I love when games include concept art as a bonus!
I love it when it's a thing you can unlock and not a bloody pre-order bonus or anything.
@@BlaizeTheDragon agreed!
For a game as special as this is a really big deal. It’s going to inspire so many artists who are Mario fans. The art of this game is embracing the process too! It’s amazing.
I believe the Hooktail weakness change in the original was just stemming from the fact that the sample used for that badge just... didn't sound that much like a frog in the original. So it does make sense that with a clearer sample, they'd retain the original line.
The sound is from a frog that's native to Japan but unheard of in the US- so they changed it to a "cricket".... which I guess does sound a bit similar.
@@cloudymccloudyeah, people in the US are more used to the Pacific Tree Frog sound.
Didn’t sound like a cricket either. I remember being stuck in Hooktail’s castle for so long because I had no idea I was supposed to equip that sound badge
@Doublee73 Call it forced but it sounded atleast like it was saying "cricket" to me. But that is with the game telling me.
@@Doublee73when I was like 8 I found the badge and was like “well this must be important” and put it on immediately. Didn’t understand why the boss was easy.
The soundtrack change is *definitely* warranted, this game deserves to have more than one battle theme
It’s the same battle theme, just rearranged in different styles, like Origami King.
@@PianistTanooki and those different styles are often so different that it's just a different theme

Holy shit, if the battle music gets its own Origami King-styled remix for every chapter, that would be the best damn thing ever. I *loved* (cannot stress it enough) how every streamer color (and certain other areas) had their own take on the battle theme that fit with the setting of that particular zone. That's actually a really good expression lol
I feel like it looks kinda weird but I think I’ll get used to it
It’s not a dealbreaker, because they’ve seemingly addressed some backtracking, as well as there technically still being the ability to travel fast as Yoshi, but I really wish they just added in the 64’s spin move in, even if it was a badge!
Am I the only one who actually likes the backtracking? It's nothing compared to, say, Metroid...
@@dylancrampton5620 backtracking is fine if it’s not tedious. In TTYD it can be tedious and time consuming
By the time you’re back tracking in Metroid games for example, you’ve also already acquired multiple power ups that not only speed up the process, but allow you access to secrets and items along the way that you couldn’t access before - this is backtracking done right
@@dylancrampton5620Backtracking is part of an design that Metroid or the genre in general is known for. There are gonna be some backtracking moments. And besides, Backtracking isn't always an bad idea if it's done decently and not tedious. And while I do think TTYD does have some amount of backtracking that can get annoying and may slow the pacing down, it's not an huge deal breaker since the writing makes up for it and the gameplay gets better later on. Couldn't they tooken some parts out or made some sort of fast travel? Yeah. But it's not as bad as people think. Still would be nice to have some sort of fast travel though.
Spin move was GOATed
Who says they haven't added a badge?
The softened timing almost makes sense. CRT TVs had essentially negligible input lag, while most modern TVs have around 10-20ms of input lag if set to game mode, and upwards of 100ms outside of game mode.
So apparently the battle theme does have variations based on location just like in Origami King. Neat
You guys keep calling it a remaster, but this is very clearly a Remake. Nintendo even said so in the survey they put out.
Same fundamental game, therefore remaster. FF7 becoming an action rpg makes that a remake
@@GhibliNovaf**k no especially if they fixed the backtracking definitely a remake.
@@GhibliNova FF7 Remake is NOT a remake. It's a reimagining, like Super Castlevania IV.

7:11 As far as I know, the Frog sounds in the GC release were of a common Japanese frog, but not what American playtesters were expecting to count as frog sounds, since no American frog sounds like that. I don't know if changing it to crickets was more clear, but that's what they did.
Since the new sound is very clearly a frog, they probably changed it back because they had to. This doesn't sound like crickets at all.
So I wouldn't see this as evidence that they intend to make a more faithful translation by itself, but they will probably change other localization decisions from the GC version either way. We'll see if it has implications for certain characters.
