I expected to lose many times throughout this playthrough, but pushed through and ended up having many successful battles. Hey, so I may have made an oopsie. I should have added the pit of 100 trials to the end of this video. I was going to make it its own separate video, but I have realized that I cannot turn just the pit into a good video, and I don't want to give y'all half baked content. Just know it involved a lot of Yoshi Stampedes.

@IlllIllIIlIlIIll- tis true. seeing as this is my first vid, i'm still trying to find my groove of things, and also just get more efficient at editing. this one took me about a month of recording, editing, and scripting, so i'm just gonna see how things start to go.
You could also consider just making a short out of the Bonetail fight 🤔

I mean, you cannot even beat Lord Crump if he has 2 Defense and no Superguards
Gale force chance is based on level difference, since the Dark Koopatrol was a much higher level than you, that means you got really lucky.

considering ive only played the new paper Mario games (sticker star onwards) and I'm trying to understand why TTYD players hate new paper Mario so vehemently and tout this game as the best one (and i will say this is a very good game!), it actually is my first time seeing the game explained so in depth, seeing playthroughs is cool but i do also like challenge runs of stuff in general

Challenge runs and mods have keep the game alive (besides Nintendo's remake) yeah, basically you either love the later games or the earlier games, it's hard to enjoy both considering the contrast in gameplay (i have played paper mario, ttyd, super, and color splash, once your used to the first two battle systems, the others look a bit boring yet hey, it still unique)

This is why I love combat systems like these because you can build in your own challenge while the combat can adapt to any change you give it. It's why I continue to challenge run this game after so many years. It's a yearly tradition of mine.
There's just so many ways to artificially make the game harder. It's great
Its funny how people wanting to throw hearts to heal you can be your enemy if you're doing Danger/Peril strats because that lil heal can potentially take your buffs away, and the game actually let's you prevent them from doing that

The tutorial boss part transforms into a counterstrike minigame. Like, you have 10 points of health, and either you miss 10 times or repel 10 attacks. Pretty fair and challenging.
Every TTYD video I see, I feel the need to tell everyone... Smorg boss has the best music in the game, criminally underrated.

This was a great way to watch a play through. I love the restriction and the commentary. I would love to see videos with different restrictions, i dont know really what? But theres just a lot of the same i find in ttyd content. I wanna see strange badge combos and stuff

I would've loved for Grubba to get interrupted in the middle of him attempting to power up using the Crystal Star by someone important (don't know who) and convinced to instead do this fight in front of the crowd in the form of a bonus match. It would've been cool to have the crowd be there.
Also, the clever video editing out of Doopliss's name every time you said it before the name was revealed in the game cracked me up.
3:32 the fact you made a reference to a shiny pokemon is pretty funny! 🤣 I’m a bit nervous to play the remastered version of the game before the first time. I have heard good things about the game but the counter attack looks super tough to perform….

Also, I'd like to contend that an arguably harder Paper Mario difficulty mod is the Dark Star Edition, though it's for '64 and not TTYD. Still, I recommend giving it a try! It'd be awesome to see a video on it as well!
I'm not nearly as adept at 64. I've actually never even beat it fully haha. I plan on getting around to it tho.
@@AstronOtter Oh gosh, you gotta get on it then! I'd argue that it (the base game at least) is slightly easier than TTYD for a variety of reasons. Inns and recovery blocks are free, partners don't have HP and are rarely attacked by enemies, that sort of thing.

when i saw the dark koopas from PM64 when i played Ch.3 of PMTTYD for the first time i had PTSD cause no matter what i always fudging died to them cause they always knocked my partner to be able do anything then gave me the Dizzy Status so i couldnt move then i die from being attacked nonstop back in PM64
So when i found out they didnt do their dizziness-causing attack anymore i was relived
ALSO I died what i heard the Champion Cynthia battle theme (funny cause i listen to that alot when making my PMTTYD AU)
Little tip for Bowser: try to get enough exp to level up after killing Grodus so that you heal.
Yeah haha. I wasnt worried going into it because I could just full heal turn 1. I don't think leveling between fights would have changed much
I feel that with the game being harder defensive partners like Flurrie would be seen as stronger. It seems that she helped a ton here but yoshi and Goombella seem to be the best as normal lol.
Flurries was definitely helpful before some of the other could scale up. Im thinking of doing a challenge where enemies have infinite defense, but idk if that would actually be fun haha

One can make the vanilla game tougher by going for a different build rather than say balanced which just makes it easy.

For the hardest attack to super guard in the game, there's none harder than the cannon attack from Magnus Von Grapple 2.0. It's nearly impossible to guard against all 10 hits.

There is a better code for double enemy HP. The one you use doubles the total HP of bosses instead of the amount of HP for each phase. It also gives Rawk Hawk 100 HP instead of 80 for some reason and gives the Shadow Queen's hands the HP of Shadow Queen herself instead of double the hands' HP. The code below fixes these issues. Disable the one you currently have and use this instead.

I honestly forgot that the hands didn't have the same HP as the Queen. I probably won't do this challenge again because it was really really hard, but this is good to know for the future.
19:14 Cortez having 120HP makes sense though. As you say, 3 phases each of which is 20hp. Total is 60, so new total is 120, with each phase lasting 40hp.
Yeah, but each phase ends after the full 120 health bar goes away, so he actually ended up having 360 total instead of 120 total

Fun fact: Bowser and Kammy both have a 5% chance to be affected by Showstopper's KO effect. Not great odds, but also not zero odds.
Also, I wonder if the reason why you set Cortez's HP to 120 instead of 40 in each phase is because you put the double of his total HP, not each phase's HP.
Yeah that's 100% what happened. I don't exactly know why a similar thing happened to rawk hawk as well since he doesn't have phases, but it was interesting. I was definitely not expecting that to happen.
@@AstronOtter Yeah I can't think of any reason why Rawk Hawk's HP was set to 100 except for maybe you thought it was 50 instead of 40 in the base game, but you probably would have caught that mistake while entering the new HP.

If you look at it very closely, at 7:46 into 7:47, Mario takes 4 damage from Earthquake. There is a brief moment, barely a frame or two, where Mario's health drops to 14, then instantly goes back to 15 despite the clip being taken in whole. It might be fake, but if Astronotter made this mod, what would be the motive? What's going on here?

Haha. I need to be more clear in the future. I actually just lost the footage after recording my voiceover and went back to do it while getting some examples footage of some attacks and had a thing that made Mario's health always go back up after taking damage for ease of recording all the extra stuff. My entire playthrough was legit, just some of the recordings after I finished were "cheated"

If your doing it on emulator, there should be a few codes that allow you to alter the odds of things happening. Allowing stage hazards and enemys using (not dropping) items to happen more often. This could be interesting in the sense you can make all fights more chaotic

Technically you don't have to, especially in the actual game. They give you the perfect amount you need to deal with every situation as long as you don't use them for unnecessary fights. I had to buy more because obviously I need 2 for every 1 I would need in the base game

Did you change the values for each boss manually? I thought, you would just change the damage algorithm for enemies or something.
I actually found some codes that people had already made online. I believe it was done by hand, but I do not actually know for sure.
