СВS cut out the most important part of the conversation because they lie to him and want to hide it from the public..On CZcams there is a video in which 2 judges from the audience, who were present during this conversation, told about what was really happened. They were furious about how СВS treated Dimash. When Dimash signed a contract, his condition for signing a contract was that he would not compete with children. He was told that there would be no children. After that, they forbade competitors to see each other.During the competition, Dimash accidentally saw in the hallway whom he competing with. And it was 2 small children. In thе part of the world where Dimash and I come from, competition between adults and children is considered injustice, not equal, and low. Adults always compete separately from children. Children are always allowed to go forward. They simply deceived him. СВS cut out part where Dimash publicly reminded the bald РS that what was a condition for signing the contract. To take the price from children is a humiliation not only for him but for his whole country. People will no longer respect him and he would be ashamed to return home and look people in the eye. They also changed the order of what was. Dimash sang the last song after they were disrespectful to him. My great respect for Dimash.

this is one of the things that i don't get, i don't listen to Justin Bieber personally, but I can recognize his talents. why limit yourself? I would love to hear Dimash in his more normal range, his voice is really top notch, but he isn't singing for me, he is singing to a larger audience. the pianist that won was doing the same thing, he was playing to please the crowd, I called him Little Liberace. He knows his audience isn't a bunch of pianists, they like the dramatics.

Great arguments, Ken! This story "just because you can, doesn't mean you always should" started long ago in Kazakhstan, where local judges were bullying Dimash every time he showed his full vocal power. Those numerous "why did you use this technique?", "this range is not necessary for the song", "you demonstrate yourself, not the song", bla bla bla. This forced him to leave to China where public and judges were more listening and thinking prior to talking readymade. I strongly believe that in Dimash's case "JUST BECAUSE HE CAN - HE SHOULD ALWAYS"! J

Dimash does it because he can do it, no one else. Moreover it's important just to say to young beginning singers - please work on your technic and do your business as better as it possible. Paricularly if you are at the world stage - saying: Hi, i'm Dimash and i can do it, please follow me, try do it better. Everybody has to understand - how much work behind! All these makes Dimash exlusive singer only one the world heard ever Nevertheless, please forget this vision of this limited range guy an who cann't be honest. Dimash is thw world's best!

The problem of this competition they are not in the same genre. They are all. Superb in their own kind of genre. All performers are excellent. So I think the competition will be based on their appeal, their charisma or charm. To judges and to the audience. I think they can measure their ability if its the same genre. But people like music more than other talents showcase. And also depends on how iconic or famous thing they are doing. So i guess the charm and appeal of performers that will catch the heart of the judges and audience.will be the winner. But ill go with TNT BOYS they are talented plus had charm.Go TNT boys!!! ♥️

In my opinion there is a contradiction in this TV program, if this is a musical talent program, with the purpose of selecting the best singers, then the musical taste of the jury shouldn't be taken into consideration, but the abilities of the participants (singers) If you take your personal taste into the program and select only the singers who sing the musical genre that you like, you are not being impartial and professional, everyone has the right to not like something but this is about a program of vocal, musical skills, not of personal taste to jurors.

I had a friend who received his degree in music theory and cello.
One of the best things he ever told me was that it was okay to not like a genre of music or art style; but that should not stop me from recognizing when it is done well, or giving credit for the talent involved.
I.E. I really do not like rap. But I don't dismiss the talent or abilities it takes to perform in that genre.

I discovered Dimash several months ago on a Chinese talent show & he literally blew me away with his beautiful voice & selection of songs. This is really really interesting! The same thing happened to Dimash with a judge in another competition (in Kazakhstan or Russia, not sure which language they spoke). She said just because you can doesn't mean you should, and that sometimes less is more. He politely and respectfully thanked the judge and seemd to take it on board. However he knows that it comes down to personal opinion in the end. He always wants to please all of his audience but there are some people who don't like what he does and he is OK with that. He has self confidence in his abilities, and he measures his performance against his own internal gauge. He has so much experience in competition and performing on stage that he know what he needs to do to impress the people who matter. If there are some he doesn't impress he simply accepts it, smiles, says thank you and lets it go.
I think that there are fans who leap to his defence too quickly. He doesn't need defending. From those who don't like his style the 'critcism' is like water off a ducks back. He knows what is important, who is important to him and why, and it is those people he listens to very carefully. He is a humble and respectful guy who lets everyone be who they are without trying to change them.

