    Great review on some classic headphones. While I was attending Full Sail in Orlando (10 years ago lol) these headphones were apart of our “launch box” kit. Basically the reason they supplied these is because all of the parts were user replaceable. I still have mine to this day yet the pads are dry rotting. I think they are great for monitoring vocals or doing some foley out in the field. But not for making music or anything where you need accuracy. I agree they are a standard in anyone’s kit. Also great collaboration !!

    I went for the Phillips SHP9600’s, absolutely love them. Efficient, good build quality, amazing sound. Quickly progressed to Sennheiser Game One’s (HD558) for my gaming needs, sound amazing with Dolby Atmos and some EQ, and then I picked some side work and went straight for the Sennheiser HD800S. All are pretty amazing. I really wish I had gone for the HD650’s first though and saved money over the HD800S.

    I'm actually listening to this on my new HD 280 Pros, and I keep hearing an instrument playing occasionally in the left side. I tried hearing it in my Skullcandy Hesh 2 and the instrument sounded muffled and more distant, not as clear and right next to me as they were while wearing the HD280s.

      It's tough as someone who a) isn't overly knowledgeable on audio/music and b) has some significant hearing loss in a lot of frequency ranges. I can tell there is a clear difference between neutral and personalised, but both my wife and I were kind of expecting a 'wowzer' moment and it wasn't quite like that for us.
      I mostly edit dialogue in video mixed in with background music - I wonder if I'd be better just using good but flat speakers in my office?
      No matter what, the finished mix sounds completely different on TVs/tablets/phones, and I always go back and tweak the balance again!

    • @OliverJHughes
      @OliverJHughes  Před 5 lety +1

    I've been using open back headphones for recording and mixing for the last 7 years. HD 480 and HD 558. I just found a bargain pair of hd 280 pros. I've been looking for a closed back set of headphones for a while. A lot of my vocal tracks you can hear the metronome bleeding out the back of the headphones and being recorded on the microphone.
