Really enjoyed this video, just got a 50s Johnson seahorse 10 my self it’s my first outboard. I wish my grandpa lived close enough for us to remodel it together.

This reminded me so much of my brother and I. We had a bevy of nice old engines, mainly Johnsons and Evinrudes. We weren't collecting them at the time, those oldies were the only ones we could afford. Back in the the 60-70's we picked them up for a song, fixed them up and used them then sold them. My favorite of all was a Johnson 18 hp, made in the early 60s. We would throw that in the trunk of his car, go to the Everglades and rent a sturdy johnboat and roar down those canals for miles. Thanks.

These engines are beautiful, great collection. I remember when most of them were made. Sadly, our great outboard makers are disapearing for the same reason our car companies are. U.S. citizens are buying Japanese. I never, never will do that. I see more Yamaha, Suzuki, Honda and other non U.S. outboards each year. Johnson, Evinrude and all of our wonderful makers are gone with the exception of good old Mercury. They are still hanging in there. I have a nice 1957, Mercury Mark 20, 16 hp. Looks and runs great.

Thanks for sharing your collection of outboards. I remember the British Seagull was favored by sailors as an auxiliary motor. They were advertised in sailing magazines.

Wow, real nice collection of vintage motors, you and your son must get a lot of enjoyment working together on them! My dad taught me everything I know about engines, get a lot of enjoyment working on them myself. He used to have a 1960 Johnson 5.5, wishes he'd kept it to share with me. We found a 1959 18hp, nice white trim, have it all apart to paint white, hope we'll get to reassembling it sometime soon. I helped my neighbor get his 'Holiday Bronze' 1956 Johnson 30HP Javelin running a few years ago after sitting more than 35 years in their boat house, real proud of that! He's letting me use it on my boat for the time being until he finds a boat to put it on, real nice of him. I made a great movie of it, check it out.
The older they are, the better I like 'em. Glad you're keeping 'em running, they may be oldies, but they sure are goodies! Cheers, Bellarmine

One of my brothers has a green Johnson 5 made just after WWII. Unfortunately, OMC discontinued the ignition coils for it and we never did get it to run properly. If it were just a couple of years newer we'd have been able to get coils and it would still be in use today.

I use to own a 5 horse clinton outboard motor . But now im going to buy a older evinrude after seing that the newer outboards are made in china . All three of the major outboard makers do the same thing . One company in china makes them all for the three major outboard makers now .