Your comment about Mariah, while humurous, is bang on and says it all. That's what really set her apart. She was so unique, with that massive vocal range of hers. I remember being a teenager when she first exploded onto the scene. I clearly remember my friends and I being in awe. We LOVED to listen together to her low notes and high notes. We thought she was so cool! And so did millions and millions around the world. There are several successful singers out there who also have or have had wide vocal ranges. I've been to a few concerts where singers have experimented with low and high notes, and the crowd went wild. With Dimash, I close my eyes and listen to Daybreak from Bastau, or Love of Tired Swans, and imagine there are at least 3 to 5 different singers on the stage. Not only does he have the biggest range, but he also sings a variety of styles within one song... which you've explained for us. Pop, tenor, soprano, baritone, Asian and Kazakh folk, rap..... you name it, he's done it. I know that we (in English speaking countries at least) are now in the era of an auto-tuned and image based commercial music industry, but maybe, just maybe Dimash will start a revolution in music? I don't want to get too excited yet, but that's what I wish for. And there are sooo many good singers out there. We need to hear real voices. We need to hear different styles of singing. The art of singing needs an urgent comeback!

It is weird for those of us who have been following Dimash for a long time to see others discovering him. Dimash is in his own lane. A “pop-opera” genre. His body of work is amazing. And I have found I connect to his performances more when I don’t understand the language he is singing in. Late Autumn is one of my favorites as is Sinful Passion and SOS. The Chinese “got it” hopefully there are enough judges who will embrace the artistry, passion and talent Dimash brings.

I had lately seen the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" and when I saw the comment of that judge in TWB I was thinking to myself that he is the same kind of "expert" as the producer, that didn't like Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. He just could not understand that people might want something different than the mainstream, that there are a great number of people that do not know anything about music, but when they hear the song, it moved their hearts and souls. I am a metal fan for many years, and I never liked slow songs or love songs, they were boring to me. But since I saw Dimash, I really can't stop listening to his or Terry Lin's songs. I really opend my mind on that kind of music. Unfortunately, any other artist I listen to now (even the one's I loved), sounds to me now ... just average. [sorry for my english, it's not my native language].

I immediately said the same thing: Dimash is there to impress and needs to "beat them over the heads" with it. Also, why is being "commercial" considered being such a great thing? To me that usually means the same thing over and over again and it bores me. I do listen to contemporary stuff but also music from the 50ies, 60ies and so on. I want to taste ALL the flavours and see ALL the colors of the rainbow. Which is what I find so refreshing with Dimash.
Also, just need to adress that obsession about speaking English. I know it's a big thing for the native English-speaking nations, but not so much for the rest of us... 😉 There is this song Late Autumn that Dimash sings that is absolutely heartbreakingly emotionally beautiful. First time I heard it I didn't know what it was about but I cried.... I could feel it! The song is in Mandarin and I didn't understand a word, I had never heard the song before but it absolutely hit me hard. 😭
Later I have watched the performance again with background story of the song and with English translation of the lyrics. Very emotional indeed but that first time for me when I just FELT the song left me absolutely heartbroken. 💔
And THAT is what music is all about for me; listening with the heart and not with the brain.

Dimash is possibly the best vocalist of all time. The combination of raw talent, vocal control, breath control, annunciation and diction, plus a myriad of other vocal skills coupled with his showmanship and story telling within a song makes him a flawless performer! I can understand why some judges just don’t get it. I also think some are just jealous of his perfect performances!

