After many years, I finally made it down to ZAMBOANGA, a lovely town in the very South Western corner of the Philippines!
Believe it or not, they speak SPANISH here! Well, it's not 100% Spanish, it's called Chabacano which is more of a Creole (mixed) dialect that developed when the Spaniards settled here almost 500 years ago.
Not surprisingly, Zamboanga is dubbed "Asia's Latin Town" for its strong roots in Spanish culture that can be seen not only in the language but also in the cuisine and lifestyle.
I've had a GREAT time here so far and I hope this video opens your eyes to a lesser-known part of the Philippines -- my favorite country in the world.

Being Mexican I would show up and would feel like home. The Philippines is an amazing country I'll love to visit before I die.
You def should go!
The words: kotse (car), mesa (table), silya (chair), oras (time) ARE actually Tagalog words that were ingrained the last 400 years due to Spanish occupation. PERO (but) "uno, dos tres" WE DO not USE ALWAYS.
Remember: if you ask for time, Filipinos answer with "ala/s una, dos etc" PERO they dont answer that way when you ask how many or how much. They revert to true Tagalog numbering which is isa (1), dalawa (2), tatlo (3) etc.
Pls do,We have so many similarities.
Come visit your asian brothers, we are the mexicans of asia
Not totally incorrect because the spaniards brought workers from Mexico and S. America when they colonized the islands. In Zamboanga we count in spanish. We say 'coche', we also say 'quemao and otro lao' etc. We cook tamales with rice masa and use banana leaves like the cubans. As a matter of fact, I am more fluent in spanish than tagalog.
Philippines are the most humble and loving people I have ever meet in life. Greetings from Pakistan 🇵🇰🙌🇵🇭
Let us go to Philippines! I visited your country :D
@JUNIE YT not all Filipinos are what you described. What you described is also not limited to Filipinos. People like you described also exist everywhere in the world and not only in Philippines.

I am a Zamboangeña, and fan fact: every 10 years the Spanish monarch visits zamboanga, the last they visited was in 2011 or 2012 I guess, I saw queen Sofia (which is quite a story of how I end up being in front of the Queen) and most Chavacano speakers here are mostly Christians, zamboanga is quite diverse actually since half of us are Catholics, and muslims who co exist peacefully.
and none of them ever cared to visit Cavite....
Ganda Kaya ni queen Sofia pero ung kapatid nya di masyado napapansin
That was 2012. Naalala ko first year ako nun, nasa highway kme may dalang flag ng Spain ata Yun, winawagayway habang dumadaan sya papuntang fort Pilar.
@@itsralphtv7008 yeah, and the mantra was like "Ariba España, Adelante Zamboanga!" 😂 3rd year high school na rin ako nun.
@@eduardochavacano well if you come to think of it, ano gagawin nila duon? Eh di na naman nila kayo maintindihan since only the old people can speak Chavacano. Oo maraming monument na pwedeng bisitahin but the language is already dying out. Meanwhile in zamboanga almost all people speak Chavacano.
Its not really “Latin” town. The correct term is actually “Hispanic” town. Philippines dont have Latin ancestry/culture. They have Hispanic ancestry and culture because its from Hispania (Spain).
Being Mexican I can be considered both right? My Great-grandmother was from Spain and my great-grandfather Mexican who also had Spanish blood.
Nishino Kazuki yeah thats correct. They can overlap and some countries like Mexico, Peru, Chile...etc are both Hispanic and Latin. But countries like Philippines only have Hispanic influence. On the other hand, countries like Brazil are only Latin and not Hispanic because they were a Portuguese colony.
I can agree with that, but sadly the quote of our town (Zamboanga City) is "Asia's Latin City"...

You are a dirty SEA good thing nothing Latin their. The Philippines has almost nothing of Hispanic ancestry 🤣🤣 and the culture is nothing Hispanic like us in Spain or Latin America its completely different 😂

There is another place here in the Philippines that speak Chabacano..in Cavite particularly Cavite City and the Town of Ternate
Actually, in Ermita Manila some people spoke Chavacano before but not anymore
We are only Asian nothing Latin
@@longwave3992 latin isn't a race but latinidad is a culture enforced by spaniards. most "latinos" are either black, white and native american, or a combo of two or three.
People from Luzon troll on every video about Chavacano and Zamboanga. Do you realize that what you are doing very cheap and you are being so pathetic. Nobody cares about that little village in Cavite. Let Zamboanga have its identity. No need for insecure Filipinos to insist that that they are also Latino like the people of Zamboanga.

I love the Philippines I have been there twice already and I didn't want to come back to NYC. I want to go to this province.
My city doesn't particularly have many natural sights to see, but what we lack in tourist attractions we have abundance of food especially seafood and anything spicy. True that. I've been to the Philippines, every year, since 2016. I got family in Zamboanga but only been there once, as an adult, as your right, there isn't too much to do there as a visitor.
