It's even scarier & more disturbing knowing the conditions on set.
Didn't one of the actors say it was worse than his tour in Vietnam?
Ah yes, the good ol’ days of behind the camera madness. 😌
Lol I just commented on this....BRUTAL.
Really??? What happened???
@@molasorrosalom4846 where can I find this info
For me hands down the greatest film revolving around killers and psychotic people of all time. Great episode
What was great about Texas Chainsaw Massacre was the great use of sound. Creepy sounds were more effective than any gory effects on camera.
Not since the exorcist that I have seen a great horror movie 😊
And there wasn't really any music. Also, the grainy film quality made it feel like you were watching a found snuff movie or something.
They never stop getting made that’s what
I first saw this in college. I just sat there in stunned shock at what I had just seen, when the screen made that quick cut to black at the end.
I remember seeing this movie for the first time on VHS, and something about the lower film grade and quality made it even creepier
The remastering has sorta ruined the movie
Still have my original vhs of this movie
I can never get enough of this film!! Honestly, the older I get, the more I think this might be the best horror film ever made, even over Halloween, the Thing and Exorcist.
I read some place that no killing in it is actually shown on camera and it adds to the terror because it leaves it up to your imagination or tricks you into seeing more violence than is actually shown. And that the director was outraged when the movie never got a PG rating that he thought it deserved lol
@@laurarules3642 I definitely agree that with it having less actual brutal violence shown onscreen then expected, made it way more effective but it does still have some on screen killing. The hitchhiker gets shown being brutally run over by the semi truck and I'm pretty sure those couple blows Jerry took to the head killed him. Kirk didnt get killed immediately after leatherface appeared from that iconic doorway shot but I still think that blow was 100% the cause of his death so I count it but that's just me. Franklin's death is offscreen and perfect for it for sure.
Possibly.... good movie
@@laurarules3642 Not true. Defintely shows killing.
I agree with you 100%. In my opinion, there is no topping the original TCM. Halloween, The Thing and The Exorcist are fantastic films, but TCM is actually scary. For me, Dr. Loomis kept Michael Myers from being scary. All this mumbo jumbo about evil incarnate and the Boogeyman cheapened the character for me. The Boogeyman isn't real, crazy people are. If Michael was just an escaped lunatic, it would be much scarier in my opinion. The Thing and The Exorcist are fun as hell, but they're not scary. I've always leaned more toward human horror though. There's nothing in the world scarier or more dangerous than other people. It's not very likely that we're ever gonna run into monsters or demons, but there could be a maniac with a sharp object creeping out right now. Those college kids getting butchered in Idaho is a perfect example. That was basically The Slumber Party Massacre, but in real life. The guy just had a knife instead of a power drill. Bone chilling shit, man.
My story is similar to yours, but a neighbor friend let us see it in her house! We rented horror films every weekend, and so when I saw this (at 11 years old), I was quite shaken. So I bought the DVD, and since then, it’s been my all time favorite film. Also, when that video store closed, the owner gave me the copy of TCM.
I literally lol'd when you mentioned your first viewing was in a church...i first saw it when i was 12 and pet sitting a neighbours cat...i could only watch it in 15 minute sessions because i was so terrified but i got through it by the time they got back lol
This movie is indeed very scary. Case in point: in the 80s, my older brother played it loud because he had hearing problems. Even though my grandmother was in another part of the house, she ended up going to the hospital because all the screaming affected her badly. To be clear, she did not watch it -- only listened. She was OK in the end, but it reminds me of the stories of people signing wavers before watching a horror movie in the theatre!
I have learned a lot about this movie over time and didn't know the story about him needing to be paid in full before hand and seeing the check in his pocket! That definitely tells you a lot about the production. I am glad you shared your story about seeing it for the first time. I have an incredibly similar story about The Terminator.
I love every frame of this film. Same goes for Tobe Hooper's The Funhouse.
I was fortunate enough to meet Tobe in January 1995. R.I.P. Master of Horror.
Ditto.
Did you know that despite the title, only one person was killed by chainsaw in this movie and it was done at night not even daytime where you can see the gore
I believe that leatherface killed everyone with the chainsaw eventually as they were only unconscious at the time he abducted them.