Just wonderful explanation about your take on the British judge criticism on Dimash why he voted against him. I listened to several vocal coaches of different ethnic backgrounds and I came to the conclusion that "they" felt the same as your conclusive assessment , and yes, speaking a much better English is a must to succeed in the western culture but I am not so worried about that aspect because Dimash can whip that in a short period of time. Let's take an example on Celine Dion's and others whose English is not their native tongue. Celine Dion did not speak English in the beginning, she had to learn how to speak English to even succeed here in the USA. The only big difference is that Celine did have a major advantage was her late husband was connected to the music industry that helped her a lot. I am confident that Dimash will succeed here with the right tools presented to him. Go Dimash!!!!!👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

What Dimash has done is create a new genre which he calls neo classical. He combines opera, pop, jass, h-metal and even rap, trying to bring back art to music. His music vibrates within you. Your heartbeat and brain waves change and if you’re tuned to his wave you hear only one voice not many different ones. No different than the techniques of “super learning”. He will be the major influence in making us love music again. Get ready for him.

One reactor (Stan from The B and S show) said in their first reaction that Dimash's singing could be used to treat diseases. It was a joke, but like we say in Russia: "Every joke is partly joke".

I agree with you Ken. When Dimash was competing in the chinese show "Singer", he was allowed enough time to perfom an entire song, hence showing both technical skills & passion. In "the worlds best", they cut of the song performances really short. So no wonder Dimash must maximize his performance to impress the judges. I think Dave has failed to realize this fact.

    • @sohillsvettech1624

Dimash and all competitors had unlimited time to perform it front of the judges and dimash sang the entire song each time he sang on the worlds best they were just edited buy the tv channel to fit them in the 2 hour time span. They even flip flopped his last performance when in reality he sang after be trashed by rupaul and other judges. Now that a professional he gave 150% after all that drama!!!!

My dear Ken .. No excuses. I am coming from a very underground music background and when i heard Dimash i was speechless not only with his range but as a whole. He made Lara Fabian on same song with same band in same place sound average. No excuses. When something is out of this world it needs to be recognized despite out preferences. Period

Also, it seems like the show only gave Dimash (and all other contestants) a very short time slot. So he was kind of "forced" to show case his skill within that limited amount of time hence it may sound "all over the place". If you see his videos from the Chinese singing contest, they actually let him sing full songs. Thanks again for the great review Ken!

Everybody is getting short exposure they have a very limited time showing their talent but it's the same for everyone. Yes, I hope they give every contestant enough time to complete their performance not cutting short. If somebody from the judge didn't vote for Dimas it doesn't mean he's not good but some of the judges looking or expecting something extra special from the performer, if they're not convinced of course they won't vote you.

You are absolutely right. That's why I think dimash's introduction to America isn't "proper" . it doesn't matter if everyone is given too short a time to perform. You have to let an artist- be- an artist, not clip them.experts should know that. Who are this people? I thought it was "the words best" Or does that starts and stop with the contestants. For those who have known dimash before this show can clearly see the difference. I don't think they've realized that dimash has his own genre of music hence his not there to fit into their particular music scene but for them to fit into his. Like the rest of the world already has. We know this. They don't. So I wonder did they do any research on the contestants before inviting them!?

  • @ubervocal8777

Beautifully and thoughtfully stated. Two minutes is not a long time for Dimash (or any other singer) to win people over to something that is very different from what they are used to hearing. I suspected that Dimash would have this problem but I'm thankful it is from relatively few judges. Dimash needs to keep doing his thing and most likely all will turn out well for him and those who enjoy listening to him.

    • @MysticDreamz
      @MysticDreamz Před 5 lety +3

I just recently learned from an audience member that was there, that Dimash's original performance was about 7 - 8 minutes long. He started with a Kazakhstan song and then this was his finale. Roughly 6 minutes was removed from the broadcast and it's no where to be found on the internet. 😞 They said it was very beautiful and represented his culture (which was his intention).

There's one thing that has been left out in all this, especially regarding judges and their opinions: Dimash only has 2 minutes to make an impression and it's just not enough time to make an impact. We who follow Dimash and have watched his performances KNOW that emotion is what he is about. It really is unfair to have him cut down his performance to only 2 minutes.

