To me, music's primary aim is to create emotions. And Paul is a real master to do just this. Apart from this he is a fantsatic guitarist.
Well thank you Gary! Iâm smiling reading your comment, so cheers to you đ»
True statement!
Paul, as always, every note you play has a purpose. No frills, no fluff, no unnecessary flash nor fill. Your playing takes me on a journey every single timeâŠitâs absolutely remarkable the feelings your songs emote. Youâre in a class all your own, my friend. đ
Well comments like that make all my efforts worthwhile! Thank you so much my friend, that is genuinely appreciated. I recognise you as someone who has been tuning in to my wee videos for a while, so cheers đ»
I honestly don't think anyone inspires me and depresses me on youtube as much as you. I'm trying to listen to the pedals but can't help just losing myself to the sensitivity of the playing. I've said it before and I will say it again, you are one of the best guitarists out there. Thank you, my friend - I'll deal with the depression and leave with the inspiration.
Hi Raslo. I can totally relate to what youâre saying, when I watch players like Tobias Hoffmann. I do feel that slight depressionâŠ. Like, whatâs the point, Iâll never be at that level. I must say, itâs a thrill to have you say those things about me! So I thank you so much man, I really appreciate that.

Some of the most beautiful tones I've heard on your channel and on youtube all together. Try to put a good fuzz on the mix. It is not really not necessary, but it will compliment.
Thank you Ivan, your comment has made my day! And Iâll certainly consider a good fuzz.
Good setup, somewhat similar to mine in function if not exact brands. Major difference is I have a comp/boost/eq pedal in front of the rest. Also have an EHX Attack Decay for a weird metallic cello effect. I have yet to find a trem that is compelling enough to use. Well, except for a Magnatone Stereo Twilighter but I donât have room for that monstrosity! Such are the vicissitudes of gear.
The LP Custom stole the show for me this time. What beautiful sounding guitar. The fact you dont overdo the overdrive lets me hear the character of all your great guitars. Cheers Paul đ
Thank you Graeme đ. I gotta agreeâŠ. when I watch it back, it really pops! Cheers Graeme
Colours within an artist's pallet. I decided to paint my sound with the full range of Marshall pedals, plus a cry-baby. I just love the simplicity and styling of the Marshall range of pedals, but I would like to add a Frequout for sure.
Thanks for the glimpse, Paul, still loving the sound of that Black Beauty.
Thanks Maxwellfan55. Iâm delighted you like the black beauty. Iâm a lucky man đ
Got to say Paul, your " mainstream" delay tone is awesome.I would take that any day. The rest of the board with your tasteful playing sounds wonderful. Good video thanks for sharing.
Thank you Archie! Iâm delighted you like my delay tone, especially as I donât consider myself particularly experienced with that effect. Cheers Archie đ»
Another classic video Paul! your guitar playing is so heart felt! look forward to hearing your Jazzmaster when you receive it! I have had to put 10's on my jazzmaster as it was going out of tune a lot with the 9's on there! all the best. cheer Gordon.
Thanks Gordon. Thatâs interesting about your Jazzmaster doing better with 10sâŠ. My spec sheet with Nick actually has mine with 12s, flatwound, and tuned down 1 tone to D standard. So thatâs how it will be when I unbox it. But who knows, Iâll be doing various experiments over the year to see where itâs sweet spot lies.
Amazing playing mate...that Kingsley is such a reliable pedal for sounding fantastic!! đ
Hi Joe, thank you for stopping by my wee CZcams channel, delighted you liked my playing. Actually, the Strat I was playing has a bit of Joe Perkins in itâŠ. In that you kindly answered a question on one of your own Q&A videos where you suggested I could âbeef upâ the tones on a Strat by adding base plates (telecaster style). And so thatâs what we have here and I love that guitar. So thank you Joe đ
Beautiful. I thought the sweet cream would make it on the board before the Kafir Lime. Probably couldn't go wrong either way.
Hi Kennygame. Youâre right, the Sweet Cream is a long time favourite of mine. The only reason itâs not on the main board is because Iâd class it as âfull frequencyââŠ.. and I think the Kingsley Page just pips it to the post on that front. And the Kafir Lime does a particular thing to my sunburst Les Paul, by trimming out certain bass frequencies and adding a particularly attractive set of honky mids đ
gotta love that telecaster, looks like a custom shop $$$$$$$
Thanks Sega. And yes, itâs a custom shop â52 reissue. Iâm a lucky boy.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 love your chords progression in many of your music pieces, do you use modulation often?