Also adding to that, in the initial trailer we can see that TEC has his original red color, unlike the blue that it was changed to for the US version.
@@SailorChiMoon Tbh, it makes sense. This is most likely going to be a global release, same version for everyone.
Changing stuff like visuals depending on the language select is very rare, and that is why a lot of newer releases tend to either favor one version or the other for details, with the other version getting erased on the way.
Just so we're clear. We're all talking about vivian being gender ambiguous right?
@@nomickok2 Whom else?
Is there even any other character we could be talking about that has a remotely interesting change between versions?
I could even see new language differences being made, every Punie spying on Petunia might be funny in Japan but I don't think it will make it to the US a 2nd time. Still, nobody cares about that.
The only language difference anyone cares about how it's going to be localized is Vivian, I don't think that was ever unclear.

I welcome that frog change with the updated sound effect. That attack FX badge sounded nothing like a damn cricket
Right? I said the same thing.
Some notes on timing for those interested
-The timing for guard seems to be 8 30fps frames long, which is double the amount of time it lasted in the original, which was 8 60fps frames.
-Superguard is not the same like mentioned in the video, but it is instead 2 30fps frames, which is similar but one 60fps frame longer than the original, at 3 60fps frames.
-Simplifier, and Unsimplifier, badges which could alter the frame window for all moves as well as guard and superguard, can be obtained after Frankly gives the player the Power Smash badge, which is before the first chapter even begins.
-If players purchase unsimplifier from the Lovely Howz badge shop and equip it before they fight the Blooper, they can effectively increase the difficulty of all action commands for every fight in the game except for the tutorial fight against Crump, and the sewer goombas.
-The point at the game which the badge shop becomes accessible is also when the "Nostalgic Tunes" badge will become available. As stated in the video, it cost 1 coin and 0bp to equip
I wonder if that means mistranslations, like how they didn't translate Lil Oink in an email, or how the Piranha Plants in the Pit of 100 Trials are supposed to be called Killer Piranhas, are also gonna be fixed.
And the Dark Lakitu throwing Pipe thingy?
And Vivian’s whole thing
@@JIreland1992apparently the vivian situation is a lot more complex than i first thought, like it’s not just “vivian is trans” or something so simple, but still yeah i hope they translate it properly too. anything would be an improvement.
And the mistranslation of Koopa Koot’s name in the Thwomp quiz as well as the Crystal Palace in the hide-and-seek Koopa’s email
Id say just translate from the original english localization...or retranslate the japanese to mean what it meant. If that happens to be a crossdresser or trans character, why care? I get the over wokeness of a lot of things these days...it doesnt mean we should outright reject anything thats unusual. Its just a game..@@arzfan29
I wouldn't be surprised if various timing windows were adjusted. The CRTs we had on the GameCube could display a video signal instantly, while modern displays have a slight delay.
The nostalgic tunes badge is probably in the same shop as the W Emblem and Jumpman badges. That guy's shop has rotating stock, it wouldn't be hard to add something new in there.
Its in the Lovely Howz of Badges at Rogueport. Was shown in a screen shot in some other vid. Costs 1 coin.
Well, that would be the other logical choice.
"That guy" is actually Ms. Mowz herself! The white mouse you see in there is actually Ms. Mowz without her famous mask and shoes!
@@DoJayMi Pretty sure they were talking about the large guy standing by the gallows who sells a rotating set of badges, including W Emblem and Jumpman, not the clerk in the shop.
Couldn't you switch partners quickly with the d pad in the original?
It would quick pull up the partner menu if you did that. So technically yes, but this new way is much faster/optimized.
@@apronormie5986 don't get me wrong. It's definitely cool. But "much faster" might be overselling it.
@@jv2276 fair point; I just booted up an emu (don't tell Nintendo) and checked the speed. It's still faster in the remake, but yeah probably not very much so. Definitely more optimized.
