, it's definitely a port. It's really clear that a number of elements are essentially unchanged from the GameCube version, since they started with it as a base (why wouldn't they? What a waste of time to rebuild a game they already have the code for.)
@@superluig164 You should look at some comparison videos. Everything has been redone, just like with the Super Mario RPG remake. If it had been a straight port with the same assets from the GameCube original then there wouldn't be any issues with having the game run in 60 fps. The Switch is a lot more powerful than the GameCube after all. So why did Nintendo decide to rebuild the game from scratch? Well, who knows? My guess is that they probably wanted it to look as good as possible so people would feel justified to pay full price for the game.
3:17 I love this scene with the X-Nauts
How is the Partner Wheel new? In the original you could instantly open the partner window with a flick of the c-stick. Same goes for items. Am I the only person who knew about that or why is everybody making such a big deal about it.
It was the dpad. You're thinking of the c buttons in the original
Yeah, it's really just a visual difference from what I can tell.
The original could swap just as quickly thanks to the d-pad shortcut.
There's concept art, I'm buying it
I could never get my hands on the GameCube version in my small city so I’m looking forward to playing this!!
Super excited for this to be released!
really cool that there are warp pipes that lead to every chapter town instead of just a few.
I HOPE they add more to the bob omb ice village (Fahr outpost) and Poshley Heights has more to it than just nabbing the star. Also a heavy post game like another pit of trials would be the cherry on top.
1:34 this confirms that Luigi's story is the same like the original, let's hope that the books in the post-game have some images
nah fuck that we need a full on dlc where you play as luigi on his adventure
I'm happy for the people that now get to play it but it's hard for me to get excited when I can see the game on my shelf. I can play it right now if I wanted.
Although the remake may have the worse frame rate, it is superior in every other aspect. But I understand why you wouldn't spend $60 on a game you practically already possess.
@@tictactoecraft Nah the more emphasis on the paper and moving away from the storybook look like look at rogueport center stool with the lynch rope. Even crystal stars are stickers now. TTYD remaster is more of a downgrade than you are realizing.
Well, that is highly subjective. There is nothing wrong with the new style, and it still adheres to the storybook style. I would even argue that the new art style emphasizes the storybook look of the game, especially with the character designs.
@@tictactoecraft Okay but there are still performance issues not in the og and no storybook pop up style has the vibe of 64 and TTYD not here is a paper plane and paper pigs. Yes its subjective but i liked the storybook artstyle they made because of technological limitations and trying to mesh it with teh modern look just ruins the atmosphere and looks of places aside from some places like glitzpit. OG was a consistent 60 while this game has frame dips and its pretty nauseating to see. The paper aesthetic also will ruin some serious story elements like look at the pigs in twilight town. Paper pigs make it more comedic than this horrifying revelation the og made and created with its more storybook aesthetic and darker and sometimes more mute atmospheres. New creepy steeple is also too bright now.
@@tictactoecraft Also this issue happens with a lot of nintendo games nowadays but i am gonna say it TTYD rogueport in remaster has too much effing bloom and many places are too shiny. Shiny does not make things look better. Its just painful on the eyes for no reason. The devs need to learn how to use bloom better. So many places have too much bloom and are too shiny now compared to og.
is double pain available from start on?
I do wonder if they added anything to the post game. Yeah there is the endless battle thing at the arena but a proper rematch with rockhawk would be cool.
Personally still holding out hope that mass success from this game will spur a Luigi's Marvelous Compass DLC in like two years.

If Nintendo and Intelligence Systems are as prescient as we know them to be, the game might get a framerate boost to 60fps when running on the Switch 2/Switch Attach console. Through a patch or through native, more-advanced hardware built into the new system. Like how SEGA did with digital versions of Sonic Unleashed and Sonic Generations on the Xbox consoles that followed the 360.
Im so glad to see stylish moves are still in the game! My absolute favourite feature
I’m glad to see that this remake is getting great pre-release reviews. I can not WAIT to get my hands on this game again.
Speaking of fps one time i was playing the game on the dolphin emulator and in the dry bones section of chapter 8 when i used the hammer spin attack the game had a huge frame rate drop so im kinda worried about this in the remake
The one thing I vividly remember about this game is trying REALLY hard not to step on a contact lens that a character dropped. For some reason, I thought I could somehow avoid stepping on it at the time, so I kept retrying.
I remember trying to stay still for like 10 minutes waiting for him to find it
Is the battle victory fanfare also specific to each area ?

1:14 That actually is what a remake is: A recreation of the original, instead of an update (remaster).
Most remakes however are also reimaginations, which most often are better than remaking the exact same game with few improvements. RE2R, RE4R, FF7R really do shine (RE3R however I still want to cry...)
A little bummed about the 30 fps, but if that’s the ONLY downgrade, I think I’ll live.

Question for algorithm. So I played the original TTYD and waiting for the remake. I have Super Mario RPG remake and curious would I enjoy like TTYD or expect something completely different going in? I know there both rpgs but curious how similar they are
They are universes apart in difference.
Only similarity they have is a depth story & turn based combat but I would say TTYD is leagues better in every way personally.
Super Mario RPG is a lot closer to more traditional RPGs like Chrono Trigger than Paper Mario is. Paper mario is indeed an RPG, but it's a little more of a departure from that style. HOWEVER. If you like RPGs, I see no reason why you won't like Paper Mario.
the battle screen ( theater ) feels smaller now, camera is way back now..
Nintendo, PLEASE let me skip from Twilight Town to Creepy Steeple. Thank you.
It is concerning that apparently chapter 2 didn’t have any speedups that they felt needed to be mentioned. As someone who’s come to realize the backtracking in the GC version is part of why I think this game is only decent, I really want them to improve that aspect.
Honestly the insane backtracking is one of the biggest design issues that I thought made TTYD less enjoyable than PM64, in my opinion. There's really so much to love about the game, but that one thing more than anything else (combined with a pile of other smaller annoyances throughout) really weighed it down in my book, and overall I enjoyed PM64 more even though it wasn't as daring and unique of a game as TTYD.
That said, TTYD absolutely deserves this remake treatment and I will absolutely be throwing my money at it on day one.
Bro that's not going to happen or it just takes away that whole chapter