This film is an absolute masterpiece. What I truly love about it is how it almost feels like a documentary with the way it was shot. It's so dirty, so grimey, that it truly feels plausible that everything in it is real and can happen, even Grandpa lol. And the way it ends so ubruptly is perfect after all that madness. It just leaves the viewer shocked, drained, speechless, etc. The cast and crew really did suffer for their art as making it was an absolutely terrible experience for all involved due to the heat and the extremely long hours it took to shot.
True story. my family knew Ed Gien and he took my dad and others to the drive in movies all the time. My grandpa lived across the street from the hardware store where Worden's hardware store was, its a True Value today. My grandpa was the one who bought Hogan's bar after she went missing and my brother in law has the bar that came from there. And my grandpa was in the time magazine where the story broke about Ed. All of this is true. I love telling the stories. I mean my mom would take me up to my grandma's house two weeks out of ever summer to visit. I've been in that hardware store so many times. Then when the book came out by the judge who did the trial, my mom had a copy of it when it first came out. When i found that i would take it to school to show everyone.
the thing i love most about this move it dose not have much gore at all and play's on your imagination to fill in the gaps
I never got to see the original Texas chainsaw massacre movie until last year. It’s definitely one of the best films of its genre. The original still holds up with the 2003 remake
Awesome review!!! I was 11-years old when this movie came out and can remember seeing it at the local DRIVE-IN THEATER - them were the days and best way to see a movie.
The Original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still a Classic to me ✌
It’s a classic overall pal, very very important horror movie!
@@iitzbenni I Agree
I saw this when I was about 6 years old in 86 and it wasn't just scary to me it was disturbing. As a adult I love it now especially the chaos throughout and the chaos in the end when leather face is swinging his chainsaw around when the girl escapes.
I REMEMBER GETTING THIS MOVIE ON DVD AT VIRGIN MEGASTORE BACK IN 2008 AND I FELL IN LOVE WITH TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE. LEATHERFACE IS WITHOUT A DOUBT KING OF ALL HORROR MOVIE VILLIANS.
I watched this on VHS early 80's in my Nan's house (my uncle living there had rented out this and Airplane!).
Naturally sisters aged 9 and 12 year old, we wanted to watch the horror.
We had never seen anything like this before. So in my mind this is the ultimate classic. This later went on to be banned in the UK, along with other titles such as The Evil Dead (another fantastic movie).
The actors in this low budget movie, did such a professional job, considering the harsh conditions required to work in.
The true classics will always live on... I was an 80s kid so I grew up with Freddy and Jason and the serious gore flicks of the 80s and the like, but nothing scared the shit outta me like 2 movies, this and The Exorcist. I think what makes TCM scarier is that in those 80s slasherrs you rooted for Freddy or Jason or whoever, you knew they'd die in the end but you wanted to see them kill. In TCM the family is so scary and detestable that you can't help but be terrified for the victims and you desperately want them to live.
If you wanna know more of the ridiculousness that went on during the making I recommend reading Chain Saw Confidential written by Leatherface himself, Gunner Hansen, as it goes far more in depth into some of the crazier goings-on on set
Your tale of finding the flick in a Blockbuster (RIP!) case in your sister's room totally takes me to the episode of George Lopez Show where he tried to show his kids Texas Chainsaw only to be chastised by his wife/their mom for showing it to them. Also your sister seems cool! 😎👍
The original is still bloody good and R.I.P Marilyn Burns and Gunnar Hansen.
@Donnie Delvecchio sad but true.
The hitchhiker is the most uncomfortable person to be around or see on screen. That actor was great!
AWESOME 😎
Dude the story at the end brought me back so hard….. hiding dvds of Friday, nightmare and this.. great job awesome video
Awesome! Thank you for this
In the late 80s, a local. PBS station in Los Angeles would show "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and "Night of the Living Dead" every Halloween, uncut, uncensored and no commercials. Watching these movies while handing out Halloween candy became a yearly tradition.
It's often remembered as one of the most bloody, gory movies ever and yet there's not even that much gore in it. There's more blood on Sally in the end than in the movie overall. Always thought that was interesting.
1st time I saw it was at a drive-in triple bill in the 70's, with Meatballs & Up In Smoke. What a great, wacky alcohol & pot-smoked night that I'll never forget. Still don't remember driving home, though, but I made it home alive.