Biggest thing for me is knowing that there will be a badge to go back to the classic soundtrack if I desire. I've heard some of the new renditions of different area themes compared to the past GC release and I prefer the GC tracks more.
Dang so every area is getting its own rendition of the battle theme like Origami King. Thats awesome, one of the things I loved about that game.
I really liked TOK soundtrack and also the design language of the paper / origami
Great preview video! Thanks for confirming my most wanted feature in this remake - the ability to use the original music!
5:00 As for the alternative music badge to revert to original Gamecube music, there is a badge in the badge shop on the second floor of Rogueport that looks like a GameCube! Equipping this changes the music to the original game.
1:28 As a kid I got stuck on Chapter 4, on the portion where Mario loses all his partners (and the fortune teller is also unavailable), because I skipped over the text that hinted at what must be done next. I'm curious to see if this ZL feature will remain available during this portion of the story despite Goombella becoming unavailable. Maybe the new partner that Mario meets in this portion takes that roloe temporarily?
I was just kind of hoping there would be a "hard mode", akin to what some modders have done in the older games altering enemies hp and damage output
Isn't the game hard enough as it is?
@@stripedrajang3571 Not if you superguard eeverything
@@PixyEmThen just don't superguard and there you have your hard mode kinda like how pokemon players self restrinct themselves in lockes to make the games challenging
Well if the game only runs at 30 fps instead of 60 fps now, that would probably change the Superguard's timing window. It was 3 frames in the original (so 3/60th of a second). Of course, inputs can still be measured independently from how the visuals are output, but they might not have gone through that trouble and changed it to either 1 (2/60th of a second) or 2 frames 4/60th of a second, which would be either a bit more or a bit less difficult to perform, and knowing Nintendo, they'd rather go for the less difficult option.
The Hooktail-Frog thing is probably born of necessity rather than being deliberately more accurate to the Japanese version.
See, the sound that the original game used for this badge was that of a frog species native to Japan. For Japanese players, it logically sounded like a frog. But the translators thought that English-speaking audiences might not make the connection and that they would maybe think it sounded more like a cricket instead, changing the text accordingly. (I grew up playing the German version and it had always been a frog there.)
Now that they had to redo all the sounds, they also went with a different frog sound, which sounds more distinctively like a frog. There would be no more confusion about what the sound resembles and thus no need to change the text.
Hey, I was just wondering: in the hooktail fight (7:22), I feel like we see Mario and Koops guard her firebreath and it looks like they are blocking way too early and it still works. Do you think they actually made guards easier too? Or maybe it's an option to make them easier or they got 20 simplifiers equipped...
What luck I have to still own the original in case they did... Or do you think it's just displayed differently somehow? I just can't get the question out of my mind.
@@memekyu_memes BLUF: the guard timing window seems *at least* 25% to 50% larger than in the original, at least based on my frame-by-frame analysis of this video.
-----
There is a difference in visual feedback to the player. Ever since Sticker Star, Mario's pose would change as soon as you hit the A button, then would change again a few frames later to show that the successful guard timing window had ended. It seems like that's the case in this game, too. So, we can check exactly how early they pressed the button!
Running the video frame-by-frame (can do it on a PC keyboard with the . and , keys), it looks like there are 5 frames where Mario and Koops are in their guarding pose before the frame on which they're hit, implying that the guard lasts for at least 6 frames total. The original game apparently gave 8 frames, but also had double the frame rate (except in the PAL release, I think), so the 30 FPS would be 4 frames.
So yes, the guard timing in this video does seem at least 25% to 50% more lenient. It could be more. ...I wish I knew where to find the Simplifier guard frame data*, because now I'm kinda curious about how lenient it could possibly get in the original.
*EDIT: Two Simplifiers will increase both guard timing windows by one frame, according to jdaster9's blog "The Super Mario Files". Three Simplifiers increase it by two frames, but it's not possible to get three legitimately in the original game.
