Hey man! About a year ago i watched this video, and you completely sold these headphones to me. They have been sitting on my head for about 6h a day almost every day since then! Damn i love them!! Just wanted to say a big thank you for making that video, they have been making my days and my music better since i got them!!
Update around 2 years later :
Yes i still absolutely love them and spend my days with them! They didn't even break, started to sound bad, the ear pads are still great! Just get these headphones.
@@xJM1993 started to sound bad?
@@worldofliar9368 nope, haven't noticed any change! I use them daily for playing guitar and listening music (mostly metalcore if that matters) and they still sound great, no weird noise or anything!
@@xJM1993 i just quote ur comment tho XD
@@xJM1993 u said u use for 6 hours.. is it straight 6 hours? if yes i m gonna ask if u experience any fatigue? cause i use superlux before and its fatigue to me
I've used a pair of the originals for drum tracking, and personal listening pleasure for close to 15 ish years. I've had them so long that I have no idea. I've heard plenty higher cost options over the years, and I've yet to be impressed enough to replace them, and they are beaten down like a junkyard dog, but still sound and function perfectly. I bought a new pair as a gift for my niece, who us also a drummer, and she loves them. She gave up on in ears and uses the hd's for all of her live gigs now. They're like a hammer and screwdriver to a carpenter. No bs, they just work.
Solid ambient dampening, and decent clamp force to keep them in place while moving strike me as good features for a drummer!
Agreed. The 280s just lasted and lasted for me and they were treated so roughly! Must be over 10 years now that I've had them, the newer model looks like a go!
I just realized that everyone wears HD280 Pro's on the Joe Rogan podcast lol
Makes sense since they have good isolation.
Jamie pull that up
I've often wondered if open backs would work well in a podcast environment. Anyone have good reasons/arguments against that?
280Pros are the industry standard for broadcast and studio monitoring. Family Guy uses these when recording voice tracks.
@@outerreality8227 the microphones might pick up sound leakage from the open headphones

Ladies and gentlemen, we got him.
These were also the first real headphones i've had. I really like them. I dont know about the old model but for these new ones the left ear stopped working after a year. I sent them back to sennheiser and they got me a new pair right away.
I went to Akihabara in Tokyo to buy the Sennheiser HD25 and when I listened to the HD280Pro I had to buy both..... The first for portable devices around Tokyo with all its noises and the 280PRO at home in my bedroom with my THX789 where my wife is always complaining about the music being too loud with my others closed headphones. Not longer the case... now I have an earmuff that sounds like an open headphone and the sound coming out from it is MAJESTIC.
How do they compare to my koss electrostatics ?
@@rumples2698 sorry did not hear those from koss but I heard many of the Stax lineup and I fund them to be too shouty with highs and not enough mid and low frequencies... Not my cup of cake electrostatic at least from Stax.
Is the bass on these good? Im trying to find a good mid-term between gaming and music (i listen mostly to rap, most types of house and occasionally some piano music) you think these would fit my needs?
@@mashmeloazul HD280 pro is all you need. Its fantastic. The HD25 is also very good but painfull to the years. The bass is very good on both.
@@pedecia I have kph30i, thanks to zeos. And I want one closed back headphone to complement my koss. And I have nothing else to play my music on except my LG g7. Will these two Keep me satisfied for few years until I graduate and start earning? They are on amazon for 69 refurb. Thanks in Advance! :)
I used these on my days of audio recording in film making. They are sturdy and last forever. They have sick passive noise canceling.
@PSG Striker Yeah, I've been looking at these for the past couple days, on Amazon, and most critical reviews say the right side goes after a couple months to about a year. I guess Sennheiser went cheap on soldering or something with the new models.
Listening on my 280 pros. Changed the pads once years ago. These are my oldest decent headphones. I played wow with them for more hours than I'm willing to admit.
what pads you get? do you like em?
@@seikochristopherward9908 just replacement Sennheiser pads.
@@Cappurnikus damn, the stock pads arent that comfortable for me
These were my first good headphone. I used them for 7 years and used them extensively on the road when DJing. They're a classic. The noise attenuation is real, no other passive beats it unless you plug your ears. These are a very clear and revealing headphone especially for $100. And they can be comfortably driven by a phone. Great commuter for the $.
how are they for casual listening of music, especially electronic music?