How the hell did I miss this one for over a week..MANYTHNX🔥
Thanks for always supporting!
I remember watching this on a grainy VHS videotape and was truly terrified. You think you have witnessed a bloodbath on screen, but you haven`t. The clever editing and cinematography are magnificent. I`m still amazed that Tobe tried to get a PG rating. That was never going to happen!
The grittiest, rawest, nastiest of em all! Holds up in any decade since it’s release!
The film was made on such a low budget it almost has a documentary feel to it now. Really works in the films favor.
The film never scared me as much as fascinated me. I fell in love from the beginning. I now professionally cosplay Leatherface and this movie shaped my love for horror films.
Spring 1997, i took a horror film class as an elective in college. Scared the hell out of me. I have seen it only 3 times and I am still scared of it.
Being from Dallas, I had to see this movie. I saw it in the late 80s on VHS. Loved it and watch it at least once a year.
The first time I watched this movie I thought there would be alot of gore and blood. What surprised me and was 10 times more disturbing was the weird sounds and creepy atmosphere of the film. That and just the rollercoaster ride of that ending when all hell breaks loose. You really root for the last survivor as she tries to escape this relentless nightmare.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 is one of my all time favorite horror movies.
After I discovered this movie I saw it over and over again I was mesmerized Truly a Masterpiece of horror
One of the most terrifying horror movie's ever made and the 1st time the killer wore a mask and survived and the 1st time we get the final girl and she survived 9.5/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2
Saw the preview of TCM at a theater in 1974. I was there to see another movie, and just the preview scared me half to death! I was 9 years old, and had never seen anything like it! 😞
Tecas Chainsaw Massacre makes top 5 horror movies of all time. Halloween, The Thing, The Excorcist, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Nightmare on Elm St.
Great tale about watching it in a church. I was with my gf in the poconos at this secluded mountain house. Watched it alone with her at night at this spooky place in the dead of winter ❄️
I remember growing up in the 80s and hearing stories of it was only available to rent for a year or two in the UK then completely Banned, if you got certain horror fanzines or magazines there would be private ads in the back with people selling banned or rare films they’d copied onto vhs , I got my auntie to get me Texas chainsaw with fight for your life on the same tape for 30 quid , quite a rough copy but I still adored it , was my prize possession as a 12 year old lol
Great video
Thanks!
What? You couldn't get John Larroquette's real voice? Copyright issues?
You should do wtf happened to Tobe hooper's PPM documentary...the scariest movie ever made!
The one that actually kept me up back then was the movie Criminally Insane with Fat Ethel oddly enough.
It was the summer of 1981. I was at my grandma’s for the summer. The local tv station would show scary movies on Saturday nights. My grandma would let me stay up so I could watch these movies, and this is where I first saw The Texas Chainsaw Massacre!!😃😃
CZcams recommended this channel to me yesterday.
I subscribed to all joblo channels 15 min later.
Got a lot of back log to listen to.
Lesco go Brandon.
Summers here in Texas can be oppressively uncomfortable. Walking out the door feels like opening an oven and that wave of hot air hits ya can just sap all the joy out of your life.
The first time I saw it was in 88 I think. The local mom and pop video shop was typically my go-to for films but I recall they wouldn’t let me rent it so I went to another spot, a gas station. Yeah, back then some gas stations also rented movies to locals and truckers who were parking for the night. Well they not only had TCM but also Creepers so I rented them both.
First time I saw it was back in late 2000, the first time it was ever aired on TV over here in Britain as it'd only just been released the year prior
I watched it hiding in the laundry room while my dad was in the living room late at night. I could see most of the TV, then I gave away my location. Saw about 20-30mins of it in the late 80s. Awesome
I don't remember where I saw it first, probably on beta-max in the very early 80's, and it's truly disturbing, but not the scariest. The Exorcist is still the scariest movie to me. But that falls under what I believe in.
But great video. Thank you for that and you childhood memories.
My first time seeing it was on my phone in my high school during a “free day” where we didn’t have any assignments
Not the scariest, but my favorite horror movie of all time 👌🏻 second one is a classic too!
