A fun cheesy action flick with two redeeming factors, the great sounds of the Jeff Healey band, R.I.P. Jeff. Secondly the effortless cool Sam Elliott delivery. It's a guilty pleasure, one i watch whenever it's on. The soundtrack is great.
Sam Elliott is great in everything, even over-the-top dumb movies like this one!
I watched this for the first time in decades and didn't recall that pool stick pole vaulting scene being that hilarious.
I know its played to say "why remake something already perfect". But in this case it really is hard to one-up Swayze or even come close

No remake of a Swayze film will ever come close to the original. There's no beating Swayze. I could see there being declarations of war if anyone tried to remake Ghost or Father Hood and actually expect it to be any good.

I am proud to say that I saw this film in the theaters when it 1st came out!!!! The whole audience laughed, cheered and YES, the ladies in the room sighed pretty much whenever Patrick or Sam were getting their "Cool" on which was just about every other minute. I bought the soundtrack too, on cassette, LOL.. Now I OWN this classic film on DVD. The 1980s were the last hurrah for fun, pop-corn eating, silly, fantasy escapist movies. Nowadays, everything is so self-important and preachy, scared to tell jokes, be sexy or have some balls. I'm so glad that I have so much Old School cinema options to watch & enjoy. PEACE!

Between JCVD, Patrick Swayze, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, and Steven Segal, you have a goon with crushed testicles, no throat and two broken arms getting slapped unconscious, roundhouse kicked twice, lectured in stereo on the teachings of the Buddha, shot from four directions with automatic weapons, choked to death with a chain, and thrown out of a window while exploding seven times. I have never been happier to not be an action movie villain from my childhood than I am right now.
Makes you wonder, why would i want to go see a remake, if i can just see this one ?

Connor McGregor actually makes it pretty damn entertaining. Watch him show up in other movies to come. The remake doesn’t have the same production value though.

@@DaDude2011 McGregor was way over the top in the remake, and someone said in a comment that throughout the movie he looked like he was carrying telephone poles...after watching the movie, I have to agree, and it is hilarious when you've got that in your head while watching the movie.

I wonder if this movie will still be popular after everyone who grew up watching it is dead and gone. This is one of those movies truly of its time. We must pass it on to the next generation somehow.

You know how you can tell times have changed? The tough heavy in the original film was a pro wrestler, and in the remake he’s an MMA fighter.

To me, that's a downgrade. I used to be a wrestling fan, and while it is "stupid fun", its at least done by charismatic performers that know how to entertain. Most MMA fighters, while doing actual fighting, aren't actors. So, no matter how much they think they're better than pro wrestlers, they're fighters. Not performers.

@@youknowwhoyouare2269 Yeah. It's an easy way to tell how tall an actor is in film. Once you start looking for it, you'll notice. Of course, you can also compare a guy's height with his female co-stars in the right shots. It's surprising how many male actors are shorties.
I looked it up. He was 5'11", 2" taller than an average American man.
@@null6634 I see mentions of between 5'6" and 5'11". Yet why did his head look the size of Andre The Giant in comparison? Mullet effect? Lots of guesses involved.
Plenty of actors lie about their height and the number ends up on IMDB or wherever. You don't really know until you meet one -- and even then he might have the special shoes.
The whole movie is mullets and bar fights. I’ve watched it at least 20 times. I love it.