6:48 I used these on my old sub when I was in the navy as a sonar tech. They are not standard issue, we had to buy them online. After an 8 hour watch these would feel like they were about to crack my skull from the clamping force. They are also indestructible. We had them for about 3.5 years. We replaced them with some audiotechina that started breaking in about 3 months.
This pair is like the best value ever, still using it today even when i can afford better stuff
i would say "better" is relative - in terms of audio clarity and accuracy, you really can't get better headphones than sennheiser 280 pros - not for any price.
The non detachable cable is what's impeding me of buying these cans.
@@robertoperalta4319 modding them with a detachable cable isn't too hard. either way, they're still the best quality-to-cost ratio you can get in any pair of headphones on the market. i've had other phones with detachable cables and, honestly, i don't miss them.
@@ActuallySanFrancisco i have the ath m40xs they sound nice honestly pretty good tbh but they arent the best obviously do you think the senn 280 is an upgrade
@@mastertrey4683 audio technical definitely makes very solid stuff as well. that said, having listened to both, i definitely prefer the 280 pros.
HD280 old model was most people's first love, first introduction to studio quality headphone monitor!
it was my 1st love, mine last for donkey years, I glued it, tapped it, even kept it when it was no more repairable.
I think i will buy the new model just for sentimental purpose, lol.
it was my first pair of nice headphones. after i bought them i didnt like em. but i kept them. I used a bunch of headphones since then. i recently pulled them out of the drawer, and i like em lul. funny how that works
Had a few in my booth for clients. These things are solid. Some lasted almost 10 years. Sound okay for monitoring. I'll buy some of the new ones and see.
Like the review, Love the energy.
It feels as if he is genuinely wanting people to understand the greatness of this product.
P.S. this review convinced me to buy this headphone....
How do you like them after 7 months? I have had mine a since before this video, love em.
For the record, these are what I use to audition new tubes in my tube amps (REAL tube amps, not hybrid!). Don't wanna date myself, but I've been tube-rolling with an HD280 since 2007. Previously, I was using a Sony V6 for tube-rolling, which is also good. This is Vicky❤️Headphones and I approve Z's message!
@Alessandro LinuxBSD DarkVoice 336SE, La Figaro 339i, Feliks Euforia. Clamping force is 6 Newtons - very tight and appropriate for studio use. How long can you wear it will depend on your personal comfort levels. For me, it's ~3 hours.
As a 7506 longer term user, I absolutey adore the sound of the V6!
You should buy the old model and see if they sound the same as you remember with your fancy amps and whatnots.
why? they do sound the same, Sennheiser says it in the description they are the same in the sound area.
I thought he was saying in the video that the new model sound better then the old.
This was the first video I ever watched from Z. this is where my story started.
I have mines since 2004 ! NO ISSUES , only pads are gone, very reliable product. Very happy customer.
So....I guess when I bought these last month("new" ones...didn't realize there was a difference...)I absolutely fell in love with them. I never used the "old" ones, so I didn't have the benefit of comparison as you did Zeos. To be honest, I'm glad I didn't because I probably wouldn't have bought the "new" ones if I did. Few if any non electronically noise cancelling headphones can tune out The Bronx as well as these can. The signature is really, really good. I love 'em.
Eyes pop out when you did the 360 degree spin around your streaming room.
Zeos always make the R and L labels a bigger deal than it really is lol
cable is L
I don't even buy a lot of headphones and amazon is always trying to suggest headphones to me.
It's because I do *so* much price searching every time Z puts out a video. 🤣
Surprisingly accurate
Picking mines up tomorrow since my uncle recommended these to me and wanted to watch a review. This just made me EXCITED to just fall deep into sounds.
I have spent so many hours of my life wearing 280s. Bought my first pair in 2008 or so for field recording. Really fell in love with them for general use when I took them on a plane. They are definitely monitors, though, and most people will want to up the bass for music.
Tube amp idea is very interesting!
I bought these a few days ago and from a point of view of low, mid and high frequencies they are balanced. I was afraid they won't match my expectations but they did. They are not the best, professional headphones but for its price you get a decent audio quality and sturdy built in quality.
The HD 280s will never diiie!!! lol I still have them in my collection til this day.
This was my first headphones back in the early 2012-13. still have them
@PSG Striker the old model
I wore completely through a pair of these that I bought in '08 and finally discarded in '19.
