      Sonys are my most used for working, easy to slip on and off, durable... Ear pieces don’t flip but it’s easy to pull one behind your ear AudioTechnica is good but build quality is less, it’s easy to break off the ear pieces if your not conscious of how they move and can easily flip upside down, but ear pieces do flip out... If i din’t have the Sonys I would be using ATs. Sennheiser is the biggest, and while ear pieces flip out I use them for “non-work” listing… the cord is short and stiff and I prefer lighter headphones. They all have a sound profile that is neutral enough that any of them can be used for mixing along with visual tools for maintaining consistency.

    Unfortunately my 7506's only lasted just under 2 years. I barely used them, nor did I mistreat them. One day, I put them on to do some mixing and the right side went completely out. Now, also owning the AT M40fs since 2018, they're still alive and kicking. I used them more, resulting in the pads being very worn. They still sound good regardless (not like the Sonys).

    • @DotDotMatrix
      @DotDotMatrix  Před 2 lety +1

      I used to exclusively use them for music...but I think they do well with the human voice (and my tolerance to listen to them for long periods of time.) Of those 3 headphones I think Sonys are the best choice if you have to bring them around to different places cause they're light and built well. Sony's are my most used "working headphones" cause (1) I'm so used to their sound, (2) I find them to be good for wearing for a long period of time. There are a lot of good headphones out there that fit those parameters, Sony's are just the one's I chose early on and am happy with them.

      I've never needed open back headphones. If it's just for the experience of playing games it shouldn't matter much unless you want to hear the exterior sound in the room like people taking to you. I tend to view headphones as a tool for focusing that can diminish outside distractions.

      I think they all sound very good... Sony’s are the lightest and the one’s I use the most (especially if I’m wearing them for hours), so that is my personal pick.
      Sennhieser’s have a short stiff cord and are the heaviest, which can be limiting, but they do feel more immersive.
      AudioTechnica’s are somewhere in between, if you want to take the middle road and like having multiple cords to plug into the headphones then they might be a good choice.

    Despite your wise cat there, I can't seem to decide between the Sony's or the ATH's. In my area the Sony's are selling for a lower price than the M40x's, so that made me curious about the M30x's, which are also selling for even lower. But I heard the M40x's are the most "neutral sounding" ones out of these, surpassing the M30x's. Guess I got trapped in the rabbithole dude, I was thinking about getting the Sony's since they would "sit" in the middle (In my case), some sites even said the Sony's still reproduce a "better audio", despite being made back in the H. • @DotDotMatrix
      @DotDotMatrix  Před 2 lety +2

      Because they can articulate around in so many directions I can seen how someone could get confused about their position and force them in the wrong direction (especially in a dark room). They fold up really easy, but the pivot points are encased in light plastic... I had overlooked that the Sennheisers pivot in a similar way, but it was less obvious cause of their heavier build and it is also less comfortable to wear them with 1 ear pieces turned out. Don't know if Audio-Techs have changed in the last 8 months, but I would be weary of the strength of those joints if I were throwing them in a bag and taking them places where I would be rushing to setup and generally being less careful with my gear.

      Never used BTR5, but a quick read make it seem like it's not really a device that has the aim of coloring sound like something that is tube driven or a simulation, but rather has more subtle controls... There's an EQ so that can help make something easier to listen to... I assume you are referring to higher frequencies being "fatiguing" and maybe wanting to curb down around 5-10k and up ...especially if you have a youthful full range of hearing.

      I don't see it as a Sony issue, they were used a lot in those 20 years. Some headphones might be built to last longer... I'm sure using them for recording where they are sometimes exposed to audio spikes, like if the gain on a mic is too loud and you can hear the headphones screaming across the room shortens their lifespan. The good thing about them is the same model is still in-production, so you can repurchase that same sound, but they are also user serviceable too.

    After going through many pairs of headphones, i'm starting to think the MDRs with their exposed cables are the safest for said cables. Your first thought might be they are exposed and easy to damage, but the reality is, when manufacturers try to hide the cables, they tend to pass them through delicate articulated areas that slowly but surely bend and destroy those cables. Not so with the MDRs. As long as you don't treat your headphones like absolute garbage, those floating wires will probably last you more than others. So i'm not surprised your old pair still works after 2 decades. Hard to go wrong with them.
    Even recently i threw away a pair of Sennheiser well above 100 bucks, for exactly this reason. Shitty wires.

    • @DotDotMatrix
      @DotDotMatrix  Před 2 lety

      My gut says the Sennheisers cause the short cord is actually a feature if it's plugged into something in your pocket... they are also the most immersive for music.... but if you don't want to block out the world, like if you need to be aware of traffic or whatever if your going into the world with them, then you might want "open back headphones".... otherwise the Sonys are lighter and let more outside sound bleed in... but skip on the AudioTech for mobile...the hinges have a weaker construction.

    • @DotDotMatrix
      @DotDotMatrix  Před 2 lety +1

      Of these headphones none of them would drown out any frequency bands. Sennhiesers are probably best suited for a full sounding music centered workflow, I assume you mean in music creation, but I do use them a lot for listening... And sub-bass is always going to have a bigger feel on a speaker than headphones so it's always best to proof that....or at least be aware of it on the EQ

      @@DotDotMatrix thanks for the reply! I've seen people say that these are good but the only issue apparently is the fact that they have this thing where I'm guessing it doesn't cup your ears tight enough and if you slightly tilt or move your head, the sound on one side could possibly change. Any thoughts on that? Thanks again!

      @DotDotMatrix  Před 2 lety +1

      👍 I've never owned AKGs, and never had issues like that, but incase you meant AudioTechs, they (and the Sennheisers) have a rotating pivot joint that might be good for fitting to the shape of different sized heads, but it is of weaker build on the AudioTechs and could be a failure point if mis-handled.

    • @DotDotMatrix
      @DotDotMatrix  Před 3 měsíci

      Any current computer has good enough built-in audio out to playback music, but it needs to be plugged into a headphone port (or an audio out with a preamp.... SOMETHING TO BOOST THE VOLUME) ... as oppose to a line level out.

      Sonys are my default headphone. The only non-bias thing I can say is go with them if you want a longer cord that your not pulling against... but if your just doing stuff right in front of where your plugged in the Sennheisers are good music production headphones (despite their short & heavy cord).

      I've never used JBL Lives but it looks like for the extra $100 you're getting a bluetooth option and noise canceling which the m40x doesn't have. I don't use those features, so it depends on if you listen in noisy environments and if you do it would be better to compare "neutral balanced noise canceling headphones"

      I was clearing out a house and had paint cans stored next to my car, but forgot about them when I was backing up while turning ,and as a result the front left tire exploded an old primer can that instantly adhered to the sun heated car. Most of it was on my tire, so I painted white walls on all my tires so it would match.