Love to hear a jam with PSC and Simon Jarrett. Both these guys are so musical.
Well thank you Denis. Personally, Iâd be mighty intimidated and yet thrilled. Heâs got such a âtouchâ.
I will literally watch anything with that tele in it hahaha
Only to carry on watching and get the treat of the others! Awesome stuff - by the way you demoed these pedals exceptionally well, nobody knows how hard it is to demo a pedalboard until you try it yourself, its bloody hard work to try and force it instead of them just being used in the background haha.
Thank you Paul! (And sorry for late reply, just catching up đ€Ł). I remember you saying you were a fan of that Tele on an earlier vid. Yes, itâs a real treat to face my amp and hear the Teleâs warm tones coming forth. In fact, Iâm about to upload another vid later this evening, where the Tele is the star performer. Anyway, cheers Paul đđ»
@@paulstaffordcook8799 ill go check it out! Hopefully the Oswald isnt too far away right?!
Your JR has a great sound
Thanks Dale! Yeah, it really bristles with excitement đ
Now, Paul, you gotta explain me this: how come everything you play sound so tasteful and impeccably executed? You better come up with a good answer to this... :)))
What a great question! Firstly, thank you đ . Secondly, itâs about âtouchâ and making sure that not a single note sounds amateurish. If it does? Donât play it! I did a video on this, so perhaps that will explain it czcams.com/video/bPR3FBBeAOo/video.htmlsi=Wf-dOwXJySE23ltV. Ultimately, itâs down to picking pressure, dynamics, vibrato (or deliberate lack thereof), and love for each note, as though youâre caring for it. Sorry, that was all a bit nerdy, but you get the idea đ€Ł
Beautiful playing, Paul. I love the way you have refined your rig matching individual pedals to each guitar - subtle and tasteful. The guitars are all gorgeous but the sound you have from the Oswald Strat blows me away every time you use it. Flint is one I go to a lot when going direct into the board - it seems to cover the Fender Spring and Tremolo really well and the Plate is cool. TC Electronics seem to turn out nice delays - I rely on the Alter Ego because it gives me the warbly tape delays I had when I used WEM Kopicat & Roland Space Echo in the 70s. The Effectrode Blackbird Valve Pre-Amp Pedal has become my 'always on' for 3 great Fender / Dumblish options. I think I want a Freqout now - fun, fun, fun! đ P.S. re: OD - your collection is impeccable! I will be looking into the Page & the Hagerman! I have relied on the HotCake made my my friend Paul Crowther in NZ since the 70s - recently got his 'Double HotCake' which offers 3 distinct OD sounds - I believe Mark Knopfler uses a HotCake with pretty well every guitarist in NZ!
Thank you so much Martin for those compliments. On a different note I might watch some videos of that Alter Ego pedal you talk aboutâŠ.
Paul, The Alter Ego x 4 allows you to set up 3 independent delays, e.g. Space Echo dotted 8ths, WEM slap-back, Echoplex 8th notes and flip between them with the foot switches with the 4th switch for Tap Tempo - great for live work.
MatĂ© anything you play sounds great, I really like the tube overdrive, but letâs face reality you could play a inexpensive guitar and amp and it would sound amazing !
Thank you Jeff, I appreciate that đ»
Hey Paul, Christmas is coming!đđđ€Ł
Clearly you have the pedals that make your world go round.
Funny how you don't miss the short stayers from last year and can't live without the ones you kept.

Actually it's just a reminder that regardless of all the opinions out there, what we like is what we like.

Hi Paul great sounding pedals! Now, if you could just get serious and learn to play those guitars, hehehe. As always I love your playing my friend. That combination of the R9 (?) and the Kafir Lime-and whatever other variables - sounds like Mark Knopfler tone.. Those are some delicious tones Paul!
Thanks Chuck. And yes, I think youâve hit the nail on the head with the R9 / Kafir Lime sounding like Knopfler tone. I watched Brothers in Arms âLive in Berlin 2007ââŠ. And bingo, thatâs the tone I hear when I play that combination. Iâm delighted you noticed đ
some tasty stuff there boy, of course the strat's ma fav but that custom has got something special going on. Well thank you Charlie, and Iâm delighted you liked how the LP Custom soundedâŠ. I agree. By the way, you make a good point about how things would change at gig volumeâŠ. Iâd be curious to find out. I guess I should join a band and find out đ€Ł
I've recently bought a Tone City Golden Plexi and its the best "Marshall in a box" I've ever played from sweet cleans to the full Van Halen
Hi Ben. Yeah, these Tone City pedals can be awesome, and such a great price and a small footprint too.
I'll never get rid of my V1 Strymon Flint. It's the only pedal I use (I have a wah if needed and an El Cap but it's rarely used). It's an always on pedal for me.
You're an inspiration Paul. Pedals are fine, gears are nice, but your playing is very melodic, full of musical nuances and lively harmonies. Your touch on the guitar just sounds pure, genuine and I love your honest approach to music in general. I don't know if you consider yourself a spiritual person, but to me, this touch, and this amount of musicality only flows from within someone who has a spiritual inner life indeed... Cheers!
Wow, a big smile appeared on my face there, as I read your words! Itâs funny, I AM on a bit of a journey as regards spirituality, so itâs very interesting to me that you picked up on that. Spirituality is such a personal and private thing and so I never really speak about it. But the subject is very interesting to me and I watch lots of CZcams videos around spirituality, mindfulness, and stories from those who have had near death experiences. Letâs just say I believe I am a spiritual being, who is down here having a human experience. And Iâm loving it.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 Exactly. To be honest, and as you said it yourself, there is no need to 'talk' about THAT which stands beyond language... Hello Paul,

