Dear Paul, thank you very much. I am honored and flattered! That's so nice of you and i really appreciate all the time you spent into this. Good job and great playing! :-) I rarely comment on CZcams but a few thoughts. It's an improvised piece and i guess heavily influenced by cuban music. I am really not an expert on this, but i always loved all the Buena Vista Recordings (especially the Ibrahim Ferrer album and the Manuel Galban album). I also listened a lot to Marc Ribot and his Cubanos Postizos, which is a kind of NY-avantgarde take on cuban music. And i also hear a strong connection between these "Latin"-styles and the instrumental-guitar-twang and surfmusic of the 50s and 60s that i love so much. And of course there are jazz influences, too. All these styles are connected to one another and have a lot in common! And Paul, don't worry about the 0.5 half speed! That's what i am doing all the time...that's transcribing! Studying the music and the players we love and take as much as we can for our own development and playing. Of course! :-) Keep it coming! All the best. Tobi

It’s great to read about these influences Tobi. I had no idea where you were coming from musically, other than the obvious jazz influences. So it’s really interesting to read your words here. And maybe I’ll go download some of these artists you mention 🤔😊. For anyone else reading this thread go check out Tobi’s Instagram page, and I can definitely recommend his latest album “Slowdance” (details on Insta @tobiashoffmannmusic)

@@paulstaffordcook8799 You are doing just fine Paul. I think intrinsically we gravitate to music that touches our soul. And Tobias certainly does that. I just don’t think it is important to be as good as Tobias. Play within yourself and borrow what you can from some of these gifted musicians. I for one won’t stop listening to you because you stumble over a run of 1/64 notes. Hell,my fingers are becoming challenged by 1/4 notes. So just keep enjoying your craft and entertaining old farts like me.

Paul, Words fail me really... I've been a CZcams student and on/off guitar hack for many, many years.... Honestly, I've tried many ways to "learn" guitar too. Your teaching and enthusiasm is rare; and you are a wonderful player. It's a little like having a front row chair, with some of the guitar's most influential. I can hear a lot of stylistic influence, but don't pretend to know many of the sources you learn from... I truly appreciate the effort and insights you make available here. You truly inspire me, to dust off the budget Stratocaster again... Trust me Paul, that is High Praise indeed, coming from a very jaded and frustrated "player". I know I will be spending many hours, listening to you here and what a blessing! Your relic guitars are like guitar porn brother! Dang it you so deserve them! Sincere thanks for firing me up... You are so right about being a jazz artist doing other generes versus a blues artist doing jazz.
The intricacies and details of jazz are so sophisticated in technique and expectations compared to most other generes that many people just leave it alone. I think of jazz and classical much the same because the amount of musical knowledge expected is so much higher in most regards. Technique, expression, variation, and all of the structural rules of jazz require years of study where rock, blues, and country all share similarities in chords, style, and tone, just change the groupings and rythm, you have a different genere.
    Cheers🤙🍻

We’re not getting any younger, Paul. You and I are about the same age; I’d like to see you in a band setting. That’s what we do. Play songs. Play solos. Not just sit in a practice room and make you tube videos. I’d love to hear you play your version of Rivera Paradise. Or Round Midnight, etc. With your tone and touch, you could pull it off.
There’s a lot of guys playing along with a song, or giving instructional videos, or playing solos to full backing tracks that they’ve made. Those guys are a dime a dozen. To me.
The established guitarists are in a band on CZcams. And I don’t see a lot of that.
Keep up the good work, now in a live band situation.
Preaching to you and I’m preaching to myself.
Great touch man. Like Kenny Burrell and Larry Carlton

Hi Greg. I’ve just got round to streaming that track by Duke Levine. Man, he’s great! I hadn’t heard of him until now, so thank you for introducing me. What a lovely feeling that track has. So I’m going to be listening to some more of his stuff. Cheers Greg 👍

@@paulstaffordcook8799 that’s great Paul. I would recommend his album Beneath the Blue (on Spotify) as a starting point. The tracks Trio and Dark and Stormy Night are in your wheelhouse. Lots of his playing on CZcams too - he has a monster solo over Hold your Head up by argent that always blows me away, and a breathtaking performance of only love can break your heart. Thanks for taking the time to read and reply - you rock!

Crikey, Paul! As you know, I've always been impressed by your playing and attitude to the guitar and gear for that matter. But this? I nearly spat out my tea, man.
I have soooo much work to do. You just jumped up about 4 boss levels (gaming parlance, I gather. I don't really know).
Where's that half speed button .... ahhh there is is. And 1, 2, 3....

Thanks Ella & Stuart. Yes, it was built by Nick Oswald of Oswald Guitars in Holland. He builds mainly Tele and Strat style guitars, including the use of nitrocellulose lacquer and is quite a talent! He’s currently building me a Jazzmaster, and I’m super excited.
