I don't see a lot of people just digging into grease pencil the way you have and then making videos about it. Really dig 'em. Plus your smile, never lose that. Your Blender GP paintings look like regular paintings to me :-)
Using Noise modifier is also a lot of fun with fill materials.
Have a low position value and increase the noise scale.
Great way if you want some subtle movement to your art 🥰
Dantti!
You make wonderful videos! three years into Blender and now exploring grease pencil. Thank you!
Halfway through your video, had to pause to say I absolutely love your excitement and enthusiasm, nerd out girl! This is super helpful. Merci Beaucoup
wow youre so talented. thanks for showing the gradients tools! i was struggling so much with out it
That's some of the best looking artwork I've ever seen.
This video was SO helpful. I really like the grease pencil, but I've found there are some idiosyncrasies to working with it. You just addressed something i have a hard time with, which is that fill shapes do not close automatically! Now it makes sense!!
You, Cageggi, Sketchy Squirrel and Dedouze are the GP kings!
Honoured to be considered among them, so much talent there! :D
Thank you for this video! I was trying to color an illustration with the grease pencil and it was very difficult, possibly because of all the useful tools that I overlooked.
The more I learn about Grease Pencil the more complex it becomes.
Well, more complex yet more intriguing.
WONDERFUL!! I learned so many small tips which is transforming my own workflow. THANKYOU!
Been looking for the way to do this for MONTHS, thank you!
Wow, you cracked the code! That was a huge discovery to share with us! Thank you!
You're so creative with how you use and organize everything. That different Alpha channels materials was an amazing idea.
Thank you! I'm so glad you think so :)
Love your style and your insights! Your channel deserves all the subs ever!
I'm also on the Blender journey. I'm mostly just messing around still. Your videos are helping a lot! ❤️❤️❤️
Aw I'm glad to hear it! I'm so excited for you :D
Thank you so much for taking us with you on your explorations and sharing your findings in such a well structured and understandable way! You‘ve got such a generous attitude and I really enjoy your videos!
I really love your channel so much, haha. You always find a way to talk about something I didn't know in spite of the fact that I draw in Grease Pencil all the time 🖤
Wonderful, never could find how to do shading on a fill material. The alpha value is a clever work around.
The workflow using all those UI options; assign material and even Sculpt tool, is inspiring.
Has been otherwise troublesome to find Blender painting methods, glad to find the video.
thank you sssso much for sharing your knowledge Sophie! You rock!!
I'm about 5 minutes in but I've already learned so much and had to stop and say thank you so much Sophie- absolutely love your channel and your work.
Aw wow I'm really happy you appreciate it :)
Thank you very much! Finally someone answered how they work. It's weird. I don't know if I like it. The entire material/vector thing is weird, but I guess we're stuck with it right now. Thanks again.
thank you so much ! your tutorials are so helpful
Sophie gracias, me enamore de tu trabajo y tu pasión.
Thanks, Sophie!! That's very helpful!! Great research and great explanation!
holy moly! that gradient modifying *mind blown* .. (ignoring the fact i totally forgot gradients were an option at all haha ...)
always admired artists who work so well with shapes! i remember bejzar on deviantart doing this very well when he started out :)
also fascinating to see how the texture fill works, as i have never tried it! this opens all kinds of doors and probably some confusions xD good thing i have your video to come back too!
im so glad you share your journey with us! it is such a blessing to learn through it and what you discover along the way!
now what im probably most interested in when im going to experiment with shapes is just solid shapes somehow combined with texture masks (probably wont work like i imagine) or via the compositor i guess :D so that the solid shapes get a black and white bitmap texture mask that for example make it look like filled with pencil etc. as i usually work more with a simple cartoony style and not as painterly
time to play! thanks for the wonderful video sophie!
that was quite complicated, good discovery there thanks for showing!!
One of the best tutorials I ever saw. Great Tempo and great amount of creativity and info :)
Aw wow that really means a lot, thanks for letting me know :)
I've been playing around with a Grease Pencil for a long time. And in each of your lessons I learn something new. Amazing tutorials. I love you Sophie )))
I'm so happy to hear that, thank you!
I watch all of your videos. I'm more of a 3d art kind of guy, but I love how you present your knowledge on the grease pencil and its uses.