Some people may be able to sing the high notes & some people may be able to sing the low notes but to sing a whole song with all notes there is only Dimash who can sing it to perfection. That judge does not have a leg to stand on with his stupid explanation. He’s making a fool of himself. There is no comparison to Dimash who is absolutely the best singer in the world. We Dears do not have to know the language to fall in love with Dimash’s great heavenly voice & how he gets each & every song across to us. Elvis was King of rock, Michael Jackson was King of pop, B.B. King was King of the blues, James Brown was King of soul but Dimash is THE KING OF ALL THE GENRES & to mix it all up into his songs is PURE GENIUS. Thank you very much Ken. You are a brilliant man. If someone shows me a man, who can sing better than Dimash, or at least as good as he is, then I will give up on Dimash. So far, he is doing very badly with English songs. Perhaps because it's not his first language and cannot connect with English songs. Dimash's technique is flawless, his tone perfect, his agility staggering. He surprises, then amazes, then shocks. In a competition he can, and should, pull out every weapon in his vocal armoury. I love him, but my fear is that he is in danger of becoming some sort of vocal trick pony where everyone sits through every song waiting for Eb7 or whatever it is. I think Dimash has an amazing future - and I think he has important things to say - so I look forward to seeing him develop as an artiste with his own 'voice'.

And when Dave take judge of dancers, or acrobatics, how he do it? From rock and roll point of view? So, my opinion is that he can not be judge in this kind of competition, just on some show for rock and roll talents.

As someone who only LISTEN to Music I often feel unequipped to even have an opinion on what is 'good' or 'bad' Music... and when a person who has Music as their profession says something isn't very good… well, it can make me wonder. (Not that I for a nanosecond felt anything other than admiration for Dimash's singing, he's just awsome.) It can however give the nay-sayers fuel to their fires. (Can't for the Life of me understand why people who don't like a particular artist still bother following said artist's videos and leave negative comments… just go listen to whatever you DO like for heaven's sake.)

Love how you explain and evaluate the performance of the artist. They should get judges like you.

I am not a singer and a voice vocal teacher...I am here to voice out my opinion about Dimash...I came from the Philippines and the world knows that filipinos are known for being a good singer even without a proper training,we are known for our passion in singing and a daily practices helps improved our vocal chords, I have a very good ear and I can hear if a person can really sing or not, everyone does it who loves music... the first time I heard Dimash,I was really blown away by his style of singing...his fantastic acrobatic vocal range is phenomenal...he sings from the heart and hes a true artist because he play with his music,he portrays and gave life to his music, his body action, his love and passion came from the core of his HEART...I dont think he just want to impress the judges,of course hes in a competition,he should impress the judges...who doesn't did it when you're in front of them?
he should proved what he can do ,remember its a "World Best Competition"...he's grandma took him to a voice lesson when he was 5 and by a rigid training and coaching he was able to expertised hes field,he's able to master the task given ,he's the director, actor and singer of the band...for me,he's a true performer from a to z . About the TNT Boys,I am so proud of them at their young ages...I love them so much and who may ever won the Title World Best deserves it...and I wish them all the best!

Ken, that’s exactly what I was saying!!!! The judges are NOT there to judge on “style”. There are so many amazing singers from all over the world singing different styles. It’s just so unprofessional and biased to not vote for someone due to their “style”. The judges should put aside their likes and bias and judge the contestants based on execution, level of difficulty, stage present, deliverance, technique etc. After all, it’s a competition. It’s kind of like telling Usain Bolt, “just because you can doesn’t mean you should” and he’s in a race. I understand that he is entitled to his professional opinion but his opinion doesn’t make sense and is very biased.

Unfortunately these types of judges can mar an artist's career if it were not for Dimash's more than considerable vocal abilities.Though the art up for review is not of his idealism it's art for art's sake and should be judged as such. The goal should be to listen without prejudice. This should be the skill of a great critic. Thanks for sharing your views and the dissection of the critics views as well Ken.

You are absolutely right! Talent, control, range, passion, all that can be objectively judged. I'm not into jazz, but as someone who's dabbled in singing and playing piano, I am in awe of the skills many jazz musicians have just to name an example. If you can't judge objectively and if you don't understand what the show is about, maybe this isn't the panel for you. That's what I have to say about this guy.