The movie is a absolute masterpiece to me and it pisses me off so much when people don’t give Tobe Hooper the respect he deserves, especially in regards to directing Poltergeist
My parents allowed me to watch all kinds of horror movies. Jason, Freddy, Chucky, Scream, Puppet Master. and even some of the Return of the Living dead movies. But Leatherface was the one they felt uncomfortable with. After watching it again fully as an adult, I can understand why. This movie felt a lot more real than those ones.
Wow. I'm From South Carolina.
That´s how I watched lots of horror movies as a kid. A local video club that did not care about ages.
No music always makes a scary film hit a bit harder
That is true Leatherface is really strong with brute strength and with speed and don't forget he may has a few weaknesses as well
At the drive-in when I was around 15. Early 80s. Completely messed with my head for days - my favourite movie of all time, it's not even close =)
Love the original TCM. Scared me so much as a kid.
That's crazy how the mafia made a ton of money from the film, and the actors/actresses and crew made nothing.
I watched it in black and white in my horror film class at community college. Prior to that I only saw the remake
The best TCM movie ever made mainly because of how realistic it was and it didn't have to add blood and gore and what they went through to make this movie
Could not get enough of this movie, gets better w age
Imagined if it was called Headcheese. That makes for some crazy ass sequel titles.
I was at a pool party with my mom when I first saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While most people were outside playing, a small group of weirdos watched TCM. The experience was seared into my 9 year old brain.
no other film feels like this one, first saw it at 15 years old, been one of my favorites ever since, the best slasher movie ever because its actually scary, too bad every sequel lacked
I believe the greatness of this movie is the realism because of the cinematography in the era that it was filmed ...and the performance of Gunnar Hansen, Edwin Neal, and especially Jim siedow.....and for me personally....well I'm still in love with Marilyn burns 🥰. Which made me hate the newest movie.
Its my fav horror movie. Yes I feel like it is one of the scariest films of its time. I grew up in Texas in the aftermath of this film, we all grew up in the shadow of this movie, the legend, the lore, stories that it was all true and that it DID happen. That left many of us kind of uneasy. Well I can speak for my self… it left me uneasy. And I had not even seen the film. I had nightmares that i was in a house with all the furniture covered in white sheets being stalked by leatherface outside. I remember the dream because it was so vivid. I do remember being a bit obsessed by the movie. One day at a party, someone rented Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 from a gas station. We watched it, it was brutal, and gory and more than I had seen, since all the horror Id watched up until that point was edited for TV. But after finishing it… and it sunk in. I liked it. Love that film to this day. A year or two after that I watched it on a tiny black and white TV. And not the whole thing either. Finally later I got the courage to watch it in its entirety. I now watch it often, once or twice a year. I really feel liked the detail put in to the production is at a genius level. Such a great film. I don’t live too far from the original filming locations here in Texas. If I had tons of money I would buy the land back and recreate the location with the house and all as a tourist attraction. It is horror film royalty, slowly disappearing to construction and encroachment.
I wonder how much Deliverance was an inspiration
One of the great horror films ever created. One of my top 3
Look what your brother did to the door!
EVERY TIME I watch this movie it reminds me of the gorilla tactics of filmmaking to which we will NEVER see again, absolute SAVAGE.....And downright terrifying the more I see it.
I grew up in the 80s watching horror. Nothing phased me. On Halloween night in 1998, my best friend and I rented this from Blockbuster. I was 18 and under the impression that I couldn’t be affected by horror, but I was proven wrong. Something about this movie made me feel physically sick. I definitely believe this is one of the most gruesome movies ever made and the lack of gore is kind of shocking.
Exactly the same thing with me. I had watched almost everything from the 70's and 80's But somehow I had never seen the Texas chain saw massacre . I don't know how I managed to miss it and also know absolutely NOTHING about it. I was in my early 20's and DVD's had just become popular or had been out a while and I Haden't upgraded yet. I remember buying my first home computer that had a DVD player built into it and I really wanted to test the DVD player out and see the VAST picture improvement on my monitor screen. I bought two films PAYBACK and this and I managed to go into the movie completely blind knowing nothing about it and I was absolutely HORRIFIED and gripped right from the start to the very end. I have watched the movie sooo many times now it doesn't do anything for me anymore. How I wish I could relive the feelings I had on that first viewing all over again
Sally had no problem jumping out them windows don't care how high she was.
