JD did the guitars for that new Elvis movie. His IG is so great when he does these short little jams in the bathroom. He is so authentic in his blues playing ++. Great guy too!
You always sound wonderful Paul. Composition and tone. Always at a high level. The Astoria was a big surprise too.
Thank you David! Appreciated
I could listen to you play for Days. Brilliant.
Thank You
Thank you vertical, I’m delighted you like my playing 👍🍻
Absolutely beautiful
Thank you John 🍻
thank you for sharing your playing. you always sound amazing
Superb playing as always! Very inspiring
The fires well and truly lit again Paul, great episode and I will definitely be trying to learn this.
Glad you liked it Grant, cheers for watching 👍
I always look forward to your vids, love your playing, tone ,feel & your guitars lol 😊💯
I appreciate that! Cheers Sarah 👍
Bravo. You are as enjoyable as those you've mentioned who are also some of my favorites playing today. Thanks Paul.
Thank you Christian, I appreciate your words.
Lovely interpretation, as usual Paul. Great to see the enthusiasm is back, and you are feeling inspired. Great rendition, and your explanation of the chord changes you made on this tune help to point out the melodic liberties you take. Brilliant as usual. Loved it. Cheers :)
Thank you Burt, I’m glad you liked the vid 👍
Your tele playing is fantastic, Paul. Spectacular. Well done mate.
Thanks Ian, your comment leaves me smiling 👍
You keep getting better... Great stuff.
Thank you Rinoshpere 👍🍻
Hi Paul, great as ever, happy holidays to you.
Thank you Chuck 👍. You too.
Hats off! Amazing!
Hey Paul, thank you for learning and teaching this song. Ive always loved this song. You play it any way you like. That’s what I call artistic license. Which means: I reserve the right to play anybody’s song any way I like! Thank you for taking the time to do this. I can’t wait to get into it with your chord voicing! You are an inspiration! Thank you! Harold
I’m delighted you liked it Harold! And thank you for suggesting it 👍
Love it. Great job. Thanks for sharing
My pleasure, cheers 👍
so tastfull !!! nice one paul! keep it up, we all bear so much inspiration thanks!
Thank you Jeff 🍻👍
Absolutely gorgeous! ❤️❤️❤️
Well thank you, I appreciate that 👍
Really good stuff that!!
Beautiful...
It'd go good on your next Album (!)
Thank you Jonny 👍
Awesome playing, I really enjoy listening to you perform, you play beautifully
Thanks man, I appreciate that. 🍻
Thank you Paul, great to hear you playing the great standard cry me a river ( Julie London with Barney Kessel on guitar) and make it your own, with your brilliant playing. Best wishes and good health to you and your family from Glasgow. 👍🎸
Thanks Frank. Cheers mate 👍
Saw JD Simo in Perth supporting Tommy Emmanuel. He was unbelievable! Almost stole the show tbh,
I’m jealous. If he comes to the Uk again I really need to make the effort to see his show.
Saweeet! I get a bit of an overly enthusiastic and very happy 007 spy type vibe listening to that!
Thanks 63Spatch 👍
Love Jim & Joe together!
That was inspiring!
Thanks Seggy 🍻👍
You’ve got some lucky neighbours! Awesome to have such lovely playing emanating from those walls of yours!
👍🇦🇺
Lucky?? Not if they're trying to have a snooze they're not ay?
Thank you Shane, I hope my neighbours feel the same way 🤣. Cheers for watching
beatiful brother...and yes those guys are great!
Thank you Jeremy 👍
I'm still here glad you are too.
Thank John 👍
Safe to say the slump has passed eh? Sounds brilliant!
Yes, I’m feeling good! Thanks Greg, it’s great to be back 🤣😊
Good evening Paul.
Glad to Herr you again playing your Telecaster and your blck beauty. Thank you!
To Herr you again. Sorry for the stupid wordfinding program
Hear!
🤣, yes, you gotta love the wordfinding program. Anyway, thank you man, delighted you liked the vid 👍
Man what a room. I’m jelly.
Hi Paul. Greetings from Dublin. I'm quite new to your channel. I reckon the algorithm brought me here via my awe of Tobias. Your playing is inspirational. I will never be able to play anywhere near as well as this but I am motivated to keep learning. I get stuck in my old teenage noodling ruts a lot (I'm 43!) and watching great players like yourself on CZcams helps me break out of them occasionally. Sometimes I even surprise myself when I listen back to a melody or something I've stumbled upon and recorded on the old Boss looper the night before and find that I don't completely hate it. Onwards and sideways!
I can relate to your words Ciaran. I’m delighted you liked my wee vid. And yes, it looks we share the wonder that is Tobias Hoffmann. He just blows my mind. Happy noodling Ciaran
you just described me, brother! i share your pain. :)
@@jeremyversusjazz Just listened to your latest video. If that's a rut, I guess some ruts are more exalted than others! Still, any rut is frustrating to the person who feels they are in one. It's all relative.
Oh aye that sounds good!
I found some chords new to me as I just learnt "God only knows" ...crackin chords
Thanks Robert 🍻
Wow, so tasteful!
Thanks Larsarnelana, cheers
Joe also makes amazing pedals, possibly the best take on the Harmonic Perkolator ever!
Cześć. Dobra kolekcja gitar. Pozdrawiam.
Thank you Alek 👍🍻
Very nice. 🥰 I will have a go. Cheers.
