I think it's probably true that most guitar players are so introverted that they willingly give up casual friendships to spend more time with their instrument. Not enough hours in the day. You are indeed lucky that your wife selected you - most guitar players fall into the camp of "she knew I was a guitar player when she married me".

Rachel, great to see you on the channel again.👌
As a matter of appreciation, it's nice to see genuine understanding, especially when you have those random tunes running around in your head.😂
It's very obvious that there have been many conversations over the years to have such understanding. The real evidence is your (Rachel) response to Paul's playing in the previous video. Authentic appreciation is a precious gift to have in a marriage.
Paul, it is actually rare for a man (especially married) to have more than a friend or two that is more than an acquaintance. As a musician it is even more likely not to have friends because your focus is on family and honing your skills.
People tend to assume that all musicians are surrounded by friends and always partying, but in reality most are not.
See, you are not as weird as you think.🤪🤣😂🤙

LOL. Like watching a description of my life. Minus work as I am retired and the kids are grown and gone. But apart from that, my focus in life is spending time with my wife and my guitars. My friend is my wife. Always has been that way. We are fortunate that we encourage each other in activities that give us purpose. Yes the repetitive playing of phrases in a song can be annoying, but that is what doors and earphones are for. I do not take exception to the words, “hon, can you just turn it down a wee bit.”? It’s right up there with “until death do we part”.😊

That’s the one. The last time I was in Newcastle I went to PMT first. Was browsing when someone behind me said “Excuse me, can I get that guitar there please?” It was Dagan. Anyway I bought a cheap Epiphone SG then went looking for something to eat. Wandering around I noticed the arcade and thought that’s where JG Windows is. As I had a guitar from another shop I didn’t feel like going in so I adopted Mr Knopflers schoolboy approach of gazing into the window at a Strat.

Hi Rory, thanks for stopping by my wee CZcams channel. Yes, if I compare my Oswald Strat against my Custom Shop Tele…. the Strat holds its own. They booth reek of quality workmanship and sheer time spent with one (or minimal) builders. There’s nothing that looks like corner cutting. The relic’ing on both is superb, with realistic looking dings and dents. The only tiny detail that maybe pushes the custom shop ahead is the extra rolling of the fingerboard edges. Hope this helps 😊

Many well-known performers are introverts and cope by developing personas that they can express themselves through. Think Bowie, Hendrix, Prince, Dylan, Gaga, the list goes on. I play guitar fairly well and so people assume I like to perform and entertain large groups of people. To me that is suffering. I’ve done it, can do it, and would dread doing it some more. I’m an introvert and process the world from within and not through others (in general). I run a successful little global consultancy and so consider myself a high performance introvert. I’m good yes, but absolutely exhausted from each “performance”. Paul your video reminds me that it’s ok to be this way, and in fact may be the true path of the artist, to create something beautiful for its own sake and the sake of its creator. And to ultimately be comfortable with oneself, alone in a room, with nothing more than this piece of wood with six ropes attached to it (as Jan Akkerman once called the guitar). Thanks for connecting with all of us. Tom

I totally get the no/minimal friends thing. I don't desire it at all. I have started a monthly zoom with my best friend from HS, though, so we can play guitar together. We live 24hrs apart, so can't meet up in person very easily. My wife and daughter definitely like to have my attention more than the guitars, though.

Hi Paul....I can relate to the not having friends thing....a few years ago I started going out with workmates...I felt that it was the right "normal " thing to do.......basically though it boiled down to going to pubs getting drunk with people i had very little in common with......then one night I realised I had very little in common with any of them....they liked CSI Miami...I liked Wallander...they liked X factor dancing on ice in a jungle...I liked miles davis and The Who.......they liked football....I found all sports boring...they read Heat magazine and Nuts ...I read books on musicians and guitars (oh and WW2 and serial killers..lol)....quite frankly i realised the time spent with them i could be spending with my wife...4 cats ..(my kids have all left home) . Or in my musicroom...playing guitar or listening to cds.....so I stopped going...now I even decline the works Xmas Dinner...I work 40 hours a week so my free time is precious....I have no male (or female apart from my wife) freinds...I don't feel I'm missing out...quite the contrary.....I'm like you ...friendly...nice...not socially awkward....but I don't need freinds...
I think that some people who have no hobby or passion..or real interests in life do feel the need to go out...I cannot blame them for been bored stuck at home with nothing to do other than mainstream entertainment......but how could I get bored...with 13 guitars...4 amps...effects units..guitars synth...recording gear...1000s CDS...100s DVDSand boxsets...100s of books.
..also...to get good at guitar takes practice... I remember eddie van halen saying how as a teenager from 14-18 he'd sit in his bedroom with nothing but his guitar...pack of cigarettes 6 pack of beer and play....that one of the reasons (apart from him been a genius) how he got so good .. there was a advert in one of those 1980s guitar magazines I used to buy (I forget the product it was advertising)...but it depicted a musician walking out onstage to a venue full of fans...and it said..."while others partied....you stayed at home and practised....but...now its your turn to party" .. actually I have still got 10 cardboard boxes full of guitar magazines in a cupboard in my music room/ mancave....from above 1984 to 2004....if I ever got bored I could dig them out to look at....ahhh...all those adverts for Westone guitars (actually I still own a Westone thunder 1A bass...and it a fine instrument made in a now legendary Japanese factory)....peavey bandit...session and gorilla amps...aria pro and marlin guitars....Ebows (again I still own mine)....I reading the classified ads at the back of UK magazine Guitarist seeing Gibson les Paul standard for sale £400....Phil hilbourne...neville Martin... American magazines with all those poodle haired guys posing with pointy headstock guitars fretting impossible looking alan holdsworth type chord ...(yeah I too own a old 80s pointy headstock floyd Rose BB rich gunslinger and its still despite looking awful and fine guitar....in fact I feel almost guilty playing it not because it looks so cheesy...that said I think it looks kinda cool as it super tatty looking after decades of abuse.. and screams...RATT..Motley..Warrent crue...poison....Tony mcalpine...Brad gillies.. George Lynch...no...its because its so easy to play and comfortable...it almost plays its self and makes you sound better than you are...it puts up no fight...never goes out of tune....the action is so low.....lol

I don't have frineds either, I quite never know someone like me in that sense so it's curious to me, I had a girlfriend that said "play the guitar while I'm not with you" so that wasn't that fun considering she came to my house and stay for 5 to 7 days, luckily she's my ex now and I'm alone by choice and play whenever the heck I want to, you're very lucky to found your wife, she seems so nice as much as you, cheers and keep at it, regards from Argentina

Hi Paul, I have to ask, where did you get the Cornell T-shirt? They're not on their website. I also have the Romany 12 - it's my 'daily driver'. Cornell were very helpful to me recently when my '12' needed a service. So I'd like to show them some love in return. Cheers.

Yes, I got an email totally out the blue, from Denis Cornell. He mentioned that prospective purchasers of Cornell Amps sometimes mention my name and “Paul, would you like a Cornell T-shirt?”. So I said I’d be delighted! I can only assume he might be gearing up to have some merch at some point….

Hi to you and your lovely wife.
29 years I've been married, she came to see the band I was in, and that was it.
She calls my guitars "my other women" jokingly, I guess I'm lucky I get at least an hour or 2 a day to play/practice/write/ record..
As she says, "it's part of me," she loves hearing me playing at home and supports whatever band I've played in, gigs I've played.
At least I'm not down the pub, head in an xbox or sha**ing around, instead I'm spending valuable time doing what I love.
The trick is when you're not playing, devote as much attention to her as you do to your guitar, 😅
    Liked and subbed.
