I grew up with one of these pushing a 1950’s fiberglass P 17 . Amazing torque could easily pull up Multiple skiers . Owned through the 1970’s with frequent use in California. She never broke down or failed to start and run perfectly. That sound brings back so many great memories
We had a '58 Lark 35 on a Glasspar Avalon. It had a single rack and pinon steering. We later added a '62 Starflite IV that was hard on the steering system.
OH Thank You for posting this....Grew Up with one of these on my dad's 18' 1955 Blue Star Boat (Miami, OKLA)...I love how they sound like a little V8 when idling! - My Dad Passed away 12/09/12 and I haven't heard it run since before then. - I still Have the boat/motor but its likely in bad shape. - Ours the lock on the tilt was broke so if you gave it too much throttle in reverse it would tilt up and make a sound MUAGHHHHHMOUGH! - I guess the Timing Belt for the Magneto is almost unobtainium!
Looks and runs great, Chris! I still haven't gotten my Flying C done. I'm starting to work at it again though. I just bought a 1959 Meyers 12WT recently. I need to get tonthe lake with it. It's a pretty cool little boat. I put my electric start 1959 Evinrude Golden Jubilee Fastwin on it. It's a 12 foot aluminum runabout with tail fins and it was built 4 miles from my house right here in my town. It's rated for 18hp max but it's only a 133 lb hull. It would scoot along pretty well and be pretty fun on the water. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! That engine is in great shape now. Tons of tourqe. It takes a while to get a boat completed I'd like to see that little boat you bought. Ive seen one similar to what you are talking about.
Nice motor friend had a 35HP Lark same year and we hit a log as kids in the1960S .The whole wooden transom broke off motor held by the steering cables was lucky still on the transom. Fixed the boat & pickled the motor back at it again .We were kids nothing stopped us. Nice video first time I heard a Fat Fifty run.We use to call them early V-4s Robot Heads. The 1958 35 Larks were sweet too funny hood design concept though...Glenn
@@christate1974 I could just imagine having one of those FatFiftys in 1958 brand new you would be the envy of all your friends,HA. comparing it to this video and seeing it run sweet & very quiet like yours. Thank God gas was cheap then,LOLL! This was the beginning of a great motor design for OMC with V-4S than later the V-6S &V8S..... regards Glenn
@@OutBoardTink62 you would definitely have all eyes on you back in 58 with one of these! Anytime I take an old motor out to the lake someone always stops me to ask what it is lol as with any old motor I have. It's usually the old timers, and that makes me happy knowing I brought back a memory for them.

These motors were a great step up from the 35's at the time. Yes they had a ton of torque and were great on heavy boats. Loved gas though.
Finally a video of the 1958 Evinrude Fat-fify on youtube! I've been looking for this for years :) Congratulations with a very nice motor

Nice video. Would love to hear about and see more about your Aluma Craft Deep "C". I have a 1956 Deep "C" I'm slowly bringing back.
Chris Tate do you have a key start for that I'm trying to get mine wired to key start but can't get the wiring right
Yes it's turn key. You have to have the wiring harness and solonoid box
Hey Chris, I have the exact same motor I'm rehab'n. What colors did you paint it?
Go to eBay and search reprotint paint
I've got one that I'm putting in the water tomorrow. What kind of fuel economy do you get I've heard they love gas !