Same thing with the badge for supercharging, it would have to be twice as effective in this game. So if they made super guarding a 2 frame move in this game, with the badge it would be 3 frames with just one badge. Thats the equivalent of 6 frames at 60fps in the original which is almost as easy as the regular guard, and with two of those badges it would be the exact same timing as the regular guard. If that’s the case then the new game is going to be VERY easy.
@@115zombies935 Supercharging? Do you mean Simplifier? According to jdaster's blog (The Super Mario Files), in the original game, you need two Simplifiers in order to add one frame to the Superguard (and Guard) window, and the second one is only available after chapter 6.
Of course, we don't know how exactly Simplifiers will work in *this* game 'til it comes out.
@@115zombies935 Well, in the original, a simplifier did just increase to timing window for guards/superguards by 0.5 frames, so basically doing nothing unless you got two equipped. So it might be similar to that. (at least according to mario wiki)
Concept art, a sound test and an OG Soundtrack option! They didn't have to do any of that but it's so nice they did! I'm definitely going to spend too much time swapping that badge back and forth to compare the music.
Kind of concerned about the FPS difference though - that'll change the action command timing.
I think the reason some of the timing for moves is different is likely because it might’ve been frame-based (though maybe not), and the Switch version being 30fps instead of 60 could’ve done something with that
One thing I noticed with the Action Command UI is the animation for the stick. The remake’s stick doesn’t flick in the opposite direction when you let go like it does in the Gamecube version. I feel it really gave it that “kick” in the animation when there was follow through for the flick. Now it just goes in the default position immediately.
Sure, but a real controller doesn't even do that.
@@ChaosLightspeed True but it gave good feedback.
2:50
Very close call! You trusted the representative at their word, but there's already a clear indication of the changing of the super guard timing. It has to do with the framerate. The original game ran at 60fps, and the remake runs at 30.
That means that the 3 frame window for super guards is no longer possible, as the framerate is cut in half. So the developers will inevitably have to add some amount of time to the super guard, making it easier than it was before.
they could also reduce the amount of time as well
@@videogamesarecool9280 yeah very true but they won't ;3
@@enny7377true true
Ngl, and I know people will disagree just because the original isn't in HD, but the the GameCube versions graphics were so much more coherent and it's way more crisp and smooth at 60 FPS 480i on CRT than the remake could possibly be at 30 FPS HD. I'm glad people are getting a new way to play the game but that's kinda killed my excitement considering I have a perfect setup to play the original.
When an evitable 60 fps mod for emulation comes out, I'll give it a chance.
@@uponeric36gamecube could get 480p. 480i is anything but crisp
Nintendo Life was given the info that you weren’t: backtracking is made easier via a streamlined warp pipe system
Is super guarding made even easier in this game? The original timing isn’t possible in the remake (it was 3 frames at 60fps, at 30fps that would be 1.5 frames which isn’t possible and would have to be made 1 or 2 frames at 30fps) so they’d have to make it harder or easier. Plus they’d have to make the badge for it twice as strong too. The balance is going to be really whacky because of the remakes much laggier frame rate.
not how that works lmao
@@Joecal3 Yes, it really is lol.
GVG, in this video you mentioned a mechanic to help with backtracking. That mechanic has now been revealed! They took the multiple warp rooms from the sewer level and merged them into one big warp pipe chamber. They even put numbers on the pipes to help the player remember which pipe goes to where.
Nothing would be cooler than playing Luigi’s adventures as post game content
Gonna have to 100% all four save slots again. But I’ll love every moment of it
I assume timings for things will be slightly easier in this version, if only to account for the new 30fps running. For example, a superguard had a 3 frame window to perform on GCN, but at 30fps that'll have to be halved and rounded to 1 or 2 frames, which I assume they'd round up to a 2 frame window. Though I guess if they poll inputs between frames they could keep the timing at 1.5 frame window, but I don't know of any nintendo games that do that.
I believe it's been reported that timing is not tied to frames. All inputs are calculated based on an internal timer that operates outside the frame rate of the games visuals, so inputs may still be bound to a 60fps timer that essentially counts two input frames for every one visual frame.