I found a pair at a thrift shop in mint condition, with case and all, for $10. Now I'm particularly glad I found it haha.
had 3 pairs over 15 years using it for drumming. Great headphones!
wearing these soundmuffs right now listening to your spicy-ass nasally voice, Z
I remember watching the famous original 280 Pro and M50 reviews. OG status
Also if you want another good Sennheiser try the HD 471. It shocked Tyll and myself alike
I went into guitar center the other today and they had a bunch of headphones out on display for demo. A bunch of them were the audio technicia m series, beyerdynamic Dt 770 (that was under powered), The AKG 371 and the cheaper one 😅 and a few sennheisers (HD 25, 300 and 280) . I found the 280 pros was way less harsh then everything else except for the 300s which sounded Bassy and too dark.I saw this review before all of this and I wanted to try the 280s thinking maybe they would be too dark but they were just enough. I’ve never owned any Sennheiser before I’m thinking the 280 pro would probably be my first. It seems to be very balanced headphone to my ears.
kexp has helped me find so many new artists
And they have used the 280's for years in their studio.
i watched your review, shit had me dying the whole time, & never wanting headphones to arrive at my house as bad
Oh well, I, too, used HD280 Pros for more or less 10 years... until I found what "air" and "soundstage" was.
...I'll have to buy the new version then.
Me and my brother both got headphones one year for xmas, I got mdr v6s, he got the 280s, 280s are great but in my opinion he v6s are much better.
More than 6 months ago? Then it should be a rematch!
how are they comfort-wise ? As a side note do you wear glasses ?
I just got a pair of these for 7 bucks at an Amazon outlet store!
dude I just watched this review and I was laughing my ass off ... then I bought the dam things for mixing .. I ain't mixing nothing until they show up based on your word ... 3 days to delivery .. thanks
Do you do music production? How have the hd280 pros been so far for you? I just got mine today and I'm excited to use them
@@MikeTheGreatCC12 how are they??? I don't know whether I should get these..need headphones for music production, DJing and just chilling listening to music
@@glbrdko I've been using them for nearly 2 months now and so far I'm really enjoying them. These were my first ever studio headphones so I don't know how well they compare with other headphones. I will be honest, when I first started using them I was a bit dissatisfied for a few reasons. First, the sound quality is not the best. Second, the low frequencies sound a bit low. Third, the headphones weighed a bit more heavy than I thought they would. Those were the only issues I had during the first week of use. After the first week, I got used to them and those first impression issues that I had at first are no longer there. You get used to the sound quality, and raising the volume a bit helped me better hear the low frequencies Even though they seemed a bit heavy, they are super comfortable. So far, I have had no issues with comfortability. Once you get used to them you will love them. Also, I remembered that these are STUDIO headphones so that means your getting the raw sound of what your hearing. There's no boosting or enhancing frequencies like there is on regular consumer headphones. This is good because it makes you create a more balanced and even mix. For $80 dollars these headphones are not bad and I feel like they are gonna last me a long time. I hope that helped you with your decision to but these headphones. I'm sorry for the long comment, lol. If you have any other questions, I'd be glad to answer them!
@@MikeTheGreatCC12 Thanks a lot man! Take care and have a nice day! ❤
21:20 No need to look for the letters R and L The cord is always attached to the left earphone!
Just to say that I used my 380 Pro for 8 years. Starting to look for replaced then, since I'm already need another cable.
I just bought mine, and I'm mindblowing! But now I'm looking for a headphone amp to use these when I want to listening music. Any suggestions?
I bought the Sennheiser HD280pro back in 2014 and have been using it ever since. They've been the best headphones I've used in my entire life and I don't plan on switching.
PSA: If you wear glasses after a few years the earcup skin (that thin garbage bag thing) it will start to blister than eventually rip, though they're still usable after it occurs
got them, they are really that great. imaging, separation, isolation, pacing - impressive. soft sound to use for long time but not muffled at all. few minutes of brain burn in when you start the session, and they sound super clear. prefer them in almost all cases to 1more triple and msr7. recommend for fps and guitar music
thank you Z!!!!
Is the bass on these good? Im trying to find a good mid-term headset/headphone between music and gaming, i like bassy music (rap, different types of house and occasionally some piano music) will these fit my needs?