Cheers Nick
Hey Paul, I thought my Saturday morning was wrecked by storm Ciaran, down on the south coast. But I just spent the last hour learning your chords. I'm gonna have a tea break now, then a noodle round the chords and then look at your lead lines. Yeah! good fun 🙂🎸
Well I’m glad my wee video could take your mind off the storm for a bit 🤘😊. Cheers Paul
Gorgeous . . . for a moment there at the front before I caught the melody I thought you were heading into 'Lonely Woman', another favourite classic (Pat Metheny did a lovely trio version). Exquisite playing - inspirational 😀
Thank you Morton, I’m delighted you liked it 🍻👍
Thanks for the guitar players recommendations and great for the new chords. Thanks 🙏
By the way, you have both too. I love your playing and cool look player. I mean, I like watching playing 🎸
Thank you Jagercaster, your comment makes me smile 🍻
Ah Julie London, we do a vocal version of this in our set. I use either a 175 or a Jazzmaster with flatwounds. This is a kickarse version with lots of fantastic interpretation of some brilliant players. Thanks for posting and kicking the dug into touch. You are too good.
Sorry FUG!!!!
Thank you Alister, I appreciate that 🍻
So you’re out of the rut then? Well played. I love that Tele.
Thanks Terry. And I’m chuffed you like my Tele 👍
Soon you are going to need more wall...
Saw JD loads of times in Nashville back around the 2010's. He was unique and highly energetic. His style has changed a bit since but I prefer him back then. Super good nonetheless 👍
Yeah! A bit of a Barney. Fab chords. Thanks for a great version of a classic.
Thank you Joe 👍
Magnificent.......shades of Davey Graham....Chet Atkins...Danny Gatton......
Thank you man, cheers
👍
Do I detect an essence of Rory at the end there? fantastic performance sir
Yes you did Eoin, his playing is never too far from my heart.
Well done PSC. What song will I have to listen to next then???
Subscribed purely on the strength of this video. Beautiful interpretation of this much loved classic.
PS.
How many guitars do you need?
“One more than you already have!!!} 😊
Thanks Pete, I’m delighted you liked it 😊
I’m with you Paul. I don’t refer to extensions out of order. I was taught a ninth is only present after the seventh is voiced. Otherwise it’s an add2.
Hi Paul! Do you have a naturally curious mind, are you constantly in wonder of things and it comes out in your very finely crafted music and chord choices in loads of videos.
I find im like that minus the guitar skill (maybe one day!) and I attribute it to why im always so content in my own company and lack the desire or need for a lot of friends lol.
As regards the “lot of friends” thing, it sounds like we’d get on like a house on fire, ‘cause I’m like that too 🤣. Cheers Paul
Jazz not really my thing but the tone on that Les Paul is incredible. Is the Marshall an amp you would recommend for bedroom level - it does sound lovely.
Hi Marc. I’m chuffed you liked the sound of the Marshall. Yes, I can recommend this amp 100% (Marshall Astoria Custom), for everything from quiet bedroom volume to roaring “bluesbraker” tones at gig volume. The build quality is also extremely impressive, as is the reliability. Is it my favourite amp? No, my Cornell is my preferred flavour….. I just love fender style clean tones. But the Marshall is a wonderful amp.
Thanks Paul. I’ll check that amp out. I currently have a 12 or 15 watt (I can’t remember) supro delta king which is great but I can’t get decent overdrive tones without it being too loud.
Thanks for the tip on JD ! ! Have you run across Kelly Joe Phelps?
Actually, no, I haven’t come across Kelly Joe Phelps…. So I’ve added this to my do list. I’ll look forward to checking him out 👍
Beautiful playing. What year is your Custom?
Thank you Tyler. Yes, my Custom is from 1995. It’s one of these “Yamano” imports. There’s a whole Yamano backstory which you can read up on, but basically I love it. The aged binding, the general wear and the tarnished gold plating 🙏
Hi can I ask which Les Paul custom that is it's gorgeous
Thank you Jamie, I’m delighted you like my LP Custom. Yes, it’s from 1995 and is one of these Yamano imports (there’s lots of info on Yamano Les Pauls on the internet). I love it’s aged and tarnished vibe…. 🙏
Hey Paul, how do you think of the last Beatles song?
Actually, would you believe I haven’t even heard it yet (the Beatles were never really my thing). But I should really go and give it a listen.
Lucas Haneman needs a good look at .. blind since birth and quirky but boy can he play
Ok, I’m gonna give him a listen. Cheers 👍
@@paulstaffordcook8799 good deal ..a soulfully tuned man like yourself will see the shine in him quickly
Hi Paul. Are you still available for some private lessons?
Hi Lloyd. I’m always open to someone popping by for a 1:1 guitar lesson, if they’re able to make it to my home in Edinburgh. I used to do them on Skype, but not anymore. Face to face is way more enjoyable.
Do you play in a band paul.?
Funny you should ask that! Because in a few minutes time I’m about to upload this week’s video, covering just that 😊👍
Awesome👍@@paulstaffordcook8799
I feel like a Neanderthal sitting with my club with strings on watching you with this stuff 😀😀jings yer a clever laddie. You don't say much about your string damping. Is that because you just do it without thinking ? If i try stuff like that, you can't hear what its ment to be because of all the extraneous noise of stuff that's not supposed to be there 🙄🙄 am away to watch some of those links you posted. cheers for posting, but it's been a while since you done a Knopler.............just sayin ......take care pal
Thanks Charlie. Actually, since you mention damping, I’ll make a mention of that in my next vid. You’re right, it’s mega important and yet hard to describe how to do it….. 🤔. I’ll give it a bash!