Hooktail has not been changed, the english translation team probably just messed it up in the original.
how do I know? Cause I played the english and german version and in the german version it has always been a frog she almost choked on.
Here's another fact on the translation. In basically every translation Doopliss is called "Rumpel", why? simple to represent his origin cause you could say he was inspired by the tale of Rumpelstielzchen which is a german tale, which could mean doopliss might be facing a name change.
2:40 The relaxed input timing is likely only because of the game now running at 30fps instead of 60fps.
That effectively cuts reaction time in half, so it needs to be announted for. A shame, but it is what it is.
Shame this isn’t running at 60fps. The original ran at that so this should easily do that too.

Wish you guys were able to find out if players can accept more than one trouble from the Trouble Center. When you think of tedious backtracking in TTYD, the Trouble Center's one of the biggest culprits. Being able to accept multiple troubles at once would be a HUGE improvement.
... Which probably means it's not happening. I'm also going to disagree with you, Ash. I think the fact that we're a month out and have heard nothing about new content like what SMRPG did means we're not getting any. Nintendo proudly advertised the new boss rematches for SMRPG. I don't see why they'd be silent on something similar for TTYD. Especially with such a dry news cycle.
Ttyds backtracking is not that bad. There is a room under rogueport that takes you to every major location, and visiting rogueport throughout the game always gives you something new to see/do. I genuinely don't understand why people complain so much about this
Whats wrong with leaving stuff to surprise? I get that nintendo deserves to eat bricks nowadays due to alot of shitty decisions but even so there's nothing wrong with surprising people/letting them discover the new things on their own
Original TTYD makes you pay 30 coins to cancel a trouble. Knowing this I doubt the new version will let you take on multiple troubles at once.
We so back! I’m so excited to replay this!
Its not a remaster, Its a remake. Plain and simple
I hope the end game content is the ability to play Luigi's story lol...
That's what I think would justify this remaster too. I know it's technically a remake, but the main "ground-up" thing they did is the textures and assets, which still boils down to only a graphical update in my book, despite the fact that it takes more work to do.
Regardless, I hope lots of players who've never played it enjoy the heck out of it. It's an awesome game.
I'd love for Luigi to be a secret party member.
Nope. The comedy is how obviously he’s embellished his exploits, and his offsider tells the truth. Not playing the story.
Check out the marvelous compass. It's a fan made game focusing on Luigi's adventure in TTYD
What if the backtracking thingy would be some kind of Return Pipe from Super Paper Mario?
It's a hub with multiple pipes leading to each town that you don't need to go to the Sewers for and also unlocks earlier than in the original. It's in NintendoLife's preview.
I’m all for the new music. I recently did a college essay on Video Game Music, so I am primed to hear a new masterpiece. And I am very much looking forward to the remaster of Rawk Hawk’s theme!
Really do hope there’s some additional content and things to do, it would be awesome.
After what was done with the Mario RPG remake involving additional postgame content, I'm really hoping to see something similar.
My biggest hope for post game/extra content is that they expand on the luigi background stories, I mean its right there!
Give me a post-game superboss fight against Prince Mush. That’s just as important IMO.
I guarantee Nintendo isn't going to add substantial content. But look up the marvelous compass it's a fan made version of Luigi's story from TTYD.
Ian Foomus... infamous... you can tell the people working in this game loved it.
i was thinking info mouse
I love this game, easily one og my favourite gamecube games and one of my all time favourite games. Although I am busy in life and have other games I don't want to be distracted from so I was gonna wait on this.... but this is tempting me more and more to get it day 1. I can wait. I can do it.
Another change for us Latin Americans is that they localized it to Latin American Spanish instead of European Spanish, which makes a huge change. Haven't finished thie original but I'll get this version to finish it. Keep hoping for a Super Paper Mario remake 🙏🏽
What's with the weird comments asking for voice acting? Do you really want to ruin this game's original characters by having some weeb's voice that sounds like it came straight out of a DeviantArt fanfiction come out of them, thus destroying people's own interpretations of the characters? I am pro voice acting in modern games but a nostalgic storybook RPG remake aint it.