I still fancy Pam to this day. Even watching this movie, you yourself feel like its 110 degrees and humid. Now that's film making.
Maybe if that guy had been sober and showed up maybe the character wouldnt be as big as today cause yes everyone else was awesome but definitely gotta give alot to hansen and his flawless performance
My first time…. Halloween 2008 after a Halloween party
I think scariest movie of all time is subjective as it depends on what really gets to you personally. TCSM is definitely horrific, but I'm more disturbed by movies like The Dark and the Wicked.
Great movie, one of the all time great horrors that i got into after watching Halloween funnily enough, for me its not as highly regarded as it should be but i personally love it.
The napoleon dynamite of horror
The greatest horror movie of all time, no question.
All I can say to this film, lower budget and a passionate crew and actors that do their own stunts are hardcore.
5 years old at home. My parents rented it and I watched it.
Texas Classic 🇨🇱
I love your story about your first time viewing this film. It automatically made me think of a story from my life involving a first time at a church. I'm not trying to be rude or crash or even trying to brag or anything like that, I'm just trying to connect a story. So please forgive me everyone. But, my first threesome was in the parking lot of a church.😂😅😮😊 It's such an interesting story to hear about someone sing this film for the first time in that way. I wasn't allowed to watch rated r horror films growing up as a child until a certain age. I'm only 35, but I was originally raised up on the old black-and-white universal horror films, and some of the hammer films and stuff like that. Some other things that were probably a little bit more mature were peppered in from time to time like house from nineteen eighty-five. But that's not a really bad movie for a kid to see. But I do remember that being one of the first film's that really scared me. Anyway, I digress. I wasn't allowed to really watch any kind of violence or type films until I was about nine or ten years old. And that's still really early but it was a different time, LOL. The 90s were something spectacular that I wish everyone could experience as a child. Strangely enough, it was quite some time after I'd started watching r-rated horror films until I saw the original Texas chainsaw massacre. The very first TCM film I ever saw was the next generation. And I know everyone hates that movie but it's one of my favorites, honestly. It's such an underrated TCM movie. It really deserves a lot more praise. Especially compared to the crap that we've gotten here lately. The last couple of TCM films have just been terrible. At least next generation had the balls to be different. Say what you want about Leatherface in drag, but I think the image and even the thought of a mentally deranged grown-ass man dressed in women's clothing and wearing skin nearly head-to-toe chasing you with a chainsaw and screaming at the top of his lungs the entire time is pretty nightmare-inducing. Where are horror fans, right? Well, I think that's pretty horrific. And I'm a fan of that. Once again, I digress. I didn't see the original Texas chainsaw massacre for the first time until I was about eleven or twelve years old. 2000 or 2001. Rented it from the video store and loved it and we watched it three or four times before I returned the VHS. Even at such a young age, I realized that I was viewing a masterpiece. My taste throughout the years have fluctuated just like anyone else's, but the quality of Texas chainsaw massacre has always remained. Anyway, I just love your story about renting and viewing this film for the first time. It just makes me nostalgic. This was an amazing video. One of the best I've ever seen on the channel.
It's still horrifying
I was so happy when Franklin was eliminated
Scariest movie of all time? Years ago I took my nephews(both young at the time)to see the Jim Carrey vehicle “How the grinch Stole Christmas “. I wanted to gouge my eyes out and go deaf. I haven’t let children pick the movie to see since then. Scariest experience of my life.
I dated a girl that kept calling it Texas Chainsaw Man, so I had to kick her to the curb. I envisioned what my future horror movie watching would be like.
love Texas Chainsaw 1-4 the original in a sense is a film of it’s time but, History repeats itself so it being a sleazy grindhouse 70’s film adds more organic charm to it (It’s the perfect example catching lightning in a bottle) both Night of the Living Dead & Texas Chainsaw are ground zero for both indie film making and modern horror both are priceless and so important to pop culture and society in general!
This movie was absolutely amazing
Why so many remakes? That’s what video should’ve been about.
R.I.P. Tobe Hooper and
Marilyn Burns
I always lingered and waited until dad was checking out to put my movies on the counter….. I heard mom tell him ‘watch her, she’s getting those gross scary movies every time…. She might end up weird’…… mmmhhh…. Kinda
Horror was my only interest. Still is….. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
