    As a second safety, I place vice grips tight against the wall on each end of the tensioner tube. There are cases when the garage door cannot be lowered to be able to place the steel bars on the spring. In that case, I've raised the door all the way up and push the door further up on the bad side and use two (or one) screw drivers to slip the cable back on the roller.. Then take it down, wind correctly and add more tension with the bars. There has to be good tension at the bottom to be able to raise the door and not burn out you motor.This is all dangerous stuff so have to be on your toes.

    I have the same situation (left drum came unraveled) but I have 2 torsion springs. Same process? Just focus on left side of door?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 8 měsíci +1

      You want to watch a couple more videos to be safe as there are a bunch of variations of the repair. The process is similar though you‘ll be dealing with more tension with 2 springs so it’s very important to have the correct tools.
      A good repair company should only charge a hundred or two to fix this and is what I’d recommend.

    My garage torsion spring broke after 18+ years, so I ordered another spring using the SAME SIZE shown on the broken spring. Installed it on my 8ft door which requires 33 to 34 turns. I’m up to around 45 quarter turns and when I lift the door halfway it falls to the floor. I noticed that this new spring did not expand out as far as the previous spring. It’s about 3-eighth inch short of the indentation mark of the old spring. Should I do 33 quarter turns and tap spring to stretch it out to the old spot on the shaft?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 9 měsíci

      32-34 quarter turns is what’s required for the 8ft tall doors, if the spring isn’t lifting the door it’s either the wrong spring or placed on the wrong side. The spring has to be placed the correct direction.
      One way to tell is to look at the wire end where you wind the spring. It should be facing the header not you. Hope that makes sense

    About 3 months ago or so I had to replace an OLD cable due to rust at the loop. Your tutorial was very helpful - thanks.
    A year prior to that I replaced the cable on the other side with a brand NEW cable, and it snapped at the loop due to rust.
    My QUESTION is will I be required to replace these cables annually due to rust? Or is there something else I should be doing as a preventative measure? For example applying WD-40 directly on the loop after it has been installed?
    Unfortunately, water does pool in my garage by the cable loops; so that doesn't help. The rubber for the base of the garage door is worn, so that might explain water pooling in the garage.
    I live in Ontario, CANADA; so any suggestions and/or thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 5 měsíci +2

      Hey there. The cables should be lasting 15+ years so I’d say the water issue needs to be dealt with first and foremost

    • @GarageDoorGuidance

    i have similar problem. But i have two car standard door with two springs. from what i see both the springs still have the tension in them.(same winds on both) which makes me think both springs are attached to same horizontal bar. And your solution should work. Since i have two springs do you think i should use two sets of winding bar and do exactly what you did @1:16 but with two springs at same time.(may be with help of friend on the other side)?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 4 měsíci

      No, do not do that. It works the same way when there are two springs it’s just twice as strong. Be very careful if you’re going to attempt this and also watch multiple videos so you have a good understanding of this type of repair

    • @stevkoria
      @stevkoria Před 4 měsíci

      @@GarageDoorGuidance ohh you mean do not follow your steps? I saw multiple videos but most of them had lost tension in their springs .. mind seems to be present. Yours closely match with the problem I have.. I accidentally removed the cable while installing foam insulation on garage door .. and the door is tilted as one side of cable is now holding the door and trying to pull up.

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If you follow the steps you should be able to do it but again be very careful and cautious with every step. You may need to tighten both sides once the tension is resting on the bar.
      Depending where you are it shouldn’t too much to get someone over to fix it if you weren’t trying to deal with the tension and danger. Could be worth calling around and asking

    • @stevkoria

      @@GarageDoorGuidance thanks when you say tighten both sides you mean the drums screws or the springs? Also since I have two springs do I do same step on both sides or just one side.. if one which side?

    • @GarageDoorGuidance
      @GarageDoorGuidance  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Drums, don’t touch the spring screws at all. One side and you can do it from either side. Keep in mind this something that can cause serious harm. Proceed with extreme caution