So fun fact: in the original Paper Mario TTYD on GameCube, in the french official translation of the game, they referred to what Hooktail's scared of as "frogs" despite the obvious cricket sound. 🤷♂️
then they were faithful to the original japanese script
The luigi post game story lol thatd be so badass
On the Japan trailer, you can actually get the badge in the badge shop 4:59
Can we just have a moment of appreciation towards Nintendo for taking the time to not only remake the battle theme but also create new ones for different areas of the world? I get that they did this in Origami King but this is just a whole new level..
There was a shortcut to the partner menue on the d-pad on GC
Yes, but that just brought up the menu, and was still slower than this quick select.
@@ChaosLightspeedNot really. D-pad -> select character -> exit
It’s just as fast.
Hey Steve, just caught this on my recommended feed at random, hope you're doing well from the ol' TAY days!
1:10
you could do this with the d-pad in the original
heck it even allowed you to pull up your items menu
Man I'm so excited for this. TTYD is one of my favorites of all time. Even if there's no new content, the QoL alone absolutely seems worth it.
It's downgraded to 30fps.
@@FreeTheTaint and we dont care.
@@FreeTheTaintNintendo fanboys can never admit Nintendo made a bad decision lol don't waste time arguing with them they are sycophants
@@FreeTheTaintYeah, the original will remain better because of that
First thing is immediately not true.
You can switch partners from a short menu outside of battle and outside of the main menu.
The Switch version of this just seems to streamline it more than it originally was.
Additionally, Goombella has always had the mentioned special ability which is great, but having this ability even while other partners are out is a welcome addition for sure.
In the original game it just brought you to the Partners page of the main menu, why do people keep saying this like it was a unique sub-menu in the game for fast Partner swapping 😅
LETS GO GUYS I KNEW YOU TEASED SOMETHING YESTERDAY
“Certain characters“ we all know you mean Vivian
the dragon's weakness was always frogs lmao thats just the american version being weird cause i didnt have that in europe
Wrong. I’m Australian, so I get the PAL version, and crickets was in the PAL version.
@@Novarcharesk what the hell I had the pal version and I clearly remember it being frogs?
I understand what you're insinuating by the Frog thing...interesting, about Viviane I'm thinking 🤔
In the Japanese version, Vivian is a guy that crossdresses, but this was mistranslated in the American version.
Whether they continue to retcon Vivian being a guy, or they translate it accurately and say that Vivian is a crossdresser, there's gonna be controversy either way.
@@hdfthryht A bunch of angry, mentally ill weirdos on twitter a controversy does not make. Vivian will continue being a woman and the T's can continue to CS&D.

I remember this detail striking me as odd, as it very much was stated that TTYD would be around the same difficulty as the original. However, now that we knew the game is running at 30 FPS, it makes a LOT more sense.
The devs knew that timings would be messed up due to the framerate change, so they eased on them to potentially match the timing of the original with less frames.
If this is the case, then no matter your stance on the debacle, the devs care A LOT to try and get this game done right. Even with all the changes.
was the hammer in the overworld omnidirectional like in color splash and origami king, or even hexadirectional like in sticker star? in all the footage ive seen it looks like it still has the same 4 directions as the gamecube version
2:00 "super mario rpg an already easy game.." oh shut up, it was definitely not easy
It...was pretty easy.
You struggling on a game when you were 6 doesn't make it hard.
Still find it disappointing that the game is 30fps despite the original being 60.
Sus that they didn't even mention this in the video
30 fps is fine but,
If the game looks and plays fine i can overlook it.
It’s probably due to the higher visual fidelity
@@JIreland1992yeah cause the switch is basically just a gamecube lol
@@JIreland1992 The Switch is three generations beyond the GameCube. That shouldn't have to be a trade-off at this point.
