How NOT to Fix your Garage Door (Extended Short)

Well I did not expect this to get so sketchy.
This is just the longer version of my recent short. It's getting hard to fit everything I'm doing into 60 seconds, so I want to make the longer cut available!

As a door tech all I can really say is you're lucky to not have had an "accident", that warning label and the red fasteners are there for a reason. I wouldn't recommend that anyone with no knowledge of the dangers involved attempt this, people have lost their lives doing it.

We've got a 12 by 14 foot one of those kinds of doors at the shop. The day that one of those springs decided to snap was quite memorable, as the spring would have very likely achieved a low-earth orbit if it hadn't been for the steel upright of the building.

I have the older type garage door with the springs on the sides. I've replaced door openers before but was having a tough time with my latest one and couldn't get the door balanced properly. Then I called a pro and it was fixed correctly in a couple of hours which included his drive time!
Sometimes it pays to call a pro.