Aw well I'm glad to hear it! :D
im sorry to tell you this but i think you are the best 2D drawing with that amazing style no even only on blender community but in whole digital community. WOw amazing. i have like now 1year and 4 months using blender is my best decision i did it . because i was using lightwave3d since 2002 and i tryied like max and maya and c4D ex.... BLENDER IS JUST BEST.
This is an AMAZING Tutorial! Its exactly what ive been looking for. 🥰
Aw thanks, that means a lot
@@SophieJantak keep up the great work!
I love how you analyzed the discovery of how the gradients work.. that is definitely amazing and super helpful for my own art later on..!
This is fantastic, thank you!
Your videos inspire me.
thank you.^^
Thanks for this video, Your channel is so amazing. Your videos are very easy to understand
That makes me so glad to hear! thank you :)
Thanks for this overview Sophie. I had major issues understanding gradients in Blender this has been a great help. I also liked your use of various fill opacity settings on different colours.. Very clutch 👍
I'm so happy to hear it was helpful!
Very helpful, I took notes! thank you!
Great video, it helps so much! Thank you ❤️
I'm so glad to hear it :D
Another great video! keep it up
thank youuuuuuuuu love this tutorial
I'm so happy it was helpful!
What an awesome video. Thank you so much for making this. :D
I'm so glad it's helpful! :D
@@SophieJantak So helpful. I need to deep dive into your content to really wrap my head around how you are making these awesome images. My blender art just has base colours now.
love u so much and thank u so much
🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘
Tempted to start drawing now.
dooo ittttttt
When you're in edit mode and you have a single stroke point selected, you can press L to select the rest of the (linked) stroke. (Also works with vertexes mesh and curve objects too ;)
many thanks, Sophie
great job
you should write a book
seriously
Great video.
Thanks a lot ! :)
nice tutorial
❤❤❤
Hey Sophie I Love You
I think you can fix direction of texture fill materials, by rotating them using Transform Fill tool.
When in edit mode using the transform fill tool you can switch from local to global in the top mid menu bar. That should fix your wierd translate issues.
🙏🙏
Sophie: Look what I discovered Developer: yup, of course.
Hello Sophie. Love your passion and enthusiasm about drawing. I have a question about fills. How do you erase them efficiently? Each time I try to they glitch out.
So, Sophie what combination of gradient would you put together to make a soft edge and a lost edge, would you include the Layer opacity also? Thank you so much for this video it has given me light coming from colored pencil.
I'm glad it helps! You could use layer opacity, but then that would affect all the strokes of that layer. It's just a personal preference that I like to keep my layer count small, and so (unless for something very specific) I keep them at full opacity and modify individual strokes instead :)
Nice tutorial! Thanks for the tips! BTW, what's the difference btw tint and vertex draw? I see the same result.
I'm glad they're helpful! As for your question, it's been a while since I made this video so I'm not sure what you're referring to when you say 'tint' - is that a grease pencil modifier?
@@SophieJantak Oh, in draw mode, you know, you can switch btw pen, fill, eraser and stuff you know, now there is tint as well. I am using v3.1
@@SophieJantak I checked your video again and you have it!
Thanks for the tutorial! Would it be possible to have the stroke appear "flat" as the fill?
Hey Andrea! Yes thanks for asking again, I saw your question on my other video but wasn't sure what to answer. That's a problem I've had myself! I'll see if I can't find a better solution, but how I would deal with this is with masking: czcams.com/video/rH2fDeHkrxQ/video.html I made this video about masking, and so by masking the strokes to a 3D grease pencil layer, at least you know they can't go past that 3d shape. But I would like to find a better solution!
@@SophieJantak thanks for answering! I tried masking but sadly the scenes I work with are too big to implement this workaround as it would increase the time needed tenfold, I've resorted with using the fill with some well placed textures but it's not the best and stops me from using your awesome brushes
@@andreapiuma5920 Ahh that is definitely an issue!! I will have to look into it, I'd also like to have a solution!
FINALLY NO Stripes! Thank you 😆
DARNIT!! Haha now I'm tempted to film my next video in a striped shirt AND a striped sweater!!!
Is there any way to "paint" in Blender with oil painting and acrylic?
Thank you for the video. But I find that Sculpt stroke doesn't work when drawing in your startup file.
hey Sophie whats the name of burgundy colour wall behind you? i like it..
But how do you STOP the texture from moving? I tried it, but the texture became distorted.
Can someone help me,if I render anything in the start up file it will be in black and white.
comment for Algothum!!!

If I would have to guess, I'd say you live in *Portland.* 🦦