I know I can’t be the only one who’s begging for a post-game superboss fight against Prince Mush. That’s the only thing I could say is “missing” from the original - especially since you’re sort of encouraged to go through the Glitz Pit again.
Also… a more close translation of the Japanese script makes me wonder if that means we’re going to get Vivian’s original characterization. More questions!
But on a less speculative note, the “Nostalgic Tunes” Badge is such an on-brand feature for this I smiled when you talked about it. A truly brilliantly-executed idea.
i hope that the change in Hooktail's weakness is a sign of things to come cause me and my friends have money on the Character in question and which side is right
i really wish "remaster" and "remake" were not interchangeable terms to most people. TTYD on Switch is 100% a remake, not a remaster.
my god why does it bother you so much if people misuse them? Don't you have real worries?
@@sandiego2380 I think he's insecure because it's not a good remake
@@ventriloquistmagician4735 And what would you change since it's not a good remake?
Lol what part of it is remade? 99% of the changes seem to just be improvements visually, i.e. a remaster. They already confirmed there is no new content in this release, its just the same game that looks better. It is 99% a remaster, with 1% better quality of life. It's not a remake at all
@@ericwindsor339 exactly, and if anything, too many changes
Excuse me...I just clicked into the video, and pardon me if this is addressed or answered later on, but...the general battle music changes...depending on where you are? Oh...oh my...I need this game.
7:08 they changed it to "frog" to match the original Japanese version's sound. It got mistranslated as a cricket chirping when the sound originally was a Japanese frog, which American audiences didn't know anything about.
It's just like the Sky Blue Pipe mistranslation error, where the translators saw the word "Paipo" which means "Spiny Egg" and thought it meant "Pipe"
Yes!! The battle music varies!!!!
A new lick of paint and a partner wheel is not "so much better". If thats the best there is {while halfing the frame rate}, its a straight to Steam Deck release for me.
But youll buy it first
Yes?
@@dswig4868 lmao
For the people complaining about the frame rate. I think you have to remember that the switch is pretty old mobile chipset tech. There are some things the wii u could do better than the switch. One this that comes to mind is DK's fur in smash brothers is much better rendered on wii u than switch.
Also 30fps for an rpg is fine. I would be much more offended if it was 30 fps for a racing or fps, something that benefits much more heavily from the increased frame rate. This game is most definitely leaning harder into the visuals and lighting than the original gamecube release. I would much rather have a stable 30fps in an rpg than an unstable 60 fps where my inputs get launched into space because the framerate dipped during battle and lost my input on an action command.
Also dont give GVG crap for not mentioning the framerate. They arent digital foundry. This is a preview, not a tear down analysis. If 30 fps offends you that much just play the original game on gamecube of emulate the original through dolphin. Its really not that big of a deal, at least to me, as long as the final product is good.
The complaints come from the fact that it will make the game easier.
At 30 fps, the timing for superguard has basically doubled
If it doesn't bother you then that's fine, I play Morrowind modded at 30 fps to prevent lag and it doesn't bother me much because it's an rpg so I get your point, but it's okay to admit Nintendo dropped the ball a little by cutting the frame rate especially since it might affect guard timing
@@firenze6478 it went from 3/60ths to 2/30ths
it's a 50% increase
The complain is, okay the switch has old components ok... so is the gamecube from a museum then?? that's the thing, how the game can be at 60 fps on a gamecube, but in a switch isn't possible(stable) that's what I don't understand.
Retro made it work with Prime Remaster, which is one of the best looking games on the switch, and yet...
I don't even remember much annoying backtracking aside from the Puni and Doopliss chapters. Nice to know there's quality of life improvements anyway.
I will say, I'm a little worried looking at the footage. It seems some animations are a bit less...fluid shall we say. For example, using Koops' ability at 4:37 seems notably...stiffer than the original. Mario stops for a split second when he jumps on koops, and it just seems a little off.
The original ran at 60 FPS 20 years ago...