You dont need to listen to them all but this will give you a good idea of what i listen, and i really appreciate you doing that for me btw :)
@@mashmeloazul ok man, i listened. i know that lovers of this kind of music would prefer much more bass. on 280pro it's there, but just enough and it's fast, only to accentuate the rhythm which is useful for tracking. but even bright msr7 sound bassier to me. soon Zeos gonna release review of hd300 pro, which is the successor to 280, maybe try your luck there. but really you could get hyperx cloud silver on sale for 50 bucks or even under and be done with them. they are well built and bassy thanks to give 53mm diaphragm. don't look that it's a gaming headphones, it's originally a budget studio monitor (takstar pro80). i think you would enjoy those.

Review audio technica MSR7b- its balanced msr7.
With iFi zen dac it sounds great.
That's exactly what I have right now. I got the headphones on Christmas and this week i got the Zen DAC. They are now like the best f@#k buddies. The Zen DAC is limited at imputs but is perfect for a PC audio replacement. Probably that's why it has only usb in. But the best thing is that was specifically made for balanced headphones. And the MSR7b was built as a balanced headphones mainly even though it also has a 3.5 single ended cable. The 4.4 balanced will become more popular this year.
@Zonas is Okee I don't have the unbalanced ones, but people say that the balanced ones are more towards mid/high
and may sound for many less 'bassy' but have a bit more separation/dynamics ,
but the MSR7b has quite enough bass if the source is good,
and when I mean a good source I mean a good DAC that has a very good control over the bass and the Ifi Zen DAC does it very good.
my next buy! The tubes, well, maybe after a few years, but i wil be already with the headphones hahahaha Greetings from Argentina Z! Have a great day!
Hahahaha, I dig the approach. My 9 year headphones were some kinda Sony somethings. Now I figured I should get something that sounds good, and these were the most commonly recommended for clear sound reproduction without coloring the sound.

I had the 280 pros, I got them around 2005, and they blew my mind at the time. I wore them until all the padding started flaking off, and then eventually lost them. Loved those things.
great review I just ordered my replacement pads for my pxc 550's might pick up a pair of hd 280s too.
These seems like a good affordable pair to get for portable music production. From a quick look, it seems to have a somewhat flat response too!
I have my original pair going on 9 years 84 dollars from Amazon. The headband pad has seen it's day and been removed but they still work.
yep, you've convinced me, these are my first big boy headphones. I got a semi decent sony receiver for my record player setup, but I just use Bluetooth for music that's not through speakers, and so these will be a nice change of pace I think
I'm on my second set of HD280 Pros. 1st set was provided by my employer some 7 yrs ago, and I've absolutely loved them ever since. I will say I hate the cord, and they are fatiguing through a whole day of work. But I love the sound and the noise attenuation...
That's awesome. I just ordered these. Just getting started here in producing my own music and since I was new I bought some of the wrong stuff. A sales man at guitar center pushed both AKG headphones and a AKG microphone. Affordable yes but the headset is just completely unusable for mixing. The problem with them is that they make everything sound great. It's an extreme far cry from what the mix is actually going to sound like in a car or anywhere else that people are going to listen. I'm getting these delivered in a day to me and hopefully all my frequency issues are finally resolved because I am in a headphones only living situation so it's the only way I can mix.
I was almost decided on the K371 or 361s but the QC issues kind of threw me off those; now hearing these are supposed to block out a bunch of noise I think I would prefer these. The comfort of the K361s sounds enticing but the main reason I want some closed back headphones is to block out the noise when it gets loud at home. Think I will get these instead. Don't work in a noisy office but I have an irrational level of irritation when it comes to outside noises far too often. Just ordered these; hoping they do the trick.
Hmm, now I'm thinking of getting a tube amp, don't want to spend too much though. Nobsound NS-08E is only 50 bucks; I hear the stock tubes aren't great, but those could be replaced.
You talked me into it. I'll purchase them through your link...thanks. You're entertaining!
Was looking for a hd 280 pro review video, clicked on this one first... best fucking review of anything ive witnesses lmao his reaction are so authentic
Was late to the party. Been binge watching since before Christmas.Have spent a few bucks already on some IEM's and now think i might wasnt to pick a pair of these up for mixing and bass practice. was using a pair of AKG K92's but needed some more "bass" so i sold them and picked up a used pair of Sony MDR XD200's for $10 and they are fine but might change it up. Thanks for these informative and entertaining reviews.