I don't own any pedals - yet - but was wondering, a bit like Desert Island Discs, if you were forced to pick just three pedals to keep from both boards, which ones would you choose?
Thanks again,
John
What a great question LankisherJohnâŠ.. OK, my 3 desert island pedals would be: Strymon Flint, Kingsley Page, and my Kafir Lime. A man could go far with these 3 and be extremely satisfied.
@4:44 ...at least I know you're not OCD
That Custom is a thing of beauty my friend. You ever hook that board up through the Boss Katana?

@@paulstaffordcook8799 Thanks so much! I thought they were lighter, surprisingly you manage to be so expressive, with bending and vibrato, even with higher gauges⊠well done!
what amp are you using in this video?
Hi Hdrk. Itâs my Cornell Romany 12. Iâve had it for a few years now and I just love it. Perfect for bedroom volume valve tones.
Paul, very beautiful sounds and inspiring playing, as always. How do you describe the Page vs Broadcast used as a boost? What do you like more on the Page?⊠I own a Broadcast but the Page is really tempting⊠I also play a Cornell amp but it is a Plexi 7 :-)
Hi Sergio. Yes, Iâd say the Pageâs specialty is to bring valve âwarmthâ to your signal. And the nature of the Overdrive is full frequency (as opposed to cutting bass etc). Itâs best described asâŠ.. well, âgorgeousâ. And very âlow gainâ. The Broadcast however has a stronger personalityâŠ.. it specialises in bringing the slightly âlo-fiâ tones from recording consoles from the 60âs. Itâs also lovely and warm but it definitely has an almost fuzzy hint to the tone. I applaud it for that. And I love that itâs not âtransparentâ (like a Greer Amps Lightspeedâ). Hope this helps đ
@@paulstaffordcook8799 thanks Paul for taking the time to produce such a detailed response. Your âgorgeousâ classification will make things hard for me to let the Page pass by :-).
@@SergioAureo Well whatever you do, DONâT watch Simon Jarrettâs videos demoâing itâŠ. Or youâll be reaching for credit cards left right and centre. That man could make a lemon sound incredible.
@@paulstaffordcook8799 problem is: I already watched them đ
Do you have a reason for keeping your power supply on top using up pedal space ?
Hi StephenandVyn. Yes, my Zuma allows for 8 pedals, no more. And so Iâm at full capacity. Since I canât power any more pedals I may as well use the available space on the board to display the Zuma. This also allows me better access to the cables that run to and from the brick, which makes trouble shooting or changing pedal connections a little easier. I also like the look of the Zuma, itâs quite attractive. I guess I could power more than 8 pedals by using daisy chains etcâŠ. but no, less is more. Eight pedals is more than enough đ
@@paulstaffordcook8799 That makes perfect sense, thanks. Also the pedaltrain looks similar to mine so maybe you would have to modify it to raise it high enough to give clearance for the power supply underneath like I had to do for my 1 spot.
Auld yin, I've realised I've been neglecting you with the gags lately so here's a ahem catch up 1. A old fella is walking through the park when he sees a huge rottweiler coming towards him, he starts panicking but it starts humping his leg, he says "get off me you big ugly bastard ", the dog starts growing and snarling, he says "ok then, be as quick as you can ". 3. Fella gets home from work and his missus asks " did you enjoy your sandwiches today Darling ?", he says "actually no, what was that filling ?", she says "crab paste", he says "where did you get it from ?", she says "The CHEMIST". Take care kid.