Glad to find someone else who rode the HD280 Pro curve. I think I got my first pair as soon as they were released. 1999? 1998? I don't remember. You forgot to mention how you had to gaff tape the mouth of the headband through which the strap travels because it always used to crack.

Ya man 280s were great!
I use to like a 10 -12 yes and they very very good for this price ! A lot of sound studio used they, and if you wont to change Replacement Cushion Ear Pads - Embouchure you can to found on Aliexpress very good quality. I bought again new ones in Canada, cost 100 CAD - $ 80. FOR FUCKING 80$ NEW VERY GOOD HEADPHONES !!!
Only one thing - the quality of embouchure and and strips on the head, better on old one - german version ...
In Russian ( Баба яга ) - BABA YAGA...
I was actually going to get a pair of these for my voiceover work. I wanted a nice closed and in your face headphone to really shove the flaws in my face so I know what really needs to be fixed. Now that you're saying they sound open I'm a bit wary about getting them. Are they still a good choice for mixing? Or if I really wanna punish myself to hear EVERYTHING right in my ear holes should I just get the m50x for work cause I already have other headphones for pleasure and gaming?
I love my 280s, I have three pairs. The first pair I paid full price, the two other pairs I got used on eBay as a lot for ~$50. Two of the three pairs are the newer version that are fine, the third pair is the older version and is my favorite, they have just a bit more sparkle in the highs then my others. My feeling is that if they are fine for use in a studio as monitoring headphones, they are more than fine for CZcams videos and recorded music. One thing about wearing them is that you need to be aware of your surroundings as people can be shouting your name and with music going you will never hear them....that includes smoke detectors and fire alarms.
SO four sound quality alone these are a good buy? For music movies etc? Thanks
I've had mine since 2004 and still use it daily. Tried 'upgrading' a few times to other headphones and using those for a few months, but then I compare them to the HD280 again I switch back to the HD280s.

Would it be a good idea to change the pads of these? If so, how should I look for the proper pads?
Really enjoyed this video, hopefully I'm getting my pair today ❤️
Thanks for the vid. Where do you get your short 1/4" TRS extensions? The ones connevted to your amp? Those seem like a great idea for preventing wear and tear on the ports
How do you compare these vs the Sony MDR 7506?
the 280 pros were also my first pair of expensive headphones and they were recommended on DJ forums since the cups rotate and can block out lots of noise. a few headphones later i also felt betrayed and started to tell everyone to buy sony 7506's instead. now i'm interested in this new pair, but maybe it's just nostalgia talking.
How are the sony 7506's? I just got my hd280 pros today and I'm excited to use them.
Hi I would like to know which one would be the better between this new Sennheiser HD280 pro, Status Audio CB-1 and the ATH-M40x? Lets say for serious gaming... If you have a better pair for 100$ budget let me know plz

Listened to the review, looked for the price on Amazon, told to myself : "You got a fantastic pair of Philips SHP9500 a few days ago, you don't need those Sennies (at least not now)".
Finally ended up ordering an Antlion Gaming mouse mat just because I saw it in the video hahaha
That literally sounds like me though, the whole literal intro, who can relate?
Are they generally better than ATH-M40x and Shure SRH 840 for mixing/monitoring?
None of the above, akg k361

Oof, now i'm thinking about changing my old HD280's on new one's...
I did that 2 years ago 2018, BIG difference. highly recommend, I got a tube amp and a LG V20, sounds way better on both.
@@beyonder1780 now I have tin t4 and I'm not shure I need another pair of headphones in near future, but thanks for description
I never understood the rant on L/R earcup markings on Sennheiser's. They're marked with "Sennheiser" along the top of the headband. If you can read it, you're holding them correctly. It it's upside down, you're holding them incorrectly. End of story & end of the need to locate L?R markings.....
What would your current recommendation be for best headset for gaming (with or without mic) in the max 150 dollar range. now that these new hd280 are there. also for positional audio would you recommend open back or closed back ? i do currently have a old but still properly functioning Sony TA-FE370 amp that i can use to power the headset.
Just bought them right now because of you and the price is insane @ $99.
